Whoever said honesty is the best policy is a dirty liar…
Aly Saucer lost her best friend eight years ago. How, you ask? By being honest. She told him not to get married, and he told her to get lost. So, when he comes back to their small town, she has no interest in reconciling with the sexy jerk. Too bad he has other ideas…
Rafael Myers has a few regrets—especially where romance is concerned. But letting Aly go was the biggest mistake of his life. Good thing he has no intention of letting it happen again. Now, all he has to do is convince her to give him a second chance. And to stop hating him…
With years of hurt and a ton of unresolved chemistry between them, can Aly and Rafael find the courage to take a shot at happily ever after? Or will the burden of honesty once again destroy them?

I was so happy to finally get the inside scoop to Aly & Rafes tense relationship. In the previous 3 books, it was always mentioned how they were best friends turned enemies and in this book we finally hear what happened.
This was a spicy, friends to enemies to lovers book and I ate it up. I appreciate that her stories aren’t overly descriptive and quickly cut to the chase. There is no filler here! I look forward to reading more from this author.
I could see the potential of this book but something about it missed the mark. They went from not talking at all to all of a sudden taking each other clothes off and I am still trying to figure out why. It may be a great book to someone else, but it was just okay to me.
So I didn’t know this was the last book in a series because this is my first book I’ve read from Teralyn Mitchell but baby it won’t be my last!
The interconnected stand alone series Rosa Oaks follows a friend group and each book in the series deep dives in their love life. Burden of Honesty highlights Aly and Rafael. From former best friends, to enemies, to lovers this last book in this series was a roller coaster ride that I enjoyed.
Covering topics of heartbreak, success, honesty, transparency, jealousy, and elderly care Teralyn really captured a story that is relatable to many people. Rafael and Aly were the best of friends who low key had feelings for each other. Due to Aly chasing her dreams to be a physician Rafael married her arch nemesis Molly. Being the friend that she is Aly informed Rafael that Molly isn’t the girl for you and instantly Rafael cut Aly out of his life and then the rollercoaster of emotions begins.
Every one of us can take many lessons from this work but the biggest one is honesty and transparency is still a standard in society. Also to… *spoiler* Molly would’ve got Molly Whopped if she were to put her hands on me behind a man… sis would’ve quickly became my patient if I was Aly!
Overall, this was a great introduction to Teralyn Mitchell and I can’t wait to dive into more of her work. 🥀❤️

As I stated in the past, if the setting of the book is a small town give it to me. Oh, and keep it coming. I haven’t read the complete series but this fourth and final book of this series told me everything I needed to know. And I want more!📙📖📖
Rafael completely dropped the ball when it came to his relationship to Aly. Instead of standing on his feelings for her he left a lot of things unsaid. Not to mention marrying the fucking enemy like let’s be so forreal about that. Why would Molly even be an option? But not too much on Rafael, he was young and immature. He clearly didn’t have the necessary skills to express himself properly.💕💕💕 Anyway, Aly was down bad about the breakdown of their relationship. But she didn’t let it hinder her in her professional life. Privately, she ignored the issue which only made the problem worse.
Old feelings must die hard, because the moment they were alone after the initial shock of seeing each other, they were on each other like old lovers. 😏😏
P.S - Molly was such a pick me 🥴 and that’s so unfortunate for her. That girl couldn’t get it together. Why be such a hater 🤣🤣😅?
Burden of Honesty is a wonderful small town romance filled with spice, angst, and a dash of drama.
The story follows Rafe and Aly. They were once best friends, then one fateful day everything changed. Aly asked Rafe not to get married and he ended the friendship then and there. Several years later they are reunited and decide to become something more.
I loved the flashbacks in this book because you get a better understanding of Rafe’s and Aly’s friendship. Miscommunication was a big part of the breakdown of their friendship. When they finally realized they were meant to be ( it was a journey) I definitely cheered!!
This book is steamy. Their love story was decades in the making. So you can imagine how hot it was when they finally gave in to their undeniable attraction.
I enjoyed catching up with characters from past books. Teralyn Mitchell writes the best family and friend dynamics. I am sad this is the last book in the Rosa Parks series. I am going to miss all the couples.
Thank you to Teralyn Mitchell for an ARC of this title.
Aly and Rafael story has finally been told. We find out why their friendship drastically ended and I think it definitely should have at the time. If I was in both shoes I would’ve reacted the same way.
Rafael and Aly gave me cozy vibes. It was almost as if they had no business not being together. I mean it started all the way from when they were kids. They were destined to be in each other’s life, period. They just seemed to work despite ALL of the drama that took place while they were apart for years in their adult years. The drama that plays apart in their story is told at a good pace making it more enjoyable and able to follow.
But Can we talk about all the accountability that was accounted for? Something about when both partners start confessing and being understanding of each other…and at that point I’m just feeling all of the love and happiness, and forevers😮💨😏
Best friends to ex-best friends all because of her being honest with him like they had done since childhood. Now after years apart, can broken hearts and a friendship be fixed? Maybe turned into something more? Something that started and should have been in the first place? After nine years apart can the truth that tore them apart bring them back together again? Oh how I loved reading about Rafael and Aly through the years they were growing up and how close they were. Sometimes, more often than not, hurt feelings lead to doing things that lead to the regret and time lost in being with loved ones. This one spans years but it reads quickly. I read it in one sitting because it was so good. Laughs, heart-break, reunions that led to steamy encounters resulted in a very enjoyable afternoon. Yes, I recommend this one.
Best friends separated by miscommunications get a second chance at friendship and love
Rafael and Aly were neighbors and best friends since Rafe moved in next door to Aly’s home when they were adolescents. As they go through life, always by each other side, challenges and other people never separate them until Aly leaves for college and medical school. And Rafe takes up with Aly’s arch-enemy, thus ruining their friendship.
Rafe returns to town years after ruining his friendship and he and Aly slowly begin the healing process. Which turns to love, always present but under the surface.
Loved the storyline, loved the characters. So glad the biggest antagonist in the story, Molly, doesn’t get to permanently keep Rafe and Aly apart this time around.
This is the trope worth everything, Ex Best Friends to Lovers is my new favorite. Aly and Rafael are finally at the forefront of the Rosa Oaks series and I am not disappointed. To finally see the full story of how these two ended their long time friendship then to watch it be healed was just... perfect.
You get both perspectives of how things went from start to finish and it just made everything seem so freeing. For me, I think the highlight of the relationship was how both characters owned up to their mistakes, their shortcomings and they were all the best for it, it helped them really grow, which made their romance absolute perfection.
Received an eARC in exchange for an honest review through the author group.
Once Rafe and Aly got out of their own way, they made an adorable couple together. They had such a strong backstory and I’m glad Aly gave Rafael a second chance. We got to see glimpses of them in the other books but I loved that we finally got their full story!
I feel like best friends to enemies to lovers can be a tricky trope to get right but this book really pulled it off!
It was also nice to see all the family and friends from the other couples in the Rosa Oaks series! They had such a close knit community and had me envious of their bonds.
I don’t know if this is the last book in Rosa Oaks or not but I cannot wait for whatever is next for Teralyn Mitchell!
I love a good second chance romance and as a fan of the Rosa Oaks series I’m excited to finally read Aly and Rafael’s story. Years ago Aly asked her best friend not to marry her high school bully. But instead of choosing her he kicked her out of his wedding and his life. Now back babysitting his 2 nephews, Rafael is ready to get Aly back into his life for good. Aly and Raf have great chemistry, even when they’re at odds. It’s clear that their miscommunication is what led to their separation and it was really mature of them to work through obstacles that came up (looking at you Molly). Burden of Honesty is the perfect ending to this series and I’m sad to say goodbye to these characters.
This was an easy read. Aly and Rafe were bffs. The day before his marriage she is honest with him and tells him he shouldn't marry her. He blows it way out of proportion and k7cks her out of his wedding party and his life. Fast forward he returns to his hometown, divorced, and sees her again. He wants to talk about what happened and his feelings. She's having none of that, until she is. Their reconciliation to second chance and sexy tome happens quickly. I'll be honest I wasn't sure why she gave in so quickly. This is a second chance romance.
I have really been enjoying the journey in the small town of Rose Oaks, and this was such an enjoyable addition to the series. Although they had to go their separate ways and endure different paths, I loved how they eventually worked out their differences. The drama between Aly and Rafe was some of my favorite moments. Add to the fact the accountability moments, made this such an enjoyable read. So happy to have found such another wonderful and enjoyable black romance author. I can't wait for the author's next book.
This is the fourth book in the series and while technically a standalone story reading the previous books will fill out the supporting characters. This one is a friends to enemies to lovers story that has flashbacks to fill in the pieces of the past. Ms. Mitchell once again gives us a delightful story worth spending your time reading.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Took me a little longer to read this book because I refused to DNF it, I had high hopes for it bc I really liked splintered hearts. I felt like it was missing something. Was it a cute read yes it was that’s why I gave it 3 instead of anything under I guess I just was looking for more.
This was such a cute fast read for me.. I really liked Aly and Rafe.. I’m so happy with how their story went.. so Wholesome.. small town ex-best friend to lover’s troupe..
