A sweet story filled with mouth watering descriptions of baked goods! The romance was a little on the rushed side, but I still found myself invested. While it's pitched as a rivals to lovers, the rivalry between the two is mostly one sided and only lasts for a short portion of the book.

Very few concessions made to the Western readership in terms of vocab, which works far better and is far less othering than the all too frequent clunky insertion of explanations for foreigners. Let's assume readers can extrapolate or Google if they want to. Very good to see from Carina. Not impressed by the publisher's editing, though, a phrase for which I need a keyboard shortcut.
It's a very warm, likeable story, highly readable, and made me feel better on a rather battering day.

Thank you Carla de Guzman for writing one of the best romances I've read! I took my time reading this as you might see because I was on a slump, I was reading and finishing another book, but truthfully every time I picked this up and read a few chapters, I was captivated, laughing my a** off and enjoying it SO VERY MUCH.
Sweet on You is a rivals to lovers romances set on Christmas in the Philippines. We have one baker, Gab, and a coffee shop owner/barista, Sari. When Sari sees the empty space next door has a new owner, she doesn't like it one bit. And then she mets Gab, baker extraordinarie, and their rivalry is set in stone since then. There is a hilarious prank war that everyone around them thinks is only an excuse for courtship. Because they are totally flirting while they do the pranks and trying their hardest to not eat or drink anything they make.
Soon enough, these two can't stop thinking about each other. It is wonderful!!! They let down their walls and make a small space in their lives for each other until it becomes so much bigger and their hearts can't help but want more. It's an insta love romance so if you do not like those, don't pick it up because everything happens in a month and I don't want to see everyone saying "they took three days to fall in love" like IT HAPPENS PEOPLE!!! Don't go into this expecting a three year courtship, thanks.
There is so much food and baked goods in this novel, you'll get hungry for sure. I wanted every single thing Gab baked and I wanted to drink Sari's delicious coffees. Everything sounded wonderful and I wished their businesses were real and close to me.
I hope Carina Press hires Carla for more books because there are a lot of characters I want to see getting their happy endings. HELLO!!! We need a full series of this and hopefully we get it. I also fully want Netflix to adapt this book into a romcom holiday movie because it's what they do and this is the perfect material. We love rival neighbor baker/barista falling in love while all the business owners around them gossip about them and try to make them be a couple.

Definitely worth a read even if I didn’t love this as much as the author’s other work. I like a good prank war, but I prefer it outside a work environment (so that storyline didn’t totally work for me here). I loved the sisterly dynamics and both MC’s feelings of desolation/pressure to live up to family expectations. I hope we get a book for Kira/Santi!

This was a delightfully sweet romance. “Capricorns are known for two things - accepting undue responsibility and being lone wolves.” I truly enjoyed learning so much about the Philippines and the culture, and I apparently must find a Filipino restaurant ASAP! The book could have benefited from some editing. There were repetitive paragraphs, and sometimes the plot was lost during the characters’ thoughts. Worth reading! 3.5 stars

I tend to gravitate towards bakery romances because I love that as a setting, and this one sounded particularly cute. Sadly, it didn't end up working for me though. The main reason for that is that I didn't like either of the main characters, and liking them is pretty important in a romance. Because of that, I didn't feel invested in the romance. I also had mixed feelings about the writing style. I loved the use of Filippino words and phrases without explaining them. But the writing style as a whole didn't work for me.

• I LOVED IT, every part of it. Thank you Ms. Carla de Guzman for providing a review copy of Sweet On You. It was such a great read. The story is set on Christmas in Lipa, Batangas… which made me miss my hometown even more. There’s a lot of food and coffee mentioned… I ended up baking a banana cake and brewed some kapeng barako to match the sweetness of this book.
• As someone who grew up in Batangas with my grandparents and their freshly brewed kapeng barako from an old kettle every morning, I actually agree to some things mentioned here. Specially, old traditions that is hard to break…
• As a certified barista and a previous café trainer (now a coffee business owner), I admit I’ve been way too “judgy” when it comes people who drink or settle with 3-in-1 coffees. Yea, they’re fast and easy to make but nothing actually beats brewed coffee.
• This book touched a lot of topics but mainly focuses on family relationships, dreams, and local businesses. Also, the cruelty of communism and business here in the Philippines
• I can’t say that it was a “fluff” read but for me it was something light, something that I needed right now.
• Gab and Sari are both adorbs. Specially, Sari. Since, I relate to her so much. I’ve concluded that I am Sari. My love and passion for coffee, my love and hate relationship with family, my thighs, my thing with Brazo de Mercedes, and my dream on having my own coffee shop. I also loved Gab’s love and passion for baking and baked goods.
• It really had sugar, spice, and everything nice.
This was overall as I’ve said a great read. Kumbaga sa Filipino, walang tapon.

The Kind Of Holiday Book I Need
Knowing Carla de Guzman from #romanceclass and knowing the Carina Press promise, I had high hopes that Sweet On You will give me a satisfying time. I'm so thankful that I was right!
First of all, I'm so happy to see another POC author getting picked up by Carina Press, especially a Filipino one telling an unapologetically Filipino love story! Congratulations, Carla! I hope you can write more books with Carina Press!
This story began when local barista Sari meets the new baker next door, Gab. Her weakness in making pastries to match her delicious coffee is threatened by the handsome man next door. So, as mature adults, these business neighbors pulled pranks against each other. And, as much as they want to say they hate the other one, people around them see these pranks as a weird courtship process.
Aside from this, the book touched on the aspects of family, sibling relationships, following your dreams, and supporting small businesses and local brands.
Of course, a shining aspect of this book is all the Filipino culture representation. My mouth literally watered as each food item was discussed. In fact, I did find myself ordering Brazo de Mercedes as its the fave dessert of our dear Gab.
Perhaps the only thing that made me a little 'Hmmm...' on the book's journey is the fact that there's so many Filipino words and many of them were not translated nor made easily understandable for foreign audiences. For me, it's not a problem, of course. But, I just feel a little concerned how it will received by other readers.
Finally, let's talk romance. Sweet On You was able to hit everything that I want on a romance read. The couple is just so adorable and I love the way their story began. They each have their own flaws and I love how they complement and accept one another. One thing that took me by surprise were those steamy scenes! It was really steamy, so, they were able to give me the perfect romance my heart is yearning for.
Overall, Sweet On You is an awesome read, perfect for the holidays, and I definitely recommend it to all romance lovers!

Sweet On You is one of the perfect books to read to get you in the ~Christmas Spirit~, especially if you're from the Philippines! The food descriptions left me starving and the romance and steamy parts left me ~THIRSTY~ for more.
The audiobook was good too! Setting aside the mispronunciation of some Tagalog words, it's great! I got to listen to the audiobook via Scribd.

As a fan of all things baked goods and romance, how could I possibly have resisted the charm that is the idea of a bakery rivals-to-lovers romance in Sweet on You? I mean there's pranking involved. I stood no chance! Sweet on You was my first book from Carla de Guzman, but I was so charmed that I immediately went to add her previous titles to my wishlist. There's a lot to like about Sweet on You, but I particularly enjoyed the romance between a somewhat cranky heroine, Sari, and a sunshine hero, Gabriel. They worked well together even they were pranking each other's butts off. I loved the fluffy feels this book gave me, making it the perfect romance novel to read when you just want something positive and happy. Sweet on You also excels at exploring all the family relationships. Sari and her sisters have a lovely bond and their love for each other shines through. Gabriel's relationship with his family is a little more complicated as there are lies involved, but the nuances were tackled very well. Then, there's the setting. This isn't my first book set in the Philippines, but it still felt like such a fresh look into the part of the country. I love how the community was a living and breathing part of Sweet on You. I did feel like the book lost a bit of steam towards the end, but I wouldn't say it took away from my enjoyment. All in all, Sweet on You was fun, fluffy, and romantic - what more can I ask of a Christmas romance? I look forward to reading more from Carla de Guzman!

I liked the prank war element of this a lot, and thought the different ways feelings of rejection were manifesting in the hero and heroine were interesting, but I think I needed more relationship development? But as the title says, it was very sweet!!

Oh, I loved this! I loved this so much, with my whole heart and soul. I’m a big softy for books that involve coffee shops, cafes, and bakeries. There’s something that reminds me of home when these elements are thrown in. Throw in the sibling bonds and the importance of family, *chef’s kiss* perfection! Truly, this is sure to make it onto so many reading lists as we approach closer to the holidays. It truly is an adorable read!
Set in the Philippines, Sweet On You follows two shop owners forming a rivalry between each other. When the empty store next to Sari’s cafe sells, Sari doesn’t like the thought of competition or change one bit. Then she meets the owner, Gab, the baker extraordinaire, and in that moment their rivalry is set in stone. Soon, the prank wars begin! But while these two are lost in the tide of pranks, everyone around them begins to question on whether or not this is actually a courtship. And that might be true! Even though they’re knees deep in pranks, they just can’t help themselves from flirting with one another.
🧁 Sari Tomas – The cafe owner of Tomas Coffee Co., who doesn’t like change and tries to avoid it at all cost. But over the next ten days leading up to Christmas, big changes throw her into a whirlwind. It started with Sunday Bakery opening next door, then her younger sister, Sam announced she’s moving out. With all these changes, Sari can’t help feeling everything is moving on with life, everyone except her.
🧁 Gabriel Capras – The owner of Sunday Bakery, who’s been trying to prove to his father that he can be professional and financially successful baker. With big dreams and goals keeping him motivated, Sunday Bakery is his first step to making those dreams come true. There’s just one problem, he never expected someone like Sari Tomas to wiggle their way into his heart.
Amidst all the pranks, these two rivals will start to find it impossible to spend their days without thinking of one another. Every thought with flash to some moment of the time these two have spent together, spicing up each others days. Even the hard days will be a little less hard. After all, baked goods and coffee speaks volumes to the soul!
I really loved our two main characters! Their personalities were absolutely fantastic and you could instantly tell the chemistry these two characters had. Both of these characters are like wizards in their own kitchens and the scenes we get of them making coffee or food were fantastic. Also, I really enjoyed the way these two characters talked about their siblings, how much love radiates from them throughout this book, and I loved seeing our main characters reconnecting with their siblings and family. It really warms my heart and I couldn’t help feeling soft, and a bit sappy about it.
And the way these characters fall in love with one another is hilarious yet so wholesome. They try so hard not to fall for each other and seeing them come together was so sweet. There’s something about a slow fall and then fast that really lures me in. The way the author wrote it, gave me everything I wanted from their romance. They had some hilarious moments, but they had some really endearing moments. The really steamy moments were perfect and there were some moments in those steamy scenes that got me a little choke up. I will say, if you’re not a fan of sexy times in books then this might not be the book for you. There are at least two major sexy moments in this book and if that impacts your reading, just know that those are in this book.
Of course, there’s the food featured in this book. A book has never made me look up so many foods that quickly. If someone were to open my browser right now, they’d just find countless pages of all the Filipino food. The way food is talked about in this book is so heavenly, so deliciously, that I recommend you read this on a full stomach. Otherwise, you’re going to be sitting there wanting to take a bit out of your book. I also loved the way Gab named some of his baked goods after his siblings. I thought that was the sweetest thing and I’m not going to lie, a little swoon worthy.
Overall, I had such a great time reading this snuggly, cozy, holiday romance! I loved so much about this book and I think many readers are going to enjoy curling up with this book. I think this book will really make the reader want to travel and I know this makes me eager to pick more books up by this author. I really loved the culture throughout this book and I’m excited to see what her other books have in store especially if its romance! I definitely recommend picking this book up during this holiday season especially if you’re looking for a book to brighten you day up!

I really loved our two main characters! Their personalities were absolutely fantastic and you could instantly tell the chemistry these two characters had. Both of these characters are like wizards in their own kitchens and the scenes we get of them making coffee or food were fantastic. Also, I really enjoyed the way these two characters talked about their siblings, how much love radiates from them throughout this book, and I loved seeing our main characters reconnecting with their siblings and family. It really warms my heart and I couldn’t help feeling soft, and a bit sappy about it.

And the way these characters fall in love with one another is hilarious yet so wholesome. They try so hard not to fall for each other and seeing them come together was so sweet. There’s something about a slow fall and then fast that really lures me in. The way the author wrote it, gave me everything I wanted from their romance. They had some hilarious moments, but they had some really endearing moments. The really steamy moments were perfect and there were some moments in those steamy scenes that got me a little choke up. I will say, if you’re not a fan of sexy times in books then this might not be the book for you. There are at least two major sexy moments in this book and if that impacts your reading, just know that those are in this book.
Of course, there’s the food featured in this book. A book has never made me look up so many foods that quickly. If someone were to open my browser right now, they’d just find countless pages of all the Filipino food. The way food is talked about in this book is so heavenly, so deliciously, that I recommend you read this on a full stomach. Otherwise, you’re going to be sitting there wanting to take a bit out of your book. I also loved the way Gab named some of his baked goods after his siblings. I thought that was the sweetest thing and I’m not going to lie, a little swoon worthy.
Overall, I had such a great time reading this snuggly, cozy, holiday romance! I loved so much about this book and I think many readers are going to enjoy curling up with this book. I think this book will really make the reader want to travel and I know this makes me eager to pick more books up by this author. I really loved the culture throughout this book and I’m excited to see what her other books have in store especially if its romance! I definitely recommend picking this book up during this holiday season especially if you’re looking for a book to brighten you day up!

Gabriel Campos is trying to prove to his father that he can be a professional and financial success as a baker. He has big dreams and the bakery in the Laneways is just a baby step. When the pretty coffee roaster next door bans his pastries from her shop he starts offering a free cup of instant coffee with purchase. Sari and Gab distract themselves from their bigger problems with a prank war. Everyone else sees it for what it is – courtship.
I loved reading Sweet on You. I spent a lot of time looking up Filipino food. I know now that when I can travel again I’m going to want to be in the Philippines just before Christmas (or at least to the Filipino restaurant on the other side of town). There was a lot I wasn’t familiar with, and I was happy to either figure it out from context or look it up (bastos means rude). I do worry that some readers will be impatient with the Filipino centric romance, but I remind them of two things: 1) the vast majority of romances have been Western centered and non western readers have had to deal with it.

“Just trying to picture this scene I’m reading. The viscount is playing some sort of competitive sport on a huge field, and I don’t know enough about white people sports to understand it,”
And 2) those readers will be missing out on a soft, snuggly, lovely romance. Once Gab and Sari really start talking to each other, they discover they have a lot in common and that their differences are complimentary. The consent is consistent from their very first “joke” kiss. They both love historical romances. One of the things that made me particularly happy was when Gab correctly used the KonMari method to get Sari into his life. I also loved that the conflict they have is less with each other and more about their own fears and expectations.

This book caught my eye because of the rival neighbors plot line. I’ve also read and enjoyed a lot of #romanceclass novels, so I was excited to read this on! Set in the Philippines, Sweet on You was a sweet holiday read.
Sari runs a coffee shop and helps run a coffee company with her two sisters. When Gabriel and his bakery move in next door, they instantly form a lighthearted rivalry that evolves into a prank war. However, pranks soon give way to genuine flirting.
I really liked the characters! Sari and Gabriel have their own worries and plot lines outside of their pending romance. They both have such great character arcs. I particularly liked how they both have somewhat complex yet close family relationships, particularly with their siblings. There were a couple of other side characters who egg Sari and Gabriel on, which added a lot of humor.
The romance was also so cute. I liked following Sari and Gabriel’s prank war and seeing how compatible they are. Their dynamic was really great!
This book is ownvoices for Filipino rep, and it’s set in the Philippines during Christmastime. I enjoyed reading about the different traditions that take place around this time. It added a warmth to the story on top of the already sweet romance.
Sweet on You was an adorable read with an amazing cast of characters. The romance was sweet, and you’ll be left with your mouth watering after reading the descriptions of all the coffee and baked goods. If you enjoy holiday and/or rivals-to-lovers romances, you should definitely check out Sweet on You!

Sweet on You is really adorable and full of descriptions of delicious-sounding baked goods and fancy coffees, and I'm not at all mad at it.
My favorite thing about this book, aside from the general happiness of it, is the setting. It takes place in the city of Lipa in the Philippines. There's very little romance written in English that takes place in a country that's not in North America or Europe, and most of the ones that do feature white people traveling to that country. It's so refreshing to read a book about locals living their lives. Not that I dislike the travel romances, because I don't, but I would love to see more books like this one.
Sari and Gabriel start out as rivals, though I wouldn't bill this as hate to love, because it's far too over-the-top silly to really sell the hate aspect. It's not really believable the way they launch into an absurd prank battle, started because Sari's so mad to have a competing business next door. They absolutely act like children and some of the pranks are ridiculous. That said, I really didn't mind. It was tropey and ridiculous and did feel like something I could see in a rom-com. I thought it worked in this context.
I like the dynamics of Sari and Gabriel a lot. She's bitter and tense and controlling, and he's a cinnamon roll who could probably bake a mean cinnamon roll. There's a lot of stuff about toxic masculinity and the way its affected Gabriel, who defies a lot of the things the traditional male gender role expects of him. More heroes like this! The chemistry wasn't entirely believable for me, so it wasn't really a strong ship, but I do like them. I like how into her Gabriel is immediately, even when she's grumpy but also how he's not mature about dealing with his feelings in any respect.
The last quarter of the book is a beat weak imo.
If you're looking for an indulgent read as fluffy as meringue, this might be a perfect match. It's a great readalike for Jackie Lau's Baldwin Village series, both in foodieness and fluffness.

This is a sweet rivals-to-lovers holiday romance that not only made my heart swoon, but also made my mouth water! This story follows Sari, the owner of a Cafe and is known for her delicious coffee and a new-to-town Baker who moves into the building next door. Gabriel is sweet and warm and instantly is taken to Sari when he first lays his eyes on her. Even though Gabriel is inviting and has the type of face that is hard to ever be mad at, he finds that Sari is quite his opposite: she is strong and tough and has a wall up that he's determined to break down with his own charm and baking. Eventually the two of them end up in competition mode and they embark on a series of pranks that eventually land them in one another's arms.
It is definitely a slow burn romance but it reads rather quickly. Aside from the two main characters being extremely well written with very distinct personalities that are attracting to each other even with rather large differences, we also get a peak into their families. One of my favorite aspects of this book was the dynamic between Sari and her two sisters, and Gab and his family of 8 siblings and his two parents. Christmastime always makes me think of family, and it was lovely to see family be such a large part of their life in the book. They had so many interactions that made me, as the reader, feel connected to the story from multiple perspectives.
The culture in this book was EVERYTHING! This is a Filipino Christmas romance and there were so many things to love about this part alone. I believe some of the language used in the story was written in Tagalog (I looked this up so if I'm mistaken I apologize) but I found myself having to look up what certain words meant and what they were describing. Why did I love that so much? Because for one, the banter was hilarious! I loved it and I wanted to know everything everyone was saying. Secondly, the food that was presented in this book deserved to be seen! Throughout the entire story I would look up what the food looked like (even though it was described to us) I just had to see it and WOW did I stay hungry throughout this entire story!
Overall, this book is definitely a holiday favorite. I honestly was so thrilled to read it and it did not disappoint at all. For those who may be wondering, the conflict in this book is very small and so if that is something you dislike in stories fear not, this book won't let you down. It also has a small steam factor, so although there a few sexy moments, the book is mostly sweet and heart-warming!

Full disclosure, I've beta-read this September last year, but I've already forgotten most of it (it was a lifetime ago, LBH) so experiencing it again felt like the first time, more or less. And whole chunks of that version have been now edited so in a way, this really was the first time.
I love how Filipino it is. Like how deeply, unapologetically Paskong Pinoy it is! From the parols, to the videoke party, to the whole going-to-Simbang-Gabi-for-all-the-things-other-than-the-simba-itself! LOL. The initial prank war was fun and hilarious, the steam was on point, and ooh mama, the romantic parts were super nakakakilig! 😍
One thing I didn't notice last time but was so palpable to me this time was Gabriel's loneliness. I connected to Sari more bec, hello, I am most terrified of change as well, but huhu, Gabriel's isolation pulled its own weight in my heart. And it's worse bec it's self-imposed! I guess that's why his and Sari's quick-fire connection made so much sense to me despite the initial animosity between the two of them.
Anyway, I don't want to be a Grinch and spoil it, so I'll stop here, but I highly recommend this for those looking for a flavorful Holiday Romance. The food references are plenty so have at least a cookie with you when you're reading this. That's a pro-tip from me who had a box (or two) of baked goods from @munchquinn.bg when I started. 😘

Conflicted on what to rate this book
I'm hovering between 2 and 3 stars for this book.
I love that this is an #ownvoices and I don't have a lot of exposure to SE Asian romances written in English. This is my first one based on the Philippines and I got to learn about Filipino cuisine and some new phrases.
However... the writing annoyed me at times and I had to stop reading several times due to how often plot points were reiterated in both dialogue and the character's thoughts. Gabriel and his motivations behind hiding from most of his family. His wandering background. Sari and her intense fear of abandonment and hair trigger reaction to the slightest change.
Ah. Sari. I found her a very difficult protagonist to sympathize with because of her reactions. I couldn't quite understand WHY she was so hostile to Gabriel and his shop. The author tries to explain it - the exposition is so heavy the first few chapters, I had to switch books to take a break - but I found Sari immature and controlling right off the bat.
I actually found some of the pranks childish for adults. It's one thing if teenagers do it, but another when adults interfere with each other's business AND LIVELIHOOD. Erasing specials? Making up false promotions for the other business? I would be livid in their shoes.
One thing I found confusing was that Sari is "Team No Boyfriend Since Birth" at 29 years old but besides a few physical insecurities her mother inculcated in her about her thighs, she seems remarkably unfazed at her first sexual encounter (I assume). Yes, she mentons her vibrator and knowing what she likes, but I would think ANYbody at ANY age of ANY gender would have some emotional reaction to their first time with a partner.
Gabriel is...eh? Meh? I honestly don't know what's up his plan, and I'm a little disappointed we didn't see his Christmas and the tension in more detail.
But. It really brings the culture and food alive! I'm disapppinted Laneways isn't real!

This is the sweetest and most adorable rom-com I've read for a long time, and I loved it SO MUCH. It's also my new favorite-ever Christmas rom-com!
If you love the gentleness of Julia Quinn romances (to which there are various fun throw-away allusions in here!) and/or the gorgeous sensory appeal of Laura Florand's chocolate-infused romances, I can absolutely PROMISE you will love this, too. The heroine is a master coffee-roaster, and OMG - as a coffee-lover, I was just overwhelmed with bliss through every vivid and incredible description of the different drinks she made. (Sadly for me, since it's set in the Philippines, I can't just buy a lot of the lusciously described pastries he makes - but once I'm feeling better again post-covid, I WILL be looking up recipes to try to make some of them at home!)
She owns a coffeeshop with incredible coffee but mediocre pastries (brought in from a not-great supplier); the hero sets up a bakery just next door with to-die-for pastries but mediocre coffee...okay, you can see from the beginning exactly how they're meant to be. :) However, ALL the fun is in watching them get there, through a genuinely joyful (and never mean-spirited) prank war, a karaoke competition, and real kindness (and lots of delicious coffees and pastries along the way).
I loved their complex families, their deeply important sibling relationships, and their local community, which felt so vibrant and lovely. I want to read more novels about SO MANY of the wonderful side characters!
And most of all, I just enjoyed every moment of this book and can't wait to re-read it next Christmas.
If you love the gentleness of Julia Quinn romances (to which there are various fun throw-away allusions in here!) and/or the gorgeous sensory appeal of Laura Florand's chocolate-infused romances, I can absolutely PROMISE you will love this, too. A "sweet" romance, Christmas cheer, and delicious food--what more could you possibly want on your Holiday Wish List?

I have no idea how/when this book got on my TBR, but after reading it I am so happy that it did. Sweet on You was such an adorable read. I am not a fan of the enemies to lovers troupe, and I also don't typically love books when the MC's are pranking each other, but this one just worked so well for me. (in my opinion this was definitely more of grump/sunshine book than an enemies to lovers). There is a bit of an istalove aspect to this book as well, but I am choosing to not let that bug me, because this book was so dang cute. I had never read anything by this author so I wasn't sure what to expect going into it. I honestly thought that this was a YA for some reason, but it is definitely not a YA book. The super cure cover fooled me, this book is pretty steamy. I love that this book was set in the Philippines, I love the food (baked goods and coffee)mentioned and the culture. I love the MC's together, they are both dealing with family things and trying to keep/start successful business. I love the pranks in this book, I literally laughed out loud reading about the pranks. I really liked both MC, but I would say that Gabriel was my favorite (I'm a sucker for a cinnamon roll hero). I loved both families in this book and I hope to see more books with them in the future.

You know those Hallmark Christmas movies where a hardworking coffee cafe owner is filled with loathing when a hot-devil-may-care baker opens a bakery right next door and proceeds to be hot and charming and offer her baked goods, and a prank war results? Yeah those? Add in some really good characterization, a fascinating and lovingly-written setting, and some sex scenes, and you get... this. It's awesome. I'll also note that de Guzman's If the Dress Fits made me hungry for Jollibee and I don't actually even like Jollibee, so as you can imagine the bakery scenes and writing here made me positively lust after the desserts described. So much fun, and will be a definite re-read come December.

Maybe even 4.5?! There were a few weak plot points, but overall I enjoyed this book so much. Although it made me so hungry for Filipino food 🙂
