Am I right? You're smarter than most, embrace old fashioned morals, love your country, dogs, and guns... and dig ruthless fiction...
Hi! I'm Clayton Lindemuth, and my novels embrace rural noir truth. Mind your own business, be slow to anger. But don't ever back down to evil. Justice happens when the wicked die.
If we're tracking so far, I wrote My Brother's Destroyer, and all the rest, just for you.
You'll stay awake too late, underline fun new ways to cuss, muse about new philosophies and read random passages to strangers to make the world a better place.
Literary depth. Thriller pace. If you've got the stomach to watch evil men die, dress for the woods and grab a lamp. We've work to do.
Oh my word this is a great series! The first book started a little slow but after that it was all a rollercoaster ride! Each book of the Baer Creighton series gets more and more exciting! He's a good man but plays old fashioned fair! Mess with a man's woman or dog and you die! Maybe that would make life a lot more simple but not for Baer! From the time he finds poor old Fred his pitbull was blinded after someone stole him and threw him into a fight ring , until this book where he deals with a dying dishonest cop and his wife who are willing to do anything to support his family after his death in this last book. One book after another is an exciting page Turner that I found difficult to put down and even if I did I couldn't stop thinking about what would would happen next! Found this book on Facebook and what a surprise to find that a book this great was part of my Kindle Unlimited choices! Haven't read a book this great in years, and then to find a whole series? OMG I'm in heaven! Not a word to describe how great these books are! I can hardly wait to start the next! Thank you Clayton Lundermuth! You did a fabulous job! I recommend this series to everyone that likes to read!
A man who thinks he knows right from wrong. He drinks to much. Cares to much. Wants the truth, but prefers ignorance. The people he meets. So easily manipulated. Such is the life of Bear Creighton.
I've read the whole series, a bit noir but I enjoyed them. Usually very fast paced , this one was a bit slow with a lot of deja vu. Finally go to the usual Baer crazy shoot out at the end. I think if you havent read the series up to this one it's a bit disjointed. But I hooked so I have the next one on pre order. Coming out in September.
I have read every one of the books in this series and, I don't think I could choose any one of them as my favorite. What I liked best about this one is that there are a lot of details filled in about events in the prior four books in this series. These help us better understand how Bear evolved from a youngster. While Bear may seem uneducated and unfamiliar with some words used by better-educated characters, he clearly understands the principles better than they do. Bear may be the most street-wise intellectual philosopher I've ever met. His musings to himself help us understand his reasonings and broad understanding of what drives people...good and bad. Bear is so loyal and is someone you could trust your life to presuming he's learned you are a trustworthy person. He's been a hard-drinking and successful Moonshiner who has developed such a trusting relationship with his dog, Stinky Joe that the dog has been acting as his alcohol rehab counselor.
I have noticed a shift in tone and writing style through the first five of these books (and there are two more which I won't read), but this particular book was way too introspective. I think it's beyond time to officially let Baer Creighton retire into the woods alone with his thoughts.
You definitely need to have read the first book in the series to appreciate much of this book. I would have preferred more twists & turns to the extensive reflection on the past. Whilst it fills in some interesting blanks, I could have lived without them in favor of more lateral action to the current narrative. Nevertheless it hasn’t at all put me off the author, who has a unique writing style .. and I just love many of the unusual and amusing quips that can so easily be glossed over if not concentrating. I’m now off to the next book in the series in the hope that Clayton is in his den extending the series even further.
Enjoyed this outing with Baer and Stinky Joe. This time we get to see more of Baer's background and the reasons he is the way he is. This goes deeper than ever into his psyche and Baer begins to think about the 'human condition' in a way he never has before. Anyone following Baer and Stinky Joe on their journey will enjoy this novel...he takes us on quite a trip. I'm eagerly awaiting the next in the series , don't believe I'll be disappointed! Oh yeah, if you ever doubted it before, this one will convince you: Baer Loves Stinky Joe!
Excellent book I read the first four books took awhile to get in the proper mind set but did them one after another five down now waiting on the sixth. Differently would recommend this series to anyone who likes reality knowing that the main character is human with flaws of his own he is everyone who has had life kick him when he's down, tired of the b.s. that we give to one another. Bears the antihero of us all, wishing that people would tell the truth and stop trying to find an angle to make themselves look better than the rest of us and to profit from it
Baer Creighton is one unique character and this series is a very enjoyable read. The only reason I didn’t give it a five star is that I have lived and worked in Asheville, N C and surrounding counties and towns for 25 years. Even back in the mountains I have never heard anyone speak like Baer. They certainly have their colloquialisms here but they are different from his.
This was a good story but had a little too much philosophy in it or as Baer would say "Bullshit", thus the 4 stars instead of 5. Baer tries to help some folks only to find out they's full of shit. Lots of information on Bear's past. Filled in a lot of gaps. Now on to Book 6.
A Series that gets under your skin (in a good way)
Clayton Lindermuth sets the stage to tell us many answers about Baer's life and how events that shaped him into the man he comes to be. Get ready for a fast action tale that takes Baer back and fourth across the States to keep him and his "girls" safe through another oh my gosh story.
Multiple story lines, and multiple time lines, make this a book you want to read without distractions! It has the feeling of an action movie, with flashbacks to flesh out the origins of Baer, and explain what makes him who he is! Clayton Lindemuth is a master wordsmith, who really knows how to spin a yarn!
Clayton weaves the journey of what's good in humankind cast against the realty of the darkness that manifests itself via the human experiment to attempt to rise above it wrapped in humor, tragedy and wild adventures.
I have to keep making excuses to get away from people to read Clayton's books. "Are you still in there? Are you ok?"
I haven't enjoyed a book series this much in all my 57 years. I grew up on the other side the country from Baer, at the base of My Rainier. But, we have similar values and my cousin makes the sweetest pear shine you ever taste
I do not think this book can be really understood unless you have the first four. I have read all four and at times was confused. Learned a lot about Bear Creighton and his mental struggles with his past and his present. Since this books ends with a lot of unanswered questions I look forward to book six.
Just finished #5. I love this series. You will not be disappointed. This author brings all of these characters to life and each one is unique. I'm looking forward to # 6. This is a book you do not want to put down.
Baer Creighton reads like a good Quentin Tarantino movie. Steady paced with lots of o’ hell moments . I want to savor the book I am reading, but can’t wait for the next one!
I was not happy about the events in this one. Baer acted like he lost all since of reality and somehow managed to believe a bunch of lies. And quit giving the good away you need it going forward.
Lindemuth has done it again with “Blunt Force Kindness”. I finished the book, and am now waiting for the next installment in the Baer Creighton saga. Start at the beginning (“My Brother’s Destroyer”) you will want to read them all.
