He'd set out to destroy me. I should have hated him but I couldn't.
The summer before I moved to Spring Meadow, the horrific death of a Vestamont High student rocked the entire community. He'd been popular. Liked by all. His death had struck everyone because no one had ever been able to figure out what had happened to him.
But I moved here amid the chaos as the new girl. No one wanted me there and they wanted to make sure I knew just how badly I wasn't wanted.
As for him, the worst of them all, there didn't seem to be a line he wouldn't cross. I wanted to hate him because it would have made things so much easier.
The only thing I had to do was to survive my senior year and then I could say goodbye to Vestamont High and goodbye to Spring Meadow forever.
Nine months... how hard could that be?
Turned out at Vestamont High, it was going to be a lot harder than I could have ever imagined.
Sometimes I pick up a book and i have no further expectations than for it to be entertaining. My goal is very simple; read a book and have some fun. Is the story cheesy? No problem. Maybe short? That's just fine. Does the story remind me of something else? I will take it. But when said book is a patchwork of nonsense, awful 2D characters, bad writing, problematic editing and no pace, well then I am simply out. This low budget Riverdale fanfiction doesn't merit a series of books. One is far too many.
THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK
- The best thing is the synopsis. - Every character in this book was inconsistent. Maybe the author tried to make them seem mysterious, alluring and diverse, but she failed.
I’d love to say this is a must read...but it’s so short!! While I’m into the premise...it leaves too many questions. Maybe the next book will make it a must read series?
Good foundation, average execution. *slight spoiler*
First of all, an editor is needed, there was some errors that were basic that should’ve been picked up - even beta readers should have noticed them. (eg. mixing then/than.) I wish there had been more physical descriptions, a little more scene/world building too. I didn’t feel I was able to fully immerse myself into the story, I couldn’t really see the characters in my mind clearly. I also don’t buy that she would be so intent on solving the murder because “what else has she got to do” which isn’t a strong enough motivation for me, considering she might draw the attention of the murderer. There’s a good foundation that’s been laid down but I just feel like it hadn’t been polished up. I won’t be reading the rest of the series.
This is a fantastic start to a new series. With mystery, romance, secrets, and bullies, this is a must-read. The characters are great and that is one creepy little town. Looking forward to the next in this series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
HOWEVER, I am having a hard time taking Veronica Mars seriously. She really is a scrappy character. She has no backbone, is gullible, wishy washy, OVERDRAMATIC, and is nosey AF. I'm intrigued by Silas, but really don't care about the student murder. I'm hoping since the storyline had to be set up, the next one gets better, and Harriet the Spy matures and grows. She really is ruining the story for me.
There are quite a few things going on in this book. It was a fast read with a great deal of mystery. The characters are mostly teenagers that seem to have a grudge against anyone new. I think they're all guilty of something - bullying, deceit, betrayal, lying and maybe something more sinister. A good story.
Interesting read, good story line, was written okay, could have been better but overall not bad, looking forwards reading book 2 as I want to know where the story will lead.
