Sweet Curves #8

Toffee Apple

Rate this book
Toffee Apples. Hard on the outside, soft in the middle. And as the red-headed chubby child in the family, that’s exactly what I’ve become over the years. Mercilessly teased by my siblings, I found my relief in the library of my high school, overachieving in a bid to win a scholarship to a college far, far away.
And I almost have it. Senior year is almost over, and everything I’ve ever wanted is at my fingertips.
Then I meet him.
Brody Miller.
It starts innocently enough. A short conversation and an exchange of phone numbers. I leave him thinking he won’t call. He belongs on the cover of a romance novel, why would he be interested in me? But he does call. He even asks me out.
When school starts back, I’m delighted to find him standing up the front of my AP Statistics class. Except he’s not a student. He’s here to teach.
Oh no.
I can’t think. I can’t focus. And suddenly I’m failing a class I used to ace. I need help.
Which is exactly what I get when Mr. Miller asks me to stay behind after class to discuss my grades.
He offers to tutor me. Platonically, of course.
I accept. Non-platonically, of course.
Then one thing leads to another and…. I’m not supposed to tell. But it could very well ruin everything we’ve both worked our entire lives to achieve.

Note: Put an apple on the teacher’s desk, because this quick read is very naughty and over-the-top. It’s filled with tension-filled instalove and heated moments between a curvy girl and the hottest nerd you’ve ever seen.

It’s sickeningly sweet and a little angsty, everything I would expect from instalove heavy romance.

Unfortunately it was also juvenile and fragmented. But that didn’t take away from my enjoyment.

Read #2: Still really loved it but maybe not as much as the first time. Downgrading to a 4.5.

Stars: 5
Length: Novella
POV: Dual
Series: Sweet Curves Book 8 (Stand Alone)
Ending: HEA
Re-read? Yes

"She has curves to die for, and I’m smitten, totally in awe—possibly in love—with a girl I spotted in the supermarket."

What can I say? I'm a sucker for a student/teacher love affair. They meet while they are out at the local Trader Joe's during spring break. They have one amazing magical date and the next day, surprise! Brody is Maya's new math teacher. Thankfully there are only a few months until graduation but how to they manage to stay apart until then? What happens to her scholarship to Cornell? Why are her parents so fucking horrible?

I really liked the story, it was right up my alley. Yes, it was absolutely OTT and insta-everything but that's what I read the Sweet Curves series for.

I think this is my favourite of Megan Wade’s books. Slightly forbidden and a little taboo.

Maya never thought a routine grocery run for her stepmother would lead her to the love of her life, but the moment that she turns and sees Brody holding out a toffee apple she is smitten and after they share a night of temptation and passion together she’s his for always, well she thought she was until she walks into her math lesson and sees the new teacher. Knowing that nothing can ever be between them she falls into a depression and starts failing in school. Can she pull it together in time and after she graduates can she have the dream or will her best friend destroy everything for her?

Brody was over the moon he had a dream job and after a visit to the grocery store he even found his dream woman only for the next day it to turn to a nightmare when the girl who stole his heart is actually his star student. Knowing what they have needs to stop not forever though he will never ever let her go. Can he convince her that they are only on pause and can they ignore the temptation of each other?

Loved these characters so much and I hated her friends was so pleased when she was taken down a peg or two. There are parts of this that are a little sad though especially how Maya and her dad interact. Fab read a must from this author and the epilogues are also great. 4.5🌟 read.

WOW.. I actually really enjoyed this one. Color me surprised! This has to be my favorite in the series so far.

Brody (28) sees Maya (18) shopping in a Trader Joe’s and he’s immediately smitten over her. She’s checking out with a bunch of healthy food her stepmother made her buy and when she doesn’t have enough money for everything, she puts back her one sweet treat, the toffee apple. (Yep, that’s where the name comes in) Brody buys it and runs out of the store to give it to her... they exchange phone numbers and he’s already calling her for a date the next day. They spend time at his apartment and while they don’t have full-on sex, they sure get down and dirty.

Of course... Brody ends up being Maya’s new teacher. In high school. 😱 What is it about the fact it’s high school that makes it even more deliciously forbidden? Mmm I love it.

Maya pulls away from Brody but when she starts slacking on her grades and schoolwork because she’s seemingly depressed, he tutors her and tries to help her get grades back up. There is some sexual tension coming right off of those pages. They tried so hard to resist each other. Ughhh man... I was loving it.

There was a bit of drama and the outcome seemed pretty unbelievable but oh well. It’s just a story after all. The main part I loved was the connection between Brody and Maya. I actually felt it more in this story than any of the others before this.

Definitely giving this a 4⭐️

Me gustó Brody y Mila, tenían buena química.

Pretty short and sweet with little steam.

Maya meets her prince charming at the grocery store and doesnt really believe this guy would be intrested in her since she been the chubby girl the joke of many boys from her high school. So she truly didnt believe Brody would even call her. And he does they have a moment and things are looking up for them until Maya walks into her class and finds out Brody is her sub-teacher. At this point she is pushing him away because she doesnt wanna risk him losing his job or worse things. As for Brody he isnt giving up his girl he tells her that when he sees her failing they are on pause but once shes done with school shes his. I love that Brody never gave up and was always making sure his girl graduated and kept her safe from other jerks.

No ow drama but slight Om drama (a boy keeps harrassing her), no cheating, tiny drama, Sexy times, Virgin gal and no manwhore

Loved this taboo OM/YW romance. Maya and Brody had a meet cute over a toffee apple in the grocery store and it was so fun. The chemistry and attraction between them was so hot. They had to be careful about their relationship but once it was out in the open, it was full steam ahead. Loved this series. Great read and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

3.5 stars.
The story was really cute. I liked Brody a lot, he was a sweet and romantic man. And also hot.
Maya was sweet and a bit shy and naive. Mostly, she had the worst luck in the friendship department. That Tamara girl was awful. Even before she betrayed Maya. Brody saw her true nature after only 1 minute of meeting her in class.
Josh was a jerk and potential rapist.
Maya's father was the worst. At one point, I think Maya's stepmother cared about her more than Maya's father. Which is sad.
I'm happy Maya had found Brody. He was so good for her. The only one who loved her unconditionally. Fought for her. Wanted to make her happy. Cared for her future. Wanted the best life for her.

If this book had been any longer than it was it would have been a DNF for me. Soooo many red flags. 🚩🚩🚩

Can we please teach our daughters that to be loved does not mean you need to be possessed by your lover? If the MMC said “my Maya” one more time I was gonna lose it. Let’s promote healthy relationships in literature, not this possessive trash. 👏 He 👏 Doesn’t 👏 Own 👏 You 👏

On Spring Break, Maya Allen is shopping for her spoiled half-siblings that just had to have their organic and vegan healthy foods or they absolutely could not make it through the day. At least this made Maya eager to complete senior year of high school and head off for the furthest college she could find away from home! Her step-mother picks on her constantly about her rounded appearance and she is getting tired of it. Never mind that Maya’s mom had curves too! Maya still missed her mom’s laughter and hugs which have been missing for 10 years now. With a full scholarship to Cornell, she’ll find her dreams again as she leaves California behind and heads to New York. And as she shopped, she didn’t notice the hot guy appreciating her curves and her auburn hair. He gets in line behind her. With all the expensive health food she bought, the total was a little over the cash she had, so she offered to put back the toffee apple. Brody Miller instead paid for it and ran after her with the treat. She laughed and said her mom told her to never take candy from a stranger – so he asked for her name and number to make it okay, and he walks her to her car to load her groceries for her.

Maya keeps thinking this is a cruel joke that a model-hot, muscled, gorgeous guy is hitting on her! This is the kind of joke that Josh Parker, the captain of the lacrosse team, would definitely pull. Her phone rings with the Wizard of Oz ringtone, and he smiles, immediately understanding that it’s her step-mother, the “wicked witch”.

To Maya’s surprise, Brody calls and invites her to meet for dessert. He is considerate and caring, and everything she could want. Maya knows that it happened way too fast, but she's sure that she is in love with Brody and he had decided already that he felt that way about her. But when she steps into her statistics classroom after the Spring break, she finds out that Brody is her new teacher and her heart breaks. Both Brody and Maya know that they can’t be together now. Despite his saying they only have a two-month wait until graduation, Maya feels it’s over and gives up on her spotless classwork that has earned her the Cornell scholarship. If her grades fall, which has already started, she’ll lose everything she worked for – just as she has already lost what she wanted most of all. Is it truly over?

This was an awesome story with amazing characters. The story line is not difficult to figure out, but there will be some twists in there that may surprise the reader. The author does an excellent job at conveying the characters’ emotions. The reader will experience the depth of both Maya’s and Brody’s despair when they realized they were student/teacher and had to break off any relationship. This story has all the feels and I highly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed!

Maya is literally the red headed step child.
Her mother died when she was nine and she is the spitting image of her. Her father totally ignored her it is to painful I guess to look at her, he married right away to a woman who is the exact opposite of his deceased wife. Chantelle is a heath nut she does not allow sugar or carbs in tne house and treats Maya as her personal slave.
Maya is hell bent on leaving LA behind and she received a early acceptance to Cornells math program she is half way out the door. That is until she meets her soul mate in the grocery store parking lot. Brody Miller is new from Chicago just accepted a job at a private school teaching math. But the day he meets the curvaceous beauty in the grocery store parking lot with a candied apple as an opening his life was complete.
Maya is on spring break.
But after a wonderful experience with her new boyfriend Brody she had s new pep in her step tje first day back at school for the last two months of her senior year. Josh Parker is a thorn in her sode dated back two years when his cruel joke broke her spirits. Tamara is her competive so called only friend. She is a mean evil witch with a mean streak just waiting in the shadows.
Turns out her step falters a bit when the new math teacher walks in the room.
Oops.
A whole month of tears snd avoiding Brody broke her heart, mind, body and soul. Her grades dropped, Josh won't leave her alone and Tamara is gloating.
When Brody has had enough of the silence and watching the love of his life fail all het classes he syeps up and takes control never giving up on them waiting for graduation to claim his Maya. But prom rolls around and Josh gets s little forceful and demanding. When he attacks Maya in the school parking lot Brody losses his control. Maya is afraid for his job.
Now they have a dilemma but waiting is no longer an option.
So they give in to the carnal needs.
Prom? Brody goes all out.
The day after?
Tamara gets revenge for losing tne valedictorian spot to Maya.
Anger parents, smug Josh, smirking Tamara and a disappointed principal all out side Brodys apartment.
OVER KILL and OVERLY DRAMATIC.
Where do they go from here?
Well their story is just bringing all the way across the country. From L.A to NY. Candied Apple and all.

Sticky sweet

This book was about Maya and Brody. Maya is an 18 year-old high school student in California, busting to graduate and get out of her unhappy home. She has been accepted into Cornell in New York on a full scholarship, so things are already starting to look up for her.

Maya’s Mum passed away when she was just a young girl, and she’s missing the close connection they had - and one her own father is trying to forget and ignore. On top of that, her demanding step-mother and siblings are more than she can (or should have to) handle.

Brody spots her at the supermarket and admires her form. He really appreciates her curves and is absolutely smitten by her! She is a little short on cash for her purchases and he asks for the toffee apple to be put onto his tab. So sweet! He hands it over to her, and after a brief chat, walks her to her car.

A swift dinner/dessert invitation has all sorts of possibilities swirling around their heads. As she arrives at his apartment door, he has the sweetest welcome… swoon! They learn more about each other, in more ways than one, and just know that they have something special. Their instalove attraction, their shared love for everything mathematical, is crazy wonderful, as they put it. It’s kismet!

Problems do however arise, on several fronts. Other people cause a lot of drama, some they’ve created themselves too, unknowingly to start off with… as a consequence, they’re ‘just on pause’ for the time being. But can two people who are SO drawn to each other keep apart for just a short while? And without being caught? Will they get their deserved happily ever after? Read it to find out!

(P.S.) I don’t eat toffee apples, but I can assure you that I’ll smile each and every time I see one now!

3.5 stars Maya is at the grocery store. Maya is doing her shopping as she comes across taffy apples. She picked up one she purchases it with the rest of her groceries at her stepmom and sister to the store for. As she is leaving Brody notices her and purchases the taffy Apple that puts her over budget. Maya is on spring break. She is 18 and is still in high school. Brody looks younger than his age. Brody is roughly around 28 so there is a 10 year difference. They don’t know this until school resumes and he is the new math teacher because the current one retired. This is now a big giant predicament is why I call it a borderline taboo. They try to avoid each other as much as possible but he is her teacher he did not choose and could not choose to have her go to a different class. She is a numbers person and has already won a scholarship to go to Cornell. Mýa goes into this depressive state and now she is failing.. Brody has taken it upon his self to talk to all her teachers and see what she needs in order to graduate with honors in order to maintain and keep her scholarship. Meanwhile back at the ranch Josh, the school jock has been after her cents basically sophomore year. Bad pranks herding pranks and all of a sudden he supposedly attracted to her even though he calls her vicious names. So this is where the adventure starts and comes to a very convoluted screeching halt. The story is short. Again depending on your perception and opinion, it’s a borderline taboo. The basis of the story is a great subject. It’s in love all that other stuff. Read it and see if you agree.

I loved this story. It was enjoyable and entertaining. The characters were interesting and relatable. The way they met and then started a relationship was so sweet.

Maya is ready to finish her senior year of high school and go far, far away to college. She is tired of being an outsider in her own home. During Spring Break, Maya is out and meets Brody. They chat and exchange phone numbers. She is sure that he won't call and is pleasantly surprised when he does and actually wants to get together. Maya knows that it's too fast, but she's sure that she is in love with Brody. When she goes back to school after the break she finds out that Brody is her new teacher and her heart breaks. Maya knows that there's no way they can be together now.

Brody was all-in immediately and he was impressive with the way he was determined to figure out a way for them to be together. Maya was lucky that he was so sure of her, especially with how she acted afterward. I wanted to smack her in the head. It did make me sad that her dad treated her the way he did, but I liked that her stepmom stepped up. Their happy ever after made me smile. I recommend reading this book.

This is another short, ARC book by Megan Wade
It was a very good and well written book to read about a young, curvy woman, and an older guy.
Maya, whose step mother and her children away pick on her and even her classmates. She hides herself in her room and library and study her heart out to get to the college of her dreams, to get away from her family and everyone who teased her. With several months left in high school she meets the most gorgeous man she ever saw. They exchange cell numbers even though she knew he would never call, but to her surprise he does. When Maya enter her class after spring brake, she sees this gorgeous guy, but not as a student but as a teacher.
Brody spotted a beautiful, curvy young woman and needed to know her. He exchange cell number, had dinner together, but when he enter a classroom to teach a class, at the end of spring brake, Brody was surprise to sees the one person he cannot get out of his mine, Maya. Now how is Brody and Maya going to handle seeing each other everyday, without people finding out.
I am volunteering to leave a review for a ARC of this book.

I received a copy from BookSprout; this is my honest review
-Short and sweet, with a bit of drama from the friends and family's part.
-I loved the way they met at the grocery store and how Brody kept giving Maya a toffee apple as a reminder of that. Really sweet.
-I didn't think, like many reviewers and Maya too, that her stepmother cared for her. I think she used her as much as she could. I can understand the father not looking at her because she looks just like her mother did but you'd think after 10 years he'd get over it. He had another wife standing right there and made other babies.
-I like the dimension the story went about, the teaching, the tutoring, etc. I loved the end and the epilogue too. Dual POV, which I like very much.
-The no safe bedroom scene was incredibly stupid, especially for a first time. They should have been better prepared.
-What was unbelievable were the parts when 1. people wanted to call the police; 2. Everyone was looking for Maya (why, exactly?); 3. She was sent to her bedroom and her phone was confiscated!!! Excuse me? One star off. She says it a few times: "I'm legally an adult now."

Maya is a curvy 18 year old high school senior who meets a man, Brody, in the grocery store. He is immediately smitten with her and he follows her u7ntil they exchange numbers. This leads to a torrid make-out session over the weekend that promises more. When Maya walks in to her AP Statistics class on Monday, Brody is standing there as her teacher. The struggle with how to handle the situation, but on prom night, where Maya does not have a date, they get together and thing get intimate as she spends the night. She realizes that she has missed multiple calls and texts overnight, and as she leaves they are caught by the school principal, her friends, and her parents. Since she is an adult and she loves Brody, they leave together for her collage. The ending has her reconciling with her parents and a great HEA.
Another fantastic BBW story with a pleasant ending that makes the reader feel happy. All of Megan Wade’s Sweet Curves series are uplifting and inspiring, so you should not miss this one.

Sweet, love at first sight story in which a curvy girl, Maya, is at a store, shopping for the dietary requirements of her step mother and step siblings. She spots a delectable, sweet toffee apple and cannot resist adding it to her shopping cart. Meanwhile, Brody, our hot, older man, is attracted to her curves and gets in line behind her so he can talk to her. When it turns out she is short of cash for her total, she puts back the apple. Brody decides to buy it and give it to her. This is just the beginning. As they get to know each other, it becomes clear that our girl has some issues from something unkind in her past. This was a really well written book that takes a stand on issues that plague big girls and wraps it up in a romance with a happily ever after...after the requisite bumps in the road on the way. I enjoy the way Ms. Wade covers the whole thing and as always, I will looks forward to her next book.

First things first; I really like the cover of this book!
Toffee apple is book eight in the sweet curves series. This story is short, fast paced and an enjoyable read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters likeable and the storyline enjoyable. Whilst shopping for her stepfamily’s grocery’s Maya meets Brody. From the moment Brody sees Maya, he wants her. What they don’t know is that things are going to kick off.
The chemistry between Maya and Brody is clear to see and I loved them together. They made a cute couple.
I really hated the way Maya’s family treated her, especially her father. I liked that Chantelle wasn’t fully what we were expecting.
I really liked the ending and the epilogue for this story.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read. I cannot wait for more books from this series.

This was a short romance that started as innocent love at first sight went to a forbidden love. It was a different kind of Cinderella story that involved a teacher and his student. Of course the plot was not original by any means, but the characters had a whole entire unusual twist to them giving this a very interesting read with an abundance of romance. I have seen and read a great many Cinderella stories, but never one like this one with the father still alive. You would understand if you had read the book, he was there, but not there, he treated his daughter like she was not there as she looked to much like her deceased mother. So if you like these types of stories this one is definitely for you. They do not see each other during the school year, they take a break, but it does have a HEA.

What happens when you see someone across the store and you have instant heat? You feel the connection and it’s combustible! Mandy loves sweets and she is ready to buy a toffee apple but runs out of money. James buys the apple for her and they began to feel the attraction, the electricity. They start spending time together and Mandy is finishing her last semester of school. When her math instructor walks in she is floored — it’s James! How can this possible work? Mandy can’t handle James being her teacher. Mandy is having trouble concentrating. There is family drama, school drama, Mandy and James drama. It is a quick little read with good characters and an interesting storyline.

Good surprise on a topic already seen
Very good romance which seemed fast but which quickly stops suddenly when the relationship of the two heroes becomes impossible. In the end, the story is short, simple, tender, a little hot, but it contains twists and turns that made me like the story of the characters, their doubts and their struggle.
During the spring break, in her grocery store, Maya, 18, meets Brody. He offers her a toffee apple that she had put down and he flirts with her because he is very attracted. They quickly get back in touch, but their relationship must end abruptly when they discover that for 2 months before the end of her graduation, Brody will be her math teacher.

Here we have another winner from Megan Wade. I love that Brody was both nerdy and muscled/tattooed. Not enough romance heroes are like that. We either get one or the other, usually. Anyway. I also love how, right off the bat, Brody fed Maya's sweet tooth, helping her undue her stepmom's attempts to get rid of her luscious curves. Take note, gentlemen: the way to a woman's heart is indeed through the stomach. My only complaint, I think, is that I wish that the one love scene we got — not including the 'we can do other things besides penetration' scene — was a bit longer, a bit more detailed. Oh, and also that the author went into a smidge more detail about Josh's run-in with karma.

Overall Verdict: 9 toffee apples out of 10

Enjoyable. Quick Read

This is the 8th book in Megan Wade’s Sweet Curves series. As with the previous 7 books, she gets right to the story.
These books are light and quick reads, which is why I specifically seek them out. I like a variety of types of books and tropes.
I love that the lead female character is this book is curvy and is working on her confidence despite outside pressures. I like that she learned from past experiences. I also enjoyed the fact that she worked through many of her familial relationship issues.
I though that her reaction to the twist was a bit much, and that the lead couple were able to work it out.
I will continue to read the Megan Wade books.

Maya is almost finished with high school and looking forward to attending Cornell University. While on Spring Break, she meets Brody Miller. However, she gets the shock of her life when the man she has begun to fall for turns out to be her new math teacher.

I felt sorry for Maya - she had literally NOBODY in her corner until Brody Miller appeared in her life. This put her in a really vulnerable situation. Brody was good to her, though, and never tried to take unnecessary advantage of her. He really helped her put herself first.

Overall, the book was sweet & steamy with a little drama. It was a book that kept me interested.

Maya has spent the last decade with a father who can not look at her cause he sees his dead wife. Her step mother and siblings are all health nut super thin people. Step mom is always making comments about the curves Maya was born with as a problem and others seem to agree. No sugar items are allowed in the house. At the store she grabs a toffee apple but does not get it in the end. Brody sees Maya and decides she is his forever. He buys her the treat and asks her out. He tries to not move to fast but wants to let her know she is his one.
