His for the Taking

Rate this book
A Dark Mafia Romance

She's mine for the taking, and I'm going to take her hard.

I didn't come here looking for a dance from a pretty girl. I came to take someone, whether she wants to come with me or not. A girl who belongs to me, even though she doesn't know it yet.

Natalie Paulson is mine, every single inch of her, and I don't share what's mine. It's time she learned what happens to bad little girls who put my property on display without permission, and when I'm done it won't be just her cute little bottom that is well-punished, well-used, and sore.

Publisher's Note: His for the Taking includes spankings and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

What 🤔

Not what I was expecting. The Mafia theme was very, very light. The background on the hero and heroine was very underdeveloped. His idea of the truth was only to tell her he was a very bad man! Really. And how do you constantly punish someone because they are complicating your life or making you feel a way you don’t want to feel. This story was rushed and poorly put together. And Natalia had absolutely no substance.

You had to do a lot of assuming and I don’t like to do that. I finished it simply so I could see if it got better or at least ended well. It didn’t. Ending was very FLAT. I’m hesitant to read another by this author. The reason for the three stars are the sex scenes were steamy, otherwise it would have been a two. Totally disappointed.

I have three major problems with this book; one addresses content and two style:

Style:

1) Too much of what is important in this story happens off the page. For example, Lucy, Natalie's foster sister, is the latter's primary motivation for much of what she does; in addition, she is later the major source of conflict between Natalie and . Yet, though Lucy is crucial to much of the action, we really never see her; thus, we have no investment in either Natalie's attempts to protect her or in . In addition, it's very difficult to buy Alaric and Natalie's feelings for each other since all they do is have sex. They never actually talk (Alaric, like many H's in this genre, feels it's simply easier to just beat an h into submission rather than ever actually explain anything to her). Frankly, I'm getting very tired of books in this genre using this manufactured lack of communication as a plot device. It's old; it's frustrating; and, quite frankly, it's lazy. Which brings me to my second point...

2) Too much of this book is tell and not show. We are told -- ad nauseam -- that Natalie is the first woman that the "dark mafia" H has had feelings for, but I'm unclear why (other than the aforementioned sex). While we're privy to each character's thoughts, they almost never verbally express them so it's difficult to understand how the two could develop strong feelings for each other -- particularly since Alaric waxes hot and cold, and the understandably confused Natalie spends more than half this book afraid that he will kill her.

Content:

1) Here's the novel's blurb: "His for the Taking includes spankings and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book." (BTW, thank you Stormy Night Publications for finally realizing you can't use the misnomer BDSM when there's no consent.) But this goes beyond "spankings" -- even beyond what far too many of these books falsely label BDSM -- into torture. Case in point: "Or sometimes he would take me to his special room to be punished, and the punishment would be severe, even though I had done nothing." Now, this is the punishment:
Frustrated, I pushed her back onto her hands and knees and found a leather strap. Her ass was crisscrossed with the marks of my previous training, and I flogged her without mercy, making her count out her punishment, hoping that she would beg me to stop and let me know that she was broken. Her voice cracked, her skin turned red, and her hands shook when I made her rub the welts I had given her, but when I told her to put her hands on them and massage them, she did as I asked.

So, he punishes her in anger ("frustrated"), beats her severely ("without mercy"), and tries on purpose to "break her." Exactly how is this not torture and how on earth are we supposed to be invested in an H with so little self-control or concern for his h's emotional and physical welfare? In truth, the author's attitude to Alaric's treatment of Natalie is incoherent: he keeps saying he wants to "break her" (whatever that means); at the same time, he wants her to come to him of her own free will. I found Alaric as a character all over the place and, if I were Natalie, I'd have a very hard time trusting someone that mercurial.

One star. I realize I've started other of Ms. Madisen's books before and not been able to finish them. While this one I actually finished, now I know why...

PS. What exactly is the obsession in these "dark" romances with ? I mean, seriously, how can such relentlessly heteronormative writing ever be considered "dark?"

Not even worth 1 star

A hormonal female lead who keeps saying I don't even know you a million times but is eager to let the male lead do whatever he wants. I am so tired so ready books after books where women have no brain and act driven by their hormonal bodies. Each and every character is acting crazy and erratic.

🖋
Mystery Man avait l’air impatient.

"Comment t'appelles-tu, tigre ?"

I typically like dark mafia romances... but this is almost too dark. Once the hero does start to warm up, he doesn't really treat heroine any differently. This would have been the one time that an epilogue would have been nice. The story just kind of stops.

Taken but far from connected

Love mafia, forbidden, dark, etc but this was just a repetitive mess of angry/ not angry. It started out promising and took a dive fast. The sex scenes were okay but outside of that it had no more chemistry than a one night stand.

This is only the second book I’ve read from this author, but I really like her writing style. The plot is a dark one and there are certain scenes that could be possible triggers for some readers. It’s a mafia romance so I’d expect some consent issues at times and this book has that. I thought the characters had some depth to them and plenty of steamy scenes. An enjoyable read.

His For The Taking by Samantha Madisen is a dark romantic story. Natalie is a dancer who reluctantly auditions for a Russian strip club but is interrupted by Aldrich who punishes her for displaying herself to others. The club kicks her out and Aleric kidnaps her to his residence on a private island where he forces a Dom/sub relationship upon her since he believes she belongs to him.. There are some mafia elements to the book’s plot which has unexpected twists and steamy attraction.

Alaric had watched her from afar, now he was hooked….
He was not a good man but in Alaric’s world a man was only as good as his bond and the day that he had promised his friend Kirill Karik that he would keep his daughter safe, and since she was five years old he had kept a check on her, until two years ago when he had not been aware in the change of her circumstances and he was not a happy man….
Natalie Paulson had been working in Kitty Bank Bang for some time and she had made it clear to Andre the Russian owner that she was only prepared to wait on tables and nothing else, she was not a stripper, not an exotic dancer and certainly would not turn tricks for him either and they had agreed on this.
However, the bar had been taken over and was now under new ownership and when Andre had come to her and ordered her upstairs, she could tell he was scared Andre was never scared so she knew this new person was not to be messed with. However, she still told this new man “Al” he said his name was that she would dance and nothing more, she knew he was not to be messed with but she was no man’s prostitute.
Alaric could not believe it how the hell had she started working for Andre at his club, any one could possibly have recognised her as being Kirill’s daughter and would have had great pleasure trying to get to what they thought she knew. He could still see her when she had been five years old and had been in her father crashed helicopter, it was hard to believe that she was now nineteen and she was beautiful, proud like her mother and brave and smart like her father. He wanted her!!
This was a wonderful story where two very different people from very different worlds are strangely drawn to each other, he knows who she really is and what really happened to her parents and why she was an orphan at five years old.
He knew all about her, he knew her secrets and he knew that she would never be safe unless they changed their lifestyle completely, was he brave enough, did he care for her enough?
Read this great story and discover the answer to these questions!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

He wanted her, so he took her!

After a disturbing encounter with a very dangerous yet enticing stranger at the strip club she works at Natalia finds herself out of a job and out of hope. Nothing can get worse or so she thinks, she is wrong, so wrong. Alaric promised his friend that he would protect his daughter and a Mafia vow is set in stone. What he didnt want or need was his visceral reaction to the beautiful damaged girl. What happens when a bad man who loves control falls for a disobedient good girl makes for an intriguing and very hot story, with some scenes of spanking and dubious consent that some readers may find uncomfortable. I read this raunchy dark romance for free with Kindle Unlimited.

Meh.. it started off so good with the backstory of each character (which was never fully developed). Alaric could have been anything/anyone... nothing links him to the mafia other than his tattoos... References to Natalia’s fathers code being in Alaric’s tattoo was mentioned once and never again - is there going to be a second book? Just when it started getting interesting, I turned the next page to “The End” ?! What! So many unanswered questions, finished it being frustrated.

This is a great dark mafia romance. It is definitely different from what the author usually writes. Alaric is controlling and very confident. Natalia is trying to do the right thing and gets steamrolled. I wish there was more about their history, I'm left with many questions. The HEA ending is rushed, but overall, I enjoyed the story. There is lots of spankings and discipline in this story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a very dark romance featuring a male lead (Aleric) who appears to be anything but a decent heroic type of individual. He comes into Natalie’s life at a rather inopportune time, just as she is reluctantly trying out her first gig as a performer at a Russian strip club. However, he doesn’t just sexually assault her, he also spanks her then leaves her a bag of money, AND gets her kicked out of the Club. All without any explanation of any kind! He is NOT a nice man. The next thing we know, he kidnaps her (for reasons unknown) and takes her away to his personal residence on his own private island where a D/s relationship is virtually forced upon her. He may be rich, but he is still not a nice man. Told from alternating first person viewpoints this sexually explosive story details their erotically driven relationship in very graphic terms. While the REAL story takes a quite a while to be revealed, the hot sex will keep the reader more than entertained and engaged. Lots of interesting twists and turns as well. 4 Sexy Stars

I like this book; I just wish that there could have been a little more background on Natalia, who her parents are, their backgrounds and their relationship with Andrej. Granted, I am all for cutting out all the unnecessary dribble; however, in this particular case, a couple of paragraphs would not have had me similarly confused as Natalia. In these pages, will come across sexual D/s scenes, power exchange, and punishments that fit with the personality/characteristics of Andrej so are not out of place.
Andrej may be part of the Russian Mafia; however, it is not the focal at all, more like "heh I work with" rather than all-consuming as the title hints.
I'm glad I read this story!

Obsession to protect

I really enjoyed this book, it was dark in a sense that the evil of this world was trying to consume the couple. Alaric although a bad man by trade and design was ultimately brought to heel by the woman he was sworn to protect, by falling in love with her. Natalia although a fighter at heart couldn't deny the feelings alaric stirred within her. Would have loved to see if this story was taken further on the dark twisted tale of the people after her and him doing anything to stop them. Maybe the author may consider that in the future.

Alaric and Natalia

This was good. Passionate, intense, and kinky. But it needed a little more context. I needed to know why Natalia's father told Alaric to look out for her. I assumed they both were mercenaries assigned high level kills and since her dad died first he asked it. Some of her backstory was mentioned but I like having the whole thing. His character was more intense than hers. Overall the book was entertaining.

A mafia romance always has lots of drama, intrigue, surprises and so much more. This author's books are very well written and exciting, She did something this alpha male with the mafia is going to make her pay in his own hot and steamy way. Loved it and couldn't put it down. I recommend it. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.

Not dark and barely touched the mafia side

Ok story but the title was very misleading. The mafia side was never truly seen, very vague and not defined topic. The darkness side of the book was touched via the sexual side of the story but nothing else. The book lacked a strong story line
