Rose just had the oddest of nights. On her drive home from an out-of-town meeting, she mysteriously awakens in her car, in the middle of a field. Drawing a complete blank, no clue what happened, how she got there. And just to add to the shock of it all, Rose notices blood on her windshield! But she’s unhurt...and there is no one else around.

Rose is a woman shrouded in mystery. What happened all those years ago that she doesn’t want anyone discovering? What exactly happened in that field? And why won’t she confide in her husband?
Rose has been convinced she’s losing her mind.
Her car keys are in the fridge, her work card is missing, AND to remind you...Rose waking up in the field! Is someone gas lighting her? Or is she really losing it?

This is the second book by Kerry Wilkinson I've read. While I absolutely loved The Girl Who Came Back this one didn’t quite rise to the same level. Don’t get me wrong - it had all the mystery and twists I look for, but it never “grabbed me.” I missed the connection with Rose.

Last Night is a stand alone novel by one of my favorite authors. I adore Wilkinson’s Jessica Daniels series and enjoyed the other stand alone of his that I read, Two Sisters.

The novel starts with Rose waking in her car in the middle of the night. She’s in the middle of nowhere, there’s blood on the hood and windshield but no sign of any dead deer or other creature. She can’t remember how she got there. Maybe because I’m at an age when my memory SUCKS, I love narrations where the main character has no memory of what has happened. Things go missing and then reappear and she had no idea why. She gets fixated on the story of a boy who’s gone missing from the hotel where she was staying, obsessed really.

Wilkinson has done a fabulous job of detailing the marriage where the only feeling left is contempt, where it’s all Rose can do to tolerate being in the same room with Dan. She knows him too well and that’s not a good thing. And likewise, her relationship with her 18 year old daughter is strained. And should she be happy her daughter’s no good boyfriend has also gone missing?

The new big thing in books seems to be an unreliable narrator. This book does it better than most. There are things here that are hinted at; you’re allowed glimpses into the past. Wilkinson does a good job keeping that sense of tension and fear going. Rose has no idea who could be behind what happened, if anyone else is even responsible. Maybe she’s at fault. But there are quite a few others that might be. “Trust is such an important part of a person’s life. It’s intrinsic to someone’s well-being that the people in his or her life can be relied upon.”

Wilkinson draws out the story in a convincing way, little bits at a time. I thought I had a handle on how this was going to play out, but I was wrong. I love it when an author manages to fool me like that.

“Last Night” Rose wakes up in her car. It is in a field, the windshield covered in blood. The blood, is not hers. Rose looks everywhere but can’t find a body and she has no recollection as to how she wound up there. Pretty nightmarish, right?! The night of the accident Rose was staying at a hotel where a young man went missing and Rose is deathly afraid that she hit him. Thereafter strange things start happening to her: her work pass disappears and reappears, her keys end up in strange places, someone breaks into her family home but doesn’t take anything. Rose suspects her estranged husband and/or Tyler, (her daughter, Olivia’s boyfriend) who she doesn’t like, till he is found to be missing by the Police. And then Rose begins to worry. Could she have... did she?.. Tyler? No.

Rose is a completely unreliable narrator which kept me on my toes as a reader, but which I also found to be incredible frustrating. “Last Night” was more of a slow burn that didn’t pick up till the very end. That said, it was an enjoyable novel with well developed characters. I would recommend it to those who enjoy a slow paced suspense with an unreliable narrator.

I was lost in the mushy, grassy field in the desolate coulee with Kaceey and Susanne reading Last Night. Things started off a bit slow for us with this story and at times we wanted to nod off in the coulee, however, there was enough suspense to the story to keep us turning the pages right to the end.

Kerry Wilkinson does a good job creating an interesting, unlikable, and unreliable character here with our main character Rose. A dense fog soon fell over us in the coulee as we tried to piece together along with Rose the missing pieces from her memory. She kept us guessing as she created confusion with some twists and turns and we could feel her fear with every turn she took. The tension built for us as she starts to unravel the mystery of what happened last night and in the end, the fog cleared and we were satisfied with the ending.

In the early hours of the morning, Rose awakens to find herself sat behind the wheel of her car. She quickly realises that she is in a field and that there is a hole in the hedge by the road. Obviously she has come off the road and ended up here. The only thing is, she doesn’t even remember getting in her car, let alone driving.

Upon getting out of the car she discovers that there is also blood on her bonnet, lots of blood, yet no damage and no evidence of anything, or anyone being hit. She is completely baffled.

She decides that she needs to get home, so drives out of the field and the 30 miles back. Once home she finds out that her daughters boyfriend, who she doesn’t like, is missing and that she was supposed to be staying at a hotel overnight and that one of the staff members has been reported missing too.

Is Rose losing it, has she hurt someone, or is someone playing games with her?

This is the first book that I have read by Kerry Wilkinson, and what a book it is. Diving straight into the story, the book opens with Rose in the field in her car. Just like you or I most likely would, Rose’s first thoughts are whether she is dreaming, but then soon realises that everything is too realistic.

Her life is a mess. She is having marital problems, is at logger-heads with her teenage daughter, her IT career isn’t going well and now a blast from the past has turned up again, someone she was hoping to never see again.

I liked Rose, she was desperate to find out what happened before she ended up in the field, but unwilling to share information with anyone as she wasn’t convinced that someone was playing games with her. As a reader you are kept guessing as to whether it is just Rose being forgetful, or is there some other person pulling her strings and if so, which one and why?

I found the whole plot addictive and was desperate to know what had really happened. The book delved into Rose’s past as well as the present, which gave little hints as to what could really be going on.

When we finally get to discover what happened to Rose I was a totally surprised. I like a book that surprises me and this once certainly did that with its added twists. The ending also left a few hints to a follow-on book, I can’t wait to read it if there is one.

ABOUT THIS BOOK: It’s the early hours of the morning and Rose Denton wakes up behind the steering wheel of her car. She’s off the road, through a hedge and in a field.

There’s blood on the windscreen and bonnet – but it’s not hers and there’s no sign of anything or anyone she might have hit. The last thing she remembers is being in a hotel on a business trip but now she’s miles away.

Back home and her daughter’s boyfriend is missing. The last thing he did was argue with Rose over money. He left no note, no text, no clue as to his whereabouts.

The police have questions – and so does Rose’s family. But those are little compared to the ones she has for herself.

What happened last night? And, perhaps more importantly, does she really want to know the answer?

MY THOUGHTS: Apart from the OMG moment towards the end, Last Night by Kerry Wilkinson proceeds at an orderly pace, posing many questions about what may or may not have happened that Rose can't remember. In fact there are a lot of things happening that makes Rose think that she is losing her mind, or perhaps being set up.

Rose has something in her past that she doesn't want revealed, and it wasn't hard to guess what that was. This should have created a greater sense of mystery and suspense than it did.

I didn't much like Rose, who is self-absorbed, spies on her workmates and then derides their lifestyle choices. I couldn't connect with her, and I think that this affected my enjoyment of this book. An enjoyable read, but not a particularly memorable one. 3.5 stars.

This one didn't wow me quite as much as some of Kerry Wilkinson's other work, but it's still solid and kept me reading. It features the kind of twists and suspense he's known for. 3.5 stars from me. While I read, I debated on whether the narrator was reliable or not. Is she going crazy? Is someone gaslighting her? Is there more to her than what we know? I find that to make for an unnerving reading experience. In a lot of ways, main character Rose leads a very dull life. She's separating from her husband after they've grown apart. She wonders if he's met someone else. She barely scrapes by in a fairly boring career. She tends to clash with her teenage daughter. She could be one of very many average women around the world... until she wakes up with blood on her car.

Rose has no idea where the blood came from. She knows she was to meet a client at a hotel. She doesn't know how she ended up back in her car and what she could have possibly done, and she doesn't see a person or animal she could have hit. Bewildered and not wanting to get herself into any trouble, she just goes home and tries to pretend nothing has happened. Of course, that's not going to happen. There's a young man missing from the hotel, and she might have something to do with it. Her daughter's boyfriend is also missing, and no one seems to know where he's gone. But he's pulled these disappearing acts before, so he'll be back... right? No longer close to her husband, she has to figure things out for herself... and she doesn't seem to be doing a good job of it, losing random items and suspecting she's being followed. Is she losing her mind?

This is a standalone story from this author who has previously written a great series too.

It starts off very dramatically where Rose wakes in a ditch at the wheel of a car. This was the start of what I can say was an action packed read, thought provoking from start to finish.
She had been on a business trip.

We later find out what happened as the story goes back in parts then forward in time so we get to meet this in the middle. The author has cleverly lead me along a path he wanted me to follow.

Rose hasn't been doing so good in her job, her boss is not that keen she is falling behind. Rose isn't happy either and need to pull it back.

Her marriage is not ideal, her and her husband are like ships that pass in the night, you can see how they communicate only when they need to and I felt an atmosphere around that.

Neither of them where "in love" anymore, they were together out of habit maybe, no closeness at all.

They have a teenage daughter, shes in love. But her boyfriend has gone missing.
When Rose discovers blood on her car she can't help putting two and two together as a possibility.

Things start to happen where Rose starts to question herself, her reactions, her mind and her belief in herself.

We discover quite early on that Rose has a secret, what that is, we don't find out soon.

I thought the story opened up well, kick start and great lead to the middle keeping up the tempo right until the end. It certainly kept me on my toes.
I was hoping and praying that it wouldn't end in the 'obvious'.

What happened the night Rose can't remember?
Who was Stephen?
And.....where was her daughters boyfriend. He had gone off for days before but always returned, not this time though.

At first Rose wasn't too worried and her daughter sensed this as her Mother wasn't too thrilled with her choice of boyfriend.
Her daughter, on the other hand was worried sick. She started up a Find Him Facebook page.
There were lots of speculations throughout the book by Rose and indeed myself!
So many things happening that would certainly cause me to question myself, so I am not at all surprised how this made Rose do that same, if not more so.

The ending was an OMG moment, this has left me wondering if this really is going to be a standalone as its left me excited for me.

I was not sure about this book in the beginning. It did start off really well and the ending was fantastic but in the middle I started to wonder if I would finish it. So glad I did.. such a great ending that I did not pick.

It starts off with Rose waking up on the side of the road after crashing her car. She can't remember a thing and there is a lot of blood. Things start to come back to her but she is still very confused. Then her daughters boyfriend goes missing, he marriage falls apart and her job is on shaky ground. If only she could remember that night.

Stick with this book, it is worth it in the end. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read in exchange for my honest opinions

This is a good standalone novel by Kerry Wilkinson, an author I haven't read a lot of but he is yet to let me down by supplying another very good novel.

On the night of the accident Rose was staying at a hotel where a young man went missing and she fears that she may of hit him. Further unexplained things begin to happen, her pass disappears and reappears, her keys move location and someone breaks into her home but takes nothing. Rose suspects her estranged husband or her daughter Olivia's boyfriend. But when the boyfriend Tyler is reported missing she suddenly starts worrying that she may be involved.

Much ado about nothing — this says it all about this book. I never thought I would ever get to the end, and I am so glad I got to it without a DNF.

I generally like Kerry Wilkinson books, but in the recent times, the level of intrigue in his prose is going way down. Giving in to popular style of writing, a main character who is a total ditsy with disjointed way of talking and thinking, I was pretty much bored with her thoughts throughout the book... And she thinks and thinks and thinks.

Rose finds herself in the middle of the field, in the middle of night, with a loss in memory and blood on the bonnet and windshield —sounds good, right? And that's where the interesting part ends.

Rose is a detached main character, who is selfish in most ways, except she probably loves her daughter, Olivia. When Olivia's boyfriend Tyler disappears, I thought there would be something happening.

But nothing much really happens in the book, author Kerry Wilkinson has tried to make the ending climatic, but it is easy to guess who has planned everything because throughout the book Rose tells us about people she has wronged.

Rosie is selfish who has only hurt people, yet she seems to sail through life, stalking colleagues on Facebook, her marriage to Dan is ending (probably due to sheer boredom) her relationship with daughter is barely hanging on, her commitment to work and attitude is lackluster. Her entire personality is as dull as a faded wallpaper.

When the villain of the story says that she only thinks about herself, I agreed with her. Even to the very end, she didn't confess her crimes to the police. I couldn't connect with her, by the end of the book, I was glad to get rid of her.

First off, I’m a huge fan of Kerry Wilkinson but....this left me a little disappointed. I can always count on Kerry for delivering a suspenseful mystery. So if your looking for a new author to try, I recommend one of Kerry’s books. For me, this one kind of dragged and I kept waiting for that moment where I would get hooked. The book started off promising. Rose wakes up in a field with blood all over her front car with no idea how she got there and where the blood came from. Sounds good right? As the story progresses many strange things start happening to Rose. She begins suspecting her soon to be ex-husband of “planting” things to make her seem crazy. She doesn’t know what she’s done nor does she know what’s happening to herself. I just didn’t think enough was happening to Rose that made me care what happened in the long run. Especially how it did end—it didn’t end up as a surprise. There was something missing for me that usually makes me turn the pages fast. I love Kerry’s books so there won’t ever be a problem of me reading more of his. This just happens to be my least favorite of his.

How bizarre! Rose wakes up in her car in the middle of the night, having no recollection as to how her car has ended up in between a hedge off the road in the middle of nowhere. What's worse is that there's blood on her windscreen and the front of her car... But strangely there is no sign of what or who she may have hit. Baffled, she drives home, getting rid of the evidence by washing her car squeaky clean. To add gasoline to this mysterious fire, her daughter's boyfriend has gone missing and some very strange things begin to happen. Rose is going to have to put these puzzling pieces together to try make any sense of what is happening to her, causing her to begin to mistrust those close to her.

My thoughts:

Rose seemed to a lead a very unfulfilling life, going through the motions of a dead end job, in a dead end marriage. She leads a sad existence and seemed uninspired to change the status quo. Somehow that did not endear me to her and I failed to make a connection.

I battled to get into this one to be honest. Apart from the introduction and the conclusion, the book dragged on, and because Rose led such a dull life, it failed to hook me into want to keep turning the pages. Only the handful of strange occurrences that was peppered throughout the story piqued my interest. Not until the last twenty percent of the book did the pace begin to pick up for me. But by then, not even the ending could alter my perception of this book, unfortunately.

Disappointingly, this one wasn't for me.

This is my first read by Kerry Wilkinson. Judging by the positive reviews of his previous books though, I'd be glad to read his other novels.

I absolutely loved Two Sisters and The Girl Who Came Back so I was a very very happy reader when I was approved for a arc of Mr Wilkinson`s latest stand alone thriller Last Night.And oh boy what a brilliant thriller this is,packed full of twists,red herrings,secrets,betrayals and misconceptions.

We follow Rose Denton`s desperate quest to find out how and why in the early hours of the morning she woke up in her car,in a field.There was blood on the windshield and the bonnet,it wasn't her blood and there were no signs of anything or anyone that she could have hit with her car.We also learn that Rose and her husband Dann are separating,one of Roses`s old friends has suddenly started hanging around outside her house.Tyler,the boyfriend of Rose and Dan`s daughter Olivia has mysteriously disappeared and Rose is having problems at the IT sales company where she works.We also get occasional glimpses into Rose`s past,the things she used get up to when she was Olivia`s age and the group of friends she used to hang out with.Rose was a wonderful,vivid character who had a wicked sense of humour,I found myself laughing out loud a number of times at her witty thoughts.She had no memory of how she got from the hotel where she was on a business trip,into her car and wound up in a field miles away.As she begins to uncover secrets and lies she begins to doubt herself and the people around her.

This is a gripping,riveting,page turner that had me hooked in from the first sentence right through to the unexpected,omg final page.I would happily recommend Kerry Wilkinson`s books to anyone who loves a well written,thoroughly enjoyable thriller.

Last Night is my first Kerry Wilkinson book and it looks like I have even more to add to my TBR list. A standalone psychological thriller that kept me up late reading because I couldn’t put it down. The opening was BAM IN YO’ FACE… with main character Rose waking up with blood all over her car and struggling to remember what has happened. Totally hooked me right off the bat!

Rose Denton and husband Dan have a pretty crappy marriage that is coming to an end. Their 18 year old daughter, Olivia, is dating an older loser (according to Rose) named Tyler. Tyler is missing and Rose wonders if her lack of memory and the blood in her car could have something to do with his disappearance.

The plot has many layers with lots of things to think about while reading. What happened to Rose before she woke up with blood in her car? What happened to Tyler? What happened to Rose and her friends when they were younger? And don’t forget her failing relationship with her husband, her strained relationship with her daughter, her poor job performance… The author was able to make all this work without coming across as overly complex. The balance was perfect and made for a very interesting, page-turning read.

I felt bad for Rose who was pretty sure (as was I) that she was being set up but by who and why? It is funny how our minds begin to work when we are unsure if we have done something wrong. Rose starts to act guilty…sneaking around the cops and doing Google searches on topics that would more than likely incriminate her if she was investigated. I was very impressed with the author’s ability to floor me with a twisty surprise at the end of almost every chapter. Not to mention the ending!!

I had my list of possibilities of what was happening and once again I was WRONG!! Oh well, I like books with a major WTH?? at the end and Last Night by Kerry Wilkinson did just that!

5 out of 5 stars! I highly recommend to those who love twisting and turning psychological thrillers. Kerry Wilkinson is another name to add to my favorite author list.

Kerry Wilkinson is one of those authors where you just know that as soon as you pick up one of his books, you’re in for a bumpy ride and a thrilling afternoon. Last Night is no different and it makes for one entertaining reading session.

Rose Denton wakes up behind the wheel of her car in the middle of nowhere, with absolutely no idea how she got there. She was in a hotel, wasn’t she? Why is she in her car? What’s all that blood on the bonnet and the windscreen? It’s not hers, thankfully, but it has to belong to something. Or someone. On her return home, Rose discovers her daughter’s boyfriend has gone missing. Surely Rose isn’t responsible?

As you can see, there are a lot of questions and very little answers. What Kerry Wilkinson does so well is create utter confusion and I mean that in the best way possible. It’s like this dense fog you can’t see through. Just when you think you know what’s going on, there’s a dead end and you’re steered into a completely different direction. I had theories left, right and centre. None of which came even remotely close to the ultimate conclusion!

This is a well-paced, gripping and twisty story. Full of red herrings, it left me feeling suspicious of just about everyone. I started to doubt everyone’s intentions and motivations, just like Rose does and she has the added bonus of even doubting herself. Because there are other things going on in her life that aren’t mentioned in the book description so I won’t either but it all adds up to a compelling read that had me guessing until the end.

If you haven’t yet read anything by Kerry Wilkinson, you really should. He always delivers the goods, always keeps you guessing and always comes up with the most satisfying conclusions and he should most definitely be on your radar! I thoroughly enjoyed his last offering and very much look forward to more.

Rose Denton is having a tough go of it. She and her 20-year husband are just going through the motions at this point - barely - and their 18-year-old daughter Olivia has evolved into a surly witch with a capital B. Rose's job as a high-end IT system saleswoman is getting harder by the day, and she's getting signals from her boss that improvement is in order stat (or else). And when she goes off on what should be a routine overnight business trip, she wakes up behind the wheel of her car in a remote field. If that weren't bad enough, there's blood on the windshield and hood; but Rose isn't seriously injured, and there's no body - human or animal - anywhere around.

Panicking, and endlessly speculating about what might have happened, Rose returns home, surreptitiously spit-shines the car and starts watching the news to see if anyone has turned up dead. In her spare time, she tries to avoid fighting with her husband and daughter, whose good-for-nothing boyfriend has gone missing. Olivia is nearly hysterical, and it doesn't help that his most recent activity was a fight with Rose.

Other strange things begin to happen, such as a possible break-in at Rose's home and personal items that mysteriously disappear and reappear. Along the way, readers learn that there's more to Rose than meets the eye; apparently, she's been keeping a deep, dark secret from her past that involves three childhood friends (one of whom died years ago and another who spent the past two decades in jail).

Weird things keep happening to Rose, to the point where she suspects everybody from her husband Dan to Olivia's boyfriend. But wait, could what happened years ago be connected to what's happening to her now? The conclusion, complete with a bit of a cliffhanger, is exciting, though I can't say it was particularly surprising. All in all, it's a good, solid effort, and I thank the publisher, via NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review an advance copy.

Hi, having not read any of Kerry Wilkinsons previous books I was looking forward to ‘Last Night’....and what a night it was for the main character, Rose....she ‘comes to’ in her car, in a field with blood all over her car and no idea where she is or why her car is covered with blood... and so the story and intrigue begins and continues throughout this book, I use the word intriguing as that sums the book up, it really is an intriguing read....each revelation adds another 3 questions that need answering and the book builds and builds and answers more and more until finally you realise what really DID happen ‘Last Night’ and why it happened and what the consequences will be!!!!
Its fast paced but also gives you time to get to know the characters and what makes them tick, a very mixed bag of wonderfully created husbands, wife’s, kids, best friends and others that all fit superbly into this story
I loved it and felt was reading a really good book that didn’t peak and trough but was consistently excellent, dare I say there was a twist??? Yep there is a really good one

Wow! What a fabulous story.

There’s blood on the windscreen and bonnet – but it’s not hers and there’s no sign of anything or anyone she might have hit.”
I really enjoyed this book and can add it to my list of great reads from Kerry Wilkinson.
This is a gripping thriller which will have you trying to work out what’s happened from the first page.
I really felt for Rose as her whole life seems to be crumbling around her and she has no idea why.
The final few chapters will have you on the edge of your seat and holding your breath in anticipation.
This is a brilliant book and I highly recommend it.

Rose awakes in a field with no recollection of how she got there; blood dripping from the front of her car but no sign of anything injured nearby. On returning home, she discovers her daughters' boyfriend Tyler is missing and as the days progress, other strange things start to happen to Rose. Did she do something to Tyler? Is somebody trying to set her up? Unable to trust anyone now, Rose finds herself searching for the truth alone, desperate to know what happened in her missing hours.

I really enjoyed this book. It's not a shock a minute thriller, but the writing is very compelling. There is a good amount of intrigue to keep you turning the pages and the characters felt authentic. Red herrings throw you off the scent of what's really transpiring and the conclusion was nicely played out. A satisfying read that I finished in one sitting.

Kerry Wilkinson's Last Night is an impossible to put down character driven thriller featuring Rose, a middle age woman who finds herself parked in the middle of a field with no memory of what happened or how she got there. She discovers blood on her car's windshield, and frantically inspects the car for any signs of who or what she hit. Finding no evidence of bodily harm, Rose flees the scene. She washes the car clean of any evidence at home, and goes back to the humdrum of her daily life.

Despite her best efforts, Rose can't stop ruminating over that night. Rose's personal life takes a turn for the worst after that fateful night, too, causing her to worry that someone is out to get her family. Her 18-year-old daughter Olivia's boyfriend - a handsome but rough and tumble guy named Tyler from the wrong side of the tracks - goes missing after a fight with Olivia. This isn't the first time he's disappeared after a fight, but it is certainly the longest time he's left town.

Rose's work card is lost, but then reappears days later after she has turned her house upside down. Rose's house is broken into, but expensive items, like laptops and televisions, are left behind, with only a small amount of cash taken. Rose's boss also has Rose in the hot seat for her poor work performance and lack of professionalism. Finally, Rose and her husband of 18 years, Dan, are miserable together and plan to divorce. Dan seems to be pursuing a lover on the side, and Rose hints at doing the same.

Is someone taunting Rose for the sins of her past? Is Rose's husband seeking revenge amid divorce proceedings? Has Rose herself gone too far with Olivia's boyfriend, a guy Rose cannot stand but has put up with to remain close to her daughter? Or is someone else lurking in the shadows - a coworker, boss, fling, or trusted friend, someone seeking vengeance for Rose's unsavory deeds as a teenager or adult?

This book reminded me of Paula Hawkins' The Girl on the Train as it features a middle-aged woman struggling to keep things together in her personal life, which makes the reader question the narrator/Rose's claims. Is the narrator giving us the full picture, or are they concealing certain memories and events from the reader?

This book has so many quotable passages and memorable characters. Wilkinson has a talent for making characters come alive to the point it feels as though they are standing right next to you, urging you to be a part of the story. This was my first time reading his books, and I am looking forward to reading more from him.

Amazing! This author always delivers, whether with his crime stories or his psychological thrillers. And this book I thought was his very best with the pace never letting up from the jaw dropping beginning to the brilliant and tense end. Loved this fro start to finish. Twisted and satisfying. Highly recommended.

Και φαίνεται πως έχει βρει τον τρόπο η συνταγή του να είναι πετυχημένη. Rose Denton wakes behind the wheel. It's two-something am, dark, and she is apparently in the middle of a field with blood on her windshield and hood. She is confused, has no memory for how she might have gotten there, and after an inspection of her own body (nothing sore or broken), can find no apparent victim, animal or human.

She manages to get home but won't tell her estranged husband. She has nothing but contempt for him and proceeds to fully clean up the car of all traces of blood. Totally befuddled, the IT salesperson is not doing well at work, begins to lose things, only to have them suddenly reappear. Then she discovers a young hotel employee has gone missing the same night she was to meet a possible client there. And her daughter's boyfriend has gone missing as well. It couldn't have been Olivia's boyfriend's blood on the hood--could it? Still, she's sure it must be the missing hotel clerk.

The first chapter hooked me in quickly and continued through all of Rose's slow and steady discoveries, piecing together the missing memories. There are plenty of red herrings. Rose is well developed but not wholly sympathetic and the reader is gradually fed a tidbit of backstory--a little at a time, drawing you out. Told in first person through Rose, the dialogue includes a lot of self-talk as she argues with herself (down another possible scenario). There are a number of peripheral characters, none as well developed.

Did I see that climax coming? No--definitely caught me off-guard. The suspense kept me engaged throughout the book and the ending did not disappoint. I was given this download by Bookouture and NetGalley and greatly appreciate the opportunity to read and review. Definitely recommended as a psychological thriller, suspense, and mystery with a twist. And I certainly love those!

A book full of twists and turns, with an excellent twisty ending.
Things were not so rosy in the Denton household. From the outside it seemed all was well, but what happened on that night? She crashed her car, or did she? They got burgled, or did they? Things in the kitchen drawer weren’t there, then they were. Is it coincidence, a set-up? Rose is turning into a paranoid wreck. It drew me in, keen to get to the bottom of each family member, their friends, their colleagues.
It’s the first book I’ve read by this author, but I’ll be seeking out more from him for sure.
Thoroughly recommend this book, a read filled with tension!!

Rose Denton is not having an easy time of it. She & her husband are on the point of separating, her teenage daughter hardly speaks to her because Rose disapproves of Ty- her boyfriend and her boss is making it clear that unless her sales figures improve she may be looking for another job.

On an overnight stay in a hotel where she had gone to meet a potential client she wakes up to find herself behind the wheel of her car, in the middle of a field and to make matters worse the windscreen is covered in blood! It's not hers and there doesn't appear to be any sign of who or what it belongs to! Shaken she drives home and washes down to car to remove any trace of blood.

As time goes on she begins to wonder if she is going mad. Things happen she can't explain, and she worries that she might have done something dreadful.

Although at times I found Rose very irritating, I was really keen to find out exactly what was behind all these things. I just about guessed the finale! Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher- this was a good read.

Kerry Wilkinson is without a doubt one of my favorite authors. I started reading the Detective Jessica Daniels series and was immediately hooked. His standalone novels are wonderful psychological thrillers where he takes ordinary people and puts them straight into a nightmare! Last night hooks you from the very beginning and the surprises keep you wanting to turn the pages faster. Excellent read with an ending I didn't expect. I thank Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book. Highly recommend!

I really enjoyed this book. The main character was not likeable, but supported where the author was taking the reader. Even in our normal lives a person can be so selfish, blind, and self-absorbed they can't see what is going on around them. Loved the twists and turns, and especially the surprise ending.
