Collects New Mutants (2019) #10-11, Excalibur (2019) #10, Hellions (2020) #2-3 and material from Wolverine (2020) #1.
Credits include: COMEBACK, SHELTERED, THE FIELD (Image Comics), SECRET AVENGERS (Marvel), ROBOCOP, SONS OF ANARCHY, HELLRAISER (BOOM!) and X-FILES/TMNT: CONSPIRACY (IDW). Plus, you know, a bunch of stuff I can’t talk about yet.
New Mutants - meh. Two parts to finish out this story.
Wolverine - a reread for me. It's not bad. Not sure if it ties into Aaron's Avengers run.
Excalibur - still love the art on this and it's getting closer to what seems like a conclusion. While I like Hickman's "white text pages" that detail something with the story, this particular issue basically explains exactly what is going on, but right in the middle of the story. Is the story that confusing that people need a recap, or is that just for "new" readers?
Hellions - love the art on this one as well. In this case a little recap on the characters of Pryor and her relationship with Alex would have been nice. Enjoyed seeing the "legacy" Marauders again. I also like this version of Psylocke instead of the other one trying to find herself.
I only finished this collection a couple of days ago and still had to page through it before typing up a review because I couldn't remember anything about it.
Honestly, that may be all I need to say about it. (but me being me, that won't be all that I say so...)
I enjoyed the New Mutants issues but primarily because I love these characters.
Wolverine was an okay start but vampires really aren't my thing.
Excalibur just needs to be brought to an end. Easily my least favorite of all of the dawn of x books.
Hellions was interesting but ultimately felt like it was trying too hard to be super mature. I'm all for bring back ms. Pryor, though, so I'm interested to see where this goes.
I found this one quite uneven. Al together it's a 3/5 read. Here ar my reviews on each part:
Hellions #2-3 : 4/5 it was amazing!! The plot and the entire design of characters were really well written. Sinister i think is finally in a good storyline in this new era and Psylocke too. The art as well was great.
material from Wolverine#1 :3/5 Sort of a re read so not much to say. Still not too keen on the art though.
New Mutants #10 : 1/5 I don't think at this point even they know what they're doing.
New Mutants #11: DROPPED (I'm officially tired of givin this another chance)
More and more I find these releases uneven. New Mutants under Brisson is rote and does nothing for the line, I still don’t know wtf goes on in Excalibur half the time... that’s half of book 11 so no, this isn’t one of the good ones.
Hellions is shaping up to be pretty good, it’s so dark and the art is nice.
Wolverine #1’s second half is collected here and again, looks great and the story has my attention however as a native French speaker I was absolutely discouraged that all 10 French words were either misspelled or were employed with poor syntax. Where the fuck are the editors?
Dawn of X (Vol. 11-16) X of Swords (full) Reign of X (Vol. 1-7)
** As a spoiler warning, do not read this review unless you've read all of the above issues, not just the volume where you've found this review. **
I did a massive multi-volume, multi-arc blitz recently and so I'm going to just drop a lot of what's hot here & going to be copying it down across a million books. My favorite thing literally is now and forever the Polycule going on in Summer House. I love his universe and am certainly very curious about the things still hiding in the shadows.
I'm glad Kitty found her way through that thing. I'm glad we didn't lose Betsy while we were in the other universe where death *sort of* sticks. Excalibur remains the most arrestingly gorgeous art. I'm still not interested in the one and only story comics know how to tell with Beast. I love the whole council and can't stop cooing over Erik as the Left Hand/Charles as the right (and even more so the bits where/how Jean & Scott are off to reform the X-Men #goodboy).
Jeanne & The Twins, in general, are back and I'm super duper in love with that. I really madly adore that there isn't any vast soap opera drama with any relationships or old bad blood that can't be given a new chance in Krakoa. There's such a breath of fresh air reading a lot of the choices Hickman and his writers have made. Illyana remains a badass demon-sorceress at all times, and Ororo remains a goddess. I loved all the Giant-Size art across Emma, Jean, Ororo.

At this point, I've read the entire first collection of this run of "Wolverine." The first issue (featured in this collection) is really strong, but things go progressively downhill from there. There are some interesting ideas, but I didn't love the title as a whole.
"Hellions" is a mixture of "potential for good stories" and "this is messed up."
I like the direction that "Excalibur" is taking, but it is always just so-so.
The version of "New Mutants" is the worst part of this collection, and one of the worst parts of the "Dawn of X" era.
Here is my ranking of the issues in this collection:
1. Wolverine 2. Excalibur 3. Hellions #3 4. Hellions #2 5. and 6. New Mutants - it doesn't matter what order, it's all bad
New Mutants 10: 3 ☆ & 11: 4☆ It's nice to see policitians and the internet re-framing the thruth to do their own bidings. Curious what the next story (vs The Media) will bring. Wolverine 1: 3,5☆ I was skeptic about vampires entering the world of Dawn of X, but it worked out pretty well. Excalibur 10: 3☆ Being not familiar with Jamie Braddock and his powers the whole reality warping was confusing at the beginning (thought is missed something with Kitty being back alive). This can turn out cool so benefit of the doubt. Helions 2: 3☆ & 3: 3☆ I like the art and it's nice to shit going downwards so fast. Like this whole team was bad idea from the start. Nice cliffhanger hope the villian wont turn out to be just villian of the week.
I’m basically reusing a review across this series, as it seems to hold as things go on. Overall it’s a bunch of highs and lows. Some books are consistently excellent (Marauders, X-Force, Wolverine, and it looks like X-Factor & Hellions will join that group) while some are middling to mediocre (Excalibur being the worst of the lot, plus Cable being so-so, and the main X-Men book varying in quality from one issue to the next). I’m still reading, so the overall whole is quality, and the whole setting that they’ve established is still unique and intriguing. It’s like a house of cards that we know is doomed to fall eventually, it’s just a question of when and how)
New Mutants #10: I guess I don't mind reading a lot of storylines that are just...go and fetch a mutant, but I found it kinda dull. I do love Glob though. Can we have a one-shot with Glob sharing recipes? 3/5
New Mutants #11: Some of the intricacies of the the world politics are interesting, with the new Krakoan nation, but found the actual adventure dull. Still like Glob. 3/5
Wolverine #1 : I like the noirish feel and sensibility, but vampires? siiiiigh 3/5
Excalibur #10: ugh 1/5
Hellions #2: Liked this marginally better than the first issue. 2/5
Another inconsistent but overall fun collection of mutant stories in the current Marvel Universe.I found the New Mutant issues, as well as the Wolverine issues to be premium X-stories. I'm very curious to see how Omega Red will end up fitting in to the current status quo.
I still find Excalibur pretty boring, but that's been true since the 80s.
The Hellions run is a cool concept, but the writing is dreck. I really wish there was a better writer assigned to bringing these lesser used characters to the forefront.
A good volume with the right issues inside. I am intrigued by Wolverine's story and am happy to see where it goes. Excalibur is making more sense now after losing me for a moment in the last few issues. And I like Psylocke much more in the Hellions storyline than Fallen Angels even though you weren't have her in Hellions if not for Fallen Angels (which isn't AS terrible as people claim but it's not stellar either). I liked the Hellions issues best but you get two of those and one of everything else so....
Kind of a middling Dawn of X volume. Excalibur is still doing whatever it is that it's doing, and New Mutants is kind of hit and miss for me. I am interested to see what will happen with Dox, though. Wolverine faces vampires, and it's fine. However, I found myself really interested in the Hellion issues, heavily featuring Madelyne Pryor. I've always felt bad for her, and I like how her appearances here have her as a slightly campy, threatening villain with a nugget of tragedy at the core. Her repeated insistence that she's "real" is almost painful if you know her history.
New Mutants (2019) 10 - 4/5 New Mutants (2019) 11 - 4/5 Excalibur (2019) #10- 3.5/5 Hellions (2020) 2 - 4/5 Hellions (2020) 3 - 4/5 (what was that first scene!) Marauders (2019) 10 - 3/5 (more of a filler. Its not the same without Kate. And why do they always go so extra with Emma) X-Force (2019) 10 - 3.5/5
In general I love this series and what they are doing/trying to do with an overarching aspect/premise for Mutantdom. But I must complain that Tina Howard and Leah Williams almost killed this for me. Are those two trying to BORE us to death? Ugh. Get thee to an Editor! Thankfully the other writers helped keep me reading.
New mutants 3.5 excited for the next story, this one was alright but the resolution could’ve been better Wolverine 3 Vampires are fun but not my favorite use of them Excalibur 3 I don’t understand the incursion thing, was the London attack not real and just a part of the other world ? Hellions 3 Seeing Madeline is fun but I there wasn’t much of a plot was there
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
2.5 a fun mixed bag. The New Mutants had potential but end the storyline stumbling into a new mutant with interesting powers but terrible character design. The Hellions are a hot mess that scramble into terrible Madelyn Pryor and yet, it's got my interest!
One word: VAMPIRES! TW for blood, death, violence, mind control, manipulation, threats to life, threats of doxxing, doxxing, threats of police brutality.
