Jeffrey Epstein. Harvey Weinstein. Bill Cosby. Peter Nygard.
With this book, the infamous hall of fame for billionaire sex predators has inducted another member.
Peter Nygard is the most famous and successful fashion designer that you might never have heard of. A Finnish-Canadian crowned the “polyester phenom” by Forbes, he built a nearly billion-dollar fortune shilling pants and blouses for the thirty-five and older set. Dillard’s, Sears, and Wal-Mart all called him one of their top providers, and he boasted a massive flagship store in the heart of Times Square.
As he was building his fashion empire, however, Nygard also was allegedly building a dark international web of sexual predation and corruption―one that countless girls and women around the world claim destroyed their lives.
Like in so many similar cases, Nygard stands accused of using his power, influence, and the trappings of success to ensnare and victimize vulnerable young women.
Dangling the promise of a glamorous international modeling career before them, his victims—some allegedly as young as fourteen—claim that Nygard lured them to his California beach house, Canadian bachelor pad, and massive Caribbean estate, only to subject them to horrors they never could have imagined.
Those are just some of the terrible acts that Nygard allegedly perpetrated behind the closed doors of his dens of evil. Meanwhile, Nygard’s invited guests—such as Britain’s Prince Andrew, former President George H. W. Bush, Robert De Niro, and Sylvester Stallone—were supposedly none the wiser.
Predator King shines a spotlight on how money, power, and political clout can come together to create a monster, one that leaves shattered lives in its wake once unleashed upon the world. How can we find such predators, as they prowl in the darkness? And more importantly, how can a man like Peter Nygard be stopped?
Dark, disturbing and difficult read. Nygard is the world's less-known "Jeffrey Epstein II", but equally as ruthless and uncaring in his conduct towards vulnerable people dreaming of a better life. Thoroughly investigated and fluidly written. Provides statements and facts to back up its claims. A tough but necessary read. Left me wondering how many secret predators are still left out there, using the all-powerful dollar to buy their way out of consequences for their actions...
This book covers a truly horrifying and shocking story, much like that of Epstein or R. Kelly, to the extent of where it beggars belief. This book initially piqued my interest when I saw it as I had seen bits and pieces about Nygard in the recent press expose with the charges of sex trafficking in the Bahamas. However, not being a Canadian native I had never personally heard of him or knew who he was. I did not fully grasp from the headlines alone, the full extent of the horror and the sheer scale of it. Now I do.
This book is balanced and well formulated. It grabbed my attention from the very start and didn’t let go for a minute. It wasn’t excessively long or detail-heavy to the point of detracting away from what was clearly at the core of the story: the voice of the many young victims. I felt the authors passion in ensuring their voices are now heard, loud and clear. 5 stars.
I found this book a bit of a chore to read, the writing felt rushed and lacked depth. I guess ‘superficial’ is the best way to describe it from my perspective. I am a dedicated true crime junkie, but this book just didn’t cut it for me.
I agree with one review that states this book will be surpassed by another once the narrative is complete and this monstrous individual is locked away for the remainder of his life for the despicable crimes he committed over decades.
My initial reaction was to give this book 2 stars, probably due to the disgusting evil inflicted on the victims. However, that is unfair to the author who obviously put in the time and effort in intensely researching the beast and reported Nygard’s depraved, heinous crimes efficiently.
The only reason I read this book was due to the fact a friend from the past tried doing business with him around 2010. It leaves me wondering…
As I am reading about Peter Nygard's arrest today and some of the details of new lawsuits, I see that Suelyn Medeiros who is named in this book as somewhat of a pampered love interest of Peter's, actually actively trafficked girls to be raped by him. Her many years of receiving financial gifts and taking up residence as his homes makes more sense in light of this reveal. Melissa (the author) in her investigations did not seem to unearth this dynamic of their relationship. It does not discredit her work, but it leads me to believe that a much more complete and in-depth look at Peter's crimes will soon be published leaving this book outdated and perhaps not the best investment.
This was a well researched book about the psychopath Peter Nygard. He joins the ranks of Epstein, Weinstein, Gomeshi and Trump. These people are disgusting but their stories must be t0ld in order to ensure awareness that these sick people are out there, This whole group ld be locked up (except Epstein of course) as they have proven that they have not earned the right to live in society. This book read more like a police report - just the facts mam - but still interesting to see and question - how do these cretins go for so long without being held to account.
Hard to believe women are not respected for their gender and taken advantage of. The book was hard to put down. Such courage of these women and details by the author
