Budding realtor Amanda Cauble is sent on a fool’s errand on a stormy afternoon. When her car is washed into a rising creek, it could be the last thing she does.
Lexington (Lex) Walters has run the Rocking W Ranch for the last ten years, alone except for hired hands and her feisty housekeeper, Martha. She doesn’t have the time or inclination for dating, but when fate drops a beautiful woman into her path, how can she resist?
With the bridge out of service and the weather against them, Lex and Amanda work together to take care of the ranch. When they stumble across a group of rustlers also stranded by the weather, will the stress destroy their budding relationship?

I loved everything. The storyline, the characters, the action, the humor, just everything. What an amazing start of this series and now, I'm going to the next one. Yeah, doing a happy dance.
Okay, this is a relatively standard romance setting and plot... but, it is so well written and the characters are so vibrant that I am sure that I will be reading more of this series.
I loved the main protagonists and the incidental characters.
It did feel slightly packed in - i.e. a heck of a lot happens in the week plus that the main characters are cut-off, but I am looking forward to the next in the series to see where it goes next.
Loved it! A sweet romance with low angst, but a little danger thrown in. Sexy rancher Lex is forced to rescue trainee real estate agent Amanda when a bridge collapses and Amanda's car is swept into a creek. Between their blossoming feelings, there's also Martha (the most amazing mother figure ever!!), cattle thieves, and a storm that just won't let up! A great read! I look forward to reading more in this series!
This was such a cute feel good story, and after being sick the past few days I really appreciate some goodness in my life. I look forward to reading more from the Somerville series. ☺️
The general story was ok but the constant repetition of the housekeeper scolding her employer (Lex) like she was a little girl is just stupid. If I had an employee that talked to me that way, they would be fired immediately. I suspect it is supposed to be cute but I found it tiresome. The story also talks about the housekeeper beating the child Lexie with a wooden spoon. I found that offensive also. Not sure how this writer was raised but that is generally unacceptable throughout the U.S.
I've read the entire Lex & Amanda series so far, and I'm very happy I did. I know there are people who find the "love at first sight" thing naive or sappy or unbelievable. But, I for one, believe it can happen. I like the fact that while there is angst in all of the books, the couple gets through it all together instead of breaking up for a bit just to find each other again. I mean, if you're going to fall in love at first sight, you should be able to handle anything together. :)
The books are about the love and romance, without having to go so deep into the specifics of sex. It's a nice change from a lot of romances out there. If you're looking for books (as well as a blog) that will keep you entertained, I recommend this series.
I've found myself gravitating towards f/f books because I got tired of the Alpha/Arrogant male. Plus, as a writer who concentrates on strong women, I love reading these strong roles. Lex & Amanda are equal partners, each excelling at different things which balances each other out. Love is love. I love it! :)
Love on the Range There is just something about a cowgirl… They are tough, rugged, strong, smart and sexy as sin. Lex is no different. Full of charm this brave woman rescues the petite and sweet Amanda from a certain death. Trapped on the ranch they get to know each other and face storms both from the great outdoors and in their hearts. This is a beautiful and wonderful story filled with love and danger and warm contentment. It was so easy to get lost in it and forget all about the outside world. I truly can’t believe the book is 327 pages because it seemed to go so quickly…. I loved everything about this book, especially the fact that Ms Carr will be adding on to this endearing drama.

I love stories that are simple, charming with passion and a bit of suspense thrown in. I absolutely adored Lex. A woman with a heart of gold who stood up for others. The relationship between Lex and her caregiver/adoptive mother was endearing and quite funny at times. Amanda was perfect for Lex. Their relationship slowly and naturally blossomed with very little outside drama. I also love stories that centre on one place, instead of multiple destinations. Lex's ranch was the focal point which was very refreshing.
This book was so good that I literally forgot about something cooking and nearly burnt up my apartment because I was reading and so entranced by the book. And...this was my second reading of the book. Lex is so swoon-worthy that she stands out as one of my all-time favorite characters. The story humor, romance, a fast-paced story, and excellent writing. I was invested in the plot and characters. I can't wait for the re-release of the rest of the series. Highly recommended.
This was ok, but I found it a little cheesy and some parts repetitive and unrealistic. I didn't feel that either of the main characters changed particularly much through the story. Despite a storm, an unfortunate incident, some injuries and run in with rustlers and robbers, everything seemed a little too good to be true. I think the story line could have benefited from more tension. I think the author may have tried to introduce it at times but then any misunderstandings or issues were swiftly tidied up and things just went on being pretty much perfect between the main characters. To be honest, it got a little boring, especially when the one or the other of them was jumping in the shower or bath nearly every other scene so they could accidentally catch glimpses of each other's bodies. This wasn't a page turner for me and I probably won't read any more of the series because I just didn't feel that invested in the near perfect main characters whose 'flaws' did not turn out to be flaws after all.
I love a good romance and this story is a good one. I like the main characters. I like the idea of love at first sight. In particular I like the fact that Lex & Amanda see strengths in each other. Although Lex has skills that a person may envy. I also like the secondary characters. They are funny as well as interesting.
This is a typical damsel in distress and heroine comes to save the day. It's however childlike in the way it's written and the characters. I find myself getting more and more dissapointed and checking to ensure I am actually reading about characters who are supposed to be adults.
I liked the MC's enough. Always a sucker for butch/femme romance. The story has good potential, and quite a few good parts, but IMHO sidelined by too much needless childish bantering between one of the MC's and her motherly housekeeper. And when I thought finally the MC's were coming together it's a fade to black scene. Sorry ... no. It was like lights out. Boom. Not even fading. I had to double back the two sentences to make sure the author actually meant for them to have just made love. And this is supposed to be the loves of their lives ??? I felt cheated out of the character's emotions as they could have been unfolded by the way they physically came together. I'm not asking for smut - but something more poignant than what sounded like taking their T shirts off and then there's morning. Argh. The other thing that annoyed me to no end were the thieves. One minute they were described as stupid AF and another minute they were super smart and eluding the seasoned sheriff's hunt ... all to push the story to some sort of artificial thrill. I can usually forgive and forget one thing at a time ... a few typos ... one unconvincing plot development ... but there were too many things that rubbed me the wrong way here. I was looking forward to a 9-part series. Now I'm not sure if I want to invest in the next installment.
Lex is a complicated young woman who runs a ranch. Amanda is a young woman living with her Grandparents trying to find her way. On a very stormy night their paths will cross in the most dramatic way. I fell in love with these characters in the first chapter. They both have complex paths and what brings them together is so frightening. The courage of the characters, their dialog and of course Martha the ever present house maid but the mother Lex needed make this story beautiful. There is intriguing but dangerous moments and lots of fun loving hearts. I am so glad for this being a series and a new author is added to my collection.
4.8. This is delightful. And all grandparents are delightful (instead of the typical cheater or power hungry and the nicer). I love old people and kids!
Both main characters are sweet as can be. Not sugary sweet. One is sweet like a tad of honey in tea but is her own person - which I love. The other is like a baby pickle. You think it is sour but it tastes so sweet. I feel they would give their lives for each other. I KNOW the pickle would give her life for almost anyone. A loner who feels deep obligation to community - even if she is not being treated well by her community. I hope they have kids. And I hope the pickle can relax around people more as she feels people don’t like her - like a feral cat that everyone is trying to feed and love. But she doesn’t scratch - she is just afraid. And no one on earth is a harder worker.
Thanks Carrie.
I have all 3 of the series and will start #2 tomorrow.
This is the first book by this author that I have read and I couldn't have started with a better book.
I was hooked to it from start to finish. Love Lex and Amanda but I must admit that my favourite character has to be Martha. I loved the story line and the banter from all at times had me in stitches.
This was recommended by another author. I personally enjoy reading series so I figured to give it a try. This was an easy ready, two people falling in love and working together to overcome any obstacles.
I will continue reading this series and will also try her stand alone books.
This book is so wonderfully written. The way Lex and Amanda met set tone for the entire story. I like the way their story developed and drew in the reader. It has angst but not an overwhelming lot. I think I’m in love with Lex, Amanda and Martha. Beautiful story and I can’t wait to read the other books in the Somerville series.
Lex and Amanda are great together. This is real and true love. Now do not sleep on Martha that bond can never be broken between her and Lex. There will always be haters in any novel but how Lex and Amanda handle it is awesome.
What a great story about two amazing women Lex and Amanda. I have to say I love the grandparents and Martha as well. I’m excited to see how the story continues in this series.
Looks like I have another author to follow and series to read. Lexi & Amanda are so adorable, I'm looking forward to reading the next book in thier journey.
