Shortly after Chloe Bartlett returns to her hometown, her family’s greatest secret is revealed—she and her sisters are witches. While the town is still reeling from the news, Chloe’s high school rival is attacked and another young girl is placed under the infamous Sleeping Beauty Curse. Suspicious eyes soon turn to Chloe, and the whole town believes she is guilty.
As Chloe investigates the attacks, with a little help from the handsome but irritating Professor Mike Fellowes, she discovers that there may be a deeper and deadlier plan afoot—one that’s focused on her.
Can Chloe unravel the mystery in time? Or will she fall prey to the malevolent figure lurking in the shadows?
I liked this book and found it well-written. The characters were not all that likeable but they did grow on me. I do think the plot could have been solved in a much shorter book. Every detail doesn't need included in a book and sometimes this book has way too many details that did not matter. Chloe's love interest was so unlikable at the beginning of the book that I'm not sure he can ever redeem himself to me as a reader. Several general facts of the book didn't make sense like why Chloe wasn't living in her parents house since they had been gone for months instead of with her sister. Why did the cat act so weird? That was never answered. The bones of the book was good but the inside walls needs work.
The cat’s out of the bag! Librarian Chloe and her sisters, Alberta and Rafaela, are witches.
Chloe’s teenage rival is ambushed while another girl has a Sleeping Beauty Curse cast upon her. Wary town-folk think Chloe is guilty of terrible circumstances.
Exasperating Professor Mike Fellowes, who ousted Chloe and her sisters, ends up helping Chloe inspect the occurrences.
Chloe learns about more profound and lethal enigmas geared toward harming her. Unscrambling secrecies is a must for her welfare.
A Maryland Witch is a cozy fantasy mystery with twists and turns that will keep you turning the pages. A perfect charming read to break up the monotony of a hectic day. The sisters are fun characters, and the cat is an entertaining part of the story as well.
When Chloe and her sisters Alberta and Rafaela are outed as witches by college professor Mike Fellowes, strange things begin occurring and they are accused of the crimes. There are plenty of suspects and motives that kept me engaged in the story. The characters are likable and the story flows nicely. I had the culprit figured out based on their over the top behavior but I didn't figure out the motive until later. I found it strange that the sisters don't practice magic except for Alberta's scrying. The fact that the culprit wasn't a witch but could perform powerful magic spells didn't feel right to me. I look forward to reading more books in the series. I read the book through KU.
A story of 3 sisters who are secretly witches and a number of murder attempts and old boyfriends and new boyfriends and a psychic witch cat! A clever premise but it got a bit bogged down with melodrama at times and the cast was a bit too large and the mystery could have been solved much sooner except for the overly melodramatic witch that things were being blamed on! Otherwise a nice magical read!
It's an amazing book. It's full of surprises, fun and thrill until the very end. Chloe and her sisters are dragged into a super mystery when Bradshaw Tyndall's help Lily is cursed with a Sleeping Beauty curse and Bradshaw is attacked with a gunshot. Suspicion falls on Chloe and Rafaela. Chloe makes some thrilling discoveries and the climax is simply awesome. Do grab this book to find out the culprit.
While the storyline is entertaining and the characters are good I found the writing style somewhat simplistic and pedestrian. Yes each scene leads to the next one quite logically but the story never quite leads to the action I was expecting until the last chapters, maybe this is what the author was aiming for but for me it made the whole thing a little dry. Don't get me wrong I did enjoy the book I just feel it could have been a whole lot more, Baz.
This story about three sisters who just happen to be witches is a whodunit with a magical twist. I found the book to be engaging and the sisters were charming (pun intended). There were twists that kept me guessing who the culprit was right to the end, and was I surprised to find out who was behind it all!
This is fun paranormal cozy mystery series. I hope to read many more books by this author. The town of Crabtree will be a nice backdrop for many mysteries.
This book is a great way to get away from life for a while and help out the characters figure out who did it to save the sisters. Interesting characters and beliefs to give it twists and turns along the way.
I really had fun listening to this book and am looking forward to book 2. My only criticism is that the beginning was a but slow. I was almost ready to quit but then it picked up and was fun.
