Zoey Martin and the heroine from the previous book have developed a new range of clothing that is bullet resistant. And only in a matter of months, I can assume! At her big fashion show reveal, Zoey is deliberately shot to demonstrate her clothing line's effectiveness. Unaware of the ruse is her ex-boyfriend, Eli Wayne, who is at the fashion show (for reasons never clearly identified) and runs to her rescue.

Anyway, it turns out that there is a bounty out for Zoey's brother, Chad. This makes Zoey a target, as hitmen everywhere might want to use her as a way to get to her brother. So Eli plans to protect her while they try to find out who wants her brother dead, with the evidence indicating that it is an order from an international government. Eli is an assassin, so he accepts the assignment in the hope he can learn more about the hit.

At first I gave this one star. I was confused for bits and pieces of it. But I actually went back and read the last couple of chapters slowly and carefully (lol) and was mostly able to piece together what had been going on. Obviously, if the writing was better, I wouldn't have had to do that in the first place. I still think the climax was rushed and confusing. But I will concede it's not the complete waste of time the previous book was, and the relationship between Zoey and Eli was the most consistent and believable I've read from this author thus far. Zoey and Eli's relationship crumbled because she suffered a stillborn death of their baby two years prior, and neither knew how to handle something so devastating. The book at least has them discussing their past and trying to work through it, and that aspect rang true.

However, even with this book being considerably shorter than most Intrigue stories, I could feel the padding. The h and H muse over all manner of things to themselves internally, sometimes for pages and pages. (Check out chapter 4 for an example. Sheesh! It was insane.) The middle section really sags and plods along.

Some parts made my head hurt. At one point, Zoey is unsure who her and Mindy might have sent samples of their bulletproof clothing to. Even Mindy is unsure. Then it turns out they sent samples to several world leaders! I mean, if you're going to send samples of your product to people, wouldn't you have a record of it, because you'd need that information in the first place to actually send it??? And how could you forget you sent your product to fucking WORLD LEADERS????

Stupid shit like that, as minor as it is, just takes me out of the story.

And don't get me started on the bit where the h and H have sex while they're being held hostage. WTF??? Really???

This was clunky and not written very well, but it had a smattering of okay moments, and like I said, Zoey and Eli's relationship baggage was believable and, unlike something you might get from Delores Fossen, they actually talk about it.

Weathering the Storm

Zoey is much like her favorite maple tree growing up, she provides the unyielding strength and grounding roots for her siblings out in the field risking their lives, while she provides behind the scenes tech support to them. Like the tree's canopy, she provides protection, not just for her family, but for the innocent as well through her newly launched tactical gear and fashionable bullet proof clothing line. Little did she know that within a day of her fashion show demonstration, she would be protecting those she loved with her soon to be released Monster Wear gear.

Even the strongest trees have a breaking point. Zoey's strength and resolve are tested throughout this book thanks to a hit being placed on her brother. The Gray Wolves and those looking to cash in on the multi-million dollar contract don't care who gets in the way. Will she crack and break when the pressure comes to her front door? Or follows her across the world? Will she be caught in the crossfire, and will the rot brought upon her family infect others around her, like the charming assassin Eli, who could easily use her to get to her brother. Or like the strong maple, will Zoey weather the storm.

Danica does it again with another strong female lead, torn between the pain of her past relationship and the promise of what the new growth could bring. She struggles with her passion for an old flame and not wanting to repeat the mistakes of her past. He's a gentleman, giving her the space to figure out what she wants without any pressure, but can't help the passion that flares up every time he gets near her.

I love that the book is set in the Pacific Northwest and does a great job building suspense and weaving military style covert ops into her Stealth series. Looking forward to diving into the next action packed romance story, Protective Operation!

Zoey is the third member of the Martin family to get her own book and hers kicks off with a relative bang, when she makes an appearance at a conference in Billings to demonstrate their company’s new line of tactical wear. As part of her demonstration one of her employees shoots her to the horror of the audience, including her old boyfriend and a previous STEALTH operative, Eli Wayne. Eli runs to her and is stunned to see exactly how well the new Monster Wear line works when Zoey is relatively unhurt. (Quick aside-I loved this part!) After Zoey finishes her presentation they have a brief discussion but it doesn’t last long before she is called away.

Eli is left stunned to have seen her again, but he also feels guilty because he did not share an important piece of information with her: there is a contract worth $5M out on her brother Chad and his new employer is one of many vying for the prize. He decides to try and follow her after she leaves the conference as nobody knows where she and the other Martin siblings are hiding out while trying to keep off the radar of the Gray Wolves. He is able to track her phone until he reaches the general area of the Widow Maker Ranch, and following hunches is able to locate her just in time to save her from an attacker. Eli holds up with Zoey and two of her brothers overnight before finally confessing not only his knowledge of the hit out on Chad but the fact he hs accepted the contact from his employer! (You can just imagine how well that went over with Zoey-hint, she wasn’t pleased!) The story quickly takes off from there as Zoey and Eli must try to determine Chad’s location, and then head out in an attempt to save not only him but themselves from the clutches of an unknown enemy.

The action in the latter half of the book is intense, and I adored the relationship between Zoey and Eli. They have never forgotten what they once had and each must acknowledge their own responsiblility for the breakup while still working together to try to find and save Chad. Will they be able to reach him in time and also rebuild their relationship in the process?

Thank you to the author for the review copy, however all opinions are my own.

Harlequin books are always helpful with the Cast of Characters at the beginning, not only for those who have not read the previous books, but also too those who have, but need a reminder. Perhaps because I did not read the previous books, I had a hard time empathizing or relating at all to either Zoey Martin or Eli Wayne. Zoey's family owns a private government contracting company. She and Eli had worked together in the field, and become lovers, but when she miscarried their baby, she shoved him out the door and he went to work for the competition. She shattered his heart- and closed off her own. But now her brother Chad is missing, and Eli's company has put a hit out on him. So Eli accepts the contract so he can keep both Chad and Zoey safe. I love second chance stories, but when they left the family ranch, without making arrangements for the horses, my mind kept doubling back to "who is taking care of Sarge?". Why bring him up and then abandon him?

I loved Her Assassin for Hire. This is my favorite so far in the Stealth series. I loved the relationship between Eli and Zoey, while heartbreaking their love shines through and I think they are the perfect couple. A very exciting story that put these characters in danger and they need each other to survive. I'm very excited to read the next book in the Stealth series Look for Protective Operation.

I give Her Assassin for Hire 5 stars for its thrilling story.
I would recommend this story to fans of Intrigue and Romance.

This book relied on a cast of hypercompetent characters who tended to make bafflingly poor decisions whenever the author needed to put them in danger. Also, the mystery plot mostly resulted in the feeling that there was a second story arc off-page that was really needed to make this story stand up on its own. That said, the book was good enough for when I needed a way to pass the time while working in areas where I couldn't bring a phone or an ebook reader, and is far from the worst book I've ever read.

Talk about well written this one is. Its a great second chance romance between Zoey Martin and Eli Wayne. There is a mystery that Danica has in the story that gets your interested from the beginning. The way they feel about each other shows from the start to the finish. The flow shows from the previous book. Its a great story and worth reading. Looking forward to the next book. J

The storyline was pretty okay, but I felt like I would have definitely enjoyed it more had I read the other books in the series first. It was still an alright read.

It was okay

I enjoyed this story a little bit. The characters were ok. Spent a little too much time living in the past. But in the end they loved each other.

Her Assassin For Hire by Danica Winters
Have totally enjoyed this series and the books and stories just keep getting better and better.
Starts with a brief summary of the book and praise from other readers, Book listings are highlighted by series and I also find I can read them in any order and can start with the 3rd book and not be lost as you are brought up to date on past events...
Love the cast of characters as I just read a book in this series a month ago and have read some other 300 books so it's awesome to catch up with who is who.
Starts with Zoey and she's putting on a fashion show to not only highlight the garments STEALTH currently makes and is marketing but the weapons as well.
She does not let a minute slip by that she relates her story about her sister that is now dead and how some of the items would've prevented her death. She also notices her ex, Eli is in the audience when she takes a bullet. It's all a stunt as she's protected but she takes a hand from him to get up as she continues her speech to the audience.
After she leaves she is on high alert to be sure she's not being followed. On the ranch she heads to the barn and the horses and is captured but she's able to escape with help...
They combine forces and hightail it to Spain where she's noticed Chad was in a video.
Love all the action and adventures there and sensual romance and sex scenes, new places for me to discover the secrets that lurk behind them as a couple, update on other family members.
They are also tangled up in another mess of things when they summon help. Love the ending and the promise they made to one another after they were captured.
Love the tech work she is able to do to find all kinds of useful information-so so so observant.
Excerpt from The Final Secret by Cassie Miles is also attached at the end.
Next book is this series will be out in March.
I received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Assassin or friend? That's a good question.

Eli Wayne is a black ops assassin and works for a company looking to collect a five million dollar reward. He accepts, but doing the job is the last thing on his mind as he works closely with Zoey Martin to find her brother before he's dead.

Zoey Martin works in the family business, STEALTH, a government contract company. Learning there's a price on her brother's head, she turns to Eli to help find him before he's dead.

Bullets fly as they race the clock to find Chad. Is Eli really helping Zoey or is he going to fulfill the contract? Will they find Chad or will they all end up dead? Will the past between them help or hinder the efforts?

An edge of the seat action packed book. I did not put this book down until the very end and was ready for more. Danica Winters has done it again. Thank you for the fabulous read.

The third in the STEALTH series is an excellent addition. I'm ready for more.

Not bad. It was cute and really romantic. Not much for the action and the ending was too short. I guess Winters was going for a brief happily ever after.
