(because as much as I read, it was great) —but, I can't rate a book simply for how much I read.

This book is a set of 5 stories.
I read the first story which was really good and sweet. I was really enjoying this book till some 100 pages but I lost interest after that. I tried to read and be lost in it but couldn't.
So it ended up dnf-ed.

A fantasy book I'd recommend to people under the age of 14. The writing is very simple, the plot progress is great, not too fast or too slow. A concept of the kingdoms having war and dragons helping one of them win it. (I think I'm not saying this right) And this book also presents a way to communicate with the dragons.

𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖
Croft, an orphan child somehow found in the horse stable at Orchid, loves to take care of animals. He knows that Dragons exist and all he wants is to see them, be with them. But of course, no one lets him. But they do offer him a place to live in, and Dane, the captain treats Croft as if he's his father. He loves him. And Croft loves him too. He's restricted from going to dragons or attempting to go too but Croft always tries to do so and gets caught and ends up punished, apology after apology.
One day, he escapes his room at night and has a little contact with the dragon. After which, he gets sick and no one understands what's happening to him. Little does anyone know, he's becoming a Draman.
It's a beautiful little fantasy and someday, maybe I'll finish it too but for now, I think, leaving the book till I've loved it is better than going into a reading slump.

The book “Rise of the Draman” by Alexander Elliot is an epic fantasy and adventure, some way mixed with mythology and folk tales. I believe the book is great for all ages, but surely, younger auditory will love it more.
It consist of 5 parts, each is unique and well structured. The novel set in the medieval kingdom where the boy called Croft/an orphan/ (protagonist), becomes the first Draman - the one who is able to communicate (directly) with the beasts.
In general, there are 4 kingdoms or places with own sets of amazing heroes and all is marked (pictures/maps) very carefully.
Author’s portrayal of the dragons - their humanity, communication and feelings is absolutely magnificent!. Loved short explanation to each part, all details on maps and cast of characters (explanation).
Overall: written with excellence; intriguing; complex, a lot of new elements for a dragon story, fun read.

RISE OF THE DRAMAN is a collection of five stories that follow the life of a boy called Croft. Set in a land where dragons and humans live together but don't really communicate, one small boy makes a big difference.

I loved how the stories all followed on from each other, giving greater insight to Croft and his relationships not only with Rueloo but also his nestmates, his father, and his friends.

One of the best parts for me were the dragons themselves. They had just as much to learn about the humans as the humans did about them. It made for some amusing moments!

Whilst this is predominantly a young adult fantasy, I thoroughly enjoyed every word and would love to have more from Croft and Rueloo. A brilliant book that had me gripped. Absolutely recommended by me.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was definitely a story to my heart, for me it doesn't have to be action or horror or thrilling all the time. It is nice just to see how a dragon community is been built up. I really enjoyed the relaxing parts of the story, the friendships and family bonding. From the moment Croft escapes and the unfortunate bond with his favorite dragon, a new era has born for the people of Spiredale and the kingdom.

They forge an alliance with the dragons because the neighboring kingdom wants to invade their little kingdom. From then on we get to know how Croft is bonding with the dragons and how they going to build up a new generation of Dramans. The world building is amazing and I am feeling at ease with it and want to definitively read some more. Of course here and there through the story a villain rises up, but can Croft and the new Dramans take on this challenge. I also love the beautiful relationship between his adopted father who he meets in the beginning of the story and takes care of him.

Overall it is a good and solid story , with lots of adventure and action but also family and friendship is offered through this stories.

This is a delightful collection of 5 short stories, each picking up where the previous one left off. I got the digital version free from a Bookbub email, but I was not asked to leave a review.

The first 3 stories were very simple and felt written for middle grade readers. They were a bit slow, but I'm glad I kept reading. I happen to love the YA genre, specifically stories that are not about real life, so this was right up my alley, even as a grown woman in my 30's. I think my 8 year old daughter would love this collection, as well. I enjoyed the last two stories most of all, but I think it's because the world building happens a little more with each story, so those two felt a bit more advanced.

The author's note at the beginning says that they were originally published on his blog as individual short stories, then he combined them to publish this book. But I would love to see each story developed into its own book. There is enough creativity and there are enough characters to do it, but I'm sure it would be a massive feat. Here's hoping!

I found this to be such a happy, light, easy read. I love the variety of characters, especially in terms of the dragons - the different colours, as well as species, and all the dragons were unique in personality as well. I like the bonding idea, as well as dragons being seen as sentient, and respected. The book felt like a collection of short stories all feeding into one, which I liked a lot, as I felt like after each “story” there was a new plot device or new adventure, without being too much at once. I would highly recommend this book to children and preteens especially, but I feel all Dragon enthusiasts will enjoy it. •Note - I received an advanced review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I bought this book not having read fantasy fiction before. This author kept me interested from the beginning. While it is a fairly long novel, it covers a relatively short amount of time in the lives of its characters. The story was well-paced and multifaceted. The characters were fleshed out and you develop a fondness for them. To be honest, this book would probably appeal more to a younger audience - pre to late teenagers -as it is written in a very straight-forward, uncomplicated way. It's a pleasant tale (aside from a few grisly scenes) with easily overcome obstacles. The angst that is presented, while palpable, is short-lived. But, as my first foray into medieval fantasy, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it!

This is a series of 5 books chronicling the boy Croft's life from the time he sneaks out of the orphanage to see the dragons to the time he and his bonded dragon Rueloo help defeat a nasty king and restore peace to the various countries. It is well written and interesting also for adults, although the language is quite simple and good and evil are well defined. There is excitement but nothing to cause nightmares. The author developed a good world, and new ideas about dragons as well, and very likeable characters - I enjoyed following their lives and development. Recommended! - I received a free review copy and voluntarily leave this honest review.

Well I love this book. Croft is an amazing character and well rounded. The story is easy to follow with all The twists and turns a good book requires. I struggled to put this book down.

I would have liked a little more in certain places in the book just the help with the flow of the story but this is for my own selfishness of wanting more from this book. Please tell me there will be more from these characters as they are just unforgettable.

I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.

A well written adventure story that is suitable for all ages. A young boy, Croft, dreams of dragons and he runs away from the Abbey where he is abused by one of the monks and fortunately meets Dane, a friendly soldier who takes him under his wing. Croft has many exciting things before him when he meets the dragons. Very creative, imaginative storytelling that will appeal to any age group. Thanks for the reading pleasure.

A well written fantasy with dragons and riders, king and nobles, and enough action, humor and pathos to craft an enjoyable story. The story works well, with steady, easy world building that has the reader learning along with our young hero and his companions. Ends on a positive promise for the future.

I really enjoyed this work - the setting and story were well-written and immersive, and the characters were relatable. The way the work was subdivided into short stories was an excellent way to follow the development of the protagonist and the way his world changed around him.

What An Awesome Book!!!! Let there be dragons! In abundance!!! Alexander Elliott is a master at world-building and character development, and Rise of the Draman is a prime example of this. In this series of stories, we are introduced to a young orphan, Croft, his dragon, Rueloo,. We follow their adventures and trials and tribulations throughout several kingdoms, and meet many well-developed characters and fall in love with each of them….except for the bad guy. There is always the bad guy. Words that come to mind in response to this book are exciting, delightful, addictive, entertaining, and idyllic. Truly, this book has left me wanting more from this world by this author. Highly recommend!

Croft runs away to see the dragons, and this starts a great tale

Croft ran to the town the dragons visit. His goal was to see the dragons. Maybe make friends with them So he talks his way into an apprenticeship with the Captain of the fort and gets his chance to meet the dragons, make friends with a dragon and change the world around him forever.
Exciting, fun, heartwarming

This book was a fresh take on the relationship between humans and dragons. I felt that the author had some really good ideas and he made the story believable and absorbing. I really couldn't pick out my favourite part if I tried, because there wasn't a single part of it where I felt bored or wanted to put the book down. I think my favourite character was Croft, because he was adventurous and the way he changed the kingdom's way of life is incredible. If you like How To Train Your Dragon this is the perfect book for you. If I see more of Alexander Elliot's books I will definitely read them, as he is a really good writer.

Rise of the Draman is a narrative spread over 5 stories that revolves around main character and orphan Croft who becomes the first documented Draman in the Kingdom of Spiredale after bonding with a dragon.

With this (and the establishment of the first link between Spiredale and the dragons) as catalyst and the subsequent setting off a domino effect - the Kingdom of Spiredale, its people and beyond are forever changed.

As a big fan of world building especially in fantasy worlds, I absolutely enjoyed the exploration of the dragons’ world (which was very fascinating) along with the concept of the Draman themselves.

I especially enjoyed the changes brought about due to Spiredale and the dragons being able to interact through the Draman’s role as mediators between these societies, and how everything in Spiredale was affected by this event down to its economy.

Rise of the Draman is a fascinating book about dragons and their bonded along with excellent world building and an enjoyable cast of characters.

The only nitpick I have about this book is that at times the writing suffers a little bit in places but it isn’t too bothersome.

Highly recommended for fans of world building, dragons, and fantasy worlds.

Received as an ARC copy, this is an honest reviews. Croft may have begun his life as an orphan but he'll end up playing a major rule of the destiny of the kingdom of Spiredale. Bonded to the powerful dragon Rueloo that not only gives Croft family he never really had but is also forever changed because of the bond. Whether it's taking dangerous wild animals threatening villages to other dragon bonds going completely awry; this complete story bundle delivers an endless series of adventure, tears and laughter the whole way through. Highly recommended.

Amazing 👏🏽

This book has amazing adventures. Croft had a hard upbringing. He was not treated well in the orphanage he grew up in. A priest there constantly whipped him for small infractures. He survived and went in search of dragons. He soon finds and bonds with a dragon he's been seeing and waving to. He and his dragon have been on so many different adventures together. It has only made their bond stronger. Captain Dane took Croft in and became his father. Because of the bond, Croft was about to bring change to the kingdom. He was honored and consulted by the king and the nest master. They are an outstanding pair, and everyone loves them. From Croft and his dragon, the dragonettes, the Dramon and their dragons, and all the other orphans they help. This book was well written, entertaining, and kept my engrossed in their story. I'm looking forward to the next book. I'm looking forward to seeing how the merfolk and the forest dragons are received when they arrive.
