A warrior who has lost his will to fight. A spy who has lost her dignity. Together, they will save a hero.
Elshander Grant is a warrior who can no longer fight. His grandsire, the great Alexander Grant, has always insisted that he and his cousins are destined to be great warriors for Scotland, but Els no longer believes it's true. Memories from battle plague him every time he raises his sword, and he fears one day he'll hesitate at the wrong moment. He's almost desperate enough to run from his destiny when Joya, the beautiful spy who caught his attention years before, rides back into his life.
Joya has devoted her life to serving the cause of Robert the Bruce, the rightful King of Scotland. It's a lonely existence, one that requires great personal sacrifice at times, but she's never felt ashamed of her decision to serve her country—until she's reunited with her long-lost brother, and he instantly pushes her away for her "unseemly" profession. Lost and alone, separated from the Bruce's other followers, Joya finds her way to Grant Castle, the one place she knows she'll be safe.
When Els promises Joya he'll help her find her brother again, neither of them expect where it will lead: an incident that threatens to tear the Grant family in two, plus the couple's direct involvement in a pivotal battle between the English and Bruce's forces. Soon, the warrior who cannot fight will need to stand up for everything he holds dear, including the woman who's stolen his heart.
Keira Montclair is the pen name of an author who lives in South Carolina with her husband. She writes fast-paced historical romance, often with children as secondary characters.
If she’s not writing, she prefers to spend time with her grandchildren. She’s worked as a high school math teacher, a registered nurse, and an office manager. She loves ballet, mathematics, puzzles, learning anything new, and creating new characters for her readers to fall in love with.
She considers her work done well when her readers shed tears over her stories, but there’s always a happy ending! Her bestselling series is a family saga that follows two medieval Scottish clans through three generations and now numbers over fifty books.
Els and Joya's story was a great read. Els is dealing with some haunting demons from his past. She too is dealing with the past. I loved Alex Grant, Alashander Grant, Dyna and Derric were a hoot! I look forward to the next story in the series.
Step into a time of unrest in Scotland, where the English were hated and there were brave warriors and clans that took up the fight. I always look forward to Keira's stories because she never fails to pull you right into the minds and feelings of the characters and the surroundings. The Grant cousins, The Highland Swords.. Els, Alasdair and Alick had all been born on the same day, at the same time and believed to be fated to fight for Scotland and had been bestowed with special abilities to help them. But Els had begun to fear battle after the enemy had almost gotten the best of him and he felt the magic they had felt before was gone. But then he finds Joya, a spy for the Bruce who he had met a few years back, who had made an impression on him. She is searching for her brother, who had almost shunned her for what she was doing and she asks Els to help her. The journey begins with both being challenged and the hope of a happy ending will be hard won.
Another fun quick read about a member of the Grant family. Sometimes I think I'm mostly here for cameos of the original characters. Els dealing with trauma from battle was a nice way to mix it up from the usual strong/fierce warrior trope. Joya was cool too. Not sure how I feel about some of the other plot elements.
The Scot's Spy Highland Swords #2 Keira Montclair ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Elshander Grant has not had it easy. He is a warrior, but no longer can fight. The Great Alexander Grant is his grandfather and has always insisted that his cousins and himself are destined to be great warriors. Else however no longer believes this is true. Every time he raises his sword, memories of battle relentlessly plague him and he fears he will one day make a mistake. He is so desperate that he is ready to run from his destiny when Joya, a beautiful spy who caught his eye many years before once again rides back into his life.
Joya is almost fearless and has devoted her life to serve the cause of Robert the Bruce who is the rightful king of Scotland. She is a very lonely lady who makes great personal sacrifices, but never ever has she felt shame at making the decision to serve her country. Then all of a sudden she is reunited with her brother who has been lost to her for years, but he pushes her away hurting her all because he feels she has an unseemly profession. Now she is lost and so alone, separated from the Bruce's other followers when she finds her way to Grant Castle, the one place she knows she'll be very safe.
Then Els promises Joya that he will help her find her brother again, but neither of them expected where it would lead. To an incident that will threaten to tear the grant family apart. The couple also has direct involvement in a battle between the English and the Bruce's forces. Now is the time that Els must fight his demons and stand up for everything he holds dear and that includes Joya the lady who has stolen his heart.
Keira Montclair is brilliant. I absolutely adore her books. They are always rich with historical facts and the two main characters could not be matched any better. I was definitely rooting for this couple and hoping that Els would be able to put his fears aside and fight for what he holds dear. Ms. Montclair you have written a book that is worthy of more then the five stars and I feel so privileged that I was able to read this masterpiece.
What a wonderful book! Keira Montclair has a way of writing that puts you smack dab in the middle of everything going on in the Highland World.
Elshander Grant's Grandsire was the famous warrior, Alexander Grant & it was expected that Els & his cousins would be great warriors as their Grandsire expected of them. However; Els did not believe that any longer - memories of battle persist every time he takes his sword up in defense & he is afraid his fears may cause hesitation in battle may mean his death. Then Joya comes back in to his life. He met her three years ago in Berwick & the magic he felt then is still there - could he leave with her to achieve happiness?
Joya is a spy for Robert the Bruce & has sacrificed any personal life dreams she many have had to dedicate herself to the true King of Scotland. She had met Els while spying in Berwick & was attracted to him but then they were separated & she left with some men who were loyal to Bruce to search further for Els but no success. Eventually, in their travels, she was drawn away from the group & two Englishmen captured her - luckily she managed to escape their captivity & the only thing she knew to do was head north toward Grant land where she knew she would be safe.
Els & Joya have a wonderful, emotional relationship that includes something that could tear the Grant family in two, a battle between Bruce's & English forces with them in the middle of it. Will Els, the warrior, be able to pick up a sword to defend all he holds close & the woman who has won his heart? Thank you Keira Montclair for another fantastic Grant family book!
I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
I must admit I had a hard time liking the h. She came across as a lose women and I like my h's inexperienced. But, when her story unfolds you understand some things were not of her choosing or making.
I have read the whole series and must admit having the character's from the previous stories make many appearances was like going to your favorite family reunion! Don't even get me started about the great Alexander Grant, oh he will always have a place in my heart! Now we get introduced to his great grandson John, who is really a mini me for Alexander. This little two year old will steal your heart so be warned.
This is what I always feel a Clan should look this with all members of the family acting as one for the protection of the clan. This story has many layers to it. The fight scenes felt I was up in the trees watching it all unfold. This is a very suspenseful story and had many aspects I was truly surprised. We are treated to feeling of family, betrayal, suspense, twits, some violence and many villains that will keep you reading.
There is romance, and lovemaking outside of marriage, heat level 3 out of 5. It was filled with passion and you will feel a connection to this couple. Our H has doubts about his bravery and if he will freeze in battle. You will feel his pain and I loved how he talked about it, which made him feel more human. The h is brave and has been forced to make it on her own. She doesn't feel she is deserving of the Grant Clan.
We have no cheating, honest dialogue, no cliffhanger for our couple, HEA, romance and a tad of spice. There is a small touch of something supernatural going on with the cousins. it is threaded throughout the series and makes waiting for the next book more exciting.
I received an advanced copy, all opinions are my own and voluntarily given. I highly recommend this author, this story and series. (ljb)
This story revolves around Elshander and Joya who had met before but come across each other in a crisis revolving the assassination of King Davies mistress traveling to see him. it's a Wonderful novel, 2nd in the Highland Storms Series. Three babies, born at the same time, on the same day to Grant Mothers, in the same castle. Alex Grant, the Patriarch of th Grant Clan knew those 3 grandchildren would be very special in the future of Scotland. The 3 cousins were Alasdare, Elshander and the 3rd was Alasdair. Their other cousin Dyna was a complement to the 3 cousins with her accurate Archery and also as being a seer. Keira Montclair is a talented storyteller who has brought stories that are poinant, family of good, honourable, brave people who works hard together to protect each other and those in need. The Clans Grant and Ramsey fights not only for the rights of people, women and children included, but they all fight for the freedom of the Scottish people. You must read this novel, and if you haven't then go back to the beginning and read all of the Grant and Ramsey Clan books. They are intertwined through marriage.
This is the second book in a series of Alexander Grants grandsons, I was given this ebook for honest review,in my opinion I enjoyed this story as much as the first book. The story centers around Elshander Grant and Joya, they meet in the first book, El's doesn't want to fight anymore, fears he will make a mistake and the results would be bad. Joya is a spy for Robert the. Bruce. It has been three years since she has seen the Grant cousins, she finds her brother and he doesn't want anything to do with her because she is a spy,she has lost track of her fellow spies so alone she finds her way to the Grant castle where she will be safe. The sparks are still there between El's and Joya ,he agrees to help her find her brother again, I enjoyed their adventures together, the complete story is wonderful.I'm looking forward to read the next book in the series,Keira books are very good keeps you turning the pages to find out what's next.I gave it a 5and I think you will agree with me,fabulous, interesting book
The Scot's Spy by Keira Montclair Highland Swords Series Book Two Elshander “Els” Grant, son of Jamie and Gracie, couldn't get the woman he met three years ago out of his head. She'd helped them...but then disappeared. Until now. And right near Grand land.
Joya Corbett's life hadn't been easy, but at least she had a purpose. She was a spy for Robert the Bruce. She didn't regret any of what she did to help her beloved Scotland and king. But when she escaped her English captors...getting to Grant land was all she could do. Finding the man she'd met and never forgot about to help her.
Elshander, Alasdair, and Alick were all born on the same evening. Grandsons of the great Alex Grant. Along with their younger cousin Dyna...they have a unique gift. Their swords are most powerful when they are fighting as a team. Wonderful series with a touch of mystical in it. **Sexual content https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
The Scot's Spy, 2nd book in the Highland Swords series, about Elshander Grant and Joya, a spy for Robert the Bruce. I loved this book, from beginning to the last type-written word.
We start out learning Joya's story, Elshander and Joya helping each other, getting to know each other after being strongly attracted to each other 3 years before and not forgetting each other and their dangerous journey to love. Just LOVE the Grant family again coming together, supporting each other, facing whoever tries to mess with them head on and always fighting for Scotland. And Alexander Grant -- OMGosh, timeless, ageless, and I think I fell for him all over again in this book, as well as his mini-me great grandson!
Thank you Keira Montclair for another wonderful book!! And the epilogue, oh my heart! I can't wait for the next book!
These books truly don't ever disappoint. The swrirs is long running and that is a wonderful thing. You become attached to the characters and their families. On that note, when a series spans decades, you lose some.of those beloved characters. That part has been hard, but also makes it more real. In The Scot's Spy, we have one of the Highland Sword cousins, Els, amd Joya, the spy. A few years have passed since they 1st encountered each other, but their memory of that encounter had not dimmed. They have many hurdles to overcome, but they are hard-headed Scots, so what is a few hurdles? Alex Grant is the best part of the book, but that is all I will say about that. This swries and all the subsequent series involving the Grants and the Ramseys are wonderful and best read in chronological order.
This is the second book in the series and the story of Els and Joya. I was so excited when I found out that their story was the basis for this book. If you are a fan of Kiera's books then you probably know this is the second generation of cousins and the third generation of Grant warriors. I am enjoying this generation as much as their parents stories. There is something special and unique about this group of cousins. And with the help of their grandfather as the series continues we will find out this generation of Grants is capable of.
The Scot's Spy is another hit out of the ballpark for Keira
Keira gives you a little of everything in this beautiful story for Alexander Grants grandson. And a perfect story for glimpses into the last where it you have not read their story you are wanting to go back and read them. The intrigue level is perfect with romance and a little sadness weaves into their lives. Just amazing and can not wait for the next chapter in this family.
Els and Joya. Els is one of three male cousins from the Grant clan born on the same day at the same time. Joya is a spy working for Robert the Bruce in support of Scotland. They met once before in their past and made an impression on each other but it didn’t go anywhere until Joya shows up on Grant land looking for help from Els to find her brother. This story is full of action, kidnapping, suspense and love and it is worth reading. .
Raped, beaten and left for dead, Joya is found by Robert the Bruce, nursed back to health and becomes a spy for the Scots! She meets and helps the Grant Clan in Berwick and moves on. But she never forgets Elshander Grant and he doesn't forget her either. They meet again three years later and their story begins. I'm so in love with this series. Can't wait to start the next one.
A very enjoyable second book in this series. This time the story focuses on Els and Joya. They met briefly in the first book when she helped the Grants and Emmalin in Berwick. The story continues the Scottish struggle against the English but Joya’s spying skills come in handy when recovering a kidnap victim. We get to spend time with the other clan members including the legend himself, Alexander Grant. They are all still mystified by the reaction their swords have together.
Wow, just wow! What a great addition to this series and the whole Grant highlander books! Anything with Alexander Grant in it is just a bonus and a two year old toddler who proclaims himself to be Alexander Grant is too precious for words! A stand alone novel, but read together it's a great read! Don't miss this one!
What can I say. Another fabulous book by Keira Montclair I love her stories about the Clan Grant I have reas every single one of her books and never get tied of reading them. The Scots Spy was wonderful as usual. Please don’t miss your chance to read this book. Thank you Keira.and all of you please stay safe
Wonderful — Ms Keira’s stories are always enjoyable
Clan Grant does it again. I simply love Alex Grant. Sad about the clan losses that are being revealed. Specifically, Maddie & Quade. Would love to ‘see’ Logan and Gwyneth appear in the future stories. (Gwyneth is my hero.) Maybe some war dogs? We’ve got the war horses....
Another wonderful read from the world of the Grants
I found this story hard to sink into at first but honestly that could have been a side effect of the chaos of my personal life while I was reading it. Once I got into the story I couldn’t put it down! Good story line, characters, and a big dose of nostalgia for the fans of Alex Grant!
I knew before I finished the First Book who was going to be in the 2nd Book and now the 3rd Book I know! I just can’t wait for it to be released!!! I love this story so much! While waiting for the next book I shall start at the very beginning! Alex and Maddie 💜💜💜💜💜
Wow I don't know why but I was not expecting to like this one all that much, but I loved it. I think the combination of female empowerment and the adorable children within this book just made my heart happy. I'm wondering if Dyna and Derric will have a book together because I ship it. Absolutely great and such a pleasant surprise.
Men these days don't understand how to woo a woman. Like they do in these romances especially the Scott's from the highlands. Sometimes I wish I could of grown up during those times. Then I wouldn't know what it's like to miss AIR conditioning during the Aftermath of a strong HER-ricaine named SALLY .Ya know. I LOVED the book tho.
Another great story that I couldn't put down. Can't wait for the rest. These stories are very special in so many ways. And personally Robert The Bruce is my all time favorite.
As always a wonderful well-written book. She does such a great job describing characters emotions. You really feel like you're right there with them. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next edition of the Highland Swords.
The same always applies when reading Ms. Montclair's books, a great can't put it down storyline with great characters. It is always entertaining and leaves you wanting the next book.
Great story very well paced like all her books thoroughly enjoyed it. Couldn't put it do if you like historical fiction you will enjoy this book. Can be read as standalone
I just love this series, these cousins are just wonderful and I am enjoying seeing them all find love like there parents and grandparents have i can’t wait to read the next book
