Decades after a matador's final fight, an unexpected rival returns. Two thieves steal ancient Egyptian treasure, setting off an unexpected chain of events. What must a hunter do after killing a god's sacred bull?
TAURUS is a collection of twisted poems and dark stories inspired by this fascinating Zodiac sign, as well as retellings of the myths behind the sign. The tales span multiple genres, including science fiction, horror, and fantasy, and are told by award-winning authors and new stars of the Australian and New Zealand speculative fiction scene.
This is the fifth instalment in a collection of speculative fiction stories and poems inspired by the Zodiac signs. TAURUS has retellings of the ancient Greek myth of the Minotaur, heart-wrenching sci-fi tales (Brianna Bullen's story 'Meet Me By The Moon While I'm Flicking Through a Cheap Magazine Talking About Astrology' is a standout), fantasy and horror pieces all inspired by the Zodiac sign. There are bulls aplenty, but each author weaves a unique, gripping tale about them. We're talking ancient Egyptian mummified bulls, we're talking cybernetically enhanced bulls, we are talking bulls who are gods, or bulls who are sent by gods. This collection features stories in various writing styles; long pieces, short pieces, and even poems (such as Jenny Blackford's wonderful 'Pleiades') which gives the anthology a unique and engaging feel. It's ridiculously hard to choose a favourite from this collection, but P. A. Mason's 'Displeasure of the Gods', Lee's 'A Tale of Hearts and Horns' and 'The Body in the Wall' by Herczeg are all in the mix along with Bullen and Blackford's pieces mentioned earlier. TAURUS is a great collection, and anthologies like this are an excellent way to find and support talented Australian and Kiwi authors.
