As long as hamster spirit Shu Shu can survive the lightning tribulation, then his cultivation will be able to turn him into a human. In the end, the lightning tribulation strikes him and he arrives in the… future?
Touching the hamster’s ear on his head, in order not to be seen by people and taken to be a monster, Shu Shu decides to dig a hole in the forest to hide and live, and as a result… a very big snake aaaahhhh! Please, don’t eat me!
The crown prince of the beast empire is seriously injured and becomes a beast that could no longer change into human form. He lives alone in the forest. One day, he sees a cute sub beastman deep in the forest. The sub beastman also sees him. At once, the sub beastman’s eyes roll backwards and he faints…. Scared to death?
Shu Shu: I have a unique technique of faking death.
This is just a fun and silly little story. Very lighthearted and fluffy. The plot is also something you shouldn't take too seriously. Definitely not something you pick up if you're looking for a solid plot and great characterization but if you just want something quick and fun to pass the time, this is for you. I enjoyed my time while reading this but unfortunately, this is something that I would quickly forget. This is a kind of story that nothing sticks out, but I don't regret picking this up.
I liked the start, silly character vignettes and stupid misunderstandings are my jam.
A shameless cute glutton mc and an ml that over complicates things in his head is a very charming set up. But any time the author tried in incorporate plot or world building I hated it. Once the mc and ml left the jungle of character moments and could communicate with each other, I knew it was a matter of time before I dropped it. And sure enough.
It lost a lot of my goodwill by kicking off the greater conspiratorial plot with a giant victim blaming SA disaster. The ml is currently being impersonated and slandered, the most damning part of which is a character who was assaulted by the impersonator so brutally they were permanently disfigured. When it comes to light that the ml has a solid alibi- being in a charming comedy set up this entire time on a remote planet- any and all mention of the impersonator is dropped in favor of ridiculing the victim for falling for it. They're still in a wheel chair, but the author feels it's extremely important to point out that they're not even that good looking, and the ml is so handsome that he surely wouldn't bother assaulting them when they could have anyone they wanted. *gag*
And no I don't care if it turns out that the victim was in on the impersonation, because that isn't what the author thinks was most important to establish. The narrative immediately swings to how sad and sympathetic and wronged the ml has been by these accusations (despite only witnessing about thirty seconds of scrutiny) and at the 40% mark, we have yet to return literally any concern on the assault that was on national television.
After that the story gains no points back.
The writing repeats over and over, ten times easily, that the mc looks underaged. To the point that the ml intentionally dresses the mc more maturely and encourages him to claim that he's actually juuuuust 18. WE know that the mc is over a hundred years old, and I'm not that stiff about fiction anyway. I just hate how scummy the ml is about this. He doesn't question it even for a moment, just hops right on grooming who he thinks is a child- even though this child saved his life.
EVEN THEN, I was reading. Victim blaming and under age creepiness are things I can muscle through if the reward is good enough. But it wasn't.
The ml- again, after the mc saved his life with what is only understood to the ml as miraculous magical abilities- wants to send the mc to school because he can't read or write the language and baaaarely speaks it. But he doesn't want to send him to a school that would properly educate him on those things- because they would be resources for children and he doesn't want the mc to be acknowledged as underaged. *gag*
So rather than hiring tutors and encouraging him to follow his dreams as repayment for all the mc has done for the ml, he lies to the mc and sends him to a homemaking university course for wealthy future socialites to train on being excellent brides. For himself. He states explicitly it's for himself. To keep the mc away from competition and to teach him basic skills with an emphasis on pleasing husbands.
When the mc finds out IN THE MIDDLE OF CLASS, that this was not in fact the art course he'd been promised and he was being shown anatomy specific to the ml and how to better understand the ml, he was upset and humiliated. He was the only one in the class to not know what was going on. The ml is scum. He's guilty about it too, the author knows this was shitty to do. We just blow by it really really fast because it's more important that they get together as quickly as possible.
Anyway at this point, I've most definitely thought about about this longer than the author did before publishing. I dropped it and I'm not coming back.
pros: nice and likeable mcs and side characters, has some really funny moments, overall pretty fluffy and lighthearted, the mpreg part is done surprisingly well and didn’t make me very uncomfortable (which is rare as someone who’s scared shitless of pregnancy and doesn’t like kids even in stories), overall plot line was fine, the end of the main story was good, didn’t read all the extras but they were also cute!, s*x with consent and overall both parties wanting it which should be the bare minimum but is actually pretty rare to see in novels like this?? so that was good
cons: mpreg and kind of omegaverse dynamics with the beastmen and sub-beastmen which surprised me a bit (didn’t really expect it, but it was fine after all), the western names take a while to get used to (bc they’re usually especially weird ones too, see edgar, gary, fred lol), the snakephobia got resolved halfway through as means to beat the lightning tribulation but then later on resurfaced and wasn’t much better for no reason??
Cute, easy, fun, and simple read. Includes, mpreg, cultivation, beastmen, egg laying, throne ascension, hamster to doctor pipeline, idk so much more stuff I can't even name it all. I really like snakes they're very awesome. The first section while in Gass Planet is my fav bc it's cute. The names Edgar, Fred, and Gary took me out. Why those names? Why did you do this to me? Too hilarious
My favorite chapter is 63.
My favorite quotes: “He really didn't expect that as a little hamster, he actually had a chance to lift off and fly into space!" “As long as they could sleep in the same bed, he didn't mind sleeping with a hamster.” “Perhaps it was not a bad thing to die in an explosion. At least, it was brilliant enough.”
The fact that this is the last book I need to fulfill my yearly goal is kind of funny
Oh, this is a wonderful read. I have read it more than once, but i have not properly finished it yet. I best get to rereading it. It has everything to love in a story; cuteness, drama, comedy, relationships, cute hamsters, love and lovely couples being lovey dovey together.
The hamster shushu is my fave character and his prince snake husband too. Of course, their children and grandchildren are wonderful too. Its worth the read and reread.
It's short read and the plot is simple but I really couldn't stop reading it's continuously because something or other kept happening, so it became more interesting... :D
I started thinking I'll slowly read and also study this side by side but somehow I managed to read this in one go and ignoring other novels and my studies fml
4.5!! I like it hehe but i think chapter 130 is unnecessary and should just stop at the 'gay little prince' arc. But i wouldn't say no to it. I dont want this story to end but im glad it end where it should be :))
This novel is just pure cute and with a nice plot. I love the way MC is. Shu Shu is just so cute, and Edgar is the man we all want. If you expect something like power couple but in a soft and cute way, this pair is. And the way author narrated shu shu thoughts are just so fun to read.
I love the story and the misunderstanding about tumor and diarrhea got me laughing my ass off. Side story felt kinda rushed but nonetheless it is still worth the read.
I just really didn't care anymore and saw no reason to push myself further. It started off well but somewhere along the line I felt like I was reading a different book that I didn't sign up for and didn't care about. Maybe I would have pushed on if there was any whiff of interesting plot development, sadly all that awaited me were shopping trips and uni classes.
If you're into characters who miscommunicate, are blind to all that goes on around them but are still beloved (and I do mean beloved) by everyone they meet for no other reason than their existence itself then this is the novel for you!
Switched from 4 -> 5 stars. First time reading it through I liked but didn't think it was a masterpiece. BUT I found myself coming back to this book over and over again. So clearly the author did SOMETHING right since I've reread it multiple times. I think the plot and the characters are just so comforting and cute and fun that I'm just drawn into the book.

Did not expect to enjoy a book about animal/human spectrum people much since I've always felt the trope to be a bit gimmicky but surprisingly enjoyed it a lot 😊 I think the beginning was particularly funny and I really like the easy going personality of the mc, and honestly wanted to read through the lives of their children and their children and their children... 😂😅 Main downside I think was the very classic chinese trope-y face slapping..like sometimes it felt forced. But definitely binged this one in two days 😊
