I am not a huge Batman fan. When I read Batman, I read him for Catwoman, the Huntress, Batwoman, or Batgirl. I say this because if this hadn’t been free, I would not have read it.
I can’t tell if it is a good adaptation of the novel or not, but since the creators are the same, I suppose it is. I like the idea of Nightwalkers and how they tie into Batman himself, but I found the story to be meh.
Teenage Bruce Wayne. Okay. I'm intrigued but this excerpted issue was too short to draw a lot of conclusions from. The artwork is decent if not exciting. I'm not in a hurry to find more from this series.
I thought this one was okay, I didn’t enjoy the story as much as I had wished. I think it’s because I really prefer the originals other than these middle grade ones. I really loved the graphics though and I know that someone a lot younger than me would really enjoy it.
This would seem to be yet another reboot of Batman's origin. I have lost track of how many of those there have been. Bruce Wayne is not yet Batman. Actually I think he has only recently graduated from hight school as we seem to be attending his eighteenth birthday party, where he has come into his inhteritance from his parents. So he has not yet become Batman. In this story he goes chasing after some criminal in a car newly developed by his company. With Alfred thinking he's crazy. Still it wasn't a bad story. If you like high speed car chases this is definitely one for you. We are introduced to a couple of Bruce's friends that I am not familiar with from any other stories. One is a young lady named Diane. She and Bruce appear to be fairly good friends. There is a brief reference to her baking skills, or the lack thereof. She also seems to have some sort of connection to Harvey Dent. There is also a chap by the name of Richard. He seems to be Bruce's friend only for what he can get out of it, something Bruce is actually aware of. In this case he wants to get an internship at Waynetech, but one that doesn't involve him having to do any actual work. Bruce is not amused. So as far as origin stories go this one isn't too bad. Yes there are changes to the original but hey, Batman has been around for over eighty years. I don't expect things to stay static that long. As well the additions aren't that bad. I think this was the lead-in for a graphic novel but I am not sure. I will probably look to see if I can find anything else that builds of this item. I daresay the average Batman fan is going to enjoy this one. Happy reading. By the way, I did enjoy the car chase.
Really liked the art and coloring. Would have given it a 4 but this was a free sample and it offers just a tease. I’ll be keeping my eyes out for the full graphic novel though
First off, I have never read the novel this graphic is adapted from so I’m not sure if the content is actually true to its source material. That being said, what a cool interpretation of young Batman! For young readers who have heard of Batman but have never ventured into the comics, this is such a great introduction to the masked vigilante. On the flip side, for readers that have been reading classic Batman comics, it could either come off as a refreshing new take or a huge misstep of a reboot so I would ask about their Batman knowledge before suggesting.
The story, of course, centers around a young Bruce Wayne. On his 18th birthday, he decides to take matters into his own hands and goes after a criminal. But Bruce isn’t exactly Batman yet and he fumbles pretty badly, almost getting himself and other people hurt in the process. He is reprimanded for interfering in a police investigation by doing community service hours at Arkham where he meets Madeline Wallace, a beautiful yet dangerous young woman in Arkham for murder. To be frank. the attraction between Madeline and Bruce is pretty predictable which can leave a bad taste in the mouth of those who have become disenchanted by another teen forbidden romance. In my opinion, the action sequences and detective work coupled with the romantic relationship angle allows for the graphic to easily appeal to all readers which is really hard to do. On top of that, their relationship ends up being kind of complicated in the end. Also, the artwork is beautiful so why not give it a chance?
It's a pretty interesting idea, Bruce Wayne before becoming Batman. But it's only the first chapter. I would definitely love to find the find the rest of the story though
I shared this book with all my brothers and they liked it just as much as I did. Super interesting and the graphics look just like I pictured them when i read the original!
