International Legacies #3

The Nordic Lightning

Rate this book
Hockey is my game.
She's my goal.

ERIK SØRENSON

Fast. Hot. Electrifying.
With a grin that could melt ice.
My life was going just fine here in Brooklyn where I’ve lived all my life.
Then, the player they call the Nordic Lightning came skating into it.
What I know about hockey I could fit on the tip of my little finger.
I know even less about Erik Sørenson.
But I’m a fast learner.
Almost as fast as he is in those skates.
I’ve learned he’s a Swedish import…or is it Norwegian?
I’ve learned he does things on the ice that make my head spin.
I’ve learned he’s the playmaker, the one that helps his teammates score—both on and off the ice.
Which is why I’m more shocked than anyone when he’s the one asking me out…in the most public way possible.

But our worlds are as different as night and day.

So what happens when the player who is constantly on the move meets up with the woman who is happily rooted in place?

From Brooklyn to Scandinavia, this is another BWWM Stand Alone in the International Legacies Romance series.

Whatta man, whatta man, whatta man, whatta a MIGHTY GOOD MAN! YES HE IS!!!!

"The Nordic Lightning" was Erik and Maya's memorable sports romance story written masterfully by the author's attention to detail of the game of hockey,

description

a budding relationship in the eyes of social media, family and friends

description

and both H/h learning how to honestly deal with their fathers supposedly bad treatment of them.

Remember, "assumptions are the mother of all f@ckups" in this one!

Free Air Life!

5 Stars for this sweet easy going bwwm sports romance. Sometimes it’s nice to read a romance that is heart felt yet easy on the heart. ”Free Air Life”! Camille has a way to draw you into her stories that allow you dig in and relax as the story unfolds. Erik and Maya had a depth in their characters that was relatable but had life. I look forward to Zia and Demetria’s story!

Maya Jackson was just helping out her friend when she agreed to take her son to a hockey game that his father was to busy to attend with him. Little did Maya know, that this one good deed would send her life down the fast lane to love.
Erik Sorenson lived for play hockey because that's the one thing he could count when everyone else had failed him. So used to just focusing on the game, Erik is knocked for a loop when in a full crowd of many shouting fans, he only has eyes for Maya.
Once these two finally meet they connection seems to be more than just a passing crush, but will experiences from the past prevent them from trusting what they have found together? The Nordic Lighting was a sweet romance and Maya and Erik were a joy to get to know. These two both came with their individual issues with their parents that they both had to work through but they seemed to help each other when one was having a tough time with forgiveness of past transgressions. The author did a good job in the characterizations of Maya and Erik along with the family dynamics that made them who they are. If you're looking for a sweet read with a little family drama I think you'll like The Nordic Lightning.

Plot ? We don’t know her!

Conflict? We definitely don’t know her!

I like my books full of good old banter, push and pull with a dose of will they won’t they drama. This book has none of that, however I still enjoyed it for what it is. It just felt like at the end the author seemed bored with the story and decided to rash it to the ending. 😩

This was a good read. Maya goes to a game one night and Erik sees her. He then tries to find her on social media. She becomes a hashtag. Of course people are cruel and that makes her unsure of meeting him. However, once she does they fall for each rather quickly. They have some things to get through but in the end they get their HEA.

This was a sweet story that moved at a steady pace with the right amount of heat. As we trail along with Erik and Maya, from an impromptu instragram message to dealing with deep seated family issues. I'm now a fan of Ms. Steven works, hope this isn't the last we hear of these two.

As far as sport romance go this was great. A good deal of the sport itself was included and didn't involve a "bad boy" having to reform. An asshole of a agent, but the two main characters have you rooting for them from page one. If not totally wanting to bust out that out dance routine you made to 'My Love is Like Whoa' (don't act you didn't)

Run over by the Zamboni

The Nordic Lightning is an interesting story that was quite enjoyable to read. The story-line is not heavy or dark but is sweet, lovely and romantic in this opposites attract story between Maya and Erik. He is a professional hockey player for the Brooklyn Blades and is a Swedish import. Can you say really fast tall, blonde, handsome, sexy and panty melting??? She is a para-legal who is not athletic and knows nothing about hockey.
But once their eyes connect they are run over with the Zamboni!!!! If you don't know about ice rinks then look this up.
Their relationship, really a courtship, is realistic and wonderful to read. That does not mean that there are not some steamy hot love scenes in the story also. The supporting characters are wonderful and not only helped move the story along but also added quite a bit as themselves.

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

AN INTERNATIONAL INTERRACIAL LOVE STORY WITH GOOD VIBES

Maya meets Erik Sorenson, the Nordic Lightning, at a hockey game where she knows nothing about hockey. Love or lust at first sight and they are thinking about each other for the next few days. With a bold move, Erik finds a way to meet Maya. Both, having father problems, hit it off with surprising ease. Throw in bad past relationships and the culture differences, it’s surprising to see how well they get along. The big eye-opener is how well Maya, a black woman, was received by Erik’s family, Scandinavians, much easier than their relationship was received by the Americans.

I received this story for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review

I absolutely love Hockey Romances so I was all over this book like nobodies business . I found Camilla Stevens writing to be totally enjoyable and I absolutely loved the premise of this story. Hot as hell hockey player falls for the woman sitting in the stands who is so obviously out of her element at a professional hockey game. The budding romance between the Scandinavian hockey God and the Brooklyn native is a real page turner. If you love sports romances as much as I do then you should definitely add this book to your TBR List.

I absolutely loved this book. This was a real sports romance, as there was a good amount of information on the sport and I felt like we were really transported into the world of the hockey. The main couple was everything and I loved the development of their relationship. It was a very sweet sports romance with no unnecessary drama or miscommunication, which was very refreshing. I also loved how much we got to learn about Norwegian and Swedish culture, it was all very interesting and fun. The only thing I didn't appreciate was the repetition and focus on race related issues. I understand that it was to make the book more realistic but it felt too much at times, like after mentioning something twice is that not enough? Moreover, the unnecessary episode of someone saying the n-word, came out of nowhere, felt very performative and unnecessary.

Very cute very fast pace book. Always wish these cute books were longer. I always want more details in their relationship or the adventures they have, even after marriage and kids. Maya and Erik were great, loved their chemistry and I’m glad there was no big drama 😇

This starts off as a seemingly light story with loads of heat but you find there is a lot of childhood baggage along for the ride. To say that Maya and Erik have daddy issues is putting it mildly. These two have a world of pain and anger to get through to let their demons go.

There was actual hockey in this book, a lot of these “hockey” books don’t contain much about the sport only about the bad boy player antics, which thankfully Erik is not.

Maya is a young black woman going to her first hockey game and she sees Erik for the first time. Something electric happens between them but she dismisses it as no big deal. Erik thought otherwise and tracked her down in the hopes of going on a date with her.

There is loads of chemistry between these two as they take their time to get to know each other and the secrets that are coming out.

I liked that the author did not have Maya go to ghetto speak when she was with her friends. Her female tribe pretty much covered all spectrums, plus her roommate being white helped make her more rounded.

Erik big Norwegian with an equally big heart knew what he wanted and went after it. He was totally comfortable with himself and didn’t mind making himself look a little foolish to get the lady. He was also not a man dog, which was so nice.

They had some stumbles but they handled themselves like mature adults and didn’t create needless angst.

There is some intense heat with these two and they do melt the ice a bit. Along the way they learn a lot about themselves, each other and finally see the other side of the coin with their parents.

Loved getting to know the family members of both of the characters his morfar/grandfather is a real hoot. You come to have a better understanding of the other family members as the story unfolds.

The only real big stumble for me was the stirring up of bad media stuff due to them being different colors. You figured out who the culprit was almost from the beginning and it just felt more forced than anything. Yes there would have been some blow back from his fans and possibly some of their friends, didn’t have an issue with it being addressed just the clumsy way it was handled.

Great story both of them were very likeable and you enjoyed them getting to their HEA. Plus as a reader you will also learn some Norwegian and some Swedish words.

Whoa!!! Lightning strikes...and it's good, real good...

This was good, very good actually. I thought it started out a little bit slow, but the development and growth of these characters made up for everything in this book and all of it was so worth it and appreciated.
Maya, man even though I was waiting for a little bit of a more profound description, physical description, I imagined her being a cute something, beautiful and a go getter.
Erik was bae and an extremely dedicated alpha. Smart, intelligent with an old modern soul, he was truly the epitome of "don't care of what others think of me~I am going to do me all day, everyday" hence Maya!...
What I didn't like was the not enough physical description, attributes and all towards Maya that kind of stopped me, the reader to connect with her. 2) the lack of more romance that could have been described in NYC, Norway and Sweeden and even in the ring. 3) there are some rich people in there and not once was there an over the top extravaganza, or purchases or just simply show the wealth. I mean it's a super star multi millionaire hockey player, come on...
With that being said, it was nice and the POV were on point and all conversations were all flowing. A wonderful story... Can't wait to read Grigory's story... I hope he is extremely alpha, mafiaboss and rich gangster type of story with lots of romance and over the top riches😜😏

Electric Blue, wink & grin 5 stars

I downloaded the ARC because the book cover made me - LOL. The story between Maya and Erik started out light and amusing. It’s an ‘opposites attract’ romance. Maya knows nothing about hockey but her friend Lisa begged her to go with her son Joey to a hockey game because Joey’s father couldn’t be there again. As she was taking a picture of Joey with his sign, Erik made eye contact with her and a connection sparked. But as you read the chapters, you’ll find it is well-researched because there’s a lot about hockey in the book and a spattering of Norwegian phrases. You’ll also find that courtship is alive and it didn’t hinder the steaminess of Maya and Erik’s attraction for each other. The author was able to present the perfect balance of anticipation and instalove that made the celebrity-normal woman romance progress believable. Maya and Erik’s support of each other is very sweet and endearing as they share things with each other and found commonalities. It is a good love story and an enjoyable read. This is the first book I’ve read from the author and I’m glad I found it. [I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.]

I Enjoyed this Story!

Whew family...the ones who have the ability to love you beyond life OR cut you deep to your soul...

IT was good to read how love will make you re-access what you thought was true and how communication or lack thereof in families will shape your decisions so drastically and send your life in directions that can either further harm you or send you in the right direction...right where you need to be!

Maya and Erik are the right direction for each other and it was a sweet story ...in which they both had experience with a lot of family resentment....long story short in the end it worked itself out.

Although I like happy endings; I would have liked to see a little more detailed ownership of the wrongs done by some of the characters because TRUE FORGIVENESS should be attained by airing it all OUT IN THE OPEN then HEAL. But Maya and Erik appeared to do most of the ownership and caving even though they were children when the hurts occurred. Their families kinda got off lightly but I guess the happier end result is all that matter.

All in all a good read...just a little sizzle of sexy here and there but overall decent story and ending.

This is the 3rd book in the series and I must say I enjoyed this one. The 2nd book, the French Thief, wasn’t one of my favorites. However, I feel this one is equally as good as the first one that hooked me on the series.

Maya Jackson meets Erik Sorenson when she’s ask to babysit her friends kid at a hockey game. The attraction is instant and Erik hits social media trying to find her again.

They eventually meet in person and it’s game on. They soon learn they have more in common than they realize, especially when it comes to family issues. However, their differences become apparent when the public assumes its open access on Maya’s life because she’s dating a very public hockey star.

What I really liked about this story was this was an adult relationship that featured two people who were dealing with issues as they arose and not breaking up and then making up every other page. The steam level on this is intense, but nicely balanced.

Overall, a very good story that got me interested in this series again.

I really like this series. The books take you to places you'd add to your must visit lists.
Erik and Maya are a accidental romance. If Maya had not taken Joey to a hockey game neither of his parents could attend, then she would never have been seen by Joey's idol Erik whilst he was posing for a picture with Joey. Against all logic Erik send's out a sort of SOS across social media to find Maya. This has consequences of both the good and bad kind. They embark upon a romance and find they have a lot in common. Both have had absentee fathers in their childhoods and these very fathers are currently trying get back into their lives. Both Erik and Maya need to address this issue to move forward themselves. Erik is from Norway/Sweden and Maya is a Brooklyn girl, will their cultures allow them to combine the two together or will outside influences decide for them? Great book.

This is the first book I've read from the author and I loved it!
Erik and Maya together were beyond perfect, they complimented each other well and I liked that they could bond over their father issues, but also helped each other work through them.

I have always been a bit sceptical of reading BWWM books, being a black woman myself, but I liked that this book did touch on some race and cultural differences without making their entire romance about the fact he was white and she was black.Another thing about this book that i really enjoyed is that it actually made me interested in more than just the main characters, I was googling Norwegian pronunciations and all sorts.

This book made me swoon hard and laugh loads! Looking forward to reading more from this author!

I recieved a Hidden Gens advance copy of this book for an honest review.

This is ARC review. Erik and Maya are fantastic together. There is no loll in their courtship. The excitement I felt for this couple as read their love story reminded me of Home Run and the Wright Brothers. I could not put this ARC down. The daddy issues, family redemptions, embracing your family and acceptance of your parents, letting go of the past you thought you knew. The uphill struggles of their fresh relationship being critiqued on Twitter and Instagram. I loved they both fought for love and had the support of their teammate/friends/family to follow your gut. The snippets of potential romances stories of Maya’s friends Dementria and Zia. Hopefully Grigor gets Zia (well my fingers are crossed).. I want to say more but really don’t want to spoil it for you readers either.

4.5 stars. Excellent professional hockey romance that also deals with racial issues even tho its contemporary. Erik didn’t have an easy youth and was taunted by even his brother. Erik always felt bad for Liam’s accident but Liam’s mother treated Erik badly. Maya worked for a law firm. She grew up with her mom who pushed that your relationships stay within your race, hers being black. When Erik first saw Maya at a hockey game, he didn’t see a beautiful young black woman he just saw a beautiful woman. They had lots to overcome including the fact that she lived in New York but he lived wherever he was picked up by a team. Ms. Stevens did a wonderful job dealing with all the issues this couple dealt with. I received a complementary copy of this book via Hidden Gems and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Stevens (especially sports).

I think this may be my favorite book by this author. Erik and Maya were perfect together. The way they met was so cute. His pursuit of Maya was sweet. They both had issues from their childhood which gave them an even greater bond. The issues with their families were very well written. It was heartwarming to see the growth of this couple.
There were lots of humorous events throughout the book which added to the entire story.
These books make you want to get on a plane and see the country. Norway sounds beautiful.
The other characters in the book were also interesting. I would've loved to see Zia and Grigory get together.

I really enjoyed Erik and Maya's story. These two definitely were opposites but I found that endearing and loved how despite that, these two were able to find happiness with each other. Of course, that's not to say it was an easy road as they both had to confront issues they had with things that had happened in their past. However, seeing them work through those obstacles together, and all of their great chemistry as their passion heated up the pages, kept me engaged and wanting to find out how their story would end. I loved this installment of the international legacies romance series and can't wait to read what's next. Great book!
