It uses so many advanced words, and so many non-standard words in the HSK3 vocabulary list.
I can't recommend this book for learners because it's just too difficult to work through. Given that that is the premise of the book, its disappointing.
However, the stories are engaging, and you learn a lot about Chinese history with this book

Me lo he fumado en dos dias librazo. Por fin un libro que no es solo para estudiar chino y con historia de verdad.
