September 11, 2001. Padma Mahajan mourns the loss of her newlywed husband, Major Kyle Mason, killed while defeating terrorists from crashing American 11 into the World Trade Center. As she watches harrowing videos on TV of American 11 missing the North Tower by mere feet, a mysterious visitor enters her apartment. possessing stunning knowledge about the future. Leveraging this information, Padma becomes the world’s wealthiest person and de facto “Empress of America” until a new authoritarian challenges her rule and forces her and the visitor from the future to escape into the past – through the Time Tunnel. An accident in the Time Tunnel throws the couple hopelessly off course. Lost in time, they use their knowledge of the future to change the outcome of one of history’s most heinous massacres. As they attempt to change the past, they are hunted by Colonel Annika Wise, who has orders to kill the time traveling duo.
Richard Todd is a writer, inventor, and entrepreneur.
As a contributor to the Huffington Post and the San Francisco Chronicle, he has interviewed astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, Virgin Group founder and chairman Sir Richard Branson, “Interstellar” executive producer Kip Thorne, economist and EU advisor Jeremy Rifkin, Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak, Pulitzer Prize winning author Jane Smiley, astrophysicist Brian Greene, IBM "Watson" supercomputer team leader David Ferrucci, and "Who Killed the Electric Car's" Chelsea Sexton.
Richard holds four patents in the field of information technology. Like Michael Crichton's great techno-thrillers, Richard weaves real life science into "Time Tunnel: The Towers" to translate fantastic concepts like time travel into startling reality.
Richard lives on a horse ranch in California with his beautiful wife Laura and the many rescue animals under their care. In his not-so-abundant spare time, he is a competitive horseback rider.
This sequel to " Time Tunnel: The Twin Towers " was somewhat disappointing in that the first book ended in a cliffhanger which I hoped would be resolved. This book created more cliffs and more hangers so now I have to wait for the third. I wish I had known that from the beginning so I could have waited until the series was completed before starting which I much prefer to do. Otherwise it was entertaining.
What a huge disappointment this book was compared to the Twin Towers. I had assumed that it was a conscious decision on the author's part not to go into too much depth in certain areas of the first book to keep the pace of the novel swift. In this one, however, we are told about love stories blossoming, and others crumbling, but the author doesn't show this happening. So much of this novel remains undeveloped that the emotions and feeling and driving forces behind the protagonists from the first novel just appear to be absent here. Possibly more troubling is that in the first book, we know who we are rooting for, who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. But our heroes are now despots? Are we supposed to now dislike Kyle? Padma? Annika? Is the message that absolute power corrupts absolutely? I understand that with multiple timelines, the characters may be different based on the circumstances of each timeline, but everything is so underdeveloped here, that we lose touch with who is the protagonist and who is the antagonist. This character loves or hates this character, yada yada yada, now this character doesn't anymore. Just a big let-down. I will not be purchasing the third installment if or when it comes out.
It is very difficult to believe that this second volume in the re-imagined Time Tunnel series by Richard Todd was written by the same author who penned the first. The first volume was pitch perfect - complex characters whom you could respect and even like, solid extrapolation of scientific theories into plausible fictional technologies, clever solutions to the classic and vexing time travel paradoxes, excellent pacing and dialogue. The second volume, which continues as if it is just the next chapter in the first book, effectively destroys any empathy the reader built up for the main characters, Kyle and Padma, making them not only unlikable but vapid, and then proceeds with a reimagining of an historical event that strains the credulity of the reader beyond even the original campy 60’s television series. Typo’s speak of hurried editing, and technical points are not as thoroughly researched. Strangely, the final chapters recapture a bit of the flavor of the first book, almost as if they were written first, but not enough to carry the day. Undecided if I will try volume 3.
Just wow! Put me on the list as a Richard Todd fan. I was wondering how he could keep the momentum of the first book going but I am pleased to say that he did just that.
9/11 is a topic I have researched to death in my own work so it holds a special place in my mind. I wouldn't say The Empire is better than The Twin Towers, but it is definitely equally as good. That is saying a lot as I thoroughly enjoyed the first book. This one throws the reader for a spin as it unexpectedly winds up in the wild (mid)-west just before the Massacre at Wounded Knee.
Once again, you grow to care about the characters and where their tales will lead. I would lie if I said I didn't get a little worried about where the romances were headed in certain spots. Luckily, everything ended up as I had hoped so I wasn't left unsatisfied by the end of the book. I am happy to see that the series hasn't reached its ending and eagerly await book 3! History junkies such as my self are in for a wild ride. Well done once again, Mr Todd.
Absolutely loved this book. It was even more exciting than the Twin Towers one. Padma has become a billionaire due to the knowledge she gained from Kyle traveling to the past. Kyle is still with her but living under an assumed name because he doesn't want anyone to know he's alive. Once again they travel into the past and the adventure never stops. This book was so fast paced I could not stop reading. Ready for the next one!
Book One was awesome.. book two was drivel. Obviously the author needs money. Pathetic and pointless. I am very disappointed. There was great promise. ..
I enjoyed the first book but this storyline is boring and not believable. Our heros get accidentally transported to 1890 where they enthusiastically proceed to change the outcome of key battles between the US Cavalry and native Americans, creating Timeline 3. They reveal they are from the future, introduce modern weapons, create a goddess, etc. When they’re wrenched back to Timeline 2 they’re shocked...just shocked that the map of the US is now very, very different. No.
This, book 2 of the Time Tunnel series, is an entertaining and action-packed story. The characters are well-developed and the world is well-described. I was stunned by the ending and can hardly wait to read book 3. I highly recommend the series and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
This book was all over the place. The setup to get them into the time machine was terrible. Once they were there the main female protagonist suddenly started acting completely out of character and the end was very strange.
Incredibly written and outrageously believable !!! Makes you want to time travel, that's for sure. Especially considering our country at the moment, I sure would love to go back in time to fix a few things !!! Lol Definite5 star series! Would b highly recommend!!!
A fun read, but went a little off the tracks for me. Was still good, and I had to see how it ended, but got a little silly for me. (To be fair though, it's a time travel book, what was I expecting?_
You never know what you are going to get in a second book in a series. This one was surprising and I loved it! It went in a very different direction but like the first one, was well researched and blended in accurate and sometimes rarely know true historical facts. I really appreciated that. I enjoyed where the Author went with this one. I won't give spoilers but there was a lot of satisfaction in this alternate history too!
With the return of Kyle and his beloved Padma the trek takes the reader to the last of the dying race of the Lakota People of the plains and Sitting Bull. How will they save the starving people from the Troops intent on annihilating them and how will history change because of their presence?
I struggled through 100+ pages in the vain hope that somehow the storyline, the character development, the physics “principles “… something, anything, would improve. But nope. The whole undertaking is preposterous. Maybe the first draft should have been done by Chat AI or a middle schooler.
Rating: minus 25, on a scale of minus 15 to plus 5.

I saw a Village Idiot who whilst insulting a trans creator I listed, complain to her that I include trans creators in my lists. I am no longer surprised at the Snowflake (deranged, barely educated, lacking self-awareness US tittie-baby). A trigger warning then.
These channels I list include the primatologist, Bahamian, intersex, military modeller, tall, socialist, economist, bi, sewist, fashion historian, military historian, wargamer, Iranian, het, redhaired, psychologist, lumber yard worker, architect, trans, marine biologist, chemist, physically challenged, mathematician, asexual, German, boat restorer, WOC, boardgamer, queer, communist, older, political commentator, pensioner, literary critic, soldier, Norwegian, schizoid and other creators known as Women.
Almost as threatening to the Snowflake (barely literate, emotionally damaged US child-man) are other channels which include other BIPOC, anarchist, New Zealander, archaeologist, painter, physicist, train modeller, other LGBTQI, Danish, wood worker, tailor, other fashion historian, ginger, linguist, anthropologist, reenactor, other military historian, Canadian, farmer, zoologist, book reviewer, boardgame historian, other chemist, neurodivergent, paleontologist and other creators. known (outside the US) as Human Beings.
Should the voices persist, seek emergency therapy and\or immediately seek remedial socialisation and\or develop a new skill, perhaps reading.
My feelings towards those fellows are similar to that of the 13 Ukrainian marines defending Snake Island, when their surrender was demanded by the Russian navy. Their response was "Russian warship, go f@ck yourself." Glory to Ukraine. Glory to the Heroes. Crimea is Ukraine.
Once more. Unto the Book, dear friends. The book revisits the concept of a time travel tunnel. It is a difficult premise which I imagined would require careful consideration of altering the characters' present, limitations on travel and purpose.
It seems that I was wrong in my imagining. The entire premise is that by yet another means, the US empire is reborn. The plot is the conceit that the USA are the most responsible, most free, most moral power on the planet. Never believed, never delivered except performatively and now finally publicly admitted by other states forced to address the dangers of the former hegemony.
Little worldbuilding and less thought are hallmarks of current US science fiction. As of this writing, no country on the globe considers the US to be even a dependable trade partner.
The main character is the widow of a "real American", who inherits the position of Empress of the world. This device which I have also seen in other books, should offend many Goodreads members.
I suspect this is to demonstrate that the Racism is solved. As Nikki Haley (Republican presidential candidate) stated in a televised rally "America is not and has never been a racist country". 250 years of enslavement of a population and genocide of indigenous peoples were probably a lark.
This control of Time is at best, hubris worthy of Time Lords and at worst another fantasy of USA forever. He agrees with the last quote by the late unlamented Henry Kissinger. "It does not matter, as long as the USA is Number One."
A number of the worst of these books, have introduced the Female sociopath as main character. No fear, they are the usual insane male written with vagina. It is not at all a transparent effort to demonstrate that the misogyny have been defeated. Fantastic, yeah!
Fans of these make great Russians, I suspect. They embrace cruelty for the sake of cruelty, their exceptionalism embodied by their growing poverty and adoration of those who would officially enslave them. Their nationalism is cultish adoration of the Leader, his Party and their perspective, which from US YouTube channels include genocide against certain US populations.
Consider treating this as a hostile site. 🤔
Goodreads discourse does not exist. As example, my last original review was a note to myself that the premise of Powers of the Earth by Travis Corcoran, was dangerous, unhealthy.and I now add prophetic.
The book is the tale of a rich twat enlisting the military in aid of overthrow of a US government in order that he not pay taxes.. It and similar themes abound on Unlimited. Originally blurbed as similar to a Heinlein classic, it is a badly written imitation of "Atlas Shrugged" set on the moon.
Travis self-described as libertarian (now anarcho capitalist without millions), employee of an unnamed US agency,
advocate for the return of chattel slavery (popular US opinion with new concentration camps being built for US citizens and their children. Given US history, the road from forced labour prison to plantation is quite a short one),
veteran, admirer of Putin (popular in both Parties with declining US living standards currently approaching Russian levels).
Travis and six fellow patriots were incensed by my communist opinion. There followed a year long stream of unhinged comments demanding my response. No mention was made of the book's quality, though I was gifted a number of unwanted insights.
My refusal to engage was narcissistic, slavery past and present is a social good (that felt very North Korean or Gulag worship), my intelligence was wanting, women are not intellectually equipped to process "hard" science fiction and many more typical Goodreads understandings.
Finally Claes Rees Jr aka cgr710 now ka Clayton R Jesse Jr wrote a final comment. After referencing the contents of my last message exchange with a Goodreads friend, he declared that They had "won" (?).
It transpired that They and friends had launched a year long tsunami of truly vile sexual, anti-LGBTQ, racist and anti-socialist comments against channels which I mentioned and it continues still. Having seen the persistence of these animals and similar against YouTubers and others extend across years (Lindsay Ellis was a valuables example), I admitted that removing them from my 1400+ reviews would not end Their campaign.
Unfortunately the archaeologist, military boardgamer, early teen boater and her mother, sewist, historian and many other female creators were not susceptible to the Snowflake (emotionally stunted US tittie-baby) charm offensive.
However the world's overabundance of unpleasantness was certainly increased and They did deliver a splendid self-portrait of the Snowflake (proudly ignorant, vicious US man-child) to a multinational audience.
On balance quite the Victory. With Goodreads discourse is stimulating, if disturbing.. Should the above cause the least discomfort, there are BookTubers to guide a reader to saner, safer, more useful reader forums.

There is an eleven year old survey of the pool from which these fans are drawn, in which 80%+ of white Americans do not approve of the "racism", yet in the same poll 70-80% agreed with every white nationalist talking point.
About 50% of the new recruits to the ICE are Latino. Persons of Latin ancestry are the primary first wave targets of kidnapping, murder, torture, sexual abuse of women, children and men. This is another example of the culture, which produces members.
Unfortunately Britain have successfully imported the US perspective and public language, which can only be the prelude to Britain's full descent into the to North American madness. The white race rioters and the reactions from Boston (East Midlands) voters to Brexit still, is proof enough.
Ominous music begins. 😊 The comment stream I described was not uncommon except in duration and reach, until the Australian Intervention. Amazon take no action against deranged members, writers who encourage Them or employees who enable both. Though noting racism, misogyny or other anti-human elements in a review may result in a review being labelled" Hate Speech " and deleted. Very American.
Those members enjoy the stalking, doxxing, threatening, hacking and more. My own very limited message history was given over to these diseased souls. This was followed by a request through Pine Gap Centre that Australian Intelligence services interrogate the one Goodreads friend whom I occasionally messaged. The attempt at my personal information failed.
Amazon did not acknowledge the crimes committed but instead returned my page format and options to normal, masked all comments insane and healthy both, disappeared all the Lurkers whom I had not been Allowed to remove and seem to have ended Kindle harassment.
A BookTuber wrote a review addressing anti-human elements in a title, which was deleted as "Hate Speech" and her membership threatened.
Another BookTuber had access to her cloud library blocked and Kindle bricked. Her crime was to object to an obvious double billing (from Amazon's own records).
A seventh ex-employee of EBay (the former Chief of EBay Global Security or something like) was sentenced for harassment of a couple whose small ecommerce site was deemed unkind to EBay. The couple were awarded millions of pounds.
With the increased latitude allowed US data firms, I expect more such incidents.
I grew up in extreme poverty, yet these fine members and employees perform pointless viciousness which before Goodreads, I had never thought possible of a sane person.
I recommend precautions. Remove all personal information from Goodreads profile and avoid the messaging function. Remove lurkers, those who never post. They are !likely monitors for comment gangs or employee dummies.
Given the Goodreads penchant for Alterations to customer pages, screenshots of the odd, ugly or threatening are invaluable. For Goodreads that may suffice.
Kindle are the more serious. Do Not use Kindle Email, Files, Calendar or Contacts. Employees Sign Into customer Email without permission or notice. Make of that what you will.
Do Not "purchase" Amazon ebooks, as you own only your device and if a Kindle even that is conditional. If purchased, download titles immediately. There are BookTubers to guide you towards alternative ebook and device vendors or to ebook purchase altogether.
All Silk searches should be innocuous and non-critical.
Any temporary immunity rests on the whims of deranged employees and members alike. They embrace no recognisable morality, are only restrained by system logs and are US patriots with all that implies. Ominous music ends. 😊
Be safe and may we all discover Good Reading. 🤗

While I felt the first book in this series was off the charts, I was very disappointed with the second book. As I didn’t care for Padma, the wife of the protagonist, in the first book, I was particularly turned off to the idea of this obnoxious and irritating character having a much larger role in the second book. In addition, the nonstop action and fascinating storyline of the first book seemed to have fizzled out by Book Two. Indeed, it might have been for the best if the author had stopped after the publication of the first book in the series.
Many time travel books are based on the premise that you can’t really change history. In this book you can, and it makes for some interesting speculation about what would happen if... Although character dialogue and development isn’t as deep as it could be, this book still entertains and I now look forward to reading the third book. I will have to check to see if there IS a 3rd book out yet. Read book one first or you will be lost in book two.
The second installment of Time Tunnel, “Empire” does not disappoint. Fascinating 19th century historical references and lesson on the Lakota. A crucial character from the first book is reintroduced and will be a part of the third installment. This is a fast yarn and I am looking forward to number three... but I can’t give five stars because of gratuitous political virtue signaling in the first portion of this book. It was an unnecessary distraction.
I can actually just copy & paste the review I wrote for book 1:
I loved this. 4.5 stars.
Minus 1/2 star partly because the pictures/attachments/illustrations were not legible in the e-book. There must be a way to remedy this!
Also because I really don't need a hot romance in order to find a novel -- especially a sci-fi or time travel novel -- riveting. It seems like every novel uses this as a handle to hold reader attention, and I'm tired of it.
This book is even better than the first one. The first half details exactly what might happen if tRump and his MAGAs attained total power. The second part tries to fix our shameful history of our expansionist cruelty towards the Native Americans. Massacring women and children is despicable. I can’t believe I cheered their total victory over the cruel army. Overall I enjoyed it very much and wizzed thru it in 2 days.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
So far I would say the sequel improved upon the first book. I am only 33% through it so far though. I personally don't like the F word but it is easier to ignore in print than on video. I like learning history through novels. I love time travel movies so I thought I would try the novel. So far it's not riddled with type errors like other books I have read on my Kindle.
Time travel makes anything possible. This time travel plot is totally different than others you may have read. It weaves in accurate history as travelers intentionally change events. The characters are believable and the story moves at warp speed. Get ready for the ride!
Being book 2 in the series, Richard was able to jump right into it this time around. While I don't understand the underlying motivations of Kyle and Padma with what they are ultimately trying to do, I think the overall concept is great. This is a fun "what if" time travel book that I recommend for any fans of the genre. I look forward to #3
The second book in the “Time Tunnel” trilogy presented a story that could almost serve as a standalone tale. The author wrote the book in a manner that does not require the reader to have read the first book. Looking forward to the third and final book in the trilogy.
This story is as good as the first novel of this series. You might get whiplash careening backward & forward in time, but the trip just leaves you craving more.
