Sienna looked like a different person compared to the first book. The plot was just ok.
I had greater expectations for this book.

damn...

so, after the ultimate betrayal, the heroine made towards the anti-hero, for whom she developed feelings, after all...this man's moto or modus operandi is written on the cover of this book and the first book as well.
She's a traitor.
And I kill traitors.

I execute my enemies.

these are the statements of a cruel man, a man that is unreachable cause of his power, his money, he's paranoid and obsessed by the power and the need to control it all, as long as everyone bows to him, either out of fear or respect...

except for her...
she's under his skin...
she's there, pulsating, wanting him, giving him all and resisting him at the same time...
she's infuriating and he can't NOT to give into her...
and now, it's not only her in the picture...

BUT if he kills his enemies...can he live with the lingering thought
Is she my enemy?

all I can add to the above, is that the interaction between these two characters, the crime lord Cato Marino and the feisty strong woman Siena Russo remind me so much of this song....
"Trying Not To Love You" by Nickleback

You call to me, and I fall at your feet
How could anyone ask for more?
And our time apart, like knives in my heart
How could anyone ask for more?

[Chorus]
But if there's a pill to help me forget,
God knows I haven't found it yet
But I'm dying to, God I'm trying to

'Cause trying not to love you, only goes so far
And trying not to need you, is tearing me apart
Can't see the silver lining, from down here on the floor
And I just keep on trying, but I don't know what for
'Cause trying not to love you
Only makes me love you more
Only makes me love you more

And this kind of pain, only time takes away
That's why it's harder to let you go (That's why it's harder to let you go)
And nothing I can do, without thinking of you
That's why it's harder to let you go (That's why it's harder to let you go)

[Chorus]
But if there's a pill to help me forget,
God knows I haven't found it yet
But I'm dying to, God I'm trying to

'Cause trying not to love you, only goes so far
Trying not to need you, is tearing me apart
Can't see the silver lining, from down here on the floor
And I just keep on trying, but I don't know what for
'Cause trying not to love you
Only makes me love you more

[Bridge]
So I sit here divided, just talking to myself
Was it something that I did?
Was there somebody else?
When a voice from behind me, that was fighting back tears
Sat right down beside me, whispered right in my ear
Said, I've been dying to tell you

That trying not to love you, only went so far
Trying not to need you, was tearing me apart
Now I see the silver lining, from what we're fighting for
We just keep on trying, we could be much more
'Cause trying not to love you
Oh, yeah, trying not to love you
Only makes me love you more
Only makes me love you more

I’m a quitter. This is a second book in a series that didn’t start out great for me to begin with. I wanted to give it a second chance due to all the great reviews. What am I missing here??

Seriously, I couldn’t do it. The narration was like nails on a chalkboard with the weird timing, emphasis in odd areas and just NO! I simply quit about 60% through. In the last year I’ve listened to a ridiculous number of audiobooks (along with many hard copies), and this is my first “I just can’t” experience besides a return after about three pages into another with such bad writing - which I won’t mention (thank you Audible for free exchanges).
That being said, I may still attempt a hard copy with this author at some point.. maybe. Sometimes it’s just best to move on. It’s me, not you..

Sienna came out a little bitchy several times...
Cato took her in after she ran away to easily.
The drama created by Bates is getting annoying!

There's an edit error in my version, at 85% mark the baby is refer in plural, like she was having twins in a first version and then altered to single baby! There's a lot of the "they".

I loved this book but I found that it was a bit slow-paced as compared to the other two books.

It was good but the other two books in the trilogy are great.

A lot happens in this book but in the other two books, the plot develops so much that I was sitting at the end of my seat with a tissue box nearby (I don't even cry when I read, like never. But book one and three had me damn near tears from the emotional rollercoaster).

This one is probably my least favorite of the trilogy. I love it but I FREAKING LOVE the other two books TO DEATH.

I just knew it that this one would be a downfall.I almost DNF it but I got all my anger out so I could finished it.Its nothing compared to the great first book I really enjoyed so much. The funny banter the romance the passion and the growing chemistry between this two from the first book are completely gone ..puff boom 💥 just like that. Why authors do this all the time ? I mean this could have been all wrapped up in one book and not being in danger to ruin the plot and story with a stupid series. Its rare to find a great series because authors tend to exaggerate with cheating , drama a lot of awful words no one want to hear or read and then theres only blah blah blah and actually nothing happens because the plot from the first book is already out and used up.My heroine is a complete other character now I don’t like the hero is a even bigger pig but that he were from the beginning so it’s ok.For safety it’s not (always )safe even if this two are not in a real relationship it.I’ll try and finish it

As the story continues, the momentum this series has created kept me on the edge of my seat. The complexity of Cato and Siena's relationship keep on developing into something deep more than they care to admit. Who's the dictator now? Is it still Cato or the strong, independent Siena? Can't wait to read the final story.

No puedo creerlo, sinceramente, el primer libro inspiraba a una gran segunda parte. Y al estilo penelope, ya sabia por donde iba a ir. Ya que siempre tiene el mismo estilo en todos los libros.

Penelope siempre escribe a mujeres fuertes.

Read this book in one day.
This ride was somewhat different than the first book.
The first half of the book was just so contradicted to the first book, she let him lock her up, and didn't really do anything all day. To me that was the boring part of the book. I would love to have read how she was plotting something and plotting the staff for her more. She only became friends with Giovanni, while there were more than 50 guards all around the place. Some more exciting stuff could've happened.

After the escape all became a little more exciting, but it was some depressing part. She didn't bother to make anything of her new life, which I found some contradiction to how she described herself in the first book.

Then the ending, I admit it was expected, and it just wasn't my cup of tea. Sure something exciting should have happened, but I expected more of a plot turn of events. Now all went according to plan and I think we can all admit he's just another spoiled asshole who always gets his way. I know this is a "dark romance" but this isnt a romance at all. If you love someone, you would't even put her through so much without telling her. It's not a dark romance, it's a psychopath thing to do. Even if you apologize afterward.

TLDR; he's a psychopath, no plot twist.

This picks up right where Banker left off, the only thing that saved Siena life was the positive pregnancy test that came back. Now Siena is a prisoner in Cato's mansion. The threat is still there, will he shoot me once I deliver this baby as he promise he will. However Cato desire for this woman is undeniable and Siena what started as being manipulative plot to save her father turns into passion like they have never experience with no other. Cato & Siena are amazing together their chemistry, sex like no other, talks and companionship even as Cato tries to deny because he feels betrayed. What do you have when Siena stubbornness, Cato anger and Bates hate for Siena a book you can't stop reading.

Einfach langweilig.

Man, I love this story so much!! 😍 I couldn't put it down, I'm completely sleepless today.😴

After discovering that Siena is pregnant, Cato wants to be sure the baby is his. After having the confirmation, he informes her that nothing has changed. She will live under his roof, bring the pregnancy to its term and than he will kill her.

But than it takes him only once to see her cry over her father and you see him does the next proof of love. I love him so much!

Siena and Cato's feelings develope each day more. The banter, the sexual tension, the hot sex...these two are fire.

Never read about a heroine as alpha as the hero. She's the perfect match to him and when he thinks he's got her, she will impress him with some bold action or words.

Cato is the perfect alpha, my favorite bad guy of all the mob romances I have read so far!

So i've read the two books and let me tell you the F lead was a lucky bitch because if she wasn't pregnant let's just say you wouldn't see me crying over her, i have a list of things i hate the top of it is lying and an other thing it's when someone do something wrong and he just want to act like it's a no big deal.
The F lead was send to lure the M lead so his opponent kills him, no at first you didn't know the guy and well her father was kept a hostage ( well he is dead if she was smart as she liked to think maybe she should have demanded a proof that he is ok but she did no such thing) anyway it goes the usual drama she sleep with him and the so falling in love with him and then he find out about her and wait for her to see what she do.
Juuust like before 3mins of her taking him to his death she stop the car and finally after a whole book she stop the thinking and start to do something but dear it's too late.
Forgive me if i'm not so forgiven she was about to get him killed, she could have told him the truth and working with him to take down the ass and saving her father, she hated the other guy she could have though about a solution but she just didn't even think for 1min about it.
Ofcourse book 1 end on her finding she was pregnant after the M lead's bro giving her a black eye.
Ok what our F lead did in the sec book i tell you she told the M to forgive her for maybe one page then she get on his lap demend to be forgiven and just wants to sleep with him, she wanted him to just erase what she did and acted like come on dude cut the shit 😯😯😑
When some one do something like helping someone to kill an other one well humor me but i think you should ask for forgiveness more then once not just expecting to be done with it ofter one time after all he was this close to the other side! Yep that what dear F lead did.
Look when i find a jerk M lead i want to sweep the floor using him i want to punch him, but just because it's the F lead i'm talking about doesn't mean i'll go easy on her.
I didn't like her attitude show a real regret and ask for a real forgiveness just to clear your self and then be done with it you do not climb his lap and try to brush the wrong with sex!!
So yes i could not get it with her i understood the M lead after all he was about to die if he didn't found out before ( no thanks to her) and even then he didn't hit her, abuse her and she was the one who wanted to sleep with him all the times.
Her getting pregnant she should have though about it before sure the M lead at the 1 book didn't use protection but she came at him knowing she was going to lure him so think before you smart woman after all you are the one who gonna have a " Situation " If something happen wich it did and it turned for the better for her because if she didn't have the child she would have been dead so say a thank you to him along side with sorry.
Anyway when i disconect with a character i can't bring my self to care for it.
After this book i say my goodbyes for this serious and the auther since i've read some of her other books it came clear for me that we don't get along

Almost stopped reading… but glad I didn’t

WARNING… if you haven’t read book 1, The Banker, this review contains spoilers from that book. So I suggest you read it before you continue my review.

Just to make it clear… I only nearly stopped reading because I’ve become so invested in these characters that when I could see trouble coming on the horizon, I didn’t know if I could take more heartache. I’m glad I didn’t stop though, because I am loving these books.

So after finishing The Banker we’ve established that Cato is a psychopath with a heart. He’s scarily threatening particularly when he feels betrayed… and as far as he’s concerned Siena Russo has betrayed him more than any other. In an instant, she went from being his only lover to his biggest enemy. If she were a man she would be dead by now… executed at Cato’s on hand… but he spared her life because killing her would also kill their unborn child. Not even Cato’s cold heart could kill his own flesh and blood.

Whilst the baby had kept Siena from certain death, she is far from free. She knows deep down that Cato has feelings for her, but her actions severed any prospect of them being together and raising their child together. He may have let her live… but only on the understanding that once she delivers the baby, her fate will end the same… with death.

There’s only one way the Siena can survive and that is to try and appeal to Cato’s heart… but he’s a stubborn man. It’s going to take a miracle to move the mountain of mistrust that she has built between them.

There’s also the issue of Bates… Cato’s even more stubborn, heartless and psychopathic brother. Their relationship is reminiscent of The Kray Twins. Bates detests Siena… not only because she betrayed his brother but because he feels like she is only after their money to take them down from the inside. He’s sceptical and paranoid, believing Siena’s motives are far from genuine.

But all Siena wants is to live long enough to see her baby. And she will do whatever it takes to guarantee her babies safety, even if she has to take a chance and run.

Fascinatingly, the prospect of becoming a father changes Cato. At first, he’s still more than annoyed at what Siena did… but gradually he comes to understand why she did it and whilst he’ll never truly forgive her, his hatred begins to lessen, along with the distance he has been keeping from her. Even when she runs away from him, he can’t find it within himself to be angry with her because he has come to understand that all she wants is for his child to be safe.

As their relationship starts to rebuild, so does Siena’s chances of staying alive. She knows he has feelings for her and that their child will be loved and cared for by their father, if only he could admit how he feels to himself.

With only one more book in this series to go, I sense that there’s trouble just around the corner.

It went from oh wow good book, to Siena knows all.

I know you care about me
I know you will not kill me
I know you love me

Jeez, I mean she dragged him around with his balls. When you write a man to such a position, you won't let him to be tramped on. He would be dead already. All this awesome ruthless man just vanished after half of this book.

It was so controversial - she wanted to live a poor yada yada life. Ran away and then oh my god I miss him and oh I miss luxuries but I don't want Cato to be who he is.

Bates (Catos brother) was spot on that she's a bitch.

I just can't!

Part one was actually good so I decided to just jump into this one for part two and boy is this trash! The heroine is so damn wishy washy and freaking confusing. One minute is so independent and can stand on her own, money doesn’t mean everything and when she finally escapes she turned into this weak being that all of sudden can’t live without luxury. Not to mention missing the man that threatens to kill her. I was expecting so much more excitement that would bring them together after that betrayal but this was not it. Waste of time.

umm I hated the premise of this book so much oml. Like hes gonna kill her once she has the kid like okay king okay. uhh so bates was literally so weird and annoying I hated him.
Regardless of my brother’s argument, I would never take my unborn baby’s life. “This way, we have a legacy. We have someone to pass the business down to. It’s not the worst thing in the world.”
“What if it’s a girl?” he countered. “She wouldn’t be able to hold her own.”
“If she’s my daughter, yes she will,” I said proudly. “I won’t raise a princess. I’ll raise a queen.”

I loved this quote so much it was perfect ahh. like 0kay #feministking Cato like debating with himself about like not being able to acknowledge his feelings and shit was so funny oml
"I hated that woman.
I’d thought I was the devil. No. It was her.
She could cast a spell on me like a witch. One moment, I hated her, and then the next, I was under her trance. I listened to her cry with pity in my heart. Instead of walking away and leaving her in solitude, I stayed so she wouldn’t feel alone. Then I consoled her…and lingered. Every time she asked why I stayed, I didn’t have an answer."
like pls im sorry bro
umm there were cute moments ig
"…I just can’t stop feeling this way. I see past your flaws and see your qualities like bright beacons. I excuse all your mistakes because I love your successes. I don’t seem to care about the bad because all I see is the good. I’ll never forget all the things you’ve done for me, things you weren’t required to do. And even though you’re a monster, I just don’t see you that way…no matter how hard I try.” She kept her gaze down and wouldn’t look me in the eye. “When I saw you come home with those two women…I felt terrible. I was jealous, heartbroken, livid. And I just had to do something, anything to make it stop. Watching you kiss her…made me sick to my stomach. Then I did something I never thought I would do. I agreed to a threesome just to fight for you. For any other guy in the world, that never would have happened. But with you, I didn’t think twice. My feelings for you don’t make any sense. Maybe it was because I knew you didn’t really want them anyway…or maybe not.” She stared at the edge of the couch with a blank look on her face. She didn’t seem to be thinking about anything anymore, just sitting there in silence"
like aww??? but umm the threesome part was so grosss (basically to make her jealous he brought two women home to have threesome she then joined said threesome and then made it a twosome and it was supposed to be hot or cute which like no????)

“What does it matter that she was a woman?” he asked. “Women are criminals and murderers too.”
“She cried as she begged for her life.”
“Trust me, men do that too.”
#FEMINISM

okay like here was some of my issues:
his repeated threats of rape which were okay because ??? idek like it was so ew
"I could do whatever I wanted with her. I could force her even if she said no. I could chain her up and turn it into a punishment. The idea was arousing."
"I would hold her down and drill her in the ass even if she told me not to. She’d been warned, so I didn’t feel bad for doing it. She shouldn’t test me. Maybe I wouldn’t punch her in the face, but that didn’t mean I wouldn’t force anal."
"I would hold her down and drill her in the ass even if she told me not to. She’d been warned, so I didn’t feel bad for doing it. She shouldn’t test me. Maybe I wouldn’t punch her in the face, but that didn’t mean I wouldn’t force anal."
Like the book could've been so good but then we had this.

she was literally a deserpate bitch this entire book, he borderline rapes her "ik he loves me" he repeatedly says he will kill her "oh but ik he won't" like girl pls gain standards like she was a badass book 1 wtf happened

Bates:
his whole character was awful literally awful
"he knife out of his hand. “You did that to her?”
He must have seen the blood dripping down my neck. He’d examined the situation so quickly it was almost impossible to believe he could be that fast.
Bates squeezed his forefinger and thumb together. “It’s just a little tiny slice—”
Cato snatched his arm and sliced him down the forearm, cutting through his expensive suit and making him bleed.
“Shit!” He yanked his arm back and gripped the wound. “Come on, that was my favorite suit.” He made a joke like this was funny, but he gritted his teeth with pain.
“Touch her again, and I’ll kill you. Do you understand me?”
“Until she has your baby. Got it.”
“Not even then.” Cato didn’t raise his voice, but it seemed like he was yelling. “I mean it, Bates. I understand you don’t like her or respect her, but if you like or respect me, then you’ll listen to me. That woman is carrying my child, and I will do everything necessary to protect her. So fuck with me, and I’ll put you in the ground. Alright?”
Blood dripped from Bates’s arm and onto the ground. It got all over his hand as he kept pressure on the wound. “Yeah, whatever.” He moved to get around Cato.
Cato got in his way. “That’s not good enough. Do you understand me?”
Bates rolled his eyes. “Yes…I understand you. Now if you’ll excuse me, I gotta take care of this.”
This time, Cato let him pass.
Bates walked out.
Cato watched his brother go before he walked over to me. “Fuck, this looks bad. You’ve got blood all over your neck.”
“It’s not as bad as it looks,” I said honestly. “It feels like a paper cut.”
“I should take you to the doctor.” He grabbed a towel and wiped away the red blood that had smeared all over my neck. When he’d cleaned most of it away, he held the towel over the small incision.
“Really, I’m fine. It doesn’t even hurt.” I didn’t just say that to be brave. It was a small injury, nothing I wouldn’t recover from. It wouldn’t even leave a scar. “And I’m sure the baby is fine. The whole thing lasted less than five minutes.”
Cato pulled the towel away to see if it was still bleeding. “Looks like it’s stopped.”
“See?” I said in relief.
Giovanni grabbed a bandage from the first aid kit and handed it to Cato. “Sir, I have to tell you that Miss Siena was provoked. The two of us were just talking when Mr. Marino came inside and turned hostile.”
Cato placed the bandage across my neck. “Don’t worry, Giovanni. I know my brother better than you do.”
Like he couldn't over shit oml like dear god go to therapy.
Also he threatened to rape her multiple times and it was 'awful' when he did it yet Cato could do it and it was fine. So yeah

Probelmatic quotes:
I’d just been assaulted, but his mind always went to sex.
that's ur man bestie
“He doesn’t go around raping and beating women.”
“I figured. When you’re handsome and rich, you don’t really need to rape anyone…”
leave ur home and end ur life tbh
“No, not fine,” I hissed. “You threatened to rape her.”
“Did I do it?” He threw his arms in the air. “No. It was just a threat.”
“Whatever, Bates. It’s still wrong, either way. Don’t treat my woman like that, or I’ll fucking—”
kay why es pls
“I’m a murderer, not a rapist.”
“Speak for yourself.”
bates can literally die

The second instalment of the series, Dictator start where The Banker ended. With Siena being prisoner with her pregnancy as live savior. And Cato being bitter and angry for her betrayel. And for his brother waiting the day he finally put bullet in her head.
Nine months... That's all time Siena have. Unless she can persuade Cato to keep her instead.

For me, Dictator is a lot more slow burn than Banker. It got more personal conflict. More of Cato and Siena finding their own feelings toward each other. Time for them to fall in love or just fall in lust.

Although still a page Turner, I finish reading in one sitting, Dictator feels more melancholy. Yes, there's still darkness in Cato's world, but just a pinch.
Here I see different Cato. A lover, an Alpha still, a dominant but more vulnerable with his feeling for her.
While Siena, I feel she's stronger of her love for him. Like this girl. She is smart and have that take no non sense attitude. Even when her live is in jeopardy.

Can't wait to read the next instalment. Would love to see his riled to the bones and finally letting her in

I read the first book some time ago and was so intrigued to read this. But this didn’t have too much going on and I expecting something major for the ending…

The plot was basically him saying “I’ll kill you in 9 months” and her saying “no you won’t because you love me” for 300 page.

I get so uncomfortable when reading dark romance with abusive behavior between the main characters (maybe it’s just not for me). I loose so much of the chemistry.

YES to Siena for kicking his ass (verbally and those smacks), why is he such an asshole. Homeboy’s mood swings are insane, you would think he is pregnant…

I loved the first book. Siena’s character was so feisty and interesting. Cato was a perfect anti hero. This was like totally different characters especially Siena. I find this happens a lot when the author decides on 3 books. Few authors can do it but it rarely works. The plot was non existent and Cato was horrible.
Such a shame I had high hopes.
