Wildfires and demons? No sweat.
His bodyguard? She’s the real danger…

Noble. Dutiful. Serious. All words that no one would ever use to describe sea dragon shifter Joe, the Crown Prince of Atlantis.

As the Heir to the Pearl Throne, he’s supposed to be preparing to rule a vast underwater empire…which is exactly why he’s on a fire crew in the ass-end of Montana. Battling raging infernos with his bros is infinitely preferable to wearing a crown. Even with the demons and weird monsters.

Okay, so the forces of evil are getting a little personal. He can handle it on his own, like he always has. The last thing he needs is a bodyguard. Especially her.

The woman of his dreams…

Her only name is Seventh Novice. Everything else, she left behind long ago. If she’s to achieve her dream of becoming a Knight of Atlantis—the first and only one who isn’t a sea dragon—she has to be perfect. Perfectly honorable. Perfectly dutiful. Perfectly in control of the mindless monster who shares her soul.

Which would be a lot easier if she hadn’t been assigned to protect a man with the honor of an alley cat and the common sense of a stunned herring…and a body that drives her beast into a blind frenzy of desire at first sniff.

He’s her fated mate. But Joe’s good at thwarting fate. After all, he’s had a lot of practice...

Because the man that everyone thinks is carefree and careless has a secret.

Joe can see the future.

And if he claims his mate, she’ll die…

Joe just wasn’t what I wanted him to be.
Not a great deal more happening in regards to the demons. We do get a bit more information on a few fronts. Most of what happens is in Joe’s visions.
Though I really did enjoy this overall, I just wanted to slap Joe upside the head, pretty much for 80% of the book.
Disappointed in Joe but not surprised he wasn’t Prince Charming. He didn’t treat Seven/Seren or their mate relationship with the respect it deserved. Joe acted deceitful both by words and actions. He disrespects his crew/family in not trusting them.
He acted as if he had the right to make decisions for the rest of the crew but his visions were not always complete.
Lacking any real connection or feeling between Joe and Seren due to Joe’s belief he should make all the decisions.
He has purposely cultivated a bad reputation and behaved in a manner unbecoming his status, acted like a selfish manwhore for YEARS, all in the belief he could change fate by not meeting his mate, or by making her dislike him so she would walk away.
All this behaviour to try to change fate but by doing what he was doing, it actually made things happen as they were going too anyway. So his bad reputation with everyone was for nothing.
Loved Seven/Seren. What a great character she was.
Seren WAS too good for him and the fact she apologised and thought she wasn’t worthy due to being a great white shifter was ludicrous.
I would like to slap her mother though for hiding her heritage from her.
Though Joe explained his reasoning for why he had sex with so many, he really didn’t apologise enough to Seren. As she said; an honest relationship would have done the same instead of all those one-night stands.
She will have to deal with the fact they will bump into many of his past sexual partners as this is a small world they are inhabiting as fire fighters.
Lupa the baddie is obviously going to make a return.
The ending made this up to four stars.
I am enjoying these books of the children from FIRE & RESCUE but they just aren’t as good.
Read through Kindle Unlimited.

In Wildfire Sea Dragon, author Zoe Chant takes readers to another corner of her shifter world -- Atlantis. Firefighter Joe doesn't want to be the heir to the throne of Atlantis, and feels like he can never live up to his parents' legacy, so he does the opposite -- acting like a wild child playboy who never takes anything seriously -- until he meets Seven, his fated mate. But he knows that if she stays with him, she'll die protecting him, so he does everything in his power to push her away.

Joe isn't my favorite character from the Wildfire Crew series, though this book does a lot to redeem him. He's always been the playboy who doesn't care about anything, though this book shows that that's mostly a facade. I like the juxtaposition of energetic Joe with quiet Seven. This book does touch a little bit on a kind of shifter racism -- since some people think of Seven as less since she's a shark-shifter and not a sea dragon-shifter. I would have liked to have explored that more, though the author might have done that in the books from the parent series that I haven't read yet.

Still, it's an entertaining read and it pushes the overarching series plot forward quite a bit.

Joe is a sea dragon shifter and he's got a huge secret...he has visions of the future so he knows that he cannot claim his mate because he's seen a vision of her dying if he does. He is a Prince but works with a firefighting group that he thinks of as his family.

Seven saved him from an attack and after a bit of a problem, she is named as his bodyguard but Joe and Seven both know that she's also his mate.

Seven thinks that the reason Joe doesn't want to claim her as his mate is because of his playboy lifestyle and doesn't want to settle down but he's actually trying to save her life. She and Joe reunite with his Hotshot firefighting crew and they seem to know right away that Seven is his mate but there's a lot they don't know.

When Seven witnesses Joe have a terrible nightmare, he tells her his big secret and why they can't mate and then they make a plan to keep everyone safe until the danger passes so they can mate later. So their romance is a slow burn even though they lust for each other and want each other but have to wait.

But it irritated me a little that Joe decided not to tell his friends the truth about his visions. If he wanted to keep them safe, all he had to do was tell them the truth, I know they would have believed him and they could have helped him. So he and Seven work behind the scenes to try and keep his visions from coming true all the while trying to keep their hands off each other. But it was a wonderful romance, the characters are feeling so familiar since this is the 3rd book in the series I've read and the overarching storyline of the evil in the wilderness they've been dealing with is really interesting. Plus it's fun seeing so many different kinds of shifters.

Because this is a spinoff series from the Fire & Rescue Shifters series, we get to see characters from that series at times and this was one of those times. I really liked that because I adored that series and it was nice to see some of those characters again.

This was fun, I loved Seven's and also Joe's development and what it ultimately means for all of Atlantis. Although I'm glad not all of the book played there.
And excuse me? That epilogue?! Whaaaat? Need to start the next book NOW!

I wish Joe didn't have such a gross, playboy past. Super disappointing considering he knew he had a mate in the future. Otherwise an enjoyable storyline and it's always fun with this crew. Seven was a good addition, and she was a good match for Joe.

Loved Joe's story!

I actually love all of the Firefighter and Wildfire shifters. The teams are built with a perfect mix of characters with fantastic repartee. Each character adds their own personal touch to the story. Everyone on the team is ready and willing to use their unique abilities to protect their team mates, family, and all innocents. Each story keeps you turning pages to find out what happens next.

In the first two books of the Wildfire series, I took Joe at face value and didn't really think much of him. It wasn't until the reveal at the end of Wildfire Unicorn that Joe's facade crumbled. The burden of knowing the future is a hard burden to bear and the fact that Joe kept it secret and wasn't driven crazy by it, was amazing. This book shows to what extent he went through to save his mate. Seven is great and adds another facet to the team. I love Fenrir (his perspective is awesome) and cannot wait for his book (I wonder if we have met his mate in this book).

I love this series and each book just adds more to this fantastic world the author has built. I look forward to each new addition. Looking forward to the rest of this series, unfortunately, the books won't get here fast enough for me (the last two aren't scheduled until 2020).

I will admit that I totally was laughing when Jon first met Seven while he was at "work". It was a pretty good gag to get her to not want to be around him. I was glad that it didn't work. I really felt for Seven, she seemed like an outsider really want to fit in. Then when she told Jon her story, I really felt bad for her and wanted her to find her place. The quest to keep Jon safe was just the thing. While things went a bit wonky in the middle, Seven was able to do what needed to be done and more then firmly cemented her place in Jon's life and on top of it found a few places to fit in and call home and people to call friends.

It's been a hard year, ya'll.

Back before grad school, when I was single, child-free (except for one puppy), and wildly underemployed, I read the best books. I would tackled the densest novels, the most intricate poetry, the weightiest nonfiction. I loved it. I needed that kind of material to give my brain the enrichment it was craving.

Now, we're in a pandemic. I have two small kids, two dogs, a spouse, a house, a full-time job I love, and a side freelance gig. My brain gets LOTS of good enrichment, of all different kinds, every day.

So what I've been looking for is what I think of as "comfort reading." Honestly, I think from an author perspective, this is harder to write than the weightier stuff. It really takes skill to be able to write a fun romp of a novel: well-written, with good characters, cheesy enough to feel "safe" but not so cheesy as to feel "stupid."

These books hit exactly that sweet spot for me. Honestly, they're nearly perfect for what I'm looking for with the exception of the stupid covers, which I loathe. Really, the only thing that would make them actually perfect would be the inclusion of a LGBTQIA+ protagonist. It feels weird to me that everyone is straight.

JOE!!! What can I say, you were as entertaining as promised.
Joe was a bit of a man-whore throughout the series, so I wasn't thinking I would not like him very much, especially if they make his past an issue for his mate. But nope! It was done surprisingly well, and his mate completely understood why he was the way he was. It also let us give him a tiny little pass as well, knowing he had some pretty valid reasons for his behavior.

The first scene in the book is super funny and kind of cute, even though Joe is doing his best to turn away his mate, meanwhile he is secretly performing a traditional sea dance for mates. This really sucks you in and your instantly invested in these 2 characters.

The story arc follows the same way the previous books have, with the male thinking he was making the right choice by sacrificing himself, meanwhile all he really needed was to trust his mate bond as well as his super tough warrior mate. When his mate finally rescues him, it's a scene straight out of Sharknado, yet somehow, once again, it really fits well with the book.

I'd complain once again about the lack of steaminess but clearly, it doesn't bother me enough to stop reading this series! I am well and truly invested in these characters and whoa! That epilogue introducing Callum's mate, just wow! I cannot wait to read his story!

This is the third book in this series and starts where Wildfire Unicorn left off. It is another exciting fast paced story full of friendship, love, danger, drama, silliness, magic and betrayal. Plus there are hot protective fire fighting shifters. When Joe, a sea dragon shifter who’s also the Crown Prince of Atlantis in addition to being a hotshot firefighter, first meets Seven/Seren, he knows she’s his true mate. In fact, he has been actively avoiding meeting her because he can see the future and has seen what the future holds for her if he claims her as his mate. Now that he has met her, he just needs to figure out how to keep her alive and safe even though she has been assigned as his bodyguard. The two follow the twisting road to their HEA while continuing to battle the demons that like possess magical creatures, keeping safe from the lightening throwing Thunderbird, and dealing with the prejudice of the sea. The way the book deals with Seren’s shame for what she is (a shark shifter rather than a sea dragon shifter) and her heritage gave me all the feels. I love when real issues are included in romances - it makes for more rounded characters and storylines. With Wildfire Sea Dragon, Zoe Chant again proves she’s a fantastic paranormal romance author.

camaraderie, emotional walls blocking self awareness, mysterious villains

Joe is blocked by his own fears and talent from embracing who he really is. Joe is fascinating. He's a reactive character who does not put a lot of thought into his actions. He reacts to his fears and his visions. As the story progresses he learns that fate will happen even if he changes when. Seven doesn’t want to be who she really is, but she is logical and practical. She doesn't realize the benefits to her original senses and wants to be something she is not. Together they have to open each other’s walls while surrounded by evil demons and their loving firefighting family. Mysteries are hinted at from one book in the series to the next. This book contains a couples romance but continues the story arc and brings back characters from past stories. It’s a very interesting world and fun to read. It propels you on to the next story. I love the generations of characters and how they pop up from time to time. Its a very endearing world.

If not for wanting to read Blaise, Callum and Fenrir's books and wanting to be up to date on the supporting characters, I likely would have skipped this one.  I didn't like Joe's man whorish ways in prior books - especially when he knew he had a mate.  I know he had his reasons but he could have rejected her in other ways - not betray her over and over.  How would he feel if she screwed everyone and anyone?  Then, once I started reading, it starts off as him as a pole dancer/stripper and we learn Seven is a virgin.  Made me want to read this book even less.  Hate the whole manwhore and virgin concept.  I already knew Seven deserved better than him.  It pissed me off that someone as honorable as her was paired with such a dumbass.  I felt she was too accepting of his past slutty behavior.

However, Joe did eventually grow on me. I still didn't like his past slutty ways but he did help Seven overcome her shark insecurities so in some ways he was good for her. Overall a decent read.

This is a fabulous shifter book as series.

Wildfire Sea Dragon is the third wonderful book in the fabulous 'Fire & Rescue Shifters: Wildfire Crew ' series. It can be read as a stand-alone although I definitely recommend that you read these books in order to fully appreciate them.

Joe is a member of the Hotshots A-Team and also a Sea Dragon shifter trying to run from who he really is. He reluctantly has to accept Seven as his bodyguard.

This is a delightfully different shifter book and series as I was addicted from the very start. It is packed full with amazing characters who are more than just friends, they are family. A family who fight wildfires and another source of danger that could prove even more deadly. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Zoe Chant is incredibly talented author who never fails to take the reader into the heart and soul of her books.

*Read as an audiobook*
I love this series. I'm now realizing that this is probably a spin off series, but it doesn't feel like I've missed anything by not reading the first series first. I will definitely go back for it though, as much as I'm enjoying this. This series, though you might be ok reading out of order, will make much more sense read in order. This book, #3 is my absolute favorite so far. I love when 'fated mates' struggle with each other and their circumstances and there was a lot of that in book, without being too much also.
The narrator for the audiobook, Lucy Rivers, is absolutely SUPERB! So if you're into audio, this is a great choice! (Along with the others in this series, this one was just my favorite so far!)

Overcoming the Future

Joe Small is Emperor-in-Waiting for Atlantis. His royal line is sea dragon shifters. However, he is a Hot Shot firefighter in Montana (among a few other trades). He has been avoiding his destiny, his future as he sees it, for quite some time. With the arrival of Seven (7th squire of the First Water) he realizes he can't outrun the future he sees. All he can try to do is change it. So begins the loquacious and comedic Joe's attempts to save his mate,7, and his fellow Hot Shots from sure doom. But are his visions the end all, or just the beginning? Seven is perfect for Joe and vice versa. This story is fun, exciting and rewarding. It's great to see everyone get their just due.

Joe mates Seren

A flying shark was so fitting for this series especially for Prince Joe. This book is such a good read. I love the humor in these stories. Helping heal the thunderbird was great. Going after the demon was epic. I love a good hero and Seren was a wonderful hero for this story especially what she did to the Lord. In life a lot of us will face people who put us down and try to keep us there to make themselves look better. We can all hope that they all get what they deserve in time. Was so great to see both Joe and Seren finally accept their roles in life.

Great white!

This book is deliciously different. It has bigotry, self-esteem issues, and fish out of water issues. All while fighting demons and wild fires.
I am going to complain about the editing. It seems to be getting worse with each new book. An editing/publisher isn't listed so the only person I can complain to is the author. These book are on the higher end for ebook pricing. So I expect better quality than this. I am sure even the 'Grammarly' program would pick these errors up. Some of the sentences don't make sense at all.

Heart of the Sea

Will the real Joe please stand up?
A charming playboy, a witty teammate who can always lighten the mood with a joke or a quip, a dragon, a prince of Atlantis...
Even his teammates who have known him most of his life don't know him as well as they think they do.
Only one woman can; his true mate.
But, to bond with her will mean her death.
What will Joe do to protect his mate?
Whatever it takes!
Seven just may have to protect him from himself; if she can!
Read this series in order and enjoy!

I'm not shocked that Joe's playboy demeanor was an act because I saw it slipping in previous books. I was surprised to find out that Seven/Seren was a shark shifter. Seven/Seren made this book great. Honestly, expecting to horrify his mate by having a playboy past and acting dishonorable took more willing suspension of disbelief than demons or flying sharks. I'm also super confused by the idea of Wendigo shifters.

I was afraid of this being problematic because of my problems with how Joe is portrayed in the last book. Is he calling a woman “bro”? Drives me crazy! It’s like one of my acquaintances that used to call me “Bud” even though I told him not to.

Why does he think being an immature horndog is a way to escape his fate even when he keeps seeing the same future!? This book will cause me torment. Can’t do it.

Flying Sharks hahaha

Another successful mating. A very entertaining adventure / love story. Just because Joe kept seeing his mates death didn't mean the future couldn't be changed. Leave it to a shark to take out a demon king. I'm looking forward to Seren and Joe taking on Atlantis.

MY RATING GUIDE: 3.5 Stars rounded up. I mostly enjoyed WILDFIRE SEA DRAGON. It continues the ongoing story arc which began with bk1 and (most likely) concludes in the final book (book6). WILDFIRE SEA DRAGON contains its own mini-conflict, resolution and HEA.

1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= This was okay/cute; 3.5= I ENJOYED THIS; 4= I liked it a lot; 5= I Loved it, it was great! (I seldom give 5 Stars).

Joe, Crown Prince of Atlantis is a sea dragon shifter working on a Hot Shot fire fighting team with other “Mythical” shifters based in MT. Due to a recent risk aimed at Joe’s team (not fire related) his mother, the Pearl Empress of Atlantis, has sent a bodyguard to remain near Joe’s side until the situation improves. Unknown to everyone except Joe, the new bodyguard is his Mate. As Joe believes his future Mate will certainly die protecting him, he does everything in his power to discourage her, to get her to return to Atlantis.

Comments ~
1) WILDFIRE SEA DRAGON is bk3 of a 6bk series. The author recommends readers begin with book 1 so the introduction of characters and the beginning of the series’ story arc isn’t missed. For best enjoyment, I would agree.
2) WILDFIRE SEA DRAGON is a Fantasy shifter novel which includes unusual shifter characters (a Pegasus, Phoenix, Griffin, Hellhound and Sea-dragon). Although certain content is sobering (the physical results of surviving a fiery inferno), the tone for this series is kept mostly light.
3) I enjoyed the female character, Seven, a Squire in-training of the Knights of the First Order, protectors and warriors for the realm of the Pearl Empress, in the land of Atlantis. :D I enjoy female characters with honor, resilience and steadfastness when facing difficulty, with strong physical abilities (They can kick butt). And Seven could. I had mixed emotions regarding the MMC, Joe the sea dragon, heir to the throne. But by the end he did get his act together while explaining some of his earlier questionable behaviors. (Better communication could have avoided certain issues).
4) WILDFIRE SEA DRAGON contained its own plot and HEA, considerable action and humor, while moving the overall series arc closer to its final conclusion. I purchased a number of these books during a recent sale and intend to move on to the next book. The overall arc has caught my attention.
4) The WILDFIRE SHIFTER series is a “second generation” series. It follows the children of Chant’s “Fire and Rescue Shifters” series. The WILDFIRE SHIFTER series might best be enjoyed by those who read:
> Light Shifter Romance Suspense novels.
> Quick and easy, light/escape fiction (Palate Cleansers between more serious or other genres).
> Chant’s light Shifter Romances

READER CAUTION ~ Not recommended to readers who prefer Clean fiction or to YA readers.
PROFANITY - Yes. Strong language is used on occasion.
VIOLENCE - PG. Tone is fairly light.
SEXUAL SITUATIONS - Yes. Brief intimacy occurs (which could be skipped if desired).

Good - read on KU

This book was good. It was a little frustrating in one way and less in another. Neither Joe mor Seven denied their bond. It was nice for one of them to get to mate a shifter instead of a human and there was the overdone story if explaining shifters and mate bonds.

On the other hand, 80% of the book is waiting on the vision that happens in the beginning to come around. That was annoying.

This series is definitely better than the previous generation's series but I much prefer to read about every day firefighters over hotshots. While I very much respect what they do, it isn't something I want to read in every book. I once read a non PNR "romance" about a crew that did the same thing but were air dropped into places. The only difference was they had to know how to parachute into a a smoky area near a fire and would only have what they had dropped in with them and could carry. Having the story take place in spots where there are limitations on almost everything makes the books somewhat limited in diversity. The other book was interesting and much more detailed than this but I wouldn't have wanted to read a 6 or 7 book series about it.

If you have enjoyed the series so far, you will enjoy this book.

Wildfirefighter Sea Dragon, Joe Small’s stifled by the expectations of his station and his gift. Joe’s done his best to avoid meeting his mate but he’s out of time and options as his crew and parents scream at him about fire season deployment. Joe tries a last-ditch effort to repel his mate when he realizes meeting her is imminent.

Accompanying her frustrating instructor, Novice Knight of Atlantis, Seven, aware she’s expected to fail, is pleased her epic quest to retrieve Joe from an unknown Vegas casino and act as his protector. Hiding his eyes, Seven doesn’t recognize their matehood, but Seven thwarts Joe’s kidnapping by a demoness, checking him for injuries their eyes meet and she knows.

Joe’s vision includes the demoness and he sees her alternate plan could endanger his crew, so he reluctantly goes to work with Seven in tow. The legendary firebird seeks out the crew, in need of their help this time as the demoness’ strikes at the crew trying to bring her plan to fruition.

This was... I think perhaps the best way I could describe it is "a fun romp".

It fascinates me (and says a lot about my own internal biases) that despite the image on the front cover, the references to Joe's dark skin and the dreadlocks that sea dragons wear their hair in when taking human form, my brain STILL insisted on using Joe Mangianello as the visual basis for Joe in the book. Possibly it was his whole 'firefighter stripper' schtick at the beginning (thanks, Magic Mike). But knowing why he was the way he was right from the beginning meant I was willing to forgive him a lot that would normally irritate the hell out of me in an MMC.

Meanwhile, Seren/Seven was an interesting character that took a good portion of the book to truly understand. I really enjoyed her competence, while at the same time, feeling frustrated both with her and for her when it came to her interactions with Lord Azure.

Definitely looking forward to the next instalment in the series now.

This is a great read, humour, interesting characters, an immersive storyline

Yes, there are still some editing issues ... missing or wrong words (tense or form).
That being said, the dialog is humorous and fun. The descriptions often paint very real pictures in the head of the reader.

The sex scenes are still really too long although the steamy parts are some of the author's best to date.

She is still skipping over important bits of story and then dumping information that could have been interwoven more seamlessly throughout the book as a whole ...

I look forward to the next book in the series and I'm sure most readers will as well.
