Hildie Faraday thought her life was full. Coordinating care for the clients at the Helping Hearts shelters and community center is a job and a half, but when a client asked her to come to support her at a hearing, she’s right there to help. They teach women to be prepared for anything, but Hildie is shocked when she ends up in the cross hairs of a client’s abusive husband.

Texas Ranger Jake McGowan thanked his lucky stars that he was in the right place at the worst time. Working in Law Enforcement in San Antonio, he knew all about Hildie and the help she provides for women in need. Seeing her put herself between a woman and her gun-wielding husband brought his own feelings into the foreground.

Once he had Hildie in his life, he wasn’t going to let her slip away from him. Jake’s doing everything he can to show her how much she means to him, and Hildie’s giving it right back. It doesn’t take long for life to throw a bunch of obstacles in their way, and Hildie into the trunk of a car.

Jake will pull together local law enforcement officers to help him rescue Hildie and get her back into his loving arms. Will they get there in time?

There was a good balance of romance and police action in this book. I enjoyed Hildie in Sloane’s story, so it was nice she got her own story and man, Texas Ranger Jake McGowan.
It is a pet peeve of mind when an author can’t keep her own story line straight. In Chapter 2 it was mentioned twice that Jake’s sidearm had been taken from him after the shooting in the court house. I believe that is standard practice. Yet, that same day in Chapter 4, Jake “withdrew his sidearm from the holster.” He had surrendered his gun to a superior officer, so there would not have been a sidearm to withdrew from his holster. Then in the Epilogue, the author refers to her leading man by the wrong name- “Jack McGowan”. Stuff like that drives me crazy. Don’t author’s have proofreaders? Or read their own books?

I finished Justice for Hildie…. Wow, enjoyed it so much, downloaded it last night and read it today in one go! Well with lockdown and not having to go to work, it is a good distraction. Loved the book and loved all the other familiar names in the book. Always like the fact that all you guys books cross over.
Anyway, just wanted to thank you for giving me something else to focus on today and something to daydream about.

Enjoyed the foot in the mouth moments from Hildie and Jake... and wouldn't mind hearing from Anne again... might there be something between her and her 'Cajun protector" Owen? She a brave woman.

So... Jake has been watching Hildie for a while and he gets his chance to talk to her outside the court one day while she waits for a client. Things goes a little bit haywire, and after Hildie protects her client, Jake saves the day and gets to make an important arrest. (Don't want to say more and spoil things.) So anyway he ends up having to keep an eye on Hildie, EMT's orders, and things develop from there. They are both stubborn... and of course the protective alpha hero (than which we all love) does not make it easy for the "I can take care of myself" heroine... Though Hildie does sell herself short. She does not realize how much she contributes into making other's lives better.

Favorite quote from the book...
"Hildie always says she gets to work with a bunch of Big Damn Heroes, so that’s who we’re going to be today. Big Damn Heroes.”
I think with what we going through at the moment we can all say that everyone working on the front lines is Big Damn Heroes... And I want to say thank you to them for that... even though they probably wouldn't read this review.

So yes!!!! Great book. Would recommend it.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

HIldie Faraday helps those in need. Especially women who have been abused. Hildie will do whatever she needs to do to keep those women safe, even put herself in danger or between her client and danger. Ranger Jake MCGowan sees this first hand and nearly has a heart attack.
Jake has been drawn to Hildie for a long time but has never approached her. He knows she's a firecracker and wants to be near her. Jake never thought he'd ever see the day that HIldie would give him a moment's notice, but as he sits beside her in the courtroom where she has met to support Anne, she faces her ex husband to get a protective order. Jake can't believe he has gotten Hildie to talk to him much less sit down beside him in the courtroom.
Jake's worst nightmare ensues. HIldie steps between Anne and her ex husband as he draws a gun in the courtroom. THis puts HIldie even more the sights of her ex husband that's a known criminal.
Now Jake must keep hilidie safe from the nut. Plus side to this is he gets to keep HIldie close to protect her. HIldie is known for taking care of herself and not exactly feeling the need to Ranger Jake to have to take care of her. She thinks he is just doing his job. Hildie doesn't see that Jake really likes her at first.
THis is a really action packed read with lots of chemistry and plenty of the sharp wit of Hildie putting Jake in his place that made me laugh out loud a few times. Well written story that flows well and keeps your attention.

Hildie Faraday is a saint with sass - always taking care of someone else and standing up for others, but never looking out for herself. When Texas Ranger Jake McGowan meets Hildie, he’s enamored not only by her beauty, but her beautiful servant’s heart. Helping those in need is what Hildie does best and she loves the work she does until a client’s soon-to-be-ex-husband threatens her. Jake witnesses the heated encounter and vows to protect Hildie at all costs - whether she wants the protection or not. Hildie, being Hildie, gives as good as she gets and Jake is in for an adventure trying to keep this woman safe. When their plans go astray and Hildie is taken, can she count on Jake to rally those he trusts most to help save the woman who’s come to mean everything to him?

Shelter for Hilde is the fourth book in Reina Torres’ San Antonio First Responders series. Ms. Torres focuses her romantic lens on Jake McGown, a Texas Ranger, and Hilde Farady, co-owner of Helping Hands, a woman’s support group aimed at helping abused and battered women start new lives. Their circles intersect when both are in the same court when an abusive husband and wanted criminal, Joe Merrel, seeks revenge on his spouse, Annie. Hilde fulfills her commitment to Annie and gets her to a hide-away home. Furious Joe gets his minions to terrorize Hilde, thereby, activating Joe’s protective streak. Joe and Hilde develop an attraction to each other catapulting them onto their romantic journey. Can Jake keep her safe? What happens to Annie? Will Joe end up in prison? What will happen between Hilde and Jake? To discover their path, you must read this book.

Once again, Ms. Torres does a remarkable job in creating multi-dimensional and likeable lead characters. Her secondary characters are equally likeable. I enjoyed how she interjects suspense and intrigue through her antagonists, Joe Merrel and his minions. Through her use of descriptive language, Ms. Torres paints vibrant scenes as she captures the interactions between and among her characters. Ms. Torres manages to successfully incorporate several features of a classic romantic suspense: a dual-prong plot line, plot tension, descriptive language painting vivid scenes, intrigue behind the revenge actions of an estranged and abusive spouse and his minions, and strong dialog.

This was a story of a smart, brave woman who wasn't afraid to take the bull by the horns. It is a steamy romance that was just right for a diversion from what's going on in the world right now.
Jake was a wonderful hero (a Texas Ranger) and Hildie was just the right woman for him. She bravely protects women from abusive men and does all she can to ensure their protection. They made a great team to tackle the bad guys in the book. Hildie was stubborn enough to give Jake a run for his money--I loved it.
Reina Torres does a great job with anything she writes and Justice for Hildie was a prime example.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

Wow, the sparks sure to fly around Hilde and Jake. Hilde works at Helping Hearts Shelter & Community Center and Jake is a Texas Ranger. One of the clients has asked her to accompany her at an hearing. Which of course she does. Little does she know what is going to happen.

Jake McGowan is a Texas Ranger. H has known about Hildie and the work she does to provide for women in need.

Seeing her put herself in danger by positioning herself between her client and the woman's gun-wielding husband makes him realize his feelings for Hilde. The man disappears with Hilde. Will Jake and the local law enforcement officers find Hilde in time to save her? You must read this book.

Hero’s

Not all hero’s wear capes. We see it in the media and this book focuses on a segment of those heroes....the people who help save and protect domestic violence victims and survivors. Hildie was introduced in Sloan’s book and we meet Jake in this story. It appears they have instant chemistry but a few communication misses at first. Then their relationship more fast as does one of the cases that has the same person involved. We see Dax, Hayden, Wes and TJ from SS previous books and they bring a yummy Texas element to the story. A quick and fun read. Also, Hildie’s mom may be my favorite literary mother scene ever🤣

Having met Hildie Faraday in Justice For Sloane, I got a kick out of her sassy side and her sense of humor. I am very glad that she got her own story. Texas Ranger Jake McGowan was at the right place at the right time when he finally got the opening he'd been looking for to get closer to Hildie. That set off a chain of events that only reinforced how he felt about her. Hildie had been surreptitiously watching Jake and now she's able to live out her fantasies about him. They just clicked. When she's put in peril, Jake and his law enforcement brothers pull out all the stops to bring her home safely.

I really enjoyed this new book by Reina. We meet Hildie Faraday who helps clients at the Helping heart shelter and Texas ranger Jake McGowen. Jake has known Hildie through friends but doesn't realize his feelings towards her till now. I love the way they interact and really like the way Hildie thinks things and doesn't realize she says till it's out of her mouth! I liked Hildie's character she like's to take care of herself and makes the women's life where she works better. There's some action, suspense, and romance. You won't be disappointed! I received this book for an honest review.

I really enjoyed Justice for Hildie. I am so glad that Jake was there to help Hildie. Hildie is a strong, emotional woman who works with her best friend Sloane rescuing and assisting women. Jake is an amazing Texas Ranger. Anne is a client of Hildie's that she is working with to protect her from her husband that is in jail. She finds incriminating evidence that the Texas Rangers need to prove their case. How many people will get hurt in this because of the evidence that was found? Will Anne be safe from her husband?

Hilde works at Helping Hearts Shelter & Community Centre and Jake is a Texas Ranger. One of the clients – whose been a victim of domestic abuse asks her to attend a hearing and is shocked to be caught in the cross fire of her client’s abusive husband. Jake steps in and protects them and this is the start of relationship and how it progresses. Life gets in the way but I just loved Hilde and her quirky wit but mostly her ability to speak before thinking about what she was actually saying...hilarious!
A well written story that keeps you turning the pages and the chemistry and romance between Jake and Hilde is frustrating and funny!

Cute

I liked the story. Jake was an alpha and loved how he was towards hildie and the general population. He was a protector, through and through. I didn’t really like hildie as much as I did in sloans book or the other heroines previous. Idk why. I like that she stood her ground but not the way she just shut Jake out and basically only wanted him for sex and not to try and talk things through to come to a compromise. And Jake didn’t initially want to compromise either but he at least wanted to talk. He was just trying to protect her and keep her safe.

Stubborn pride

Hildie has issues from growing up with wealth, wanting to help others is what her and her best friend do after college, she has seen Jake around and when he saves her and another woman they get closer, both have the stubborn pride, excitement from beginning to the end, the good guys always win, big bad Texas rangers and Hildie helping to get people away from the violence in their lives, interagency friends, women with hearts of gold, keeps you wanting more, thank you, Dana Zamora

A fantastic read. Hildie is an independent woman and fun to be around. She always has a witty retort and is her own person. When she helps Annie, a woman from the shelter against her husband, it puts her in his crosshairs. Jake, Texas Ranger, has know Annie for a while and likes her. His protective instincts kick in when she's threatened. Her friend Sloane is protective of her also. A great read with a HEA.

Hildie has had a crush on Jake for years. They are around each other frequently, as they have mutual friends. They are unexpectedly thrown together when Hildie is wounded after her client's ex husband fires a weapon in the courtroom where Hildie accompanied her client to testify against her husband. The road to their HEA is definitely not an easy one. This book has everything, romance, danger and everything in between. Get this book ASAP. You won't regret it. Sorry, no spoilers

Another really good one!

I’m really loving Reina Torres’ books/series in the Operation Alpha world. Although Sloan & Vincente are my favorite couple, Jake & Hildie are a really close second. I love Hildie - kinda quirky, extremely loyal. Then there’s Jake - swoonworthy protective

Good drama & action. Lots of peeks of other characters you’ve met before. It’s an all around great read!

This book was awesome. I truly enjoyed reading it! I loved the characters Hildie and Jake. They are both so honest and caring. They don't see how much they help and mean to others. These two have chemistry that is explosive despite both not wanting to admit it. Their story will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is a definite must have! Check it out! I am voluntarily leaving my review after reading an advance reader copy of the book from the author.

Justice For Hildie

Jake and Hildie knew of each other for awhile but hadn't really gotten to know each other. When they both happened to be at the court house for different reasons, Jake decided to stay for a bit and chat with Hildie. Little did they know Jake would be saving her and life would never be the same again for either of them from a pleasant day to danger Jake would be with Hildie.

Ok, but Very slow.

The rest of this series has been pretty good so I had high hopes for this one as well.

It started out amazingly great, then the main characters go from barely speaking to each other (which is how they have interacted for months) to all the sudden they are dating and together all the time. It seemed entirely too forced.

And after the initial action in the beginning everything that happened was so slow.

Hildie loves helping women leave and heal from their abusive situations but she also loves Jake, a Texas Ranger. Jake loves Hildie but thinks she takes too many risks and only wants to protect her. When things get out of control will Jake be able to find Hildie in time? Or will hearts be broken in this heart thumping ride of terror? Loved it!!💞

I enjoy this series of books, I like the typical heroes of the books like Jake, whose job as a Texas Ranger is more of a calling and the heroines, like Hildie who has more heart and strength than she realizes. I love that their love story isn't perfect, they disagree and are both a little too stubborn sometimes. Mix that in with a criminal, dangerous situations and a happy ending and I am hooked. In these wierd times of fear for loved ones and our health, it's books like these that give me some time off from the news and worrying and just let me escape.

Justice for Hildie is Hildie and Jake are so perfect for each other but it takes them going through so much to realize it. I love how the characters from this book tie into characters from other books by this author. As always with this author the writing is well done, the characters are believable and the ending is perfect. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Good read

Hildie met Jake when she was with Anne at the courthouse. Anne needed a restraining order for her husband, who was using her as a punching bag. Jake was there for a warrant, until he saw Hildie. Then he joined them and was with them when her husband pulled a gun out. They were so glad he was there when the shooting started.
