A cute mini-story from Applegate's The One and Only Ivan. Ivan helps Ruby to not feel so scared about performing by counting their friends and drawing pictures of them. I'm glad that there aren't too many spoilers for the actual book.

Ivan tries to cheer up Ruby by drawing her pictures, introducing her to his other friends, and doing some counting.

This is a very quick read as the words are super simple and the sentences are short. The characters do some simple math and counting along the way, making this a good pick for kids just learning to read and do addition.
