Navy SEAL Finds Freedom, Love and Redemption in the Christian Romantic Suspense, Crying in the Wilderness, by Rebecca Hartt
-- Present Day, Virginia Beach, Virginia --
Rachel LeMere has prayed for deliverance. When her husband died, his brother provided for her and her eleven-year-old son, Cody, but at a price Rachel finds increasingly abhorrent. A haven beckons many states away, but in order to reach it, Rachel must disappear such that no one can ever find her.
The bad boy of SEAL Team Twelve, Saul Wade is an experienced and successful sniper. He's stunned when the beautiful and soft-spoken woman who has intrigued him for months suddenly begs a favor of him. Risking his career to help, he arranges an elaborate rescue operation to deliver her and her son halfway across the country.
Using his childhood home in Oklahoma as a temporary safe haven, Saul works through the challenges of getting her and Cody to Texas. Tortured by the things he’s done in the line of duty, Saul shares pieces of his past with Rachel, while she shares with him her faith in God that has sustained her through hardship.
Saul ships Rachel and Cody off to Texas, only to feel their absence like a bullet to the heart. At their sudden and unexpected return, Saul moves toward reconciliation with his creator and a whole new life he never thought he deserved--if only he can keep evil incarnate from catching up to them.
Rebecca Hartt is the nom de plume for Marliss Melton, an award-winning, best-selling author who, following her conversion, decided to spin suspenseful military romance in which God plays a key role in both character motivation and plot.
As a child, Rebecca lived in countries all over the world. She has been a military dependent for most of her life and knows first-hand the dedication and sacrifice required by those who serve.
Living near the military community of Virginia Beach, Rebecca is constantly reminded of the peril and uncertainty faced by US. Navy SEALs, many of whom testify to a personal and profound connection with their Creator.
I borrowed Cry in the Wilderness from the Kindle Unlimited Program.
Rachael LeMere, wife of a Navy SEAL killed in an accident finds herself and her son living with her abusive older brother three years after her husband's death. She is desperate to escape with her son and Navy SEAL sniper, Chief Saul Wade comes to her rescue.
A cross country journey, changing their appearances and a visit to his home in Oklahoma takes them away from danger until her brother shows up....
I did love the ending but you will have to read it to find out what happens next in the plot.
Driven by fear, Rachel starts to plan for ways in which to escape her obsessive brother. She is grateful to him for taking her and Liam in after the death of her husband, but as his bullying increases, Rachel knows she has to find a way to escape him. When the opportunity presents itself, Rachel risks everything in approaching her husband's best friend Saul, to help her and Liam leave town. This well-written and exciting novel kept me fully engrossed from the opening chapter and as the plot expands into sub-plots, so too does the suspense. Despite his role as a Navy SEAL, Saul does not come over as an invincible hero, rather he is a man riddled with doubt and only too aware of his own frailties. Despite her vulnerability, in some ways Rachel is stronger than the brawny man. Liam wins one's heart with his insightful intelligence and even though one would hope that Rachel and Saul would find their way into each others' hearts, there is the wish to see Liam happy and secure in his surroundings. I thoroughly enjoyed this military Christian romance and can recommend it to other readers. Although part of a series and characters from previous books appear in this one too, it is nevertheless a standalone and comes to a really good conclusion. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
Cry in the Wilderness (Acts of Valor, Book 3): Christian Romantic Suspense, my fourth read from author Rebecca Hartt, an author I first heard of in an email from another author. Enjoyable, tightly woven & well-written romantic suspense, focusing as much or more on the female leads as the SEALS. I like how the author is sharing SEALS & introducing them so you're already familiar with them when they get their own book. As good as her first three books with characters from that book playing an integral part in this book you can’t help but want to read the next book in the series as well, fans of Dee Henderson Marliss Melton, and Colleen Coble, will enjoy this book as well. I'll be reading more from this author and in this series just as soon as I get them! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Ms Hartt writes such exciting, suspenseful and romantic stories that are layered with multiple stories merging together. Not only is Blake's widow and son trying to escape a domineering brother, she is also meeting the mother who allowed her to be adopted. Then there's Saul, facing going back to his former Oklahoma home where he suffered abuse to prepare it for sale after his step father's death. Now, among deployments where sniper Saul's expertise is needed, he faces multiple challenges that will affect his faith and his heart. So exciting and breathtakingly full of tense action yet also full of hope. I have certainly enjoyed this series and hope more stories of SEAL Team Six will be shared.
I’ll admit, I didn’t like Saul in the beginning (I felt he was self-centered and wondered how he was going to be anyone’s hero), and I was worried Rachel was going to be a weak female lead (which I don’t care for). But ohmigosh, it got so good! In a slight twist on the abusive ex, Rachel and her son are trapped with her brother, who is unhealthily fixated on Liam. The opportunity to escape comes when Saul returns from his most recent deployment. From the moment Saul makes the decision to rescue Rachel and Liam, the action is nonstop with the brother, racial discrimination and law enforcement. Saul’s journey to redemption and forgiveness is well done, as is the growing connection/chemistry between him and Rachel. It was a true pleasure to read this story!
As a rule this series is really very good. The stories differ slightly as the author explores each separate SEAL’s experiences with love and life and their relationship with God. This one … hmm. Well. It was as good as the others. Except the ending was tied up so nice and neat in a little bow. Unrealistically as it was. Happy ending to be sure. But I don’t really think that what happened would have or could have happened as quickly as the author wrote it. Nevertheless it was still a good read.
This is the first book I have read by Rebecca Hartt and I really enjoyed it. The characters and plot are well developed and run smoothly. There are many suspenseful scenes throughout the book and a slow burn romance.
I liked the elements of faith in this book as Rachel teaches Saul about faith and forgiveness. It it a wonderful read.
This was such a special story. Rachel and Liam were living with her brother. He was in charge of their lives for he had stolen her rights to her life and her son when she was so devastated after her husbands death. She finally discovered she would be able to try a and escape from him and his controlling behavior. She contacted Saul a member of the seal team he r husband was a part of,. This story is so great, you will enjoy it beyond measure.
Once I started reading this series, I could not stop until I had read every book! Heroes and heroines with flaws just like me, suspense, danger, love and heroism all mixed up together for page-turners that you won't want to put down! Well done! Very well done!
This is the third book in a series surrounding Seal Team 6. This one involves a psychotic brother-in-law who is a JAG Captain (Navy lawyer) that is trying to take his nephew away from his sister who is a Seal Team 6 widow. To the rescue is Chief Saul Wade. You’ll have to read the rest yourself. But God definitely played a major role here.
This is the first book I'd ever read by this author. I loved it! The characters are well-developed and the plot has so many surprises I couldn't put it down. You can bet I will be reading more of Rebecca Hartt's books. If you like Christian romantic suspense, you'll love this book. Highly recommended!!
Great story, the struggle to believe in worthiness is hard
Love the couple and the struggle to believe that you are worthy is a hard road. Believing and trusting not just yourself but that the other person is being truthful is worth the work. This story works through each difficulty and has a great ending
I finished this story in 1 day. I'm from Oklahoma so this story was close to my hometown. Saul and Rachel find forgiveness and love, but it comes about in a hard way. God can forgive anyone when they ask and help in times of trouble. This story shows that and keeps the reader in suspense the whole way through. This book is highly recommended for all readers!!
This story is full of danger and intrigue as well as romance. There are strong characters who draw the reader to them, making friends who are sad to say goodbye.
I couldn't decide to give a four or five star rating because at times I thought there were contradictions. But in the end, I loved the book, loved the characters and loved the story, of course.
Cry in the Wilderness leads through a series of cohesive events that you anticipate but don't know exactly when they will happen. The ending is surprising but rewarding. This book is extremely well written.
Every time I finish one of the books in this series, I think that it's my favorite.... until the next one! I love Rachel and Saul, and Liam too. I'm so glad I discovered this author!
I enjoyed reading this final book in this series of three standalone stories. I especially enjoyed that there were no smut nor crude language in any of them. I look forward to reading more by this author.
I have loved getting to know the members of Team 6 and Saul's story of redemption and compassion for a woman who was his best friend's wife was beautiful.
I love reading romAntic suspense books that are clean and Christ centered. I definitely believe it's possible to write clean books and still make them interesting at the same time.
I loved this story. Rebecca is a great author. The story is very believable. Lots of tense moments that had me holding my breath. Hope she keeps on writing so I can keep on reading her books.
Loved how this put God into all the difficult times! Some things he fixed, other times he got the characters through it, just like real life! A first time reading this author for me, but one I will be watching for again! Heartwarming read!
I really enjoyed book so very much,I really enjoyed how each of the main characters were thinking even sometimes I wanted shake him . CRY IN THE WILDERNESS, ACTS OF VALOR, BOOK 3 , ROMANTIC SUSPENSE BY REBECCA HARTT . I recommend teens and up .
I’m not much for romance stories but I really liked this series! Plenty of action to go with the romance, and each one had me anxious to see how it turned out. I’m sorry there isn’t a book 4!
I couldn't stop reading!! All 3 books in this series were sooo suspenseful. (It is now 3:14 a.m.) I will be recommending them to anyone who enjoys sitting on the edge of their chair, biting their nails to the quick!
As with the first two in this series, this kept my interest and I didn’t want to put it down. I’m also glad I read the Men of Courage, the prequel. I hope to read more of Rebecca’s books.
I very much enjoyed Rachel, Saul and Liam's story. Its fast paced, action packed and totally keeps you guessing. It is well written, well edited and an all around great read.
To all of our service members, veterans and first responders-- THANK YOU.
The third book in this series and I loved it! It was so engrossing. Keep thinking that each book can't get better, but they do! Highly recommend. Love the suspense with the human story interweave.
A psychotic brother takes advantage of his adopted sister when her husband is killed. He wants to raise her son as his own. He is devious and tries to kill her even to claim her son. There is much action and tears and new found love
