A family secret. A young love. A centuries old Vatican secret. A demonic battle as old as time itself. Can one man rise up to stem the tide in the battle of Good versus Evil?
William Miller is a simple farmer in the 18th century coastal town of St. Margaret’s Hope Scotland. His life is mundane, as is the day-to-day life of most of this town's residents, but his nights are something else. William can see ghosts. A skill he has learned to live with, and learned to hide.
The chance discovery of his special ability opened up an avenue to adventure he never knew existed. One that would take him away from his small village and let him see the world. Of course, it doesn’t come without a price. To leave his sleepy town, he must follow a mysterious visitor back to the Vatican and undergo training to become a warrior in a spiritual war. If he agrees, his decision will bring danger to his family, both now and for generations to come. What will he decide?
The Origins of Miller’s Crossing is the prequel to the International Best Seller The Ghosts of Miller’s Crossing. If you like mythic folklore, reluctant heroes, and stories of malevolent threats, then you’ll love David Clark’s chilling tale.

David Clark is an author of multiple self-published horror novels and anthologies (amazon genre top 100) and can be found in 3 published horror anthologies. His writing focuses on the suspense, horror and sci-fi genres with a writing style takes a story based on reality, develops characters the reader can connect with and pull for, and then sending the reader on a roller-coaster journey the best fortune teller cannot predict. He feels his job is done if the reader either gasps, makes a verbal reaction out loud, throws the book across the room, or hopefully all three.
Oh my!! This was a superb read, I almost didn't want it to end. As a "prequel" book to a trilogy (really a 4 book series) it stands head and shoulders above others of its ilk with impressive writing, an intense back-story with wonderfully developed characters and some truly horrific scenes with a couple of demons. I'm off to save my pennies now so that I can gorge on the following three novels in the box set.
There are six known places in the world that are more "paranormal" than anywhere else. The Vatican has taken care to assign "sensitives" and "keepers" to each of those to protect the realm of the living from the realm of the dead. With the colonization of the New World, a seventh location has been found, and time for a new recruit. William Miller is a simple farmer in the 18th century coastal town of St. Margaret's Hope Scotland. His life is ordinary and mundane, mostly. He does possess one unique skill. He sees ghosts. A chance discovery of his special ability exposes him to an organization that needs people like him. An offer is made, he can stay an ordinary farmer, or come to the Vatican for training to join a league of "sensitives" and "keepers" to watch over and care for the areas where the realm of the living and the dead interaction. Will he turn it down, or will he accept and prove he has what it takes to become one of the true legends of their order? It is a decision that can't be made lightly, as there is a cost to pay for generations to come.
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Absolutely fantastic! If you like paranormal this series is for you
Finding the origin to the story put things in place. A man who could see spirits, brought to the Vatican for training, then he and his wife were sent to the new world to watch over Miller's Crossing and it's inhabitants. Fighting demons and sending stuck earth bound souls to where they belonged.
Incredibly well written book. I love all the history and research the author did to make this book so very real. It was refreshing to read about how William would be the newest protector of human society. I was proud of Aisnlee because she was willing to learn what William was learning in order to be his best advocate against spirits and demons. Moving to the new world would be quite daunting, but the rewards would be knowing that you helped keep the balance. This book is great for a quick read, especially if you like books about fighting real evil.
The Origins of Miller’s Crossing is a well-written prequel to The Ghosts of Miller’s Crossing. From the sleepy coastal town of St. Margaret’s Hope in Scotland, to the Vatican City, to Miller’s Crossing, we see William Miller progression from a simple farmer to becoming very important in the fight between good and evil. An eerie and frightening tale. I received a copy of this book for an honest review
This is a prologue to THE ORIGINS OF MILLERS CROSSING. In the 18th century William Clark is a humble farmer near a small fishing village in Scotland. He has seen ghosts since he was a child & hasn't thought himself special or gifted. In fact, he thinks his "gift" is a bother when his animals are anxious & noisy and he has to chase the ghosts away. It is the drudge of day to day toil, & he sometimes sits at the sea sideto ponder his life. He would like to go beyond his small village, anywhere that would ne an adventure. He has always loved Ainsley and she him -- but he doesn't know it. Her father is a wealthy man and thinks William is beneath her. When a stranger contacts him about his gift & offers to take him to the Vatican in Italy for education and training, William is overjoyed. But what about Ainsley? They get married the night before the voyage begins and become involved in a secret select group of people like William to protect the world ftom evil. Loved David's descriptive writing, characters and his handling of the unusual subject of the paranormal hundreds of years ago.

Got this for free when signing up for author's newsletter. In no way was I even asked to review. This review is my own opinion. William Miller is a simple farmer in Scotland. However farming isn't the only natural ability he has. William is able to see ghosts and interact with them. After some encounters with his local priest who sees potential in William, he is the sent to the Vatican for "Special Training ". But why does he need training in something he's able to do naturally? And will he be able to survive the training before he's even sent out on real missions?
Enjoyed this book and found a new series to get into. If you want something with more substance then your typical haunting types, this is for you.
Paranormal Horror type genres aren’t usually my thing, but I literally fell over this on Kindle and was drawn to the premise. So, then finding the origin story seemed a good place to start.
And I admit I enjoyed it. It wasn’t too long, and it flowed well even if there were bits that felt a tad rushed and glossed over.
It could use a small touch of editing as the tenses and structure are slightly weird, but that in no way detracted from the reading experience.
I want to read the rest of the ‘Miller’s Crossing’ books now, and look forward to following the continued adventure!
A story involving a simple farmer in the 18th century would not usually be my kind of book but when you throw in a long held secret by the Vatican involving ghosts, demons and those trained to protect the living world from them, then what you have is an interesting and intriguing story that had not difficulty holding my interest, I enjoyed this one far more than I expected when I first started it.
I liked this narrator, he was a good fit for this story and has a pleasant voice.
The Origins of Miller's Crossing is the prequel to The Ghosts of Miller's Crossing and is a story of Good vs Evil.
This book is well written and tells the backstory of the Miller family and how they became the keepers to watch over the seventh realm and the interaction between the living and the dead. This story kept my interest from beginning to end with the chilling fight of good vs evil.
Fascinating read. My only issue is that the story moves back and forth in time, and it is very confusing to get oriented with the various changes. This book very much reads as if it is the first in a series, which it is, but the book doesn't really have a storyline of its own beyond setting up the coming books. Still, it was a quick read and has done its job of hooking me in to the series. Looking forward to Book 2.
The Origins of Miller's Crossing by David Clark is an amazing story that I have read. This amazing story is written by a brand new author for me to read and I can not wait to read more from him. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about horror and paranormal romances.

The story line was great, the character work was terrific, and the book had a smooth flow to it. I was hooked from beginning to end. I can't wait to read the next one.

Amazing story that captures the reader and won't let go!
Mysterious and suspenseful, also very spiritual. This book is a beginning, almost a prequel to what seems will be epic in the life of a poor farmer and his future generations. Well done!
As a prequel to the Millers Crossing hauntings this could not be more right. Here we learn some of what Millers Crossing is about. Important to the following books, I believe. Well written , the story moves along at a good pace with a nice introduction to "what comes next" in this world.
Having read the other books in the Miller's Crossing series I found this book very good. It adds a level of depth and history to the events at Miller's Crossing that makes the series that much more fulfilling.
A unique but predictable story of a young Scottish farmer who has the gift of seeing spirits and his journey of going to the Vatican and learning long held secrets about spirits, demons and the afterlife. This is my honest unbiased review.
I received this book through a promotion, but it was worth buying! I absolutely loved this book. The story... the characters... and all with an interesting and addicting plot that I haven't seen in any other book I've read. After finishing it, I bought the next one!
This was a great prequel and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It took me on a journey that I certainly did not expect from the first few pages. Action, thrills and demonic entities all tied in with a love story and the Vatican overlooking it all. 5 stars!
I liked the idea of the story and David proceeded with it well. I think you will like this book. I would have given it a 5-star except I had a bit of a difficult time with the religion differences for me.
This was an extremely well written period thriller of good vs evil, ghosts and demons. A couple of epic battles graphically told. As this was a prequel, I will now have to search for the series and follow the story. Worth reading.
This book, sets the stage for, a very exciting, interesting and often, other worldly new series from David. Whilst steeped in Religion and in part the past.
A simple farmer , but one who sees ghosts. His gift is required by the Vatican. He and his wife go to learn how to become ‘keepers’. These are unique individuals who will protect people from evil.
