Born in the Sunshine State of Florida, but of both British and Nordic descent, Scarlett Osborne grew up reading historical romances from the land of her ancestors. An avid reader and fan of the outdoors, Scarlett spends her free time either reading or going on long horseback rides along with her two sons.
Get lost in a land of enchantment, where adventure and love await around every corner...Scarlett hopes that through her heroes, you too will get to live a whirlwind romance in the Regency era, when fairytales were real and all dreams possible!
I had trouble connecting to both the hero and the heroine. It was an ok book with a mystery tied into the love story. I did not feel drawn to the story and thought it lagged a bit. I would not reread it.
Blackmail💀, Crime🔫🔪, Mystery, Intrigue, and an Adult Regency Romance💕!
When Catherine's brother, Viscount Robert Bolmont, is imprisoned for being part of a North London Crime Syndicate and loses everything, she must go live with her Aunt Cornelia and her cousin, Edmund. Edmund is the young Viscount of Featherstone, and he has several unmarried friends that are Noblemen, too. Robert Connolly🐺, Baron Ramshay, has always been enthralled by Catherine💃💋, but he has terrible debts he is trying to pay off, thanks to his late father's gambling problems. He doesn't feel he has the right to offer for her hand.
Catherine is caught in another mess with a man deeply in debt!
ARC Received from Bookfunnel🌀 I also got this book from Amazon Free. Opinions Expressed here are my own.
I loved this exciting book with a great story and plot! It's a bit long, but there is a lot happening throughout the book. There were no dead spots! You won't be skipping pages with this great read!
What do you get when you have a story filled with suspense, intrigue, blackmail, illegal activities, the Seven Dials district, as well as passion and love? An absolutely fantastic story, that's what!!!!
Catherine Barnet loses everything when her brother, Robert, is thrown in Newgate prison and she struggles with the shame of it all. She moves in with her aunt and cousin Edmund who vows to protect her.
Edmund's best friend, Patrick Conolly, Baron of Ramshay, has long had his eye on Catherine but has always been too shy to approach her. It's just as well, since he doesn't want her to know that he's having to pay for the gambling debts his father left behind after his death. Now he has other evil men coming to his house, demanding more money.
Catherine, who appears very meek at first, finally shows a backbone and is willing to risk anything to help Patrick find out who is after him. It's page after page of intrigue and non stop action, I couldn't put the book down until I'd finished it!
I was given an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is about a sister who is trying to recover from the shame and abusive nature of her brother and Patrick who has loved her from afar. He has his own problems and she thinks he's as criminal as her brother. This book was ok but kind of slow for me.
Okay book. Kinda drags on. Half this book is about Catherine and Patrick. The other half is about Patrick finding these men who are asking him for money.
Against my better judgment, I chose to read and review Scarlett Osborne's "Rescued by a Wicked Baron" even though I did not like the author's first book, which I found to be historically inaccurate with a fairly ridiculous plot. Unfortunately, the same problems that were present in that first book are once again present in this one. I found this book to be riddled with historical inaccuracies, as well as an outlandish plot and unintelligent, unlikable characters.
As I noted in my review of the author's previous book, details are incredibly important in a historical novel, and the author seems to get a lot of details about early 19th century England mixed up. For example, hotels and hotel bars didn't exist in the early 19th century as she seems to have been envisioning them. There were lodging houses and coaching inns, but not hotels, as such, prior to the mid-19th century. Patrick and his friends would likely have gone to a gentleman's club like Brooks or White's to play cards and drink, not to a hotel bar.
Second, and perhaps even more importantly, is that the author doesn't seem to have done adequate research on England's early 19th century justice system or how criminal law would have applied to members of the peerage. The exact year when this story is supposed to be taking place is unclear, but if it is prior to 1841 (which seems probable) and it was Robert's first offense, he likely could have claimed "privilege of peerage" to escape punishment for his crimes since he wasn't being accused of murder or treason. There still would have been a scandal, I'm sure, but he wouldn't have gone to jail and his creditors couldn't have taken his lands as repayment for his debts.
In addition, when Catherine, her aunt, and her cousin Edmund attended a ball, the author repeatedly made reference to their "table," as if they had assigned seating and stayed there for the duration of the evening. That would not have been the case since the main purpose of such a social event was for debutantes on the "Marriage Mart" to mingle with eligible gentlemen in order to make a match. They would have been in the ballroom and dancing for most of the evening, socializing with different people, not sitting at a table with the same group of acquaintances the whole time. They only would have sat at a table during supper, which was a relatively brief part of the overall event. Finding a partner for the supper dance and the meal to follow was a big deal for debutantes because it allowed them to spend extra time with a prospective suitor.
Aside from these (and other) historical inaccuracies, I had a number of problems with the plot and characters of this book. First, the "heroine," Catherine, must have been really pretty, or something, to have not one but two gentlemen so interested in her, because not only is her family embroiled in scandal, she has no dowry and zero personality to go along with it. All Catherine ever seems to do is hide in her room and mope. Occasionally she embroiders, and she "diarizes," which apparently involves writing about her daily activities and feelings. I can't imagine that anything she writes about would be very interesting since she doesn't really do anything interesting!
As for our "hero," Patrick, Lord Ramshay, the author herself described him several times as a "buffoon" and I would have to agree. For example, on a couple of occasions he attempts to confront his blackmailers, by himself, armed only with a one-shot pistol. For some reason he seems to think that they will back down based solely on his waving a pistol around and making some empty threats. Even if he had managed to shoot one of his blackmailers, the others could have overpowered him easily before he could even attempt to reload his pistol. Also, if these blackmailers were really as dangerous as described, what would a few threats from Patrick mean to them?
Regarding the story itself, there were so many things that didn't make sense to me, but I will just note a few of them here. *Where does Lord Ramshay keep getting the money to pay those extravagant bribes for information as he's trying to track down who is behind the plot against him? He himself said that paying the most recent blackmail demand was going to wipe out his supply of cash, and he wouldn't even be able to pay his servants until the next rents came in. *Why wouldn't Edmund and Catherine hire Bow Street to look for Patrick, or at least take a couple of nice, strong footmen along with them on their little escapade? It's frankly a miracle that the two of them didn't get both themselves and Patrick seriously hurt or killed. For heaven's sake, they took a hammer and knocked down a wall to get into a warehouse at the docks! How did no one see or hear them or question what they were doing? *The "evidence" that Catherine and Edmund followed to find Patrick was circumstantial, at best, and never should have actually led them to him. For example, they found a pile of ropes in a warehouse and somehow "just knew" that meant that Patrick had been held hostage there. REALLY? Because there was rope in a building at the docks where rope might reasonably be stored for use aboard a ship?
Finally, in general this was not a particularly well-written book. The author has a very repetitious writing style that became incredibly annoying to me by the end of the book. There were also a lot of typos and words misused, among other problems.
Based on all of the above, I cannot recommend this book.

Rescued by a Wicked Baron A Steamy Historical Regency Romance Novel
This is a very good and well written story about love betrayal and forgiveness.Catherine is humiliated because her brother was put in prison but then she fell in love with Patrick the Baron of Ramshay but lost trust because she finds he is involved with criminals There are twists and turns and suspense and the truth comes out. This is a very good plot and the characters are realistic and determined The extended epilogue puts everything together A very good read
What a great book! Mystery, intrigue, danger, love and more love. This book has everything and the characters were great and written very well. The storyline was an adventure and you didn't know what was going to happen next. I thoroughly enjoyed this and it had all the ingredients I love in a book - the mystery, the danger, the love, and a little steam. Perfect.
To losing they home because of gambling to living with her aunt. To finding out that the man she dance with a few years ago was the man who help her over come tragedy. To help bring down a very bad person to see her get married to the man she loved. To being there for her brother when he got out of prison.
Received a free copy. Story title 'rescued by wicked baron' doesn't suit the story at all. The hero 'Patrick' is not wicked at all. He is sweet and had loved the heroine Catherine from far for 3 years. Heroine of course was not aware of the affection and thought he is just a buffoon. And the brother is not that abusive as the description says. So overall when I started the book, it was with wrong impression I started. But what a surprise it was. Although I felt the relationship between the H and h, didn't feel like real, I mean the girl didn't interact with the hero that much but was suddenly she is in love with him. And she was quick to judge him. That i Didn't like, but in this instance, it was understandable because of what she went through because of her brother.
The beginning of the story I felt that Catherine was full of self pity, but I must say in the end she was strong and fought for her love.
It's good attempt on describing the crime syndicate. I had to wonder if the so called debts are even real. I mean people who owed them are dead so can't verify. The documents can he forged. and the living relations has to settle them. Scary to think of like that happening now.
ONE SPINNING ADVENTURE!!! Off the hook! Man, I love this little jewel. This baby is so freaking awesome, I'm at a loss for words. Never fear, I'll find 'em. Scarlett's imagination is astonishing and vast. The way she builds up her characters and the scenes are something to behold. Combating all the trials and tribulations along with a horde of twists and turns bring this baby together impeccably. Struggling through contention, abuse and hostilities, striving for safety that seems so out of reach. A multitude of surprising events make for one enjoyable experience. The characters and their personalities are so realistic and believable it feels like you can just reach out and touch them. The scenes are described so beautifully you have no trouble picturing it in your mind's eye as each scenario plays out smoothly. Remarkable job Scarlett, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
This is the story of Patrick and Catherine. The action in this story never stops. One thing after another keeps happening throughout. There is a lot of suspense and mystery. There is also a trust issue in this story. Always get to to the truth before you mistrust someone. There are other important secondary characters in this story. I don't want to reveal any spoilers, that's how good this story is. You must read it to get the full affect. Just know that it is well written and keeps you guessing until almost the end. There is also a love story here among all the action that takes place. Can't wait for the next book by Scarlett Osborne.
I liked that Patrick and Catherine both had similar past baggage to bond over and bring them closer. I was disappointed when Catherine jumped to the wrong conclusions about Patrick. Smh! I was so glad Edmund and Catherine had their talk and told each other what they knew of Patrick's problems and Catherine saw the truth! When other truths come to light about the Ghost it is found out that jealousy and rivalry have fueled evil to such great lengths. Goid resolutions and a twist with Edmund at the end. Lol.
I loved the mystery surrounding the heroine and her brother. Why did he suddenly turn on her? And her cousin and his friends. Were they in on the dangerous dealings of her brother? I thought I had it figured out but it was only the last couple of chapters that everything fell into place. Very satisfying ending, a HEA well deserved! A good, clean romance with more than a hint of danger.
Chuck full of goodies! Yes, I judged this book by its cover I knew when I saw it I just had to read this one. It is so good chuck full of suspense, intrigue, danger, with some blackmail it is non-stop! There are great characters too! The author has done a fantastic job of making the story believable. This really is a must read book that you will come back to over and over again. Do I recommend? You bet I do.
Wow. This story is extremely wonderful. Was hooked from the prologue - best one I have read. A story of close friends with different nobility ranks, who would help each other at every turn. Danger, mystery, and suspense at every page. Betrayal, greed, wickedness, loyalty, adventure, friendship, and romance abound. Fantastic. Very well written with fully developed and intriguing characters. Fast paced. A must read.
This was a delightful read which included mystery and unusual twists and turns. A young man being led astray and ending up a new gate prison leaving his sister alone to answer to the world. Her family is dichotomy of trying to help her as well as wondering if she wasn’t part of the whole situation. Finally coming together for an unusual ending. What really makes it a five star is the epilogue.
Oh wow! Talk about intriguing storyline,so exciting and dangerous. What a sad start for Catherine, losing her home and brother to prison. She finds love in her Cousins friend Lord Patrick who will do anything to help her and find who is threatening him.wonderful characters! Another absolutely amazing book!
I really enjoyed this story. The trials that Patrick and Catherine faced brought them a stronger love. The story was intriguing and interesting and had a way of keeping you glued to the book watching for the next little twist in their lives. So sorry for them that the one person they thought was a good friend and person wasn't.
I loved this. I found the storyline logical and moving. The characters were full of life and realistic. There were surprising twists and turns in the story I found surprising. The extended epilogue was unexpected and tied up all the loose ends. I really enjoyed reading this.
I enjoyed this book - it was fast paced with well drawn characters. A good whodunit with lots of twists and turns. It is also a good historical novel showing the class system in England even among the peers. I recommend the book and the author and am looking forward to reading the next one!
