Iron Serpent #3

Warring Magic

Rate this book
She warned them to leave her alone.
They didn’t listen.

All Kiema wanted was to fix and master the power coursing through her body. To spend the rest of her days with her chosen family in peace. All she needed was one more mate and two guardians to complete the rune branded in her skin. But just like all of her plans, this one was destined to fail.

Caught between warring gods and a group of magical fanatics led by her psychopathic adoptive mother, Kiema finally joins the fight that has wrecked her life. This time, together with her stronger and bigger family, she’s playing for keeps. And she’s almost got all the power she needs to win.

But when two of her enemies join forces against her, will she fall under the spell of the magic that courses through her blood, or will she cling to the life and family she’s prayed for all these years?

Warring Magic is book three in the Iron Serpent Chronicles by Sadie Jacks. If you like paranormal mystery, snarky and badass female characters, and drool-worthy men, Warring Magic will steal your sleep.

To be honest, I haven't enjoyed any of the three books out but they were way better than this one.

Spoilers Ahead

Review for Books 1-3

So the first book starts with Keima being a healer who can't be touched, she is a prisoner who heals at her parents whims. She's made plans to escape during one of the healing sessions her parents force her to do. Ransom, the guys who shes supposed to heal is very handsome and in the typical RH way, she immediately starts lusting after him. She heals him and discovers that she can be touched by him. They have sex, sex where Ransom has no regards for her and is literally choking her and making her gag on his d*ck. Keima is upset but who can remain upset when the lust is strong, not Keima.

Ransom who has other buddies that want to be healed as well, reaches out to them to share the wonderful news, of course they are skeptical but thrilled to hear that he's been healed. She decides to try healing them even though anytime she heals anyone she loses a couple of years of her life. She decides to heal them, they are all excited, they see that shes hot and Ransom is all over so they all want her as well. So much so that they "forgot" to turn off the video after their call. Yes, only one person saw it but still that was very distasteful. Was she upset? Nope, who can be upset when the lust is strong, not Keima.

The guys come over and she heals them, she finds out that some of them are her guardians and she doesn't have to have sex with all of them. All of a sudden, its Sister this and sister that. The non harem guys see her as a sister all of a sudden even though one of them had been very thirsty every time they spoke.

They find out that her parents are not her parents and she was adopted. She also has a god living within her. Turns out shes kind of a conduit to a lot of gods because they kept popping in. Anyway, apparently the old world they were in Earth( which was never mentioned as I had assumed they were in earth in the first place. ) is dead and the new world Azica is without magic. Earth had the magic and gods and the whole shebang but then the gods were always fighting and something happened to it, that was never really clear either.

Her not parents are members of a secret society called the Iron Serpent whose main aim is to collect those with magical powers and siphon it to attain godhood? Wasn't really clear either. Her guys kidnap her dad and he's tortured for all he knows. While that is being done, her not mom has made plans with a goddess so that she can get some powers as well. The goddess wants to kill Keima-of course-and take her power but apparently Keima might even be more powerful than the goddess, how and why, there is no coherent answer. Though we meet Keima's actual mother who is a goddess but if Keima could "beat" her own mother then where is her specialness coming from.

Keima at the point has two mates. Ransom and Saint, Saint has a dragon Tennonith living inside him, they are both independent characters, just an fyi. Another goddess who's on Keima's side tells her she would have another mate. Keima goes in trying to find that mate, the mate does not want to be found. Apparently he had infiltrated her not mother's ranks in search for something, we aren't told what. Keima is upset and somehow they mate. That was somewhat confusing.

There were a couple of characters that just came in abruptly and falling in love already. Atlas, one of her "brothers" starts to fall in love with Lucas who literally came out of nowhere. She was kidnapped by the Iron Serpent and he saved her for some reason. Yea, he said because Iron Serpent did something to his sister and he's trying to take them down but that did not ring true with the plot. He was just there to be snarky and be Atlas's plus one. Couple of pages before he was trying to have sex with another guy who according to him he doesn't like but this was due to the magic in the air. Give me break. There were a couple of people in that house and some of them barricaded themselves in their rooms but he was going to f*ck a guy that turned out to be a traitor.

The other guys in the book, her "brothers" who we have to read their POV for no reason found their mate in the third book. The reason why I thought this book sucked even more than the first was that the speed of the insta love was out of this world. So her "brothers" Asher, Taryk and another "T" named guy who I cannot recall all share a mate. So during one of their mission, Asher finds a lady with goat legs and starts to feel all protective towards her. She is on the run from the Iron Serpent as well, she's been abused and is scared of men. She is scared of men for a total of maybe 6 pages before the pornstar extraordinaire comes out. She was literally just found, she had been abused by Keima's fake father and all of a sudden shes having sex with 3 different people. C'mon, I like my RH smutty like anyone else but C'mon.

This was not a very good book. It wasn't even a coherent series. I doubt my review is as easily understandable but that's me, I don't have an editor that can help me put this together in a more cohesive manner. Apparently Sadie Jacks doesn't have one either because this was a mess. I am definitely not reading any more of this series.

WHHATTT??? OK... so everyone is all screw this.. I didn't finish reading this because it is unbelievable... Are you serious??? Are paranormal romances or reverse harems ever all that believable? No.. because the chances of you landing in bed with more than one "mythical" creature are lower than your IQs! Get a grip people! THIS BOOK WAS FLIPPIN PHENOMENAL! I can not wait until Broken Magic comes out this month!!!!!

Y’all I could NOT wait to read this book and it didn’t not disappoint!!!

We continue on our journey with Kiema and her family and my goddess is it good!! Not only does Kiema continue to kickass but we get a more in depth look at some of the characters (I’m swooning over your Atlas) and we are introduced to new character that you can’t help but instantly fall in love with. Plenty of steamy scenes that fit just right ;) and plot development that will rock your world.

Join me as I wait (im)patiently for then next book!!

The more I read of the Iron Serpent Chronicles, the more I want. In the third instalment of Kiema and her Circle of guardians, mates and ultimately family were thrown into heartbreak territory. Bring your tissues, hankies and waterproof devices, you're going to need them. Every step I take into Kiema's world I lose myself a little more. Miss Jacks has created a world I adore and I know you will too. I cannot wait to find out what Kiema and her family get up to next.

Reading Sadie Jacks's 3rd book in the series Warring Magic (Iron Serpent) did a great job of keeping me locked in, super steamy scenes, ultra sexy men, with a little M/M action, sweet guys, and alpha attitudes, great story line with twisty plot, some of the nagging questions leftover from before were answered , only to give you more to look forward to, deep well developed characters, a real page Turner...and the cliffhanger will have you craving more.

Helloooo buffer book.

Not much happens here.

Some awful nicknames.
And really, this MUST stop. Between everyone placing “baby” at the end of each other’s names and then the hideous nicknames they come up with... it just... needs to end.
Like, now.

Some more bonds are formed.
Turns out Xander, Asher, and Taryk are all mates to the new chick Scarlett. Weird pairing if you ask me but okay.
Atlas + Lukas... *sigh* I AM GUSHING OVER THIS. They are so cute together. I approve of this mating.
so who is their mystery man/last guardian?? I can’t wait to see that unfold.
We are introduced to Kiema’s final mate, Kord. What a name lol, Kord. Like aKording to Kiema, Ransom is a Saint.
See what I did there? That was awful. THAT’S HOW AWFUL THE NICKNAMES ARE.

Either way, I’m still intrigued by the cliffhanger ending that made this boring buffer book just slightly more exciting.

At this point, I’m in this series for the steamy sex and to find out the last mate to Atlas + Lukas.
^^^^ that’s it. I’m losing interest fast so I hope book 4 is more promising.

4 Not Broken, Not Wavered, Not Cracked Stars

Warring Magic is the third book in the Iron Serpents series by Sadie Jacks.

Scarlet, a.k.a Cherry, was wholly unexpected. But cherished all the same. Her appearance brought new life to the plot, yanking the primary focus from Kiema. I honestly can’t wait for her to rediscover and grow into herself, in the safety of her new family. And she helped to answer the other guardians worries over their own mates.

That just leaves Lukas and Atlas, along with the final guardian yet to be discovered. It warms my heart that there is a M/M couple, and experiencing their growing relationship alongside the other RH groupings.

This book focused primarily on the inner workings of the Carbon Pack. Showcasing more drama than action. Although, we were present for a killer goddess showdown between Asta and Ki, with Anda coming in with the smack down.

There were definitely some heavy aspects; ranging all along the abuse spectrum for individual pack members. This book helped to outline each guardian or mates past and distinguish them from each other. There were some shocking revelations, that hurt to uncover. They all carry so much pain, and it’s beyond heartening that they have found a safety in each other.

Scarlet is my best friend! I love her. She is so strong and sweet and I want to never let her go. Asher is adorable with how much he cares for her. Chocolate covered cherries. *Swoon* Not too sure about Keima's new lover but it's still early. Love all these characters and their journey they're taking.

After the first two books I could not wait to know what happened next! This book surprised me with its twists and turns. It kept me on my toes the whole time and kept my attention sucked in. Where all I wanted to do was keep reading! Get ready for you to think you know what’s happening just to get surprised! Also got to love the “fun” times, and humor that just makes you laugh out loud!

Wow!

The title of the first book of the series out me off from starting it at first. It looked like any other in a long line of "surprise you have magic" stories , but I was SO wrong!

The Iron Serpent Chronicles is unique, exciting, sexy and fun. All without making you want to throttle the MC or any of her crew!

I like this alternate universe. The action is as good as always. I'm finally following this author so I won't miss a thing. I really like how smooth the transition is from one book to the next.

Loved it!!

Definitely a RH with two different couples. There are sex scenes also, they are well written into the story so it's not just all sex but if you aren't into that then this probably isn't the book for you. Otherwise it had plenty of action and a good plot!

Warring Magic is quite possibly the best of the Iron Serpent Chronicles...so far!
Okay. Let's be real here. I have legit just written five different ways to write this review and deleted each of them. Why? Because Kiema, Ransom, Atlas, all of them, they are far to amazingly written for me to give them a deserving review. So, I will stick to some basics here. 1. Sadie Jacks took reverse harems to a whole new level with Warring Magic. 2. MANY questions from Caged and Wild were answered, but 3. On the flip side, MANY questions sprang up! All good questions, though, about where the characters are going next, and when will we see more of them, etc. Jacks's heart and soul are definitely residing in Kiema and her family. I can not wait to see where they go next! <3

This book is a lot better than the last one. Things made sense, the relationships in the group were more natural, and flowed better. This book allowed us to see the group interact more, especially with newcomer Lukas, who is my new favorite character. Him and Asher had me laughing so much, there were times I had to pause reading so I could wipe the tears from my eyes. I need an Asher and Lukas in my life.

There's more action in this book, and we get to see how awesome Kiema is when she's protecting her family. She's slowly been getting more powerful throughout the series, and that comes to a head in this book. She also finally stands up to her parents. Things that you have been waiting for to happen, finally happen and the wait is so worth it, trust me. Kiema and her guys grow closer and it's so adorable. I love how everyone is a family, and they are all overprotective of each other.

More characters are introduced in this book, and I love them all. They are great additions to the group, like they were meant to be there the whole time. Overall, this book is action-packed but it also has soft moments, like with the whole group, between Kiema and her mates, and even when the new members join. I would go from laughing so hard, to saying "aw" at the adorable moments, to ugly crying, and then starting the cycle all over again. This book was an emotional rollercoaster, but it was so worth it.

The only problem I had with this book was how people treated Lukas. To me, some of the times when people were mad at him, I did not see reason for it. To me, several of those times people overreacted. I love Lukas and I love his dry humor, so I was feeling a little protective of him and I don't think he deserved a lot of what happened between him and the group. It bothered me a lot, which is why I'm giving this book four stars and not five.

Other than that, though, it was a good book and I can't wait to read the next one.

Original take on a popular genre

Not what I was expecting at all. It was hot, steamy and original. I love the multi-facetted relationships and the powerful characters. I am enjoying the story and the battles of the character's inner demons. I think that it was really brave to focus on how the character's abusive childhoods shaped their personalities and relationships. I also appreciated how the sex scenes (and there are many of them in this series) are not glossed over and adult conversations surrounding consent and boundaries were had. All in all, I am impressed with the series.

Kiema still has things to learn and master about her magic. Luckily, she has Anda to help her with that. However, Anda cannot be there all the time and Kiema must adjust by herself.

In this third book, Two nice guys (1 man and 1 woman) are added to the crew of this newly constituted family and Four very nasty bad persons will be taken care of permanently with one very good woman exiting while doing the ultimate sacrifice, sacrificing herself to save a loved one.

This is a series of books that keep readers on their toes with the unpredictable present at every corner.
I rate this book with 5 Stars.

My review is short because I don't want to give away any of the spoilers.

As much as it can get kind of confusing switching between the POV, especially if you aren’t paying attention, I absolutely cannot tell y’all enough how much I love this world that Sadie has created. The characters all have depth, passion and I absolutely love the snark that comes from Asher. I love the way she has tied everyone together it isn’t something I would have expected at the very beginning of book one!

Some confusion

The group has gotten much bigger and I am noticing a theme where one woman is with three men. I finally see where Xander is in all of this. His place in the group was very confusing. There were a few moments of confusion with who was actually talking but overall the story was enjoyable. I love Scarlet and I am interested to see if there is a third woman like I think there will be.

I am once again sucked into the story, reading way past reasonable hours. The development of the group surrounding Kiema. The dynamic in the group and the humor combined with the horror of what some deem acceptable behavior is amazing. What is good - what is evil? The questions seem to just get bigger and bigger. Good thing next book is out soon! I can't wait to see where it all leads.

Plot, Story, Character Development

Great plot. Great story. I'm definitely invested in what happens next and really like the book. Character development seems off to me from the first book, kind of feels like it's all forced but you love them so much that you don't write the book off because of it.

Bear necessities

See now I thought I was going crazy but there are parts missing from the book. Because wth happened between Ransom and Saint when Herpes highjacked Kiema? It’s a tad bit implied but not really. Just write the dang story and stop skipping scenes. And it always seems to get better at the end of the book.
