NAMED BEST MOUNTAIN MAN SERIES BY TRUE WEST MAGAZINE, AUTHOR LANE R WARENSKI DELIVERS THE TENTH BOOK OF THE BEST-SELLING SERIES
Journey through the land of the ancient ones, where spirits still protect the mysterious land where they once dwelled, and strange drawings on the rock walls have stood for a thousand years. Zach Connors, known as Grizzly Killer, travels with his family through the rugged and mysterious canyons where the Anasazi once built their homes high on the cliffs. The year is 1833, and they are going to Taos for the supplies they will need for another year living in the Rocky Mountains.
Before reaching the Taos Valley they face dangers from not only the unforgiving and rugged land, but they must cross the mighty Colorado, Green, and San Juan Rivers. They meet a Navajo Spirit Talker that can feel her same powers within Star and Raven Wing. They face dangers from new enemies, and encounter an old and evil nemesis, and must fight alongside Mexican soldiers before trading their plews and starting on the long trek back home.
Lane R Warenski lives in a log home in Duchesne County, Utah, where he has an unrestricted view of the highest peaks in the mighty Uinta Mountains. Warenski was raised being proud of his pioneer heritage and with a deep love and respect of the outdoors. Ever since childhood, following his father, Lane R Warenski has hunted, fished, and camped the mountains of the West. Whether it was the daily journals of William Ashley and Jedediah Smith or the fictional stories written by the great storytellers like Louis L’Amour and Terry C. Johnston, throughout his life, Warenski loves reading the history of the first explorers that came west, most of whom never dreamed they were opening this wild and rugged land to the pioneers and settlers that followed.
Lane Warenski – Grizzly Killer: Spirit Talkers Bk 10 Reviewed 5/4/20 – Read 4/27-28/20 Canyon of the Dead leads Grizzly Killer and family towards Taos and the scary evil one, White Snake.
After spending the winter at the Ute village in the Canyon of the Ancients. Zack Conners and his partners plan on continuing to Taos, to trade their plews for their supplies for the upcoming year. It was March now and the winter was not as severe in the canyon due to the protection of the walls, but hunting was a challenge as there was not as much wildlife. It takes a lot of meat to feed the large village of the Utes.
On this morning as Zack was finishing up his morning coffee, Star, his daughter comes to him in tears. She told him that she saw boys in trouble. She was crying because she was scared, and so was the boys. Raven Wing had also seen the boys, high up on the side of one of the canyon walls. After Jimbo located the boys, Standing Bear starts a harrowing rescue. Zack was much too big to be able to balance on the narrow ledge where the boys were frozen. That ledge was more than 200 feet up the wall. Or to even attempt to climb up the crack in the wall to get to that ledge. The only trouble was that the crack in the wall did not offer much in the way of steps in getting up. So Standing Bear had to push his back into the wall of the crack so that he could inch up. When he was almost there, he tried to reach out to the boys, he lost the pressure that was holding him up. He started sliding down, but finally got stopped. Going down must have torn up his back severely as the pain was almost unbearable, but there was no turning back. Finally, with the help of a rope over a rock above him, he managed to reach out to the boys and get them back to the crack so they could climb back down.
Zack had never felt so helpless before in his life, but thankfully the boys were safe. It turned out that the two boys wanted to be like their dads, and help in supplying meat for the village. Two Feathers, the chief, had decided that the Spirits in the canyon did not want them there, so they were going to move the village. Zack and his partners decided that when Standing Bear’s back healed, they would continue to Taos. And now the story continues their travels…
What did I like? I have loved every book that I have read about Grizzly Killer and his assorted family. Being part Native American, also knowing so many myself, they are comfortable to me. Many of the adventures are like sitting around with my Indian grandfather and listening to him tell stories from his family’s history. I miss those times, especially now in this dilemma that the world is in. I felt safe and surrounded by love. I know Grandfather would have approved of Grizzly Killer. And who knows maybe one of these characters is related to him. Wouldn’t that be a hoot!!! Of course, I know that these are the product of Lane’s imagination but they sure sound real.
What will you like? Lots of Indian lore in this one. As Star begins to feel her Spirit talking ways more and more, the storylines are becoming so interesting and deeper. Raven Wing is beginning to understand more about what is going to happen to Star, so it is going to be fascinating to watch her develop. Plus the descriptions of the places that they are traveling through, are so real that you can breathe in the air, and smell the smoke and Arbuckle. Lane’s descriptions are to the point that I could almost see the canyons, rivers, dwellings, and everything around them. The action this time is a lot deeper and intense with White Snake being involved again. I found myself holding my breath until the final page turned. Awesome ending, I loved it!!

Zach, aka Grizzly, and his entourage of family and friends, find themselves in the middle of another entertaining Indian revolution. These outlaw Indians have an old nemesis of Grizzly Killer leading them in their destruction of Mexican ranchers and their families. Outstanding story from beginning to end!
As all of the Grizzly storied , Mr. Warenski has another five star masterpiece of heartwarming entertainment, that is definitely packed with one exciting adventure after the other. Outstanding storylines that reaches out and grabs your undivided attention immediately, and only gets better with each new suspenseful episode. Too, the Author's successful selection of characters definitely portrayed their assigned roles to perfection from beginning to end. There is the warmth that Grizzly Killer, and his family portrays, that grabs your heartstrings immediately, and the compassion they continuously portrayed throughout the entire story is very heartwarming. Plenty of gunplay throughout the entire story, as the renegade Indians bring heartaches and despair from beginning to end! Definitely recommend this compassionately motivated story to all readers, but especially to you western folklore addicted readers looking for exciting gunfights and taking of our old American West. I have been fortunate enough to having had the opportunity to read all of the Grizzly Killer stories, and they are definitely worthy of your time, as each new adventure gets more involved than the previous ones! Please! Don't miss the opportunity to follow Grizzly Killer and his associates, as I assure you, the loss will be yours!!!😄
Action, Adventure, and a Love Story that will keep you turning the pages.
I have read the entire series of Zack Connor, the Grizzly Killer. Growing up in Georgia in a time that children and older kids could run through the woods with a free spirit was priceless. In my minds eye, I have found myself on the trails with Grizzly Killer as if I were a part of his family and friends. I have thoroughly enjoyed every book I've read written by Mr Lane R. Warenski. Each book is a page tuner and I'm frustrated when I must stop reading to fulfill life's every day duties and expectations. As I started Grizzly Killer: Spirit Walker I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I see a lot of myself in the character of Zack Conners, easy going, eager to see what's over the horizon, passion and a desire to be a good man but when forced to I'll become as mean and viscous as a grizzly bear to fight for my life and to protect family, friends and loved ones. I enjoy life, it's adventures and the splended beauty of God's creation in this great land. AMERICA. Don't hesitate to take the journey with Zack Conners. You won't be disappointed. I most highly recommend Spirit Talkers and the entire Grizzly Killer series. They are absolutely AWESOME. Note: Best if started at the beginning of the series.
Great writing! This storyline is the profile of superstition, petroglyphs and those with the ability to see thoughts and actions that no one else can vision. Little Star, daughter of Grizzly Killer, and her aunt have that vision and share it with those they want to protect. While the families travel south to Mexico Territory, enemies come across the lands to rape, pillage and burn the homes and families. This book is all their stories about how they live and how they die. Zach Connors continues his travels like the nomad brothers he cares about while the families grow and learn about other cultures. I'm anxious to read on and see if and when they all go home to the Rockies.
I have read everyone of the books in Lane Warenski's Grisly Killer series and I have enjoyed each book tremendously. His attention to historical detail of the people's and time is refreshing and immensely appreciated. If you enjoy books about the Mountain Men and Native Americans of this time then I highly recommend that you begin reading the Grizzly Killer series from the beginning. I am very much looking forward to reading Lane R Warenshi's next book about the Grizzly Killer and family.
This is at this point in time the last of the Grizzly Killer series, although I sincerely hope this is not the end. I hope Lane R. Warenski, the author, will continue the tales of Grizzly Killer, his family and dear friends. The excitement and adventure in this tenth book is at times almost overwhelming. It is definitely a page turner and hard to put down. You will greatly enjoy every word and page in this tenth book.
Courage, wilderness bound, love and compassion for all is I believe helped mold this great nation to what it’s become! We’re on the cusp of either becoming a compassionate world or becoming extinct! Man must get back to what our ancestors built by love, compassion, strength, but most important love for people, love of life, living honorably, seeking a power greater than we are, seeking knowledge to be greater than our ancestors!
Zach is touring the southern US as a change of pace. He runs into some old enemies and some new ones and makes some new friends. Lots of action, as always and lots of entertainment. If you are this far into Lanes books you know as always, just buy 'am and read 'em, nuff said!
I have enjoyed every book in this series, the author has done a lot of research in the area to describe where everything happens. If you like reading about mountain men you will definitely enjoy this book and all others. I would recommend reading the series from the start then you know all the characters well.
I really enjoy the way Lane rights his story's. I felt like this story was a little quicker there was less chitter chatter at camps and downtime and more meat and potatoes if you know what I mean.
Also I love mapping some of the locations as I read to get an idea of where the story is taking place. Very cool
This was another truly another amazing book in this Series of fantastic Grizzly Killer Stories that can barely be put down once started! This was probably one of my favorites. This Author is truly Amazing with each and every Book in this fantastic Western Series!!
Well, as another reviewer said, this a little bloodier and full of torture!
I wish we didn't have to read about Indian torture and evil white man but I guess that's what makes these books good and exciting! You have to separate the good from the bad and the bad have to commit their heinous acts to reap their own rewards. Burn White Snake, burn!
Grizzley Killer never disappoints me. I never want to put the book down. I really cannot think of anything about this series that I find difficult or uninteresting except the possibility of it coming to an end.
Review of *Grizzly Killer: Spirit Talkers* by John Lietzke
I gave the book 5 stars because I thought it was well written and I like stories about mountian men. The story I liked best involved the Cruz Rancho and Zach Conners.
Good action , good combat and rescue scenes. The characters were decent, believable. I like the spooky scenes where "how does she do that?" As much as I like to be rational, I know I don't know it all.
When Grizzly Killer let the Comanche medicine man Whitesnake live. He feared it would come back to haunt him. In this book it does. Zack, his wives, partners and children head to Neuva Mexico where and old enemy is causing havoc.
Again the author has created a masterpiece! I have been gifted to get to see a tiny bit of the country in this book, and the spellbinding way he has worked his words take my breath away!
Like the rest of the series, this book was interesting and exciting. Can't wait for the next one. Lane Warenski paints an accurate picture of the terrain.
I love these stories of Grizzly Killer, his family, and their friends and animals. Wonderful action and beautiful country. Great reading and hope the writing continues.
