I wanted her the first moment I laid eyes on her, but she was already taken. For two years I stood by, dying inside each time I saw them together but I’m not the kind of man to dishonor another, so I walked away. Now he’s gone, taking the easy way out and leaving her to clear his debt. I will take care of it, with one condition. That she becomes completely mine. An obsessive possessive passion romance
"Claiming What's Mine" is the story of Gisell and Gavin.
Well this was different.
In contrast to the usual JS tropes, this one has a h who is married and trapped in an abusive marriage, and the hero stays at his distance and pines for her while stalking her. He also screws OW to forget her, but cannot bring himself to marry her. When the h's bastard husband suicides, the hero swoops in to rescue, fuck and breed her. He also brings her perpetrators, aka the rich and pervy senator FIL to justice.
Honestly, this was LONG with loads of inner monologues and ramblings. It went on for pages and pages, and you had the same scene from two POVs. Yes, the sex was hot, and when is it not in a JS read, but the story was average at the best. The ending was sweet too, albeit a bit rushed.
Another Jordan Silver book. This one is a standalone book. The writing isn't as good as her earlier works and I had a hard time trying to finish this book.
First the blurb sounded interesting but then I read some reviews telling how little dialogue there is and how the inner monologues outweigh it all. I was hesitant just for that reason alone but then I read Nicole's fantastic review and it helped me decide immediately. So, now I say, "No, thanks but no..."
This was my first book by Jordan Silvers, and it will be my last 🙃
There was barely any dialogue between Gavin and Giselle. This entire book was just one large internal monologue. I literally skimmed/skipped entire pages and didn’t miss anything 😴
Also, the smexy scenes were kinda awkward due to some poor word choices (ie: cock spit, rod, meat, cunt juice 🤢)
So I could not complete this book.. I stopped after finishing the 7th chap (16% mark)
(Context)-Walk with me a moment..
It should have been a sign for me not to pick this up and open it. This book had been in my KU library for over a year now. That was odd for me, because this is a Jordan Silver book. Yes, it has been a long while since I've read anything by this author but I love this author and have read many books from her in the past. Most of them I loved. Some I liked, and only very few I didn't like.. So again, strange that every time I went to read this book I would pass it over for another at the last minute. I should have paid attention to that.
Well, my kindle version said this book was over (399)Pgs. Though I stopped at page (62), I decided that what I was seeing just wasn't worth my time enough to find out if things eventually changed for the better.. So after posting this book update below, yesterday, I thought on it:
" So 7 chaps in.. And although I STILL have no clue what Gavin or Giselle look like, I have to say Gavin is THE MOST repetitive guy with his thoughts I have EVER encountered. How many ways can this man say the same damn thing in his head over and over? It's driving me bonkers! I'm dying for some actual dialogue here. I thought it would change with the brief chaps with Giselle.. NOPE. She's just as repetitive as his a&&...I'm really hoping that things begin to move now as far as plot and getting way more dialogue. The set up has been SET UP to ad nauseam proportions, trust me.. So please let us begin the art of showing me some emotion and resolutions here."
So, after thinking on this statement I had made, I decided to not go any further. What was put in the book thus far had me thinking that this was either a ghost writer, or Ms. Silver has lost her Mojo. At least with this story she has.. She usually has a good handle on the male psyche and delivery. Since this book is mostly in Gavin's POV, I thought he would be interesting, but he is not. Then when I got Giselle for those brief moments I realized she too, was not all that interesting either. They both THOUGHT at each other to death. Neither talked to each other when interaction was crucial. For those 7 chaps, 98% of each of them were inner monologues.. And they were both pretty much saying the same things over and over in their heads. So the movement of the point and plot was non-existent for me. Which served to annoy me.. I have a sixth sense about these things so I decided to abort mission while it made sense for me to do so. Especially considering my genesis with this book to begin with.
The plot or premise had promise, but the execution of all of it in those first 7 chaps, led me to believe that it was not going to be a good read or worth the struggle to get to the sunlight here..
So I can't say that I would recommend this read.
Book was published (2019)- Kindle Edition (399)Pgs. Book was currently on KU at time of this DNF-review.
The plot itself is great, but the writing was awful in so many ways. Doesn’t anyone proofread anymore? Where are the editors to offer up guidance?
First off, I’m not sure if the author is male or female, but I’m leaning towards a male. I’ve never read a romance book that had a male character’s thoughts leaning so much towards bragging about the size of his dick, nor have I ever come across an author that felt that need to give an inch size. It was just weird.
Then let’s jump to his outright threats of killing the female he supposedly loves. Who the hell wants to hear that?!? There is possessive (sexy), and then there is psycho (not sexy).
Have I mentioned how awful this book starts out? I’m talking page after page, chapter after chapter of thoughts with very little interaction. It was horrible!
Let’s go back to the apparently brag-worthy male part and the sex scenes that ensued. A couple of scenes involved the character trying to - and successfully accomplishing - breaching the woman’s cervix opening so he can release in her womb while “she screamed bloody murder”. Um...no thanks. Is that even possible? I’ve read hardcore novels, but that right there ruined the whole “romance” factor and literally had me cringing.
Next up on the list of not-to-dos; the author either has an obsession with exclamation marks or doesn’t understand how they are suppose to be used. Maybe he or she was trying for punctuation variety, but the effect was annoying. There were so many other grammar and punctuation errors throughout the book that someone should be fired if they claim they read this over and didn’t spot any. Does the author understand there is a difference between “worse” and “worst”?
Grammar aside, the story doesn’t get interesting until halfway through the book. By that point I had almost given up reading it. By the last quarter of it, the story and writing (minus grammar and punctuation issues) was excellent. If the author can harness that and gain some better writing skills, some great stuff can come of it.
Gavin Sorrento is in the middle of reviewing paperwork to close the deal of a lifetime when he receives a call he’s been waiting a long time for. Kevin, his best friend and head of security calls to inform him that “she” is free. Who is she ? Giselle, the woman Gavin has been head over heels in love with for over two years but he’s had to sit back and patiently wait. Giselle was already married to Vance, the son of a senator when her and Gavin met. Vance is a manipulative, rotten, POS, and he’s just put a gun to his head and taken his own life. Kevin tells him she’s currently at the police station answering questions and Gavin immediately goes there. He’s waited patiently for two years and kept his distance from her but no more. Giselle is his and he will not let anyone stand in his way not even her former father in law.
Gavin has wanted Giselle since the moment he saw her. However she was married and off limits. Now she is free but embroiled in trouble and Gavin moves swiftly to have Giselle by his side no matter what.
I liked the idea of this one but I didn't see the connection as much until midway through the story. Entertaining.
I’ve been a Mama Butterfly fan for a long time. This story was longer and deeper than her usual Alpha man stories. The plot was good and the sex off the chain. I did feel as if it was to wordy in the beginning. It took forever for them to interact with one another. Ms. Silver always delivers with the supporting cast! You become enthralled and curious about what their lives will be like if she continued the story!
This was so unbelievably slow moving I literally was flipping pages/scanning pages at times.
I’d sincerely be surprised if there was more then 1-2 pages of actual dialogue between characters.
I stopped reading it when the H gave the h a... $13 million 40 carat Diamond ring Also, he’s so rich he can buy 99% of the free world? Give me a freaking break. Ridiculous, ridiculous, ridiculous.
Also, what’s with chewing on the h’s nipples all the time? Couldn’t it be something else instead of sounding like a dog with a rawhide?
D.N.F.!! WHY? you may ask yourself.🤔 Those of us who 'Live' in our heads can not take some mental images or imagery!🤦 Jordan NEEDS to 'Grow' in (how) she has her🏋️Alphas🐾 expressing themselves towards their Obsessions..uhh😆I-I mean their Lady Love💃. Brutality 🤼and or near Rape, Is NOT Sexy... At.ALL. And with a side of Threats to kill 🔪💀👀, IS a Deal Breaker.😒Period. *I May come back to it in a year or two 🕝🕑 maybe, because I do like some of Jordan's writing. If so, I'll be Back! with an Updated Review.🤳☺️
It was obvious that a man wrote this, everything was exaggerated.Penis size, stamina, always having his"homies "around, and by the way everything was worded.Note to author, calm down on the harsh home boy talk,be a tad more realistic and more interaction between characters, too much inner monologue.Do that and the stuff you write will not only make you money it will make your readers happy.
Jordan Silver does it again!!!!! Totally in love with this book!!!!!😍😍😍😍 wonderful story! Gavin & Gisell ..... Is it bad I just want to start reading it again!!!!
Great read. I loved it. Lots of steam! Yes, there is lots of internal thoughts, but I think it helped me connect with the characters. Om drama-just the ex in law. Safety gang: There was mention that her husband forced himself on her, but it wasn't descriptive. I just like to mention when it is.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I bought this on Audible. Listening to the first three chapters felt completely redundant, because the MMC kept saying the same things in his head over and over again.🙄 Just......no.
I love a good Jordan Silver book....not many can rock the "hard core alpha I take what I want and don't apologize because my woman is my world and she is well satisfied" like her😈😍
This book was not lacking at all in that department ....key the fanning of the face and other bit😉...however I felt like otherwise it was a good solid story of two people who felt an Insta attraction but unfortunately were unable to do much about it due to their current situations.I
Lots of angst and deceitful plots to follow....Lots of heartfelt inner monologues and a wonderful hea....as is the case with Ms Silver's books.
The only bit that kept it from a five star review is that I felt the beginning took a long time to get through....and I realize it may just be me, the writing and story was great....just the start seemed to make me work to get through, something I've never dealt with with get books...believe me I've read em all lol.
Give a shot, it was worth it and the ending gave me the feels, so yay!!! Another win for Jordan...and me😋
It's a good story. I like that there was no cheating despite Giselle being married when she met Gavin, but man oh man, this story had an overabundance of internal monologue. I think a lot of it could probably go and the story wouldn't suffer. The whole beginning is just this long diatribe about how much Gavin feel in love with Giselle at first sight but had to love her from afar, blah, blah, blah. I get it; I feel it, but it goes on and on. I kinda started just skipping pages because there really is only so many ways you can say the same thing before you are beating a dead horse. It seemed that beating the end of the book the internal dialogue started to lessen and there was more things occurring externally, even then it seemed rushed after spending the day majority of the book in the characters heads not really doing much.
This is a great story with wonderful characters and I definitely recommend it as a must read. Jordan Silver has a unique writing style that I truly love. I swear I read her books with a permanent smile on my face.
Giselle and Gavin’s story kept me turning the pages. There was a lot more than what you think. I feel like the story really gained momentum as it went. It got better and better and Gavin was the usual OTT we have come to love from Jordan.
I have really enjoyed some of this authors work but this one I couldn't even get through it without cringing. The inner dialogue for more than half the book was boring and over the top. Gavin has been in love with Giselle for 2 years and since she was married he tried to move on. When she is suddenly free he makes his move and makes her mine. Gavin's obsession with Giselle was creepy and more on the side of stalkerish. Giselle literally loses her husband, even thought he deserved it, Gavin gets her and brings her home. Then he has sex with her which read more like rape. His inner thoughts were gross to read. I literally skimmed and skipped a lot of this because it was nothing but him having sex with her constantly, even while she was sleeping and they weren't written in a way that was comfortable to read. For someone who "loved" her he sure did treat her like his property.
I really wanted to like this, and the blurb made me really excited about the plot. Unfortunately, I gave up. At 42% the main characters hardly talked to each other, and the heroine in general, hardly talked at all (nodding and blushing do not amount to “talking”). Most of the plot by then was made up of internal monologue of the main characters. This is a dual POV, and we get the background and their present thoughts. Still, even the internal dialogue was WAY too much! At 42% I was exhausted, not a lot happened and even the s*x was too long, and boring (again, too many internal thoughts peppered with “cum juice” and “cock spit” references…. ).
I’m at 25% and the entire story so far has been internal monologue. I’m so tired of reading about these two characters thoughts with only minimal actual engagement between them. It’s really frustrating and I’ve started skimming to try to get to some actual plot and dialogue.
So dialogue is practically nonexistent throughout this book. Their first time, he’s jealous & threatening her if she even looks at another guy. And the sexy times sound violently painful rather than sexy. This man’s obsession with penetrating her cervix to her womb are ridiculous. Everything is over the top unrealistic. His wealth, his member, his obsession. I don’t particularly like him. And I find her pathetic. Not a good read.
A story of how true love can overcome horrendous nightmares from the past. The story is awesome. What I really liked is that it had drama without the cliche kidnapping that some authors feel compelled to include. There was no need here. The tension continued throughout without the gimmick.
The characters are great. The whole Sorrento family is great. Even the supporting characters are well developed.
Actually had a really good story line but was ruined by the incessantly long, and I mean chapters and chapters of internal monologues, with barely any conversation between characters. In the end, I had to skip pages of internal monologues. Found it didn’t detract from the story so really makes me wonder what exactly did they contribute?
Once I got into the habit of skipping the, sometimes repetitive, monologues I enjoyed the story more.
I am not a fan of chapters of inner dialog and this has a lot. Not that it was written well I like more inter action between characters. Silver has a way with alpha males. Over the top living kickass alphas, taking care of their own.
Probably won't read again like I do Lyon books but it was a good weekend read.
On this was a strange as freaking book. The main character is obsessive compulsive of a girl he meets and falls in love with. Oh but wait she is married and his and her moral code will not allow for an affair. So begins a two year silent yearning that is sick. Oh did I mention he has a twelve inch dick.lol Enjoy
Stalker = H saw the h two years ago and it was love at first sight but h was married so he backed off. When H hears that h is single (husband offed himself), he immediately scoops up the h like a dragon hoarding his gold.
I still believe that any H written by the author would split any h in two considering the author doesn’t seem to write a H with a peen smaller that 10 inches….one even had 13, like WTF??? But I guess it is fiction 😉
