A peaceful narrowboat holiday. What could possibly go wrong?

Stella doesn't want to hire a narrowboat. She'd much rather be in The Maldives, but her husband Alex has other ideas. Nancy escapes onto the canals when her brilliant music career implodes. She's going back to her roots, but things have changed - maybe too much.

Dawn is investigating the most unusual crime in her policing career - committed on the Grand Union Canal under the English summer sun. Trouble, is the victim denies it was even a crime.

Join Stella, Nancy and Dawn on their epic journeys into the heart of England's canal network. In this tale of deceit, revenge, self-discovery and boating mishaps, they find friends in the most unlikely places and discover that the canals are not always as tranquil as they appear...

Felicity Radcliffe is the author of the Grand Union series. She divides her time between a small English village, where she lives with her husband and dog, and a narrowboat on England's beautiful canal network, which forms the backdrop to her novels.

Here's what Felicity has to say about the Grand Union series:

"It comprises three novels: Union Clues, Broken Lock and Grand Stand. Whilst boating features prominently, I did not want to write traditional canal-based novels, where the protagonists travel from A to B and have a bunch of adventures along the way. I have tried to do something genuinely different and, judging by the reviews, many readers really appreciate that.

At the heart of the series lies a very unusual crime, which sets off a train of events that gains momentum with each book. I can't say anything more without giving away the plot, but I'm confident you won't have encountered a crime like this in any other novel. However, the books themselves are not crime novels per se. They are about friendship, guilt, revenge, courage, deceit, despair, love, loyalty and - above all - self-discovery.

Over to you - I hope you enjoy the Grand Union series and I look forward to receiving your feedback."

Loved this book. Interesting characters who really come alive. Fascinating - if chilling - exploration of the relationship between married couple Stella and Alex. I now know way more than I ever expected about canal boating. Couldn’t put this down and now eagerly awaiting number 2 to see where the cliffhanger goes.
