William, Matilda, Olga, Max, and Artan have left Edin behind. There’s nothing for them there other than painful memories and the diseased. Now they have to find a new home, and they have to find one fast. The longer they spend in the wilderness, the more likely they are to die.

But they have hope in the form of a map. It shows communities beyond Edin’s walls. Maybe they’ll find somewhere better than the oppressive regime they’ve left behind.

Although maybe they’re aiming a little too high.

Maybe they need to wait and see what the larger world has to offer.

And maybe they need to concentrate on surviving long enough to find out.

After Edin, book five of Beyond These Walls takes William and his friends away from the only home they’ve ever known and into the wastelands. They’ve spent a lifetime wondering, and now they’re about to find out what lies beyond Edin’s walls.

What an emotive and exciting premise! I couldn’t control the rage and despair the protagonists felt, so realistic and descriptive were the mind blowing scenes.. The reader's emotions are in constant disarray throughout the story as the author allows us to feel hope, despair, fear, suspense, disappointment, grief and apprehension. It will have you thinking about everything long after the last word is read. I couldn’t sleep after I finished reading, so thought provoking it was! This book was like being on a rollercoaster. There are twists and turns and you never know which way it will go next! I absolutely devoured it. And explores many interesting ideas from beginning to end, and it will certainly leave a reader thinking and debating what future they would prefer unfolded before them. The only downside is the fact that it ends. A thoroughly impressive series!
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and my review is entirely voluntary.

This is awful.
Yes, I've read up to and including this fifth installment.
It's tedious. The world is stupid. I think someone might be entertained by reading up to the third book .... but they shouldn't be. I should have stopped after the first book so I would have been left thinking "Well, it's clunky but I'd like to know what in the world is going on."
The answer to what is going on isn't interesting at all and the clunkiness just gets worse.

It has one positive thing that continues throughout books 2 through . There is a lot of combat and it is frequently unique from previous scenes of combat. But the world and the characters are just stupid.
The people in the world seem to really have stupid priorities and stupid moral compasses.
They've been fine killing thousands of unknown people. They've been fine refusing to help innocents.
But now they run in to a horrible moral conundrum because the women of the new Umbriel town aren't allowed to compete in some random violent sporting event. Murder and mayhem and executions are all okay but my gosh the sexism is abhorrent!

The endless stream of Zombies with no explanation as to their source. The ... never mind.
The book(s) are just bad.

Another incredible installment in this riveting series. William and his friends have left Edin and are on there way to what they hope is a better life. Using the map they are heading to one of the locations. What they encounter is not what they expect plenty of action and twists and turns.
Definitely recommended.

I mean, I had to ask, in my last review, what happened to the protectors, didn’t I?

Well, as they’ve been going out daily, hunting for food and defending the citizens of Edin, they’ve actually been building a sanctuary for themselves should the world inevitably fall apart. What a bunch of rotters.

But while Spike, Matilda, Artan, Max and Olga find safety with the next community on from Edin and the protectors’ sanctuary, all is not as it seems. The women of the new community are relegated to cooking and evening activities of the bow-chicka-wow-wow variety, and that’s it. They don’t hunt, they don’t compete in games, they don’t defend themselves and they do not answer back.

Grateful for the reprieve from absolute fear, and for the sudden wonder of regular dinners, the chaps of the group, although accepting of Olga’s principles and her disgust at the treatment of the women, see no purpose in biting the hand that feeds them. But when a hunting party turns to deception, violence and threats against Olga and Matilda, will Spike and his friends survive? What will become of Samson when he’s shaved? And will the odious Ranger finally get his comeuppance?

A return to form, lots of action, and the brilliant question: how many principles will you allow to fall in order to survive?

Excellent.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first four books in the Beyond These Walls series, so I happily accepted an advance reader copy from the author. This review is entirely voluntary and is my honest opinion. Mr. Robertson is an excellent writer, who has created a dangerous world that was almost completely destroyed, but for reasons that have not been revealed. This fifth book continues where the last one left off, immediately sweeping the reader into the non-stop action wherein our friends William (Spike}, Matilda, Artan, Olga and Max are among only a few survivors of the town of Edin which was overrun by the diseased creatures. The group is exploring the outside world depicted in an old map they discovered to try to learn more about the origin of the seemingly unlimited number of diseased creatures. They experience continuous twists and turns as they encounter hundreds of diseased and infrequent bands of Edin refugees, never certain of whether they are friends or foes.

This is a great read, hard to put down, and is promising much more to come in the continuing story. Although I obtained an ARC, I also bought the book, to help support this great author. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I have the six box set of this series and found number five to be another excellent read.

Now away from Edin, William and friends look for sanctuary, however... I love the character development and the twists and turns in the plot. The sense of place is brilliant, while the destroyed world is disturbing.

The power play is always the same in any world and the way most humans behave makes us wonder the point of survival.

Great writing (though the constant use of the Oxford comma spoils the flow - no pause is necessary before the 'and' in a list). Nevertheless, I still think the style and tone are superb.

Highly recommended.

"Weightless from the fall, if only he’d heard the diseased scream before he’d leaped."

The whole series so far is one massive blind leap of faith! Our heroes pull through by the skin of their teeth on every single page.

“If I punch you again”—Olga winked—“you won’t get back up. That was me playing.”

Olga is really growing on me. She's a complete and utter hard nut and I'm glad she's one of the good guys.

With the protectors secret revealed and other communities out there, where do our favourites turn? Who can they trust?
Another fantastic entry to the series 👌

This series has been outstanding through 5 books. The growth of these young adults through each book has been really well done. This is the type of series where just when you think you know exactly whats going to happen your thrown a curve ball. After reading this one you realize what is outside the walls is even worse then you imagined.Just the last sentence of this book alone has me anxiously anticipating the explosiveness of book 6.

By far my favourite part of this instalment can be summarised in one word: Olga. She's a fresh of breath air where the other characters are concerned, and brings a new dynamic and element to the novels. Although the major plot reveals in this novel were quite predictable I still felt that they were generally well executed.

Another exceptional book in the Beyond These Walls series. Sometimes a series will lose momentum after two or three books but this incredible author just keeps getting better and better. Lots of everything in this one to keep you wanting to keep reading. So on to Book #6!!!!!

(Rating 2.5) —- I quite enjoyed this one and the series seems to be getting better. Yes, the dialogue is still cheesy but we are getting to see other communities and I was intrigued with Umbriel and their customs. And the twists and deaths were very unexpected!

This book was crazy. I don't have much to say. I just found out there are like 15 books in this series, I only downloaded the first 6 to my kindle and if it doesn't get better, that's a wrap for me.

Total Score: 5/5

Summary:
Edin has fallen and they have no other choice but to find a new home. On they way out they fight diseased all the way, but with Max’s immunity to the diseased they have a chance. They find out cities protectors instead of saving the city had saved themselves inside a fortress they had obviously built can case things went bad. With they help of Sampson, a protector, they get out of the city, but Artan has grave concerns that Sampson may not be really on their side. This is only the beginning of their trials as the struggle to find a safe haven in a world gone mad where survival of the fittest without care of others is the prime rule.

It was fascinating how William wasn’t always the strongest or smartest, but everyone looked upon him as their leader. Williams ability to accept correction and learn from his mistakes while never loosing his humanity helped him keep them alive. Max’s immunity was fascinating, but also sad because his love for Olga could put her in danger. Matilda and Olga may be the stronger fighters, but there are those people outside of Edin who may not accept them just because they are women. Underestimating Olga and Matilda could prove to be a mistake they shouldn’t have made.

Things go from bad to worse leaving the reader to wonder if they will find a safe haven before it is too late. I will be impatiently waiting for the next book in the Beyond these Walls series.

If readers who have been following this post-apocalyptic survival thriller thought that the time our heroes spent doing their national service was brutal and that the time William and Matilda spent once they returned home to their own community was the pits and rife with danger then they have to think again. This the 5th book in the series is a gut wrencher, I could not stop reading and had to read the whole book through in one sitting, feeling sick with the building of tension for the group we travelled across the wastelands with! William, Matilda, Artan, Olga and Max are trying to keep a low profile hoping to find a community they could join. Killing the diseased has become common place now and with Max being invulnerable to them, they are not the biggest threat around anymore. However the protectors who were living in their fortress and who managed to sneak up on Matilda, Artan and Max were. These so called heroes had a secure base to run to when Edin fell, seems they had been building their fortress for years, they had betrayed an entire city and were now still bullying their way through life under Magma’s rule. This is one hell of a great read, with a few unexpected twists to it and betrayal of trust, brutal and evil but very satisfying when some characters get what they had coming to them for so long! Who the hell is this new monster looming on the horizon, Grandfather Jacks, and why do the community look up to him and serve him? The book does stop on a cliffhanger, which continues to add to the tension and worry, so onward to book 6 asap!

I received this book as an ARC and this is an honest review. Book 5 in this series, the After Edin story is an immediate continuation from where book 4 left off. I enjoyed this book even more than the first four (which were very good). Simply a well written, awesome storyline, with incredible world and character building. Unlike some series, this series of books is not serial. They could be read as stand-alone, but situational information is not repeated over and over (love that!) so you kind of need to read books in order to catch nuances of what is going on. Great Job Michael! Book 6 should be something else, already on my TBR list.

This, the fifth in the series, is even better than all the previous and they are all great reads. I could say many things in praise but I have one sentence that, I think, sums up all of my thoughts: I read After Edin straight through, I even carried it to the bathroom with me. And I’m ready for more! I highly recommend it and hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Please note: there is one heck of a cliff-hanger.

This installment of beyond these walls follows William Matilde, Artan, Olga and Max through remnants of destroyed cities infested with the diseased. Along with fighting for survival against the diseased, the group finds other survivors from Edin who are very unexpected and none too friendly. This installment is action packed and filled with intrigue as well as a few twists that are very unexpected making this the best of the series so far. I received an Advance Reader Copy and chose to provide this review.

I have said it before....this series is EPIC! Whenever I think I have an inkling about what direction the storyline will go in....Michael Robertson completely surprises me. There are so many twists in the instalment of the series which makes the series so brilliant. It is not predictable. It is exciting, riveting and imaginative.

I am really looking forward to book 6.

After Erin

Loved it! I have been dying to find out where the story would take us. I am probably one of the only few people who do not watch the walking dead, but this is what I would imagine humans would be like after any sort of apocalyptic event. This series takes me to my deep imaginings of constant survival mode. Great read! Thanks, Michael. Highly recommended!

This series just keeps on grabbing you. Friends William and Matilda, Matilda's brother Arten, Max and Olga are on the run after the fall of Eden, looking for a place to survive. Life was difficult in Eden, but outside is even more so. Their journey continues in this book 5 of Beyond These Walls, packed with lots of danger and action.
