The book that all Catholic voters need to buy, read, and then share with their family and friends before the 2020 election! (Or better yet, buy them all copies.) If you are already a Trump supporter, it will provide you with the arguments needed to better articulate your support for him.If you are a Republican who voted against him in 2016, it will outline why you, as a conservative-leaning Catholic, should vote for him in 2020.If you are a non-radical Catholic Democrat, it will convince you, if your party&;s candidates have not done so already, that the Democrat leadership does not actually care about you and your concerns, but Donald Trump does.If you are an Independent, it will convince you that the way in which the D.C. establishment of both parties, &;the Swamp,&; so ferociously opposed Trump means he must be doing something right. And if you are a Hispanic Democrat, Romero will tell you why he supports Trump on immigration and why you should too. In these pages, Romero and McCullough combine extensive research, straight talk, and a humorous, punchy style with quotes from the Catechism, the popes, and some of the best Catholic writers and thinkers of the 20th century&;and some non-Catholics as well&;to make the case that Donald Trump is the only choice in 2020.
Jesse Romero holds a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Mount St Mary's College in Los Angeles and he has a Master’s Degree in Catholic Theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio. Before and since then, he has spent his time teaching, speaking, writing, and giving Bible studies and conferences on all matters Catholic. Jesse also serves at the parish level as the director of religious education at a small, but growing, parish 40 minutes north of Los Angeles, CA. Jesse speaks to groups and at conferences about the Bible, the Catholic Church, Biblical theology, and numerous other Catholic topics.
After rediscovering his Catholic roots, Jesse studied and prayed his way back to a fervent on-going practice of the Catholic Faith. Through his experiences with non-Catholics and fallen-away Catholics alike, Jesse is well-versed on all Catholic issues and topics and, as a bilingual speaker, and specializes in evangelization, youth events, apologetics seminars, conferences of all sizes, and bible studies.
As the proud parents of Paul, AnnMarie, and Joshua, Jesse and his wife Anita have been happily married for 28 years.
The good fight against anti-Catholic bigotry starts here
The Democrat Party has nominated the most anti-Catholic ticket to ever run for leadership of this country. Joe Biden claims to be Catholic but displays no signs of Church teachings. Kamala Harris is a religious bigot, an enemy of the Knights of Columbus, a proponent of abortion and infanticide. She is the most liberal member of the U.S. Senate. She is just a younger version of bigot Hillary Clinton. President Trump is the most PRO-Life president we have ever had and the most PRO-Israel president we have ever had. As a Catholic, there are 5 "Non-Negotiables" of our faith that President Trump supports and Harris-Biden do not: 1. Socialism/Marxism is immoral, 2. Euthanasia is immoral, 3. The state must allow Catholics to worship, 4. Abortion is murder, and 5. Parents have right to educate their children (school choice).
Its only use is as a study in propaganda. Someone gave this to me and I had hoped for a well-reasoned argument based in Catholic teachings to round out my understanding of the two candidates, but this is not it.
A Catholic Vote for Trump, by Jeremy Romero and John McCullough gives us a realistic view of our current president, his accomplishments and his plans for our future. More importantly, it provides evidence of his thinking parallel with that of the Church.
Co-author Jeremy Romero knows about life and Catholicism. He is a retired Los Angeles Cop, a graduate of St. Mary’s College in L. A. and has a Graduate Degree in Theology from Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio. His co-author, John McCullough is author of many books and teaches creative writing at the Open University and the University of Sussex, where he earned a doctorate for his thesis on friendship in English Renaissance writing.
This book is not just for Catholics, but for all people who love this country, regardless of religion, race, or any other arbitrary social category. It is especially good for those who are undecided. But, I strongly encourage those who committed to Biden to read this book, not because they might change their minds, but so they can understand why the “Trumpers” love this president and know that their friends who vote for him are not crazy. Perhaps it will help pull our great country together again.
Each chapter begins with a quote from Scripture, the Catholic Catechism, The Council of United States Catholic Bishops, or some other notable religious person. These are not just short “sound bites”, but well thought out, short essays. And most references in the text include a URL link to the original document.
The introduction begins with a quote from Archbishop Sheen: “Nothing can do men of good will more harm than apparent compromises with parties that subscribe to anti-moral and anti-democratic and anti-God forces. We must have the courage to detach our support from men who are doing evil.”
The authors then remind readers that the Catholic Church holds Abortion as evil and then point out that all of the Democrat presidential candidates, 20 some at that time, are pro-abortion. But, President Trump has proven himself a pro-lifer opposed to abortion, holds religious freedom as “sacred”, and seeks to retain the Bill of Rights as intended by the founding fathers by appointing justices who have had a history of being Constitutionalists.
Chapter 2 begins with this quote from the Catholic Catechism: “Everyone should be able to draw from work the means of providing for his life and that of his family, and of serving the human community.” The authors comment: Nothing “…captures the genuine love that Donald Trump has for the American people [better] than his approach to the economy and his relentless drive to restore the possibility of prosperity for all of the nation’s citizens.”
Consider his bringing manufacturing jobs back to the States, the record employment growth for all Americans, and an increase of individual wealth – especially for the middle and lower economic classes. Of course, the Covid 19 pandemic has changed much of that, but as we return to work under his leadership rapid growth will restore and likely surpass those records.
Likewise, the Catechism states: “The Church has rejected the totalitarian and atheistic ideologies associated in modern times with “communism” or “socialism.” She has likewise refused to accept, in the practice of “capitalism,” individualism and the absolute primacy of the law of the marketplace over human labor… Reasonable regulation of the marketplace and economic initiatives, in keeping with a just hierarchy of values and a view to the common good, is to be commended.”
Trump has reversed many of the regulations which give employees as well as employers headaches, increase the cost of doing business, and slow job growth. The United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA), which he negotiated has increased wages in Mexico and the US and increased US jobs.
Appendix 2 lists dozens, if not hundreds, of documented bills and regulations Trump has signed that increase the standard of living of all of us. This list alone is worth the cost of buying the book.
My favorite chapter is the conclusion. It begins with a quote form G. K. Chesterton: “I would rather a boy learnt in the roughest school the courage to hit a politician, or gained in the hardest school the learning to refute him – rather than that he should gain in the most enlightened school the cunning to copy him.”
After telling how and why Trump developed the virtues he has, Author Romero says: “Some Catholics will tell you they vote for the man despite his character. They are wrong. You should vote for him precisely because of his character, for only a man of his character, warts and all, could have taken on the corrupt establishment and won. Donald Trump is a leader of men, but more than that, he is a virtuous man, granted imperfectly so, but aren’t we all sinners? (cf. Rom 3:23)?” (Emphasis mine).
Then he defines the cardinal virtues he attributes to Trump, prudence, justice, temperance, and fortitude, by quoting the definition of each virtue from the “Catholic Catechism”, and shows how Trump personifies each one of them. He finishes the book with: “We will leave this look at the virtues of Donald Trump at the four cardinal ones; the three theological virtues seem to be somehow more personal. But we will note that the president has fought the good fight for the people who elected him. When all is said and done, President Trump, if he succeeds in his struggle against the corrupt establishment, will have done much to restore the average citizen’s faith in his government; he already has done much to instill hope in millions around the country who had none - hope for the future and the future of their children, and he has loved his people, who in turn have loved him. Looking from afar, it seems to us that he strives to love God and hope in him and love him in his own imperfect way. But more importantly in his role as president, he will fight to the death to allow us Catholics to live out our lives of faith and hope and love in a free society. May God bless President Donald John Trump!” Even if you are a Trump-hating Democrat Atheist, you should read this book to see why your Trump loving friends plan to vote for him. You’ll not regret it!
Even though I am a Trump supporter, I never knew of all of his accomplishments while he was president. The authors of this book do a great job showing all the good that this man did for our country. It is a great read.
If I'm being honest, this is a case of me WANTING to like this book more than I actually did. With that said, by the ending, it sorta ties everything together, but ultimately I think it could have been a couple pages shorter. It spends an awful lot of time on the Russian Collusion narrative which feels slightly out of place; the argument they're making is valid, but it doesn't need so much intricate detail. I get the sense they wanted to cover "Obamagate" and segued into it. With that said, the other topics (the media, foreign policy, social justice) are what one expects from a book like this. A little too tounge-in-cheek for my taste, but certainly one that makes the same arguments as Sebastian Gorka's "The War For America's Soul."
This is a short, easily digestible book for those who don't follow politics. The author is a regular contributor at Catholic Answers - a very mainstream Catholic theology/apologetics forum. A former pro-life Democrat, Romero's angle is to persuade other Catholics, especially Hispanic Americans like himself, of the urgency with which they ought to abandon the DFL party and reconcile their views with President Trump.
While bearing an obvious predilection for Trump, Romero and supporting author John McCullough are careful to cite sources that are regularly neutral towards or even generally opposed to Trump's leadership. This is especially true when dealing with the debacle of the impeachment trial and Russian investigation - large swaths of which are borrowed from independent bloggers.
While this book didn't change my mind per se, it DID help direct me to additional reading that allowed me to form my own opinions about Trump's policy-making, the investigation into his alleged corruption, and a Catholic view of his leadership (and his opponents' behaviors).
In an age of emotion, animus, and misinformation driving our conversations and decision-making, it was interesting to sit down and read a well organized and factual presentation of what key elements should go into a Catholic voters decision-making. I've talked to so many people who have said, "I never heard that" or "I was told this," when the reality was quite different. The country is at cross-roads heading towards or away from the nation, we have been called to be. Whether you love or hate the current President, I think we should all have the courage and desire to know the facts, even if they don't agree with what we want to desperately to hear. I would highly recommend this book before election time - it could actually save lives. Nice job, Jesse and John.
This was a FANTASTIC read in the weeks leading up to the election that gave concrete evidence from the Catechism directly relating to current events in our political realm. Much needed sound truth is rooted in the pages of this book. So much was highlighted that stood out but the one sentence of truth that sticks out the most is the fact that the media is now the propaganda arm of the Democratic party and has been used as such to sway the American people away from the truth of the DEEP corruption in D.C.
Is Trump a modern day Cyrus as some evangelicals and conservative Catholics claim? Cyrus was the ancient Persian king who allowed the Jews to return to their land and rebuild the temple. Would another four years of a Trump administration help up preserve our religious liberties? Let the reader decide!
I highly recommend this book to everyone no matter what your religious or political affiliation may be. This book will make one think in regards to what is happening in our country now and what is in store for our future. Jesse Romero did an excellent job with the writing of this book.
Some of this was an overview of information that is available in many other adequately readable political literature published in the past year or so. What makes this book an exception to all of those is the couplings of Catholic Doctrine, Scripture, and history to make a compelling argument.
This book is fact and not fiction. It is filled with dates and timelines that help one fully realize what the Deep State is all about, but also how bad it is.
