07-13: Admittedly, I read the Angelbound Lincoln series out of order.. but I really enjoyed both the pre-quel and the third book. So, I expected to love one that centered on the Thrax prince himself.. even more.
'Lincoln,' book two in the series, somehow didn't read as smoothly to me as either of the others.
The second installment follows Prince Lincoln, a part-angel demon killer, as he comes into his own. He has fallen for a quasi-demon girl named Myla.. but his people see anyone demonic as the enemy.. and the PITA neighboring kingdom of Acca is determined to win the right to hunt her.
In an effort to protect her, he's been a first class jerk to keep her at a distance from him, but as time has passed.. he's only become more enamored and more aware that the precariousness of her situation continues to grow.
As I've said before.. Bauer has done a wonderful job with the world building. The races she employs in her stories are a quirky, but fascinating combination of beings.. the magic bases are interesting, and the villains are nothing if not persistent.
Still, this book felt off for me. Perhaps I've just grown tired of the first person storytelling style, but I think Prince Lincoln's voice just doesn't resonate well with me at times. I enjoy him when he's causing the villains problems, but when he's mooning about over his girl.. it's all rather dull. There's just not a lot of depth there with any of the characters.
Furthermore, while he seems to be able to spend ample time describing the most minute detail about Myla, there's a lot of story developing throughout the book.. and those pieces feel very rushed. It's like a bare minimum of words were used to get the most information into the shortest span of time possible so that he could go back to talking about his feelings.
There are a ton of interesting characters in the book.. and they really don't see a lot of page time either. They're tools of convenience to further plot or deliver information to the reader, but they aren't allowed to crystalize into anything solid. In fact, the story may be a bit dialogue heavy.. relying on that and inner monologues to explain what's happening, instead of really letting the reader experience it first hand.
I do have a couple of favorites though, Walker.. his Ghoul friend and Night, his spell casting mare.. are both fascinating. Myla is fine, same with Queen Ophelia. The sense of humor is there.. even if it doesn't actually make me laugh. Most of them are pretty likeable.
All in all, it was still a fun read. Very light and nothing wrong with the writing. It just felt weaker to me than the other two.
07-12: Wow, okay.. after three months of delays.. I finally went back and finished this book. Review to come!
04-04: After a couple of weeks interruption, I read a bit more of this one today. I'm trying to wrap-up some outstanding titles, but the deadlines are ahead of them.. and I have some requests to get to as well. Sooner or later.. Lincoln!
03-15: Wow, I got very off track with this one. I just ran out of time before the tour as I wanted to get Trickster done instead.. and then it was like.. "well, now it's not pressing." lol. I do need to finish it though as soon as time allows.
02-14: I've pushed this one back a little, as I've got a blog tour coming up for a book in the same series and this is the second title of the three. Thinking I might go back and read book 1 first, then this, and the third.. to be ready.
02-10: Getting ready to start this one soon.. will it be good? I don't know. I've had quite an on again, off again relationship with this month's reads.
Lincoln is the first book I've read by the author, Christina Bauer. I think reading the first book would have been helpful for some background information. Still, I enjoyed this book as a stand alone. I always like the male perspective in any type of situation. Lincoln feels timeless, commanding, dangerous and sultry. Male characters usually seem smothered somehow, like no insight into what they thought or their motives, etc. Lincoln is a complex character and represents very well. Such a mind to uncover here! It's exciting! I like Lincoln's character and his story. Overall, the story is thoughtfully written and engaging with vivid world building and dynamic characters. Definitely going back to read whatever I've missed! Ms. Bauer has written an insightful story that's worth your time. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
Lincoln is the second book in the Angelbound series and it's written in Lincoln's perspective. This little detail made this book really really interesting in my eyes. So, what's good about Lincoln? First of all, Lincoln.
I. LOVE. HIM. While I was reading the book, the constant thought that kept on getting back in my mind was that Myla is freaking lucky to have him. 5 Reasons why Myla is lucky to have Lincoln: 💖He would die for her 💖He sees her as a goddess 💖His duties as the High Prince of the thrax comes second to her 💖He constantly think her as his Queen 💖HE. LOVES. HER. SO. FREAKING. MUCH.
The High Prince of the Thrax is that kind of character you can't not love. He has sense of duty, but when there is love in the middle duty is something that comes second. Always. We see Lincoln as a sweet protector of Myla. She is the first thing he thinks of when he wakes up and she is the last thing he thinks of when he feels asleep. She is someone who doesn't give up and who loves challenges and getting in trouble, something he likes too. He sees her as a partner in crime and he sees her as a warrior who doesn't fear to get into something dangerous. We read how much Lincoln admires her and how much she inspires him. We can see it's not just love, he also sees her as an inspiration. Second of all, in Lincoln's pov we can see lots of the action we read about in the first book, Angelbound, in Lincoln's perspective, but his point of view was totally different from what's shown in Myla's perspective. Everything makes much more sense, especially the first part of the story where Lincoln was supposed to hate Myla because of her quasis nature. I read few books that seemed like this one, the ones that have another character's pov, but everything is just literally the same, just the point of view is different. The thing I really really liked about this novel is that it's really in Lincoln's pov, meaning that not everything involved Myla and not everything had as central point quasis and Myla's story. What we read in this book is essentially about Thrax and Lincoln's life as a High Prince of the Thrax. Like Angelbound is about quasis and Myla's life as an arena warrior and a quasi girl. In a way it's the same story from Angelbound but the focus is solely on Lincoln, and this is what makes this novel great, interesting and, most of all, amazing. There were parts that was well known because of the previous book but there were also parts where everything was new. Like the end, for instance. Another thing I liked in this book was seeing Myla from Lincoln's eyes. Everything she did was gold for him. It was sweet to see how smitten was Lincoln from the start. It resembled a love sick sweet puppy, who can't help but have heart eyes when his loved one is around.
I loved the book and in general I'm loving the series so far. I usually get crazy about fantasy-paranormal novels like this. I can't totally wait now to dive in on the next one.
*Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
~~~~~~ {Rezensionsexemplar; persönliche Meinung zum Buch} Das Rezensionsexemplar wurde mir vom Verlag und #NetGalleyDE zur Verfügung gestellt. Vielen Dank dafür. Die Rezension spiegelt meine persönliche Meinung wieder.
Prince Lincoln has been trained all his life nearly to fight and hunt demons until the day he lays eyes on a certain quasi-demon, part-human, part-demon who lives in Purgatory with her mother, Camilla. When Lincoln first lays eyes on Myla it is insta-love. Lincoln wants to be with Myla forever and will not let anything or anyone get his way.
The Earl of Acca has different plans for Lincoln and sets out to stop Lincoln from ever being with Myla. Aldred wants Lincoln to marry his daughter, Lady of Adair and tries to use Myla as way of blackmailing Lincoln to sign the contract to marry Lady Adair. But what the Earl doesn’t realize is that Lincoln is no DA and has plans of his own. Lincoln is not only a hottie the kind that will make your tongue reach out slap you on the forehead but he is an intelligent dude as well.
Lincoln makes alliances with the other houses to help him in his fight against the Earl of Acca but when they start to disappear he wonders if the Earl is not to blame in some way or another. Lincoln must find out what is happening to his men and who is responsible.
Lincoln has a lot on his plate with having to fight the Earl, demons and keeping his beloved Myla safe not to mention the fact that he is following her around so that he can ogle her without anyone noticing. Lincoln needs to stay far away from Myla if he is to keep her safe but how can he protect her if he can’t keep an eye on her at all times? Yeah but our Lincoln is not doing all the ogling himself no Myla is doing some ogling of her own (don’t blame you one little bit Myla).
I just love the Angelbound world with all the demons, angels, part-demons, part-humans. The characters are so bad themselves with all the fighting and trying to save others. I love getting the story from Lincoln side and knowing how it all went down for him. With Lincoln and Myla we have a couple that are really made for each other and are equals in all ways.
Both are strong and great warriors who know how to fight and are a great match for each other. I loved the scene where Lincoln and Myla were sparring/training, she tells him not to go easy on her but when things get a little tight she assumes she can use her tail against Lincoln like she does in the arena to umm…poke her opponents with but her tail has its own ideas as her tail and Lincoln have a special relationship just musses up his hair instead. Yes loved it! I love that her tail has a mind of its own.
Angelbound is filled with intense demon fighting amongst other fighting from beginning to end. It will keep you on the edge of your seat watching and waiting to see what demon or who Lincoln was going to come up against next and where he was going to lead us. I loved traveling with Lincoln from the House of Thrax to the House of Acca to Earth to Purgatory or to the arena to watch the fights or to a ball to dance or sparring with Myla and fighting some demons somewhere in between. I just love this world and can’t wait for more of it. I can’t wait for more of Lincoln, Walker, Myla and her tail oh and Lincoln’s too oh my now that is one hot dude right Myla, you go girl, Lady Adair keep on trucking you don’t want a piece of Myla Lewis.
Angelbound is an amazing series that I highly recommend to one and all weather you like demons, ghouls or the Great Scala. If you like adventure, fighting, action, romance and hot dudes then you are going to love Lincoln, Angelbound Origins book two.
I have loved getting this look into Lincoln's head, it really puts a new spin on the Lincoln I remember from the Angelbound series. I have always liked his character, but getting this insight to his feelings and motivations has been very insightful and I love it. Let's also mention how very proper and princely it is that he liked to send gift baskets for favors done (even if it is worms or 80's mixed tapes). It made me laugh every time that he contemplated a gift.
I also loved the brief stolen glimpses of Myla, of how I could see her actions that I remember so well from Angelbound but this time watch her through Lincoln's eyes. She is just as cool and fearless as I have always found her to be, but now a new layer of her sex appeal has been added to the book which never existed before (since she was our narrator and it would have been weird). In case you were wondering, Lincoln has always found her to be wonderful, even while pretending to act like a jerk- and boy was I glad to see the why's behind his previous behavior.
I enjoyed how while there were hints of the plot I already know, this was a complete story itself, with a mystery, action and villain that I had never heard of or experienced before. I thought that this was going to be a novella like Duty Bound, but I was pleasantly surprised that Lincoln was a full length book.
This was a fun, interesting new adventure with characters that I have already established a relationship with and love. I really hope that there will be another Lincoln POV to come.
I am voluntarily reviewing a complimentary copy of this book.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
Angelbound was a fantastic book so reading the story from Lincoln's POV just makes it better. I like how it wasn't pretty much word for word but instead we fill in all the blanks from when they were apart. Valuable character insight that really brings the story to life with Bauer's writing. Perfect for fans of fantasy. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
I received a free copy via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.
This is really a repeat of book one told from the opposite view point. But for all that it is still a highly enjoyable fantasy romance. Great characters in an interesting world.
I love the whole story and was loving the way Lincoln tried to protect Myla from himself (and fails spectacularly by choosing to stuff this and follow his heart!)
I recieved an arc of this book in exchange of an honest review. I could not believe it has been nearly 7 years since I first discovered and fell in love with Angelbound. Amongst other dystopian and paranormal books that I loved, The whole Angelbound universe had played such a major part in my life in terms of turning me into a full-blown avid fiction reader (who wouldn’t even entertain the thought of ‘reading’ anything before) and then later finally starting up and developing my book blog. Other than earning the nostalgic points, I gotta say it felt so great to be able to delve back in to the universe.
I have always admired Christina Bauer’s skill in her world building and character development in each and every one of her books, and Lincoln did not exempt. I am completely in love with the sassy and badass Myla, and I can gladly say that I love Lincoln just as much.
I was quite concerned that the plot would feel overused after so many mini-series and prequels. My memory of reading the original Angelbound series was still quite fresh when I read the first instalment, Duty Bound, and it somehow tempered my feelings towards the book as it’s own. It had felt repetitive even though I did get to read it in Lincoln’s point of view for a chance. But now that my head is completely fresh and hungry for it, I enjoyed the shit out of it! From the well rounded and lovable characters to the exciting plot line, Lincoln is simply a major page-turner. I am definitely picking up the next book.
Angelbound, Lincoln (Book 2 of the Angelbound Lincoln Series) – Christina Bauer
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher so I could provide an honest review.
Christina Bauer is an American author who writes many fantasy stories. Besides the “Angelbound Offspring” series she has also written the “Pixieland Diaries” and the “Beholder” series plus many more.
Lincoln is not your typical young adult, while yes, he likes to enjoy himself and get into the occasional bit of trouble he is also the Prince of the Thrax. Thrax being the beings that fight and hunt demons and protect the people of Earth from them.
And just like most guys Lincoln’s age his attention is taken by a girl, Myla, but not any girl a quasi-demon girl that just so happens to be a kick ass fighter. Unfortunately, there is an ancient magical being that is trying to destroy the Thrax and somehow his girl is the key to it all.
So naturally, Lincoln is going to do everything in his power to squash this threat and protect his girl. But of course, there are a few bumps along the way, Lincoln and Myla are determined to get through this together.
“Lincoln” is an enjoyable and playful novel that was just such a delight to read. It is slightly longer than the other books of the author I have read but given the storyline – it was very much needed. Thought I still feel there is a lot more to uncover for these two lovebirds. Not to mention I doubt it’s the last that we’ve heard from Lincoln’s favourite Earl.
Here's the perfect opportunity to get in on the series if you have not had the chance to dive right in. Sometimes some of us just need the viewpoint of a male. Just so we could see what was going on in his head. Well, this one right here lives up to the expectation of all that was capture in Anglebound (Myla's viewpoint).
It's hard telling you how good this version of events are without giving in to tell you more about what you will find. Seeing things from Lincoln's POV gives you more insight to what he was feeling and thinking, and how he viewed things that were taking place. If I would say anything it would be to read book one (Anglebound) of this series. Then make sure you read Duty Bound. Then jump right in and get the full picture. This one installment helps to make the already rich series even more.
I have come to love the way that Christina Bauer have cultivated her character, integrated the demons, humans, and made them have tiers of society, and the depths of the world she has built around them. You will get a full sensory experience with the way they all come together to provide the movie like experience right in your head.
I have mixed feeling about this book. I read it right after finishing Duty Bound and as such have trouble separating my feelings about both books. Lincoln continues Lincoln journey in fighting for his love, Mya. As such it provides a satisfying end to that arc. If this was all one book then, I would probably rate this a 4.5 and be done with it.
However Duty Bound and Lincoln is not one book, rather they are two separate books and must be judged on the individual merits. In that line of thought, Lincoln doesn’t really add anything new to the story or the character of Lincoln. We finally get to meet Myla, however she still remains aloof in this story. Lincoln doesn’t really develop as most of his development happens in Duty Bound, new conflict aren’t really introduced rather continuations of the previous conflict are introduced.
If I had two sum up both Duty Bound and Lincoln, I would probably say incomplete. Both of the books are incomplete on their own but with a bit of works could have stood on their own or maybe the author should have just joined them. Honestly a shame since this was shaping up to be one of my favorite series I have read recently.
- This book was provided to me as an ARC by NetGalley -
I did not read the Angelbound series before this one.
An interesting intrigued drowned by an annoying romance
I have to admit that I had trouble finishing this book. It's not that the story isn't interesting in itself because the battle scenes and the bad guy were quite entertaining. But the romance... First, I hated how Lincoln calls Myla "my girl" when he's never even talked to her. I don't exactly get how he could feel so entitled to "have" her. Their relationship switched way too quickly from hatred too absolute and profound love. I didn't like that either. And since most of the book was about said relationship, it made it hard for me to read. Apart from that, I don't really like Lincoln after all. The first book gave me a good impression but in the end I was disappointed. Same with Myla who seemed like an independent badass girl, but ended up falling way to quickly.
All in all, I'm not eager to read the next book but I hope it'll be less about this romance and more about what's going to happen.
I love Myla and Lincoln so I was completely excited to get the book from his perspective. This made me want to reread Angelbound so I could 'fit' the stories and reactions together. Myla's attitude is the best part. She is who she is and doesn't plan to impress anyone. I think that is why Lincoln is so smitten by her from the start. The fights are always well written by this author. Reading everything that was going on with Lincoln while Myla was thinking other things were going on was really neat. I'm trying not to gush because I don't want to go into details but if you haven't read Christina's books, pick up Angelbound first then read this one. You will thank me for the suggestion ;) It was a 5/5 for me. Truly love these characters.
Thank you to the author for the review copy of this book via netgalley. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
When it comes to fighting demons, Prince Lincoln is the greatest warrior in the history of his people, the thrax. Now Lincoln faces his hardest fight yet…and it’s not on a traditional battlefield. Lincoln is falling in love. And the girl is part demon. Between a fated dance at the Ryder mansion...a life-changing walk through a hedgerow maze...and a massive battle with none other than the King of Hell...Lincoln realizes that he wants to share his life with Myla Lewis, the part-demon girl who has captured his heart. However, an evil thrax noble—the powerful Earl of Acca—is prepared to do anything to stop Lincoln and Myla from having a future. I have never read this author before, so I wasn’t aware that this was the second book in a series. However, I was still able to enjoy it. The author did a good job in building Lincoln’s character. I really liked the story and look forward to more from this author. I recommend. **I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
Excuse me while I take a moment to just freak out. *Turns on the sound absorbent chamber, screams like the girl she is, takes a deep breath and turns off chamber* Okay. I'm good now. Having read and enjoyed nearly all the books in the Angelbound (main) series, I have wanted to know the story from Lincoln's perspective for a long time. Getting to understand his point of view on familiar events was fantastic. Reading this book was like completing only a portion of a million-piece puzzle and Lincoln's perspective brought the other pieces together. If I wasn't already in love with Lincoln's character, I am pretty sure this book would have been the reason to love him. Definitely pick up with the book. You will not be disappointed. :D DISCLAIMER: THIS IS MY HONEST, VOLUNTARY REVIEW. I RECEIVED A COMPLIMENTARY COPY OF THIS BOOK THROUGH XPRESSO BOOK TOURS IN PARTICIPATION OF A BLOG TOUR.
Well I don’t know what to say , except Christina has done it again made fall in love with Lincoln again. It was great seeing Myla through Lincoln’s point of view. It made you realise how he could not be completely dazzled by Myla, when you know what his days look like. So even though some the story was familiar from Angelbound, most of the time it felt like a completely different story. I think Christine redeemed Lincoln completely, and you couldn’t help admire him. Myla as always is her usual snarky self and that’s why we all are addicted to reading about her. Lincoln definitely has his adventures, most of I really felt for Lincoln when you read about his life without Myla. A Great addiction to the Angelbound family.
This book is very different from the traditional POV's where the authors basically repeat all the content of the book without adding anything new to the story. In Angelbound - Lincoln, the author offers us a different story that explains a series of Angelbound elements that, without Lincoln, we could not explain, for example, why Lincoln initially despised Myla so much and suddenly changed his mind about her, and what happened in the days when Myla was in a coma after her battle against Armaggedon. This book is not only highly recommended, but necessary if you want to continue reading the series, as it allows the reader to know more in depth the protagonists of the story. Great book, great story, excellent series!
I feel like I often have to revisit this series after long breaks. Not only because I want to space it out, but because the books often come out of order, and I don't want to miss anything. This book, is either book 1.5 or 2, depending on where you look, and it's basically Angelbound, the first book, but from Lincoln's point of view. That being said, I was a little confused why Duty Bound was at the beginning of this, when it was already released as it's own novella and I had already read it, but I did enjoy reading this new installment.
I would like to thank Monster House Book and the Netgalley website for allowing me to read this book.
It features Prince Lincoln, who in battle is one of the best demon slayers of his people the Thrax. Nowadays he must lead a fight of the hardest. Because being half angel he fell in love with a girl half demon. But his people lz consider him a person to be hunted. Myla Lewis will become their number one target and Lincoln will not tolerate it. He will protect her at all costs.
A book read in one go, so much so that I hooked on the story, so addictive, captivating, full of suspense and twists and turns with very endearing characters.
Lincoln is in love - which presents a bit of a problem when you're a demon killer and in love with a quasi-demon. (It creates some great tension, given how people around Lincoln see Myla). Lincoln and Myla are just so perfect for each other, you can't help but root for things to work out for them in the end. There's plenty of action and fun scenes with Lincoln and Myla mixed in, and the book moves alone fairly quickly, keeping you turning pages cover to cover. If you didn't fall in love with Lincoln in book one, you certainly will now! I won't give any spoilers, but you don't want to miss out on this series, trust me.
I really enjoyed this book. I started this series on book 4, so for me reading this book gave me the chance to find out how it all started. I love Myla, but learning how Lincoln's mind works, and how he met Myla was just a treat. I love how he is first drawn to the fighter in Myla. She's got enough spunk for an army, but it's her fighting nature that really makes her who she is. I also loved finding out what the story was with Adair. Oh that girl is clueless! I just want to smack her dad! I really need to read the first couple of books lol.
Although I usually enjoy Christina Bauer's stories, this one didn't 'do' it for me. But that is mostly because I didn't read the Angelbound series. Basically this one is the same story as Angelbound, only from POV of prince Lincoln. Of course, this is pretty cool, but it is hard to keep up if you didn't read the original story. So, next time I'll try to read it in the correct order. For now, I'll just dive into Calla's diaries, because they are pretty awesome too! Three out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
The second book In the Angelbound series continues the story of Lincoln our crown Prince demon Hunter. It tracks his progress in his relationship with the quasi warrior girl Myla who definitely is more than meets the eye. The friendship he has with the ghoul Walker and his attempts to thwart not only the interfering earl of Acca and his daughter but also the Tithe who wishes to destroy and take over parts of heaven, and the evil king of he'll Armageddon who is trying to seize purgatory,
A great continuation of the tale of Lincoln and looking forward to seeing what happens next
This is the first book that I've read by this Author. I was a little confused at the beginning of the book. But i kept reading because the story was really interesting. (I'm thinking that I should go back and read the first story.) But with that said.... I really enjoyed this book, it was very interesting. I've never read anything like this. The story line was great and so was the world building. The characters were great!
This was a wonderful book to read. We get to learn how Lincoln & Myla meet, and get to know each other. We also see Myla become the Great Scala. It is also interesting to see the connection between Lincoln & Myla grow so quickly, both in how they can read what the other is thinking, but also how well they work like a well oiled machine when in battle. On to Trickster next!!
