Death, Divorce, and Dessert By: Kayla Michelle, K. M. Morgan Narrated by: Stephanie Quinn This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. This is a smart, quick, and excellent book with characters that seem real, great interactions, and a good murder mystery. Every time I listen to any of these books I start craving pie! This is a good addition to the series. The narration was flawless!
Death, Divorce, and Dessert earns 5/5 Sweet Pies...Enjoyable Mystery!
Kayla Michelle/K.M. Morgan is quite prolific at writing entertaining cozies. Clever, yet not complicated, drama with interesting misdirection and a satisfying wrap up. Her characters are realistic and varied and entertaining to follow. In this short audiobook (1:10) “Death, Divorce, and Dessert,” Chloe Cook is a young woman from a loving family with a grandmother who is a bit non-filtered with her opinions, and a boyfriend who doesn’t seem offended by the “when are you getting married?” remarks. Chloe is employed as a make-up saleswoman for Crissy’s Cap Cod Cosmetics and visits clients to sell her products, but instead of promoting the benefits of a new moisturizer, she finds her client, Emily Hightower, dead. Chloe is not a novice with investigating murder, and Detective Thicke is beginning to recognize her skill, and over pie, they seek “inspiration.” Fun. Clever story. Satisfying conclusion. Stephanie Quinn has a very pleasant voice for this third-person narrative with an entertaining effort performing age and gender through her tone. Entertaining narration. Well worth spending the time.
A quick cozy mystery. I enjoyed this story as Chloe Cook came upon the murdered body of a friend and worked with the police to solve the crime. The secondary characters were also interesting, and I loved the interactions amongst them. Stephanie Quinn did a wonderful job with the narration.
I received this audiobook as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
For a change, Chloe Cook actually has an appointment about selling makeup. It seems too good to be true, and it is. When she arrives her customer and friend is dead. Chloe will solve this case and make sure her friend's killer receives justice.
This is another fun, light Chloe Cook cozy. It gave me several hours of enjoyable reading curled up on my couch.
This is just bad. I listened to the Audible version & even the narrator was bad. Maybe it was abridged, b/c I see that other people liked this book. So definitely don't waste your time on the Audible Original version.
One evening, Chloe Cook is at her parents' home, celebrating their fortieth wedding anniversary. She, they, and her boyfriend all hope that the recent spate of murders in their little Cape Code town is finally at an end.
The next morning, in her capacity as a makeup salesperson, she has an appointment with her friend, Emily Hightower, to show her the latest additions to the makeup line she represents. When she arrives, she's very surprised to find Emily's door slightly ajar, and Emily not responding the her knock, the bell, or even to Chloe pulling out her phone and calling. So she steps through that open door--and finds Emily lying dead on her living room floor, apparently stabbed to death.
This is not the peaceful new trend she was hoping for.
Police Detective Thicke and the medical examiner are soon on the scene. Thicke, at least, even if not the higher powers of the universe, decides that a new trend is needed, and he decides to work with, rather than against, Chloe and her amateur investigating. And working together, they find they're a pretty good team, and moreover that it's good to have another person to rely on and bounce ideas off of.
This isn't a story with a lot of depth, but it's fun and enjoyable. Recommended for light entertainment.
I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, and I am reviewing it voluntarily.
This short cozy fills right in the cracks of my day! I loved to hear Chloe's mystery after she finds her friend Emily stabbed to death. Give us a town full of suspects, a cranky old detective and a no nonsense thinker like Chloe, and we are sure to find the murderer. It's quick, fun, gets right into the thick of things and best of all has pie! Narrated by Stephanie Quinn, it's a short whodunnit full of adventure and fun!
Death, Divorce, and Dessert, my twelfth read/listen from author K.M. Morgan & first with co-writer Kayla Michelle. A cute, well-written, clean, cozy mystery, obviously I like Morgan's well-written & enjoyable work. I look forward to reading more from her. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Narrator Stephanie Quinn’s talented narration added greatly to the book's enjoyment. Just the right length for listening to while in a waiting room! Amateur sleuth Chloe is not only the one to find the body of her friend, but the older detective in their small town decides to have her along on the suspect interviews because he knows that she'll be at cross purposes with him otherwise. And it's a darn good thing that he does! Stephanie Quinn is the perky narrator.
A great short Cozy Mystery narrated by Stephanie Quinn. Great believable and likable characters. I love how she interrogates the people in town. She lets them hang themselves with lies. She keeps you guessing on who did this. I love the way she talks about desserts. She'llhave you craving sweets especially pie.I love this book.
Death, Divorce, and Dessert was another great read by Kayla Michelle and K.M. Morgan. Chloe Cook is a makeup sales woman who doesn't expect her normal day at work turn out deadly. She showsup at a client's house for their appointment when she finds out her dear friend is murdered. She does what she can to find the killer. I can't wait to read more by the authors.
Chloe just wants to have a good day and sell some cosmetic products for a possible promotion, she goes to her friend/clients house, not realizing she would find her murdered. Chloe is determined to find her friends killer in this fast paced cozy.
Interesting characters, with the mention of desserts. Chloe maybe an amateur, but the detective brings her along to help with interviews. Stephanie had a good narration voice for this short, but good plot mystery.
Format: audiobook A short read/listen so as you’d expect there’s not much depth but that doesn’t stop it from being enjoyable, I liked Chloe’s character and the narration was good. All in all a good cozy mystery.
Action and some good questions made for an interesting investigation. Working together certainly got the case solved quickly. Enjoyed the speaker in this audible book short story.
