Slaughter is the best medicine.

Callie Penrose is back to murder vampires and chew bubblegum. And she’s all out of bubblegum.

Callie has had a rough few days. Five minutes after discovering she had a Godfather, she learned that the future of the world depended on the two of them taking an immediate road trip.

To Castle Dracula - a place even the supernatural community believed to be an urban myth, dead and abandoned long ago when Dracula had perished at the hands of Van Helsing, Mina, and Jonathan Harker.

Except...Dracula and his castle were alive and well. Worse, he had been secretly running the Sanguine Council - the governmental body of every vampire in the world - ever since his alleged death, with none the wiser. Not even the vampires.

And Callie’s first Godfather-daughter dance was to go assassinate the Sultan of Suck once and for all.

But she soon learns that Dracula is the absolute least of her concerns. And that some bonds should never be forged. Because once made, they can never be broken....

Callie Penrose is about to show the world fear in a palmful of blood.

Just like every other book in this series, or at least the last few, I was just in shock when I finished this latest. There were so many darn secrets revealed, and Callie is just really in a different place at the end of this one. And she picks up such a fascinating new character along the way; he’s probably one of my new favorites. But we will see how things play out. This far in the multiverse, I can’t say much without giving away so many spoilers for new readers, but I will say this is just what we would expect from this author: a fun, LOL, well-written urban fantasy to keep you reading from beginning to end. Highly recommend this book and of course all the other books. I received a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Callie is back, picking up where she left off in Black Sheep. Back at Castle Dracula with her Godfather, Samael. Yes, that Samael. The Fallen Angel/Demon Samael.

Her goal, as last described in book 6 is to kill Dracula. Ambitious goal. But, then, Callie is an ambitious kinda gal. But, this is Callie, so of course things start going wrong almost from the jump. I can't tell you how, or what, or even with whom because that would be giving things away. And I don't do spoilers. Suffice it to say, she's off to a rough start, and it's not long before "bone-headed" (ha!) moves start to undermine her quest.

If you can get past the many descriptions and metaphors, which I recommend you try to do, you'll have a lot of questions you didn't even know you had answered. And a lot of occurrences that needed to happen will finally happen. Mysteries solved, quests defined, missing pieces found and so much more.

While I may not consider this to be the best he's ever written, it's still a Shayne Silvers book, which in and of itself puts it up there near the top. And it definitely was a necessary book if you want Callie's progress to be smooth and flawless. We needed to go where this book took us, and we needed to know all this book divulged. And where it took us, and all it divulged, was as twisty and turny as we expect it to be considering Shayne's propensity towards surprises. As usual, we would never have guessed where this brought us. Nothing is as you thought. Whatever you think you know is wrong.

Can't wait to see what Callie and crew do next! Just one of 3 series by Shayne Silvers that has me hooked beyond recovery! Reading is, by far, my favorite vice! And Shayne Silvers is one of my favorite drugs of choice!

I received this as an ARC and give this review in my own words and of my own volition. Not to mention I will buy this when it comes out anyway!

Dracula and his Castle wish they hadn’t attracted the attention of Callie Penrose and her recently acquired Demonic Godfather. Callie may look Angelic, but she isn’t above cheating and other dirty deads to end up Queen of Castle Dracula. And Callie makes a new.....friend.....along the way

This was another great installment to another great series!
Shayne probably made me laugh harder with the witty banter between Callie and her new friend and sidekick, than I have with any of his other books!
As the battle for intelligence against the greatest evil organization ever seen in literature wages on, Shayne manages to keep the reader laughing and turning pages even during some of the darkest scenes that could happen to a person.

Godless, book 7 in the Feathers and Fire series picks up immediately after the end of book 6. Silvers use of snarky wit can make you ugly snort/laugh, all the while hiding depths of wisdom that the main character has dropped on her. New characters are added to the Templeverse and they are well developed and vital for the storyline. Shayne Silvers is the Bob Ross of urban fantasy; he is painting 3 connected series into a landscape of beauty. I can’t wait for the next book.

Just finished the ARC of Godless, and let me say... You NEED this READ! On top of the character defining moments, jaw-dropping revelations and pivotal scenes, you will have so many hilarious one-liners and insults to add your arsenal it will be one overflowing snark-tank. Callie, simply put, is the champion of this world. Shayne Silvers has outdone himself with this book. I can't wait to find out what happens next!

Callie makes the trip to castle dracula to remove the vampire as head of the sanguine council. Betrayal leaves her fighting for her life as the beast of the castle remembers her bloodline. A new ally comes with no memory and a twist of fate. This is a great series with a kick ass heroine. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

So many little secrets in this one. New reveals and plenty more questions. Callie is a woman with a cause, and she certainly causes some trouble. Dracula has no idea that what has entered the castle isn't just a girl but a big as$ kickin coming his way. Read on to see what I mean.

All that fuss and not even a bullwhip or Double Jump out of it, 2 stars.

Such rookie mistakes here, storming Dracula's Castle but leaving your Alucard behind, not a proper whip in sight (severed acid frog tongues don't count), and even managing to botch a silver-plattered example of Chekhov's Shotgun. Yet the worst disappointment comes not from what was, but what wasn't. Years of cautious suspicion constantly in motion, waiting for any hint of a sign towards yay or nay, and yet when we finally have confirmation...

Game of Thrones exists in their pop culture, yet not through eleven main books or any one of FOURTEEN possible cameo opportunities in two other attached series does one single Mother of Dragons joke drop from the mouth of Nate Temple towards everyone's favorite adopted red dragon mom.

Disappointment is too frail a concept for this one, Shayne. I had such hopes for you.

Anyways.

Callie's latest endeavor picking up right off a cliffhanger does and doesn't do it many favors. While it keeps some of the kinetic narrative from the prior book and lets things drop into motion without the need for full recanting of things, it also does have a bit of that rushed feel that has been pervading Silvers and O'Connell's prose in most of the Phantom Queen Diaries books. And while the ability to roll with the punches has always been one of Callie's strengths, it does continue somewhat with the pervading feel of revelation burn-out that has been cropping up in recent installments all around the three main series. Huge upheavals that used to be pretty considerable escalation for the series' status quo start getting glazed over a bit more and more with how they hit at times, and there is little time to absorb or reorient to them.

The immersion thankfully works with the pacing well enough to make it feel like a race against the doomsday clock that could strike midnight at any unexpected moment, and Callie's usual repertoire being rendered null and void to force her to focus on her resourcefulness and re-examine her development with the new, extraordinarily complex mantle of power the last installment placed on her shoulders works well to further her character development organically. That she also remains keeping to the bare bones (ha) of her usual roster of allies and has to stand even more on her own two feet than usual helps her character progress feel more rightfully earned, and maintains a good balance of action and outward engagement along with the inward introspection that becomes more characteristic of her nature with each new book.

The cloistered, overwhelming ambiance also helps quite significantly with the tone of the story. An imaginative, otherworldly feel to the dark, dreary encapsulated world that Dracula's Castle occupies unto itself rendered in noticeably attentive detail. While it hasn't reduced my enjoyment of the books in question, prior works by Silvers in otherworldly realms have at some points been a bit sparse on the details for the environments and the creatures inhabiting them, so its nice to see more of a spotlight put onto such things to show how far outside her usual norms Callie has been tossed.

And of course the drastic revelations do abound, some discreet and more being rather blunt in execution. Its one of the times I feel Silvers could use some leeway to expand himself a bit in his pacing; where its generally a given to want to see more out of a book in terms of length, Silvers usually has a good balance on how his big twists and climaxes fit to the size and placement of the overall prose. This one does feel a bit back-loaded more than usual, possibly in how the book overall relies so heavily on its narrative momentum being directly linked to the previous book, Black Sheep. The twists and reveals are as usual big and brazen and engaging, but stacked on top of eachother so closely can rub the shine off of them a bit, so to speak.

Overall however it is as always a strong, unique standing installment that gives more life to the world and more developed depth to Callie's character, hitting on a few tropes of the Dracula mythos squarely and twisting others around completely along the way. As always I am looking forwards to whatever mischief Silvers intends to wreak next.

I think I like this one the best of all the Feathers and Fire books so far. The plot was good, and there were not too many unexpected shifts of scene. Even the opening deception was nicely explained. There is plenty of snark, though most of it is just Callie talking to herself.

Callie thought, as we all did that Dracula had died ‘way back, at the end of Bram Stoker’s book by the same name. She also thought that Castle Dracula had been burned in the end (although I don’t remember that from the earlier book; of course, it has been years since I read Dracula, so I might have forgotten). Then, in her own previous book, she was told by the demon Samael that that wasn’t so; that Dracula was alive and well and living in Castle Dracula. Also, that he was a Master – one of those magical beings who were in cahoots to run the world – and that he was the secret power behind the Sanguine Council which was in charge of all vampires. So, Callie and Samael set out to take the vampire Master down.

No sooner do they get there, though, than Samael becomes all buddy-buddy with Dracula, branding Callie with the mark of the Beast, which renders her magic inaccessible to her, and setting her up with this strange game of finding people wearing amulets that she is to kill and steal their amulets to get her powers back. But if she succeeds in doing that, she is to become his servant forever anyway. It’s all very strange.

Dracula also allows Callie one of his skeleton servants to help her find her way around the castle – a servant who has no particular fighting skill, or so he claims, and who has been the butt of all kinds of abuse from Dracula and his other skeleton guards for hundreds of years. He proves to be the best asset Callie could have.

It takes a while for the situation to become clear. But finally, Callie figures out what Samael is up to. With the help of a female demon and the Beast of Castle Dracula (the castle has its own Beast just like Chateau Falco), along with her skeleton, whom she has named Xylo, Callie is able to figure out the secrets of Castle Dracula.

Stop what you are doing and read this now!

When we last left our all powerful super female person of the century, Callie Penrose, she has just been a tad disappointed in longtime friends and mentors. She had just found out some really odd news about creatures whom her parents trusted most. AND, she was off to a really unusual adventure.

Well, this picks up about two minutes later. (Almost like we could have had one nice long book but out favorite author had to torture us. Just like his characters.)

At first I was concerned (partial spoiler) with the whole “loose your powers unless you do abc” thing. It’s been done. It’s been done in the Templeverse. I’m tired of the story line. But darlings it has never been done like this. I totally approve. AND, it’s done well and quickly.

Everything is fast in this novel. A scene begins. It’s goes zero to 60 in 10 seconds then another. But don’t forget that last scene. You will need it for later.

On a more serious note. This book says something profound. Many of Mr. Silvers’ books say profound things. This is a succinct thought/monologue given by Callie. It’s really moving and beautiful. It’s something we need to be reminded of today, this moment in time. It’s something we must share with out children. Be a better leader, boss, parent, teacher, person in a hierarchy today! Read this book and listen, really listen, to Callie’s words.

Thank you for your time.

Okay, so I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Godless. And I was not disappointed. Callie travels to Count Draculas castle to defeat Dracula. She hasn't had much time to think it through, since only half an hour earlier, she was fighting Roland, but her Godfather, recently revealed to be Samael, says this is the only chance she has, so-- On we march! And is it going to be easy for our heroine? Of course not! If it were, we wouldn't be very entertained. And besides, Dracula is a Master! No Master is to be easily defeated!
But an early betrayal means Callie is powerless, and has only 3 days to find a way to regain her power and kill the Master of all vampires.
As her guide, she has a skeleton she names Xylo. He is intelligent, and loyal and naive and innocent. You want to protect him, but he doesn't need protection. He can hold his own.
Callie learns a few things about her powers she never knew before, and finds that she doesn't need them in this battle.
The reveal at the end was brilliantly done, and I was so happy at the end of the book! I wanted to join them!
Thank you Master Silver, for yet another best selling book. I can barely wait for the next one!

I have been waiting for this book ever since the end of "Black Sheep" because we were left with so many questions and FEELS. This book takes place immediately after the events of that book. Callie and Samael set forth to destroy the original Dracula. Nothing went the way I thought it would except for how awesomely Callie kicks ass! There are some really impressive plot twists, as well as revelations about Callie and her past that make this book one that needs to be devoured voraciously because you will be unable to put it down. Shayne Silvers knows how to draw out the rollercoaster of feelings of rage, empathy, and laughter with his sinister writings! LOL...one minute I would be almost in tears, and the next laughing out loud (to the dismay of the people around me). The "Templeverse" books just get better along the way, and I am eagerly awaiting the next offering from this gifted author!

A Multi-Layered Blood Cake of Emotions & Conflict, Skewered with Bone & Magic

Callie battles with enemies known and unknown, while wrestling with her own inner demons (also known and unknown).

Her moments of internal reflection go slow - not because they are irrelevant or unimportant, but because I cannot read as fast as the maelstrom of thoughts rip through Callie's mind.

Meanwhile, each maelstrom is book-ended by mystic combat, new friendships, and enough random references to make your head spin (from famous 19th century poets to Saturday morning cartoons).

All of this is coated in snarky humor and unexpected plot twists that will have you gasping one minute in laughter and gasping the next minute in shock that will make you yell out obscenities.

It's a parfait of a warrior women's internal and external conflicts and it is DELICIOUS. Get a great big spoon and dig in, with hopes for the secret candy center!!!

There are few authors that will pull every emotion from you in a single story. Shayne Silvers in Godless does just that. You will laugh like a loon, cry, feel empathetic, be on the edge of your seat from the non-stop suspense and laugh again. Callie is one of my favorite characters. She is strong in her loyalty, deep with her feelings, and an amazing fighter, and not just with her magic. Reading Godless will give you a rush like you've never had before. The story continues almost immediately from where Black Sheep left off. It seamlessly takes you into Callie's next adventure. And, oh what a ride it is! Strap in folks, because it's going to be a wild ride!

What an incredible spin on the Dracula story, if you think you’ve heard it all, you haven’t! Everyone needs a kick ass sidekick or at least one that can high-five like Xylo! With danger lurking around every corner, you will never put this book down! Strap on your seatbelt folks and enjoy the ride!

“Callie Penrose is back to murder vampires and chew bubblegum.” Glory Hallelujah, Shayne Silvers is back with a new book in his Feathers and Fire series. Godless (Book 7) is as fantastic as anticipated. I spent years thinking nobody could outdo Jim Butcher, Bu he’s gets left in the dust by Silvers. This stuff is simply superb in every way that counts. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.

Godless is another mind blowing adventure spun by the master writer Shayne Silvers! It picks up when Callie goes through the portal to take Dracula on. But is Dracula who you think it is? Can she trust the Demon that’s leading her on this mission? Are people who they appear to be? With all of Shayne books you will be captivated from the beginning and left drooling for more!!! It has so many twists, it answers so many questions but leaves you with many new ones as well. I loved it! Well done Shayne! Bring on the next book! I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc, but I loved it so much I purchased my own copy.

Shayne Slivers is well ahead of the pack!

I wish I was constantly in awe of Shayne Slivers because that would mean he writes as fast as I read! Unfortunately I have to wait (a very reasonable time indeed) to be amazed again. Every book builds on the last, rising precariously higher than I thought possible. If you’re looking for an world of monsters who love a good laugh as much as a bloodbath then go ahead and take the plunge. Jump right in, waters fine. Shayne will teach you to swim. Until he throws you over the falls just to see if you can fly.

Amazing! Definitely recommend the series

Finally! I have been waiting to read this book since I started the series and as soon as it was release on kindle unlimited it was quickly downloaded and I didn't even turn back to any other series I have been reading to fill this void while I waited for this book to release. The plot twist alone had me going back and forth and re-reading passages to make sure I didn't miss a clue or a hint but no I basically found out as Callie found out.

This one was a whirlwind! Godless picks up where Black Sheep left off.

There are some interesting new characters added (hopefully some of which will stay), and many answers to the questions behind the motivations of these characters. Definitely at least one shocking revelation, continuing from Black Sheep, which I'm so glad was dropped! Now THAT makes sense.

If you've gotten this far in the Feathers and Fire series, I'm not sure why you're waiting. Get this book and find some answers you've been seeking! Of course, you'll probably be left with quite a few more burning questions... ;)

Callie Penrose is on her way to take out her first Master, none other than the infamous Dracula. However, when she is betrayed within moments of entering Dracula's castle, she finds herself pressed into a deadly game, without access to her powers. Now, with only the help of a new sidekick, she must navigate the labyrinth of Drac's castle, all in the hopes of regaining her powers for one final showdown. This book was full of twists and turns, leaving me unsure of who to trust, and eager to turn the next page.

Grammar always wins the war

I think that's one of my favorite lines from Godless. Callie Penrose really comes into her own in this book. She is fierce and fabulous and funny as hell. Shayne Silvers knows what his readers wants and continues to deliver. New characters and old meet and blend seamlessly. One-liners are spaced out appropriately and blended with some flipping awesome extended metaphors. Well worth the wait and the read.

Shayne has hit another home run. This new installment is set in the belly of a Beast. Callie finds herself in another bind, and she will have to dig down deep just survive. The twists, turns, ups, and downs will have you full of adrenaline. I loved how Shayne had his own take on Dracula and how he maintained his power. The new characters you meet (good and bad) are well written and could be stars on their own, but Callie Penrose will not be out shined.
