The Mystery of Chateau Beaumont

Rate this book
The old Chateau came with a set of keys and a disturbing past.

Children’s book illustrator, Hannah, never considered herself adventurous, never mind a risk taker, so when an aunt leaves her an abandoned chateau, the opportunity to push beyond her sheltered existence becomes irresistible. What better way to embrace a new decade heralding her thirties than to rise to new challenges and make exciting changes in her life?

Embarking on the project in the small town of Beaumont, with the expert help of her reticent but skilled and handsome contractor, the work progresses smoothly. Only one thing puzzles her, though — the townsfolk who refuse to speak of the people who once lived there, only to say that one day years ago, the family mysteriously disappeared.

Digging into the Chateau’s past, Hannah discovers a distressing past, and more disturbing is how it relates to her future.

What began as an exciting adventure spirals into a terror she never could have imagined.

Hanna’s story is the first book in the Triquetra Series about three close friends and the unpredictable turns their lives take.

Familiar

As I began this novel, it felt familiar. The more I got into it the more familiar it seemed. I realized I read it some time ago. I often read 6 to 8 book per month so I did not realize it at first. I remember enjoying it and even though I then knew most of what was to happen, I reread the whole thing and was entertained again.

A book utterly devoid of any tension or interest.

I didn’t see that one coming

A modern day romance novel. All that’s missing is a guy with a half torn shirt on the cover. The characters are engaging and quite believable. The story line is something you could expect in a book like this, except that everything is not as it appears. There’s an undercurrent of mystery that keeps you reading. And then of course there’s the ghost…..

I enjoyed this book, though not nearly as much as the Everdon series by the same author. The story, about a woman who inherits a chateau in a small town surrounded by the mysterious disappearance of the family who last resided there, had a great concept but was very slow-paced in getting to the point, which happened near the end of the book. I have to admit though, that it was a shocking conclusion and made the story much more interesting. I just wish there wasn’t so much fluff to wade through to get there. I will continue on to book #2 in this series in hopes that it will become a 5-star series for me.

I read this book on Kindle.

This is a great book! You know there’s a mystery going on there even while you watch her meet the town, rehab the gorgeous house (I personally enjoyed following along the rehabilitation because the author didn’t bog the book down with rehab DETAILS). The characters are very likable. And I would love the house and town. Won’t bore you with details of the plot (you can see that on the synopsis), but I highly recommend this book. It has a clear ending, by the way (no cliffhanger ending). I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

First of all, this story has it's own merits, it promised to be a mystery, and mystery it is. The characters, especially Hannah, are likable. Having said that, I find that it dragged way too long to get to the anticipated mystery that makes up the story. It didn't get revealed until the last quarter of the book. As much as the relationship between Hannah and Brax was much talked about in the first three-quarters of the book and the portend budding romance, nothing really came out of it except for the one time dinner they had and planned future dinner together.

I loved this old-fashioned Gothic novel. Our heroine inherits a 200-year-old country chateau that has been in the Beaumont family the entire time ... except that she is NOT a Beaumont ... and she doesn't even know the "aunt" who left it to her. Since she's a city girl, she decides to use the cash that she also inherited to fix up and renovate the place and then selling it. But, somewhere along the way, she feels connected to it, even as strange occurrences are happening. No one in town will talk about the last owners ... and what happened 25 years ago!!!

This was an amazingly excellent find n read!
Loved the story line, loved the characters, loved the ending, the way she wrote this, towards the middle to the end, it just really grabs ya n pulls ya in!
The anticipation to find out what happens next then what happens after that, just was mind boggling n for real seriously blew me away!
Welp, on ta the next book n I do believe it is going ta be just as good as the first!

GREAT STORY

Well laid out, easy to follow, and likeable characters. The ending was unexpected and I appreciate an ending that I didn't see coming.
Part of a series but stands alone quite soundly. A few twists didn't hurt at all! I recommend this author and look forward to reading more. Good read!

Sorry but just meh.

Interesting premise and nicely described settings with an appealing main character. But, you lost me when the renovation project was described as lasting only 4-6 weeks. I wish and in a fantasy world! Just the replacement Windows alone would have been a 6 month lead time!

could have been better

Could have been a Beautiful story short and sweet or a little more effort put into the suspense of the story, this book was nothing but unnecessarily long and tasteless a lot of words that just didn’t make sense it was like the author was trying to make up numbers reading this book was a great lost of time for me

Good read

I’ve read a couple of this author’s books now and I have really enjoyed them. There were a lot of grammatical and tense errors that could use some editing, but I was still able to enjoy the story.

Nor much to the story

Nothing happens until 70% through. The plot is finally addressed and ends abruptly. The whole of the book is about the restorationn of the chateau with very little detail to the plot

The writing carried me through, however, the core of the story was a long time coming, predictable and very short lived. I would have liked to have more mystery/history raising questions leading up to the whole point of the story.

Poorly written

Glosses over details or just forgets to include them leaving holes in the story. Characters completely lack development. The writing composition is at grade school level.

It took me a while to get into this book. The beginning dudnt really keep my interest to make me want to keep coming back to it, but it really picked up about half way.
I did really enjoy the characters and where it ended up.

such a sweet and tragic story.

I fell in love with these characters from the very beginning. I was such a good story that I had to see what the ending would be even though I had already figured it out before the story got going good.

More of 3 1/2. It was a good book. It held my interest. It just wasn't as good as the author's Gothic novels I have read.

Interesting twist

I am older so all the girl friends stuff was a bit useless. The story itself is interesting although the "why" is never dealt with at least to my satisfaction.
