The last man Miranda Buffet loved took everything from her. She throws herself into the preservation of Spencer's historic schoolhouse only to be drawn into the orbit of a handsome, infuriating architect. On his first independent project, Declan Elliot's reputation and future hang in the balance. He's unprepared for his attraction to the spirited granddaughter of Spencer's wealthy patriarch, but when they end up in bed together, their passion is as deep and fathomless as Colorado's Twin Owl Lake. Will Miranda risk her wounded heart to this self-made building designer? Can Declan overcome his habitual disdain for the heiress and her entitled family?
I enjoyed this story. She has woven the experience of small-town life through her well-developed characters. The heroine must overcome past heartbreak, current anxieties, and family expectations in order to take a chance on a happy future. Very believable.
Debra Hines delivers more Aspen Gold magic in her debut book. Call me Mandy is a fantastic addition to the Aspen Gold series. Her characters are so genuine and their struggles and flaws are so true of my struggles and flaws and those of my friends. They are people you want to meet and hang out with. Mandy and Declan both have some pretty big obstacles from their lives that they are overcoming. The good and bad in their pasts collide in a whirlwind of feelings and emotions that land all over the spectrum. Their story is unique and captivating. I couldn't stop thinking about the characters and what was happening in Spencer, Colorado. I had to read more. Warning - don't read for 'just 15 minutes before you go to work, you may be late to work. True story. Jump right into Aspen Gold - you'll be glad you did!
After reading “Dancing in the Dark,” by Cheryl St.John, I hadn’t realized until recently that there were other books that followed in the story-line of Spencer, Colorado, and the powerful family that resided there. Now I’ve completed Book Two and loved it. I love the continuity, the dynamics of family and the businesses they run plus the dedication they have to preserve the history of the area. I love the fact that there are second chances in life and love. Miranda loses her best friend and cousin; she lost her marriage and the child she wanted to adopt; and, she might lose the historical project she has long wanted to preserve. Would she ever find love again? Would she get enough contributions to save the old school house? Would Declan ever realize she was the gal for him? These questions are all outlined in this book and I loved every minute of the story.
So glad I grabbed this book. I love real characters and Mandy’s believable—she’s lost loved ones, she’s not perfect, but cares deeply for the important people in her life. So much so she nearly gives up her own chance at happiness. Declan learns a few things about Spencer and his business partner the hard way. In the midst of his professional disaster, he meets Mandy. And he has his work cut out for him if he has any hope to make Mandy his. Especially since She’s surrounded by the Spencer clan—people he sees as entitled and elitist. You’ll enjoy this read!
Call Me Mandy by Debra Hines was a hard book to get interested in, at first. But around the fourth of the book, I couldn’t put it down! Mandy has a lot of drama going on in her life and so moving back to Spencer, Colorado like the logical choice with family and friends. Meeting architect Declan Elliot was not part of her plans! Working together and playing together helped these two lost souls find happiness and contentment. Putting the past behind and looking forward to the future together seemed like a plan.
What I loved about this book is it's a real story about starting over, picking up the pieces, making yourself move on. Both Mandy and Declan have issues to overcome. They aren't always perfect but that makes them more believable! Am really loving this series.
Miranda - known as Mandy to her friends and family - has recently come out of a bad marriage, and returns 'home' to Spencer. Declan is a talented architect, and has just found out his business partner has cut and run...leaving Declan to bear the brunt of the financial loss.
Add to this the complication of Mandy's vow to her best friend that she would look after her husband and sons when she's dead, one of said sons acting out in anger, and a grandfather who is the patriarch of the town - and you have Call me Mandy.
Perhaps I expected too much out of this one, but it seemed like everything moved entirely too fast. On the other hand, and speaking from experience, when you know - you know.
An interesting concept. Various authors write in the same world with some characters popping up in other authors' books. There is a suggestion that these books are best read in sequence, but they are all complete stories with a "Happy Ever After" ending. If you read these books in order you may find that you already know some of the elements that make up the story in the book you are reading as things happen in the same timeline to different "couples". A nice read.
