Caitlin Bergman, an award winning journalist, returns to the university that she left weeks before earning her degree, twenty years earlier, to receive an honorary degree, Without any plans to do so, in her thank you speech to the audience, she admits the reason she left twenty years ago was because she was raped, an event that has colored every part of her being, throughout her life, whether she was aware of it or not. Now that Caitlin is back, she is determined to face what happened to her despite the fact that coming back is causing her anxiety attacks.
Caitlin is a tough, accomplished, independent woman who prides herself on needing no one but she realizes that she needs help and she gets that help from her former professor, now good friend, Scott, who is also a psychotherapist. She is also dealing how she feels toward her former best friend Mary, now the dean of media department at the college, who introduced her to her rapist. Caitlin can no longer hide all the feelings that are coming out now that she is back in the city of her rape.
But this story is about so much more. There is a kidnapper/killer on the loose, who is scouting out women to add to his collection. He's already taken several and he's always open to more. This psychopath has his sights on Caitlin, as she works hard to find out who took these women and how to stop him. The kidnappings/murders may be connected to a pot growing operation by students/former students and it's hard to know who to trust.
Even the local law enforcement seems like an enemy to Caitlin. They let her down twenty years ago when her wild past was brought up as a defence for the rapist, if she tried to push too hard on the toughest charges against him. And now there seems to be a cover up in the department about the disappearance of a college student two years ago, which could be related to the disappearance of another girl in the current time. Caitlin is determined not to let these girls be forgotten, not to let these crimes be swept under the rug, the way her rape was all those years ago.
Be aware that the subject matter is intense and horrific but we are also reading about a strong woman who is determined to face what has happened, what is happening, and learn to move forward, to heal, and to win over those who do such things to others. No one, not even her best friend Mary Lubbers/Gaffney, knows why she left so suddenly all those years ago, until she lets it slip in her speech that she was brutally raped by a fellow student and left because she received no help from the local police department and university officials and was denied justice. Now she is back to try and come to terms with what happened to her, even though she gets major anxiety attacks whenever she tries to recall that moment.
While there, Caitlin is approached by a student journalist, Lakshmi Anjale, who wants her help with a 2 year old cold case involving the disappearance of her best friend Angela Chapman since it seems that the local police department have, once again, botched up the investigation and are covering up their tracks. What follows is an intense, fast past and taut thrill ride which involves Caitlin uncovering a big, illegal pot growing operation, run by a few ex-students of IU who Angela knew very well and the existence of a seriel kidnapper/ killer who now has his sights set on Caitlin. The last part of the book is pretty intense and can be a bit disturbing for some to read, but is something which becomes therapeutic for Caitlin in the end.
This book DOES NOT have one dull moment. It is a wild ride with things happening (*snap, snap, snap, snap*) every minute along the way. The author doesn't spend time on describing things and emotions since all the characters do that job with their actions and interactions--it is a pure adrenaline rush all the way.

Come and Get Me is a fantastic read! It’s reads like a trip to your favorite ice cream shop to get your favorite sweet treat!
Yes all my thriller loving friends, Come and Get Me by the talented Mr. Norman, is the perfect sundae treat delivered with delicious scoops of thrills, drizzled with just enough of that must have chocolate-flavored psycho and of course I can’t forget - it’s topped with just enough nuts to question who in the read is the nuttiest! Oh and the ending course is one that I dub the sweet cherry on top 🍒! I’m giving Come and Get Me with 4.5 stars and rounding it up to 5 for the sheer brilliance in the writing that left me guessing who the true psychopath was!❤️❤️

Come and Get Me is a debut book, so I didn't know what to expect in terms of writing, but the description intrigued me and I decided to go for it. I'm very glad I did, as the book was absolutely gripping and I really liked how strong and independent the main character is, despite dealing with a serious trauma and subsequent mental health issues. If you are a fan of books with multiple suspects and numerous twists and turns, this one definitely delivers!

Caitlin is a strong and unlikable character. I know this is a series starter for her, but I could have went for more on Angela and her story, since that's a huge part of the plot. I did like how we got the POV from the kidnapper to keep it interesting.
Overall, this was fine for a debut, but for some reason I just wasn't fully invested in the story. Maybe because I listened to it, not sure. It did have my heart pounding a couple of times, and the pace was pretty steady. It doesn't make me thrilled that my daughter will be off to college next year.
Side note ~ not sure of the exact wording, but there was one weird sentence about her not slipping on a banana peel, but a maxi pad. I just really found that odd.

A book with a fun, fierce, flawed female lead and a gripping mystery that had me hooked from the first chapter! August Norman’s Come and Get Me is his debut thriller featuring journalist Caitlin Bergman, who returns to her university decades later in order to accept her honorary degree. And then a local mystery catches her attention, and Caitlin decides maybe not to leave after-all. With a fast-pace and a memorable cast of characters, fans of strong female leads and intriguing mysteries will love this book!
Set primarily in the town of Bloomington, Indiana, Come and Get Me takes place largely on and around the college campus of Indiana University. I admit I am a sucker for any mystery set on a college campus. They are kind of these microcosms of society, fairly contained and filled with students, one of whom is sure to notice something. They are like a studious version of a small-town mystery. Plus, the grad student in me is excited by anything that occurs in close proximity to a good research library! I actually know Indiana’s campus quite well, since one of my older siblings went there. It’s absolutely beautiful—something people who haven’t been to Indiana may struggle to picture.
Caitlin Bergman left school a few credits shy of graduating two decades earlier in the wake of a horrific personal event that rocked her to her core. Since then, Caitlin went on to be an award-winning journalist, and the university invites her back to accept the degree that fell just out of her grasp. Caitlin is very interesting as a character, she’s so independent. Even her closest friends are kept at arm’s length. And learning Caitlin’s story from all of those years ago—it was quite powerful!
When Caitlin is approached to assist with a cold case of a student at the university that went missing two years prior, she isn’t sure she wants to get involved. She wasn’t left with the best memories of the town police department. But her journalistic instinct, as well as her empathy for the missing student, leads Caitlin to stay in town and investigate herself.
And it turns out, there may be more to the story than a single missing girl. Someone is stalking young women in the town, and another woman soon goes missing…
This book is wild and I admit that I had no clue who on earth the pieces of this mystery would come together! There were so many threads that Caitlin unearthed, and they seemed knotted but not necessarily related. But in a masterful plot structure, everything in the book does have a purpose in the conclusion of the mystery.
The last third of the novel was unexpected, dark, and had me on the edge of my seat! It really was like watching a scary movie, where my heart pounded and I also thought “Danger! Don’t go there! Don’t talk to that person! Run!”

I was surprised at the end of this book to find out that the author is male. It is written in the first person from a womans point of view. Very decsriptive and right on target from a womans point of very.
I absolutely loved this novel. It was a fast paced thriller of a ride that had me guessing and back pedalling every couple of chapters. I love the fact that the main character was a journalist. A strong woman that had to deal with a lot for many years.
Caitlin Bergman, international best seller and journalist. Helped uncover an international drug cartel in Los Angeles, is back at her former University to receive her graduate diploma that she was 4 weeks from finishing when she left. Without meaning to she announces that she is in town to help put her own story of rape into her next best seller, the reason that she left the school 20 years previous and never finished her degree. Before she realizes it she is staying much longer than the two days she had planned on and is helping local law enforcement and student journalist with the story of Angela Chapman, a young woman who went missing two years ago. All while fighting her own demons that have been haunting her for 20 years.
This novel was a fantastically written story. With many twists and turns, at some points I couldn't put it down. I loved the way the story unfolded and the way the author helps the main character slowly find closure of her own rape, with a little helps from old and new friends. And a little romance on the side never hurt anything!

Come and Get Me by August Norman is a mystery within a mystery. Caitlin Bergman, an award-winning journalist, is invited back to her hometown to receive an honorary degree from Indiana University. Upon her return, she will be faced with the memories of a traumatic sexual assault that led to her leaving town twenty years before. While there, she is approached by an aspiring journalism student begging for her journalistic help in searching for Angela Chapman, her friend who disappeared without a trace two years ago. While investigating, Caitlin unearths secrets that some residents would rather were left buried and she may be unwittingly setting herself up as bait for a violent predator. What I found especially important in this novel is that the author brought up the subject of the dangers young female students face on college campuses, something some schools try to sweep under the rug in order to protect the college's reputation. This mystery kept up the tension, had interesting characters and a satisfying outcome. This is the first in the Caitlin Bergman series and I look forward to the next novel by August Norman. You know when you've been in a funk and just can't get attached to anything you read?
Yeah, that won't happen when you read Come and Get Me by August Norman.
I started reading one night when I couldn't sleep. That was a mistake. I finally stopped ready by 5am ... lol. Yes, I was a tad tired the next day, but it was totally worth it.
Come and Get Me is tight, enticing, seductive with its taunts and twists - every time I thought I knew what was happening, that I'd peeled back the layers and understood where the author was taking me on this journey, I found out I was wrong. This is a psychological suspense novel that doesn't disappoint. I was immediately sucked into the backstory of journalist Caitlin Bergman - perhaps because I understood the demons she fought - and felt enticed to get to know her more. She wasn't person, screwed up a lot, but was more real than a lot of characters I've bee reading lately.
I really enjoyed August Norma's writing style. It pulled me in without weighing me down. His writing was tight, descriptive and I found myself going back over sentences and phrases because of the depth in them. When I say this story is seductive with it's taunts and twists...I mean it. The author pulls you in, wraps you tight in the embrace of his words and then teases and taunts you while taking you on a twisted journey.
Do I recommend this book? Absolutely. Pre-order it now. Honestly. Don't wait.

Come and Get Me by August Norman is a wild ride that takes you through social issues like rape and lands you in a mystery that is anything but simple.
What it's about: Journalist Caitlin Bergman has gone back to her college in Indiana to accept an honorary degree after leaving before she was finished due to an unimaginable horror. After being asked by a student to look into a two-year-old disappearance on campus, Caitlin will need to work with the police department that botched her case so many years ago and face her trauma, all while trying to find the missing girl before the person watching her... gets her first.
I'm not sure I would call Come and Get Me complete nonstop action, but man was this book good. There is definitely plenty going on, and Caitlin is a badass, even though her past trauma is threatening to hold her back while she is in Indiana. She is whip smart (I can't even believe her fountain of knowledge) and a total smart-ass which at times made for some pretty funny reading. There were also other great characters in this book, and I was a huge fan of Caitlin's friend Mary as well.
Most of the novel is told from Caitlin's perspective, but there were also 2 other viewpoints that made for some chilling and action-packed reading. At times the book felt like a bit like a police procedural, which is something else I really liked although I know it isn't a procedural. I think I am a big fan of journalists as main characters, and if you are too then you are going to have to add Come and Get Me to your must-read pile.
Song/s the book brought to mind: Won't Look Back by Atmosphere (feat. Kim Manning)
Final Thought: Come and Get Me does have a trigger for rape, but besides that it wasn't too bad. It definitely wasn't as disturbing as some of the books I've read lately, but that shouldn't downplay how important this novel is. I really enjoyed both the writing and the pacing, and even though it did take me longer to read than I thought it would for being on the shorter side, that didn't discourage me at all. I actually found it rather hard to put down, and always wanted to know what would happen next. If I were still doing half stars this would definitely be a 4.5 for me!

I actually found it rather hard to put down, and always wanted to know what would happen next. If I were still doing half stars this would definitely be a 4.5 for me!

I'm truly impressed with this book. It was a riveting, twisted and unputdownable book. I was completely hooked right from the start; this book gave me all the thrills and chills I look for in a suspense/thriller while also leaving me on the edge with its accurate and such realistic portrayal of emotions.
This book is about Catlin Bergman, an award-winning journalist who returns to her university to receive an honorary award but ends up getting tangled with an old case concerning a missing student. While Caitlin, being the genius that she is, follows the clues to solving the disappearance of the student, little does she know she puts herself on the hunter's radar. I really love how the characters in this book are built and depicted, the emotions they undergo and their responses to life-changing events. The last of chapter 33 really got to me (You'll know once you read this book)!
I highly recommend this book and author and will eagerly look forward to the next book by August Norman!

This was a great novel, first in a series, about a damaged journalist, a missing girl, and Indiana University. What’s not to love? Author August Norman skillfully weaves Bloomington, IN landmarks and watering holes throughout. From Lennie’s to Kilroy’s to Nick’s, the best of IU culture is represented as Caitlin Bergman returns to receive her degree after 20 years, and stays to solve a missing person case. There is a great deal of action and suspense, and I appreciate the publisher and NetGalley allowing me to be an early reader in exchange for my honest review. Can’t wait for book #2!

Come and Get Me by August Norman is a very fast paced thriller with a strong female leading character.
The secondary characters are well developed and the twists and turns are great!
I really enjoyed this book , it is a page turner that you won't be able to put down. There is a great amount of action and suspense, and I loved that.

August Norman’s debut offering, Come and Get Me, a Caitlin Bergman Novel, is a break neck tale that hits all the thriller hot buttons, with gusto. Norman’s artfully woven plot, smart, funny prose and his heroine, Caitlin Bergman, stole my weekend. You can either clear your schedule before you turn the first page or Norman will do it for you. The novel begins with Caitlin’s return to Bloomington, Indiana, her first in twenty years, to receive an honorary degree from the university she left just four months shy of graduation. Like most honorary degree recipients, journalist Caitlin Bergman has spent the intervening years excelling in her field and making a name for herself. Luckily for the sleepy college town, Caitlin decides to face some old demons during her visit, thus putting her in the perfect position to dig in to a two-year old missing person’s case. As it goes in crime novels, secrets are revealed, hunches get followed and criminals (really, really awful ones, in this case) are exposed, keeping the reader hooked for the duration. To me, the most remarkable facet of Norman’s storytelling is the way the author plunks us in to the middle of Caitlin’s story. Not this story-, the novel Come and Get Me, but her story. Caitlin Bergman comes to us fully formed, with all the layers and delicious depth a reader is lucky to find in a third installment, without any tedious info-dump. The backstory we do get is full of action and intrigue which the author deftly uses to show us he knows exactly who Bergman is and is delighted to introduce her to the world. Now that we’ve met, I long to drink beer and eat pizza with Caitlin but, I’ll have to settle for tapping my foot as I wait for the next Caitlin Bergman novel.

Caitlin Bergman, international best seller and journalist. Twenty years ago she left Indiana University because she was rape and now she back to receive her graduate diploma. As she deal with her demons she decide to write her own story about her rape. It just to sad that women out here are to afraid to come forward when sexually assaulted in fear of not being believe and having it turn back on you.
As she get sidetrack from her own story she agree to help a fellow journalist find her missing friend who went missing two years earlier as they dig deeper they expose a drug ring.
The story doesn't end there because you have another twist Caitlin seems to have a stalker which will lead her into finding what really happen to a missing Angela Chapman.
This is such a good read I didn't put it down until I was finish, it had great twist and turns with strong female character who had her demons but continue to try overcome them can't wait for the next book.

I enjoyed this one and liked the author's writing style (3rd person from Caitlin Bergman's perspective). I'm always happy when I find books not written in 1st POV. I enjoyed the mysteries of discovering the serial psychopath who collects women and the college drug dealers.
There is a lot of potential for triggers in this book as the character development for Caitlin is facing her past which was a violent rape and the cops mistreatment of her. There is also scenes from being kidnapped and held by a psychopath.
The book would also lead one to think that everyone (students and professors) on college campuses do nothing but alcohol abuse, drugs and sex. And maybe a class thrown in now and then.
I would definitely read the next book in this series if the author goes that route.

This book is incredible! I couldn’t put it down (and when I had to, I was thinking about it and where it might be going). A fast-paced thriller that follows a damaged reporter from her troubled past to her present demons. When she thinks she’s helping a young apprentice work on a story that hits close to home, she quickly falls center of it and becomes part of the narrative. You will not be disappointed.

A great debut novel. This book was full of interesting characters, a story that sucked you in from the beginning and smaller stories within the larger story and it all WORKED!!! Well done, well written and most definitely a page turner.Can't wait for the next one in the series!!! Could not put it down. Looking forward to more by this author.

This book was fun and exciting. It had your basic Thriller/suspense set up, but not basic story. I had fun with the characters, and did not guess the "bad guy" until author wanted me too. Great book!

The subject matter of Come and Get Me vacillated between intrigue, alarm and revulsion when Caitlin’s investigation started to uncover the truth behind the disappearances taking place. While reading this story and following its twists and turns, even I was left shocked at what was really taking place in this small town. With each reveal that took place I was left alternating between fascination and horror for what I was learning. Woven in between the backstory of the personal journey Catilin has been on dealing with her own rape is a psychological thriller than delivers all the suspense and intrigue that you would expect with that genre. The pacing was fast and the details in the story were believable, which only added to the fear factor. Come and Get Me is the type of story that will have you second guessing everyone’s motives and will give you no time to feel lulled into a sense of calm, your eyes will not leave the pages until the story is done.

Thriller/crime isn’t a genre I read much of, which is a bit strange considering the actual days of my life that have been sucked irretrievably into the vortex known as the Websleuths Forums. (I have no regrets.)
Anyway, I really enjoyed this book. The main character, Caitlin, was smart and sassy and, most of all, believable. She felt real. The wild ride of Being Suspicious of Everyone was great; I really was guessing and second guessing people’s real motives constantly, and the climactic scenes were creeptastic.
Highly recommend, and look forward to the next Caitlin adventure!

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my fair and honest review. I love suspense/thrillers and this one certainly fits the bill in that category. This was my first book from this author, but I am sure it won't be my last. I found the book to be very well written, lots of wonderful characters and a storyline that pulled me in and didn't let me go until the end of the book. I was so engrossed in the book, and read most of the night. This is the first book in a new series, and I look forward to reading more from this series. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone that loves suspense/thrillers.

I had problems with this book-a second plot line that came out of nowhere then faded just as strangely. Characters I didn't like and more importantly didn't believe. F

Two mysteries in one! Sign me up! I was highly anticipating this novel and it definitely lived up to my expectations. I initially was drawn to this book because of the book cover! It was so captivating to me. A beautiful book cover always manages to pique my interest!
First of all, I totally fell in love with the protagonist Caitlin Bergman! She was a very strong character and I really loved to see the character development throughout the story. After all of the hardships she has endured, she has managed to become a very successful journalist.
I really enjoyed how the story had multiple layers, and how it was totally unpredictable. It was a fast-paced edge-of-your-seat thriller! Without giving too much away, there is a part in the book where you understand where the title comes from and I just LOVED how it all came together. Big Thumps up for me.
After reading, I just had to research to see if there would be another Caitlin Bergman novel because I needed more! If it does become a series, I will be reading each and every one of those books!

There was way too much going on but nothing noteworthy for the first 50+ chapters, that it was a bit annoying to follow. Typical mystery with a moderately predictable twist.
