For Cruz Livingston, becoming an FBI agent is a lifelong dream, guarding the streets of San Antonio, a calling. His latest assignment—infiltrating the Red Brothers Motorcycle Club—will help stem the flow of illegal drugs brought into the city by the violent gang. He expects the job to be dangerous. He doesn’t expect to meet the woman of his dreams while undercover.

Mickie Kaiser is refreshingly sweet, but her sister is intimately involved with the RBMC’s president. Cruz can’t afford to come clean about his double life without putting his operation in danger, but as violence creeps ever closer to Mickie, his priority becomes crystal clear. Cruz will do anything to keep Mickie alive…even if it means losing her love.

** Justice for Mickie is the 2nd book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

Mickie has practically sacrificed her life to raise her sister Angel, since their parents couldn't be bothered to do so. They would just give Angel what ever she wanted when she wanted it, never set any boundaries. This is how she basically becomes a self centered bitch only thinking about herself. Angel gets caught up in the dirty underbelly of the world when she starts seeing / dating the president of the motor cycle club.
Cruz is an undercover FBI agent, who is tasked with infiltrating the MC, and finding out where their drug supply is coming from. As a prospect he is told to watch over Angel, make her feel comfortable with the guys of the club, so the president can use her and her rich friends to sell more drugs to. While watching Angel one day, Mickie catches his eye. Cruz originally intends to get to know Mickie to get insider information on Angel thinking it will get him closer to Ransom the MC president. However Cruz likes her, like really likes her and they begin dating. Cruz is now leading a double life, one as himself "Cruz" when with Mickie and then "smoke" when dealing with the club.
I felt the romance / love story between Cruz and Mickie took a back seat to the story of all the vile, abuse, and rape some women suffered at the hands of the MC in Mrs Stokers pursuit to show why Cruz went undercover and why it was so important for him to do what he was doing. That being said Mrs. Stoker is a wonderful writer and has a way of drawing you in. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

This one was much darker than the first in the series. It was intense and hardcore, not one for those of us who like fluffy romances featuring bossy alphas.

Crew is an FBI man who's gone undercover in an MC. Now I've read lots of MC books and, according to them, MC members are hard on the outside, soft on the inside. Yeah, so this gang wasn't. Yikes it was dark, with deets of drug abuse, violence, sexual assault and other vileness all the way through. It was darker than I'm comfortable with tbh so that did affect my enjoyment.

The romance was there and it was pretty compelling, but I felt like it was not the main focus of this story.

Complete story part of a series featuring recurring characters. Recommended.

We're going nitty gritty with this one people and I loved it. If you read book one, Justice for Mackenzie, then you'll remember Cruz saying he was going undercover for a few months. (If you haven't read book one yet, I really suggest you do. Yes, you can easily follow this story without feeling lost, but it does help you get the full picture of Cruz and his friends. Plus, Dax and Mackenzie's story...beautiful and heartwrenching at the same time.)

Now Cruz is an FBI agent undercover as "Smoke" with an MC club and he hates it more and more every day. These are really bad guys. You'd expect that from an MC club, right? We all know they aren't hanging out in blanket forts, drinking juice boxes, and coloring. Quite a visual though, huh? LOL (Although, I would certainly join that club.) His job is to get close to Angel, Ransom's girlfriend. Cruz quickly realizes that won't work because Angel is clueless, about a lot of things, and Ransom couldn't care less about her. Ransom sees two things when he looks at Angel - a conquest and the key to her rich friends.

Then there's Mickie, Angel's older sister, who basically raised Angel because their parents didn't have the time, unless it was to give Angel everything she wanted. *cough cough spoiled brat* Now Ransom knows Mickie doesn't trust him and is trying to make Angel see the truth. So he has "Smoke" keep an eye on Mickie. This works out perfectly because Cruz is attracted to Mickie. However, as their relationship progresses, Cruz realizes he loves Mickie and he could lose her when she learns the truth.

What happens when secrets are revealed? When Mickie gets caught in the wrong place at the wrong time? Will she trust Cruz to keep her safe? Will she give him a second chance to prove his feelings for her were always real?

Now I did say this is grittier than we're used to from Susan. But, I also think it's what one would expect when reading a book where the hero is undercover at an MC club. Some may feel there was too much focus spent on the actions of the club, but I disagree. Cruz met Mickie because of Angel's affiliation with the club and Cruz had to actually witness what the bad guys were doing so he could put them away. I think all of those parts were necessary to truly tell the story and I don't feel they overshadowed their relationship at all. I think it helped portray the balancing act that Cruz had to play as both "Smoke" and his true self. The bad guy that he had to show the club vs the good guy that he truly is and could only be with Mickie.

My suggestion is to read both book one and this book. You will love them. Ooh and let's not forget the snippet we're given at the end letting us know book three's couple. I cannot wait to see how that story will play out.

Did you read my previous review where I stated this series will send me binge reading?

Well it did. I immediately started Justice for Mickie as soon as I finished Justice for Mackenzie and again.. Not. Disappointed.

Mickie is trying to save her sister from herself as well from making a mistake with her new boyfriend Ransom who is the president of an MC. Well, not just any MC, but the worst that San Antonio has. While trying to save her sister she meets and begins dating Cruz Livingston. The FBI agent who is undercover trying to bring down the ruthless MC. Except Mickie doesn't know that. Will she still want him once she finds out who he really is?

I'm loving the suspense part of this series, A LOT. But what I'm liking most about this series is that the characters are older. There's not playing around with what they want in each other. The other pro in this series, the heroines are strong. They don't shy away from both getting their hands dirty and sticking up for themselves. These ladies demonstrate that behind every alpha male, there's a female who stands next to him, not behind them.

Susan Stoker has officially been added to my auto-buy, author love list. Can't wait to see what's in store for this crew that comes together when crisis is the highest.

In the meantime, I will continue my binge read... Let's see what happens with SAPD falls in love, blindly.

Another solid read from Susan Stoker! I loved that the MC was portrayed as the bad guys and Susan gives a nod to the trend in romance novels. It was nice to have bad guys be exactly what you expect. There is no bad boy with a heart of gold waiting to be discovered by the right woman. I appreciate that trope on occasion, but its nice to have actual GOOD GUYS like you find in Susan's books! I knew the ending was coming but wow.. I was not expecting that. It all happened so quick, my head was spinning.

~FBI Agent Cruz Livingston knew his latest undercover assignment would be bad but he’ll do anything to take down this gang. What he never expected was Mickie, a woman who only wants to protect her sister.~

I love the setup for Quint and Corrie’s story.

After reading and enjoying ‘Justice for Mackenzie’, the first book in this series. I got curious about the second book so I just decided to read it.

When Cruz gets the chance to infiltrate into a motorcycle club who is under suspicion of dealing drugs, he takes the job. Because he knows from personal experience what drugs can do to people. But the last thing that Cruz expects when he goes undercover, is that he will meet a woman that makes his heart beats faster. Not only is the timing all wrong but Mickie’s sister Angel is also in a relationship with the president of the MC. Mickie isn’t happy about her sister’s new boyfriend and tries to convince her sister to leave him. Which makes her not very popular within the club. Soon things are getting more and more out of control. So now, Cruz doesn’t only has to do his job of finding evidence against the club but he also has to protect Mickie and her sister against them. But that’s not all, Mickie doesn’t know that Cruz is a FBI agent or that he is undercover. To her, he’s just a guy who she met and fell for. What will Mickie do when she discovers that Cruz has lied to her. And that he’s in some way involved with the motorcycle club? Can she forgive him for lying to her?

Just like in the first book, both character are a bit older. That’s something that I liked, they also felt ‘real’, they had their insecurities, their good and bad sides. I liked that and the story is again told from both POV’s. But I must say that I didn’t enjoy this story as much as I did the first one. I liked the characters and their interactions but I think that for me, there was a bit too much focus on Cruz undercover job and a bit less interaction between him and Mickie. I can understand that the writer wanted us to know how bad the guys from the motorcycle club were, so we had to know the club very well. But the romance got a bit on the background for me, personally.

I liked how Cruz and Mickie met and the ending of the story but I liked the middle of the story less. It lost my attention for a bit there.

Justice for Mickie is book two by Susan Stoker in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes series. Illegal drugs were flowing in the streets of San Antonio by a local Motorcycle Club called the Red Brothers. FBI agent Cruz Livingston's assignment was to infiltrate this gang to determine how they bring in the drugs. FBI agent Cruz Livingston knew the job would be difficult, but he did not expect to meet Mickie Kaiser, a woman of dreams who could endanger his mission. The readers of Justice for Mickie will continue to follow FBI agent Cruz Livingston to discover what happens.

The Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Series is another fantastic series by Susan Stoker, and Justice for Mickie is an excellent addition to this series. I engaged with the characters and the story from the first page. I love Susan Stoker's portrayal of her characters and how they intertwine throughout this book. Justice for Mickie is well-written and researched by Susan Stoker. I like Susan Stoker's description of the settings of Justice For Mickie, which complemented the book's plot.

The readers of Justice for The readers will learn about the consequences for young girls when they get mixed up in a criminal motorcycle cub. Also, the readers will understand what damage drugs have to a community.

I recommend this book.

**I received a copy of this book, from the author, in exchange for a honest review.**

I was one of the select few to receive an advance copy for Justice For Mickie by Susan Stoker. I have to admit though, going into this I was slightly conflicted. I adore Mrs. Stoker's books and bow down to her greatness in romance writing. I also love MC books and it's known that the MC in this book is not your mama's MC. I think that showing the barbaric side of this outlaw MC is pivotal in this book. It creates great drama and helps to set up the storyline. That being said, I got over being conflicted and realized that Stoker's awesome writing trumped that. =)

In all of Stoker's books her lead male characters are fiercely loyal and Cruz is no exception. Cruz wants to help Mickie and her sister, even if Angel is a royal B. It's a struggle for him because he has to solve this case but he doesn't want that to happen at the risk if losing Mickie. When the climatic part of the story is reached, you see the emotion and vulnerability that Cruz is trying to hide. Sometimes even the strongest male has to cry.

With Mickie, I love her because no matter what, family is important. She spends a lot of time begging and pleading with Angel, trying to get her to see that her lifestyle is no good. She doesn't give up, even when the door is literally slammed in her face. Her persistence can be seen as her downfall but when it comes to family, it's a great quality.

We do get a nod to one of our favorite SEALS, Mozart. It seems that Cruz and Mozart have a history. Mozart’s past plays a pivotal role in Cruz’s decision to join the FBI. There is also a great setup for the next book in this series, Justice For Corrie. I think that one is going to be a favorite.

Stoker’s writing is top notch. One of the things that I like about her books is that they never drop off. You never get to the point that the story drags. Each book is consistent from page 1 to the end. It’s the same for this book. One thing I am finding with this book and series is that it is more adult than her previous books. The sex scenes are more graphic and steamy than in any other book. Is this a bad thing? NO! Bring on the steamy scenes. Mmmm….Cruz. I love me some Cruz. Where was I? Book review….right. Any who, I love the author’s writing and I feel that she captured Cruz and Mickie well.

My overall thoughts of this book are that I loved it and I don’t have a complaint about it. I highly recommend that you read this series. It is definitely one that should not be missed.

Cruz is undercover for the FBI investigating the Red Brothers Motorcycle Club. Angel, Mickie's sister, is involved with the club's president. When Ransom, the president, threatens Mickie for trying to get Angel away from him, Cruz decides to get closer to her in order to protect her. He didn't count on falling for her though.

I liked Mickie. Even though Angel treated her terribly, she was determined to be there for her. She wanted to have a relationship with her and was willing to wait for her to come to her senses. She was even willing to put herself in danger to get Angel away from the RBMC. While at times she seems a little unsure of herself, Mickie is a strong woman.

I also liked Cruz. He was caught between a rock and a hard place. He wanted to protect Mickie but he couldn't blow his cover. He wanted to protect Angel, if only because she meant something to Mickie. Cruz did his best on both fronts all while trying to gather information to bring an end to the club's drug dealing business. You can't help but feel badly for him because he's genuinely a good guy, yet he's forced to do awful things to keep his cover in the club. He knows he has to do those things, but he feels terrible about them both while he's doing them and afterwards.

This book was dark and gritty at times, and sweet and romantic at others. This contrast works well to separate the two lives Cruz was leading. There was the life in the club, filled with darkness and violence, and then there was his normal life; the two couldn't have been any more different.

With Justice for Mickie, Susan Stoker has created a great story that has a nice blend of darkness and light. There's violence and crime, there's romance and forgiveness, and there are also a few surprises along the way. Cruz and Mickie were great characters that you can't help but root for because they both deserve some happiness. I would definitely recommend giving this book a read.

I don't usually read MC books, but I am glad I took a chance on this one. I absolutely loved the characters of Mickie and Cruz. The way they meet and then the bond formed was great. Cruz is a very caring guy stuck in an untenable situation. Mickie is almost the same way, having been pretty much responsible for raising her younger sister. The action and suspense will keep you gripping the edge of your seat, and the romance will have you swooning. I definitely want to read more in this series. wanted to like this but…

I wanted to like this book, I expected to like this book. I’ve read many Susan stoker books and enjoyed most if not all of them. But this was not one of them.

While I think I could have liked the two MCs if they had been in another book I was really turned off/ disturbed by the constant scenes that happened in the 🏍️ club or with other members of the club where the male MC was undercover. I understand the nature of being undercover and so while I understand why the male MC participated and acted the way he did around the club it really bothered me to see him do so. I felt like we were told how he was a good guy but never really shown it since he was consistently having to act bad or uncaring to keep his cover. This book would have been better to me if there were less scenes in the club or if he had been able to close the case faster (like towards the beginning) and then maybe the climax of the story could have been one of the bikers taking revenge on him for being a Rat.

I really didn’t get/ understand the FMC either. I never felt the sisters really cared for or about each other. Angel was just an ungrateful mean bitch to her sister the whole time. The entire plot line with Mickie was about “protecting” her sister from the 🏍️ club president. But while Mickie kept saying she wanted to help her sister her actions seemed designed to push her away. I felt she really just had judgement and prejudice about her sister’s choices the whole time. While she ended up being right about her sister’s bad choices I felt she should have tried approaching it differently instead of nagging the whole time.

Lastly the whole situation of him lying and keeping secrets and not being who she thought was never really addressed. Don’t get me wrong, I understand why he did so and support the idea of a couple trying to move past it to happiness. But even rational understanding people who hadn’t just suffered trauma and loss would have hurt feelings, questions, and concerns that would need to be addressed before moving on to the happiness and sex.

Over all I didn’t enjoy this book. I felt it could have been done quite differently for a more satisfactory story. I really had to make myself finish it so I would be able to move to the next book in the series. Here’s hoping it’s better 🤞since I usually enjoy Susan Stoker books.

This is not your usual Susan Stoker book. It's gritty, dirty, raw and just plain perfection! I was a little concerned at first, though. I was annoyed with Angel and Mickie. The whining (Mickie) and bitching (Angel) just threw me off and I almost stopped reading. I am so glad I stuck with it!!

In every book of Susan's, the man is the one who does the saving. I don't think that's the case in this story. I think Mickie is the one who saved Cruz. He seemed so lost to me. The things he had to do and the things he saw with the MC started to break him. He needed her to balance out the evil he had to look at everyday. She was his breath of fresh air.

The way the MC was portrayed was phenomenal! You only read about the MC's that are sweet and wonderful. This is the complete opposite. There were so many times while I was reading that I just had to stop and take a minute. Triggers, triggers, triggers.

All in all, it was a fabulous book and I can't wait to read the next one!!

Thanks, Susan, for the ARC and for all the work you do.

So much of this one was predictable, yet I really liked Cruz and Mickie as a couple. Mickie seemed to be the thing that kept Cruz tethered while he was working such a horrible job. Yet her close connection to the case brought him trouble. You knew when Mickie found out the truth the crap would hit the fan. To say that happened was an understatement. It didn't help that Mickie found out in the worst possible way. I wasn't sure that they would be able to make it as a couple after that madness, but Cruz's friends has his back and helped explain things to Mickie and we got our HEA, one where there was hope all would be sunshine ahead for them.

This is the love journey of Mickie and Cruz. Mickey is the concerned older-sister of a young woman and Cruz is the undercover cop assigned to break up a drug ring. While under cover cruz meets Mickey and was very hesitant to tell her anything about his undercover assignment but as it turns out Mickie’’s sister was part of the investigation. Mickie and Cruz became attracted to each other and reluctantly Cruz started dating Mickie. The more they got to know each other the harder it was for Cruz to do his job effectively. There’s a good mix of romance and drama. If you like that this book is for you.

This was similar to the first book - in a good way. The plot is pretty simple, but the tension is real. There are some tropes that could have been annoying, but were actually well done. But no mistake, this is dirty and gritty and ugly in places.

Note: if you don't like to read about motorcycle clubs where the women are treated like trash, avoid this story - they abuse is detailed and pervasive.

There is a HEA, and the bad guys get what's coming to them. But it's a pretty nasty road to get there.

I'll read the next one.

Cruz goes under cover in an MC gang who are dealing drugs, they are evil, bad and violent. They don't care about any women even their ol' ladies, abuse is the norm. While Cruz is deciding on the best way to get inside information he meets Mickie, instead of getting closer to her sister he decides to do what he can to keep Mickie as far away from the club as he can. Angel I felt was heartless, cruel and selfish out only for herself and no care at all about how worried her sister was. Mickie has pretty much sacrificed her own life to raise and love Angel as their parents couldn't be bothered, she is sweet kind and loving. Because under cover work means secrets this made Cruz feel bad that he couldn't be completely honest about what he did, he also couldn't do as much to protect Angel as he would have liked. I felt sorry for both of these characters, each was getting a bit of a raw deal with the situation they were in. Lots of suspense as well as some cruelty and abuse against women, there is drug taking and the sexual content is explicit. Some of this content is quite hard to read, the behaviour of Ransom and his men is hardcore and not pleasant in any way shape or form. I actually felt that this is probably the sort of life the more extreme MC gangs would live like in real life, though id feel sorry for anyone that got caught up accidentally. Raw, dark and edgy as well as violent story. At the same time you get pulled into it and find yourself with your fingers crossed that Cruz can keep Mickie safe and away from the compound and Ransom. A well written and enthralling story.

The couple: Cruz and Mickie

Romance trope: law enforcement
Series: Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes
Length: 302 pages

Plot: Mickie is at her wit's end with her little sister, who can't see that her choice of a violent MC pres as a new boyfriend is a bad deal. She wants to protect the young woman that she practically raised, but her sister is not at all grateful or receptive. That's where Cruz comes in. He's undercover in the motorcycle gang, but when the pres tells him to make his new "girlfriend's" sister back off, he finds a new purpose. Mickie is his and he'll protect her, no matter what.

Commentary: I like that generally this author's characters are a little older than the standard romance heroine, but despite the age and experience Mickie had, she made a massive dumb decision. Well, first, I would have left the sister to her own devices well before. She was getting meaner and meaner, and I know Mickie loved her and felt like she had raised her, but the girl was getting meaner and meaner and there's only so much someone can take (and should take). I know it's unrealistic to just drop a family member like that, though. But deciding to go undercover into the MC as a party girl with the other druggie girls? Beggars belief. And I don't want to say that she caused what happened at the party, because everything was heading there to begin, but she might have sped things up. I can't even believe she went there. It seems sort of out of character for one of Stoker's heroines. They're usually smart and kind but don't venture into the bada$$ territory. And I like it that way. I mean, what was she going to do when she got there? Just hang out in a corner and hope nobody bothered her or obstructed her camera's view? Yikes.

Next book in the series: Justice for Corrie

Cruz Livingston is a FBI agent, undercover with a dangerous motorcycle gang. Mickie Kaiser is a big sister desperate enough to do anything to save her little sister from the homicidal biker she's fallen in love with -- even try to infiltrate the motorcycle gang herself. Cruz gets to know Mickie while assigned by the gang to keep her occupied and away form her sister, but ends up walking a fine line, trying to protect her from getting herself killed while trying to save her sister. They're falling in love, but can their love survive his lies?

I've actually read the rest of the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes series, so I've "met" Cruz and Mickie in the other books. However, even knowing how their story ends didn't keep me from wanting to read it for myself. Susan Stoker is master at writing romances about military, police, and other first responders, and this book is no different. She gives us an in-depth look at both Mickie and Cruz, digging into their psyches to find out not only what they were doing, but how it made them feel. It's a great novel and a great addition to the series.

Another great story from Susan Stoker in the Texas Hero's series. We met Cruz in book 1 as an FBI agent he has been tasked to go undercover as "smoke" to infiltrate an MC group. Once in amongst the club he is tasked with keeping the sister of the presidents new side piece Angel away from club business. The sister turns out to be the heroine Mickie.

The danger comes when Cruz meets Mickie as himself so he now has to try and keep his two personas separate even though in reality they bleed together. The MC story line felt a little darker than book 1 and the Author portrayed the conflict of emotions in Cruz well. The relationship between sister Mickie and Angel was also a heartbreaking one watching it slowly break down.

The big showdown at the end of the book was an explosive one in so many ways! The plan doesn't go the way it was supposed to and Cruz's double life is exposed to Mickie right in the thick of it. Again a great romantic suspense and a worthy addition to the series.

Great chemistry

An undercover agent who falls for someone loosely connected to the case...Cruz and Mickie meet under false context, but quickly have feelings for each other. The other members of Cruz friends are not heavily in the story as he is undercover. The writing is well done and story is fast paced. The ending is predictable, but enjoyable. Mack and Dax do have a few appearances in the story and I loved seeing Mack and how happy/confident she was with her relationship and that group of friends.

Going undercover within a motorcycle club to locate a drug dealer, Cruz doesn’t expect to meet a sweet woman who makes him hope for a future relationship. Mickie’s sister is involved with the president of a motorcycle club and nothing she does seems to change her mind. When Mickie’s actions overlap Cruz’s undercover role, will he be able to keep her safe and will she forgive his lies? This is a great book.

Mickie’s sister, who is much younger and rebellious, gets involved with a motorcycle club gang leader and is manipulated into a life of drugs and sexual exploitation. While FBI agent Cruz is working undercover, he meets Mickie and attempts to protect her and her sister from her sister’s choices. Each was married before and their marriages ended with dishonesty, so beginning their new relationship with Cruz pretending to be a motorcycle club recruit doesn’t bode well for the pair. This book was plenty steamy, part of that looking at the seedy side of life. I read the ebook. 4/5

Mickie and Cruz made perfect sense! I’m so glad they had each other throughout the whole mess they were both in! Mickie and Cruz were definitely meant to be!
