The Devil's Academy

Cole is the most powerful witch to ever be born.
Except… he’s a man, and there has never been a male witch.
Now Cole is stuck in the Devil’s Academy full of evil women who want to destroy him.
To survive, he’ll have to perform a dark ritual that enslaves the beautiful witches to him.
They’ll hate serving a man, of course, but that just makes the conquest over their bodies, minds, and souls that much sweeter.

Disclaimer: This novel contains horrific violence, a harem, and deviant mind control sexual escapades.

This book was terrible.

It's about a man named Cole that ends up at a satanic school for witches. I started reading this because I read the disclaimer and thought that mind-controlling evil witches could be an interesting plot. There are two problems, however:
1 - The witches are evil in the same manner that a bratty sister is evil during her middle/high-school time. Which means they aren't all that evil, just really, really, really [...⨯∞], really annoying. All of them. They are also really incompetent. Every step of the way, the MC would have to help them complete their "challenges", so they wouldn't die. And still they insisted on being... "confrontational" towards him. This became such a pain that I just wanted the MC to stop giving a shit so they'd die and we could move on to better characters.
2-There isn't any mind-control going on AT ALL! I just kept reading thinking, "the MC is going to get tired of their bullshit any time now. just gotta wait a little and he'll mind control them and the book will finally pick up". It doesn't happen.

So, for me, this book failed at all it was meant to do. It couldn't set the atmosphere for horror, it couldn't set up its characters as evil, and the harem elements were completely ruined because the characters suck.

2.5 stars for me.

I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would based on some of the comments I saw about it. My main issue with the book is that it just felt uninspired and empty. Everything about the pacing, characters and setting just felt very generic. I couldn't tell you one interesting fact about the MC, he's faceless avatar devoid of personality that is simply there to react to the world around him.

Thie world isn't awful, Hogwarts school for hot witches is a concept that could have gone in some interesting places but it's just by-the-numbers and factory-like. I suppose if you're a die-hard harem reader there is nothing in this book that will put you off but it lacks anything I could describe as sexy or exciting.

Most anti-heroes are morally grey characters who are just a little darker than average on the good-vs-evil spectrum. For example, most stories about an assassin, a thief, a smuggler, a pirate... whatever darker than normal character you want to choose, usually fall into the category of a person who does bad things for good reasons. In those rare stories that truly explore reprehensible people, mafia stories being a good example, the protagonist is usually the least reprehensible character facing off against worse characters than him or herself. However, even in these stories, there are lines that just aren't crossed, the killing of innocents being a big one.

This book strays completely off the deep end.

The main character follows the amnesiac trope and finds himself in a strange world and told that he's the first-ever male witch and needs to go to this world's version of Hogwarts. In fact, this story could be considered a lot like Harry Potter... well, a version of Harry Potter that has been pushed through a nightmare machine that turns everything good evil, where the protagonist is actually Draco Malfoy with Hermione's work ethic, where every character belongs to Slitherine, and where all the students and teachers (with one notable exception) are ridiculously attractive women. Here are some other similarities:

1 - Magic school based in an ancient castle
2 - Paintings that feature semi-living characters
3 - A potions teacher who despises the main character (though in this book most characters despise the main character, just not quite with as much vitriol)
4 - Magical tests that are likely to kill their students (I know in Harry Potter the killing isn't quite the point, but let's be real, Hogwarts is a deathtrap)

The list could go on, but I think you get my point.

However, that being said, this book is far from being just a twisted version of Harry Potter. It definitely has its own story to tell and the Harry Potter stuff is more like background detail. The biggest change, of course, is the tone and subject matter of the book, which leads back to my earlier point about anti-heroes and the flaws I found with this book.

This is a book about evil. The school is full of witches who worship the devil, they make no qualms about killing and cruelty, and they love human sacrifice. All well and good for a story if told from the point of view of someone who is not those things and trying to survive. However, when your protagonist doesn't seem to have any moral hangups about any of that and his only objection only seems to be when such darkness turns on him, then the story becomes distasteful.

Now, the book explores all of this in such a way that you never feel like the character is full-blown evil until you actually step back and look at his actions as a whole. In each scenario, the author draws you into the situation in a way that somehow softens the blow of each vile act, but it still leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Overall this is a book that had promise and was genuinely enjoyable at times, but it crosses the line between exploring evil topics and glorifying them. The protagonist does things in this novel that are deplorable, and that more than anything is the reason for the loss of 3-stars.

1.5 stars This is my first harem book and since I've recently entertained myself with RH books I said, "why not? Let's see how different it is." And boy is it different.

Not only is it different because it's through the male gaze with a lot of focus/emphasis on the women's appearances (every other sentence about them had to mention their beautiful or ugly face or body, etc.) but there was that strong blatant male superiority. The author doesn't even try to be humble about the power difference like in most RH when the woman is stronger than the men. All the first year women were surprisingly super weak and incompetent in their classes and challenges. They had to be saved by the MC in every challenge and they didn’t even seem like difficult challenges. So they seemed even dumber and the MC smarter when actuality he’s an (below) average guy. Obviously the intended audience isn't towards women, I mean the cover said it all. It was definitely a fantasy porno where the Mc is nondescript so it can easily be the reader. My expectations were already a bit low.

However, although a big chunk of the rating is low because of that bs mentioned above, it's also low because this seriously needed some editing. There were so many unnecessary extraneous details and repetition that I started skimming a majority of the book and still understood what was happening. And the characters were super annoying. The magic could have been fleshed out more as well as him actually giving more than a few seconds to decipher his premonitions. Also, repeatedly using the word "tunnel" for the sex scenes is not sexy, a couple of times would have been an exception but not as the dominant descriptor.

What I liked: the gore, they are Satanic witches so I expected some dark material; and the descriptions of the scary monsters.

TBH if the sequel is even written and released I'll probably skim it to see if and how he could get Vanessa or the other professors to agree to join his blood harem. That'll actually be an interesting challenge. Also, I want to see what their familiars will be.

Well... I made it 30 pages or so
I Thought that I had quit 2 Logan Jacobs series and was giving him a third and final try. Nope I totally forgot that I had read Monster Girl Island. I'm only convinced that I have read Monster Girl Island because I just reread my review of it and I called it "his least offensive book -but totally forgettable".
-What's my problem with this one? The sentence structure is crap. The grammar is convoluted and has contradictory connotations. The female characters are instantly annoying to the point that I quit the book to get away from them. I have seen episodes of Scobby Doo with better writing than this.

4.5 stars - Listened to on audible, surprised by how much I liked it. Cool adventure and a steamy session. Unfortunately for this series, it’s starts to get a little misogynistic and predictable. The book structure is the same and the spicy scenes are written the same way… it loses its edge after the first 2-3 books.

A very interesting fist book

I found it to be a great read, keeping me interested interested from page one. The way the main character interacts with the secondary characters keeps the story moving

Dark, but not horror nor despair

I was worried about the dark disclaimer, but liked it. It’s dark in the same way as a Randi Darren book. It doesn’t revel in it and doesn’t make you feel despair. There’s no backstory for the other side of the conflict so you can read the story with detachment as to who deserves what and just enjoy the journey.

Also there’s no filler. Each chapter has purpose and isn’t repetitive. Good read!

His best work

Easily his best work so far. Not a hero MC, he's forced to attend classes in witchcraft or die. The world of witches is cutt-throat especially for mortals. Ya gadda do what you gadda do, if you happen to gain incredible powers and powerful women who want to attend you? Part of the perks.

Delightful!

I was so impressed and pleased to find a writer who maintained the common thread from start to finish! Many books I've read begin well but end far out of the original theme. Dark demonic to sugar daddy. Such a shame! Mr. Jacobs ends as he began. I eagerly await the next!

Trapped in the school ....

When the goal is pass or die, you learn how to study REAL FAST. Then you got to deal with other students and teachers hoping you'll fail which means you'd die. Time to prove them that you aren't a chump and you'll kick their tests

So wow, this is just bad.

Going in I did not expect much. I did not expect an epic story or multiple diverse characters that are deep and interesting. What I did expect was a competent plotline using basic characters, I did not get even that little bit. The characters are forgettable carbon copies reciting one liners, nothing more. The story is hinted at but never delivers anything, at all. There is nothing here to make me want to read a second book, there is no hook, no character, no plot device. Nothing.

Good

I have to admit that this book was better than I expected it to be. I had it in my library for a few days and finally decided to read it because I generally enjoy the authors books and at this stage I’m pretty bored...

Very Entertaining Concept

There has been several “Academy” books but few with a male lead amount countless females. That’s what made reading so much fun and has provided a few hours of grins and chuckles. Though probably intended as a serious story the author has nevertheless spiced it up with some humor and erotica. This book spans the apparent first tier of study and based on the manner of lessons learned ensuing years will most likely be tougher thus making the desire to keep reading that much more intense. Character diversity highlights the enjoyment. From teacher to student these appear to be witches at their best. I’m seriously looking forward to Book 2 and highly recommend this starter volume to those who love good fantasy.

A interesting idea.

Ok this book was a decent popcorn book that was entertaining but did not really develop the story that much. I enjoyed it and I will read the next book but I can not rate it any higher based on the lack of character development and world building. The pacing was ok but I really felt that the MC was just handed everything with no effort and little struggle from the MC to grow into a overpowered character.

Not good. Shortly after the intro, you will realize this is an unashamed rip-off of Harry Potter, except in harem novel form. It is directly cribbing multiple aspects from that world, even down to the use of pumpkin juice. Due to this, very little effort is put into any kind of worldbuilding of its own, short of the barest basics. Cole, the main character, is summoned into this world, and both us as the readers and him in-character are given zero answers to anything concerning his reason for being there, or what the hell is going on in general. He accepts all the shit thrown at him with way too little resistance. He is constantly saying how he needs to "roll with the punches" or "I need to do this for my survival," without ever stopping to ask why. And we're not meant to question anything as the reader, either, and merely directed to move onto the next rushed plot point.

The cast of girls are childish and petulant throughout the entirety of the novel, even after a couple of them have sex with Cole. (To which there is zero build-up to, by the way.) Not that every harem novel needs to have the female characters be instantly head-over-heels in love with the protagonist, because there certainly is enough of that, but having them snipe at him nonstop is so very annoying. Not to mention that there is no variety among the cast in this regard - it'd be a different story if maybe some of them had different opinions, or acted differently towards Cole. Nope, they all simply hate him for mostly unexplained reasons, and we are reminded of this in every single interaction he has with them. There is no character development whatsoever for them, nor for Cole. The manner in which they are "inducted" into his harem is incredibly contrived and nonsensical, but they all go through with it because of course it needs to happen.

One aspect of this that is kind of completely glossed over - they're all evil as shit? They sacrifice multiple humans, and even straight-up murder innocent people. Not that it bothers me or anything, it's just... kind of weird. I know they're witches, but it's a weird thing to have zero justification for it other than *shrug* well, they're witches! The main character has like one "oh this is kind of messed up" thought but that's about it.

Even with all that said, I'll still probably continue the series eventually. My time does not have much value.
My god, there are twelve of these novels already? What the hell.

Pathetic main character develops Stockholm syndrome.

So I DNF this and quit pretty early. The story is seemingly going to be highly predictable and I checked reviews to see if I was correct. Basically a amnesiac MC with 0 autonomy (the man makes no decision for himself pretty much) is forced into a school of magic where he is "the chose one" and special but they actively try and sabotage him, not teach him and even kill him. The staff even actively wanting him to fail and die.

Everyone hates the main character in this school for the devil, but it comes off as a bratty sister rather than too menacing besides the staff. and the MC is pathetic just wanting to prove himself to his captors rather than escape or learn about the aside world. He wants to please his captors at all cost. It is is the worst story premise I have read in ages and by far the most spineless MC. He would be better off doing ANYTHING other than playing good pet.

Writing is extremely concise but honestly with content like this I view that as a heavy point in its favor, quite a few grammar issues but nothing too glaring.

Overall I can see a audience that might like this but it is not for me in any way. The mentally pathetic MC combined with the fact he is essentially just being told every day what to do and where to go and going through the motions of a school that wants to murder him is just not for me.

After Skulldugery and OP MC, the Scholomance series is a huge let down.

While I don't hate the MC, there is no real redeeming character traits to care if he succeeds. The women are all pretty lackluster characters as well. The MC is talented but arrogant (I would say "cocky" but some lawsuit-crazed writer might try to sue me) and doesn't give me anything to relate to. He isn't trying to save the world from evil, if anything he is promoting evil. It boils down to "them vs us" in almost everyway possible.

The plots aren't that imaginative, nor is the world that interesting.

The sex is a little fun but nothing too special. He has four women at his beck and call and it's pretty vanilla. If you are going to be evil and have sex slaves, then also get wicked with it!

I am on the 3 book as I write this and so far he hasn't added any new women to his harem/coven. I expected Vanessa to be forced in by now. Or someone else, anyone else. sigh. I will try a bit more and hope there is something interesting happens soon.

There was some interesting things in the world

But it was a little boring repetitive , the women witches all hated the hero, because he is a man, all were inferior to him,all treated him badly while he repeatedly shows the women needhim.

I guess this is maybe a fetish for some, stupid but powerful woman is shown that this man is her superior and when she doesn't acknowledge his superiority she is out in her place. It made the novel very repeatitive. 5 to one sayy the way out is this way, she goes the wrong way she makes ride gesture and dies. To survive girl agrees to be hero's slave "have sex with me" "but I don't want to" "but look you are wet, why are you wet?" " please don't make me say it" "say it!" " because I want you to have sex with me" "okay" "please be general I am avirgin" "no" "ouch! But oh it feels so good"

I like bdsm more then the next guy but I wouldn't want these women they were incompetent boring snobs. But that's just me

1 star, this book is really terrible in almost every ways:
- The story idea is good but not new, I don`t mind if it written well, it already made so many times in very much better writing.
-The MC is sucks, the author meant to write anti-hero , again it fails, he is new to that world but he easily defeat any challenge that faced him!!!!, he want to get laid with every girl, so he somehow force them to sleep with him in order to pass the exam, and the only one who didn`t died. wow!
-there was only two sex scenes, and they short and very bad, lack of imagination, adding that he force them to sleep with him, made it double terrible.
IMO this story failed to hit any good point, I really wonder how anyone love this book, why is this book/author so poplar?!!! btw I read other book by the same author, it wasn`t so bad as this one but it was also so boring I couldn`t continue.
please reviewer be fair when write the review.

There is a distinct lack of struggle or real conflict for the main character. He excels at everything. He is an evil Gary Stu.

Cole does not know who he is, recognize his reflection, none of that. This doesn't bother him too much as he goes to Witch School. There he is put in classes that are more like seminars. Not actual classes. I think the longest class was 3 or 4 days. And Cole is very much an over powered protagonist. He not only breezes through his class quizzes, but does so to the extreme.

For example, the students need to kill a rodent then raise it as an undead. His classmates bring back the rodents like you would imagine a zombie mouse. He brings his back but it grows larger and more fierce looking by far. This is repeated for all of his classes.

His failing a challenge or test is never really there.

Dark, but fun

I chose this rating because the characters in the book were very different from what I have come to expect from most male led fantasy novels. They weren't good at all, but actually the opposite. They actually relish in evil and I find an interesting twist. The only things that I didn't like was that it took a really long time for him to make any progress with the ladies. They all hate him but you never find out why and it's annoying for an almost five hundred page book. The book was interesting, exciting and sexy a great combination. I recommend this book to anyone who likes harem fantasy novels. I have seen this author on Amazon before, but the cover and blurb drew me in. I definitely recommend this book, and look forward to reading the next two books currently available.

Definitely has potential

When it comes to harem books I am new. I have several questions which need to be answered in the next one. Most harem books the MC either need something from his ladies or they have a skill he doesn’t. Cole can just do things better, does he need his witches? If each of them had a skill that they could do better than he does that would better. Or if after he, you know, they get stronger in a skill. His past definitely has a lot that needs to be figured out. Other than them becoming immortal through the blood pact, we don’t see them getting stronger(yet). Does adding to his harem increases Coles power? Will his witches be able to tap each other’s power?

I enjoyed it. MC had things a bit too easy, but I guess that's because his classmates were his hardship in this one? It kept me engaged and I thought it was a loads better than some popular progression fantasy series I've attempted. I enjoyed it a lot. Looking forward to the rest in the series. Dislike the he-man, macho bedroom moments that seem to always come with this genre. Why not be a little bit more normal?
The whole genre of fantasy requires suspension of disbelief, and I find it easy to do so, and just get lost in a book. But then this guy starts acting like macho man and it snaps me right out of it for a moment (muh immersion). That's just a small nitpick in an otherwise engaging and fun read.

2 stars = bad for me.

Stuff I enjoyed:

-Audiobook narration.
-The characters are actually evil, and not just less selfless than a saint, which is quite refreshing.
-First sex scene.

Stuff I didn't enjoy:

-MC and his harem are kindergarten level immature.
-Side characters have no distinct personalities. You could swap around the student witches' names, and it wouldn't make any difference, they are literally (heh) copies of each other (same holds true for the teachers).
-MC never struggles with anything. He's OP from the start, so there's no tension.
-Dialogues are badly written. Actually, the whole book is pretty meh.
-Second sex scene.

Mediochre at best

Imagine an adult harry potter but without the class or style... protagonist is the "devils chosen one" but has no idea and is whisked to a witches school where he undergoes a series of tests...blah blah.. been done before... etc etc
However, he is the only male in an all female school and as such is much better at this magic stuff than the girlies... who all hate him to begin with but predictably dont by the end ( introduce lots of adolescently written fantasy sex where he services all four at the same time without a condom or having a nap in between.)
Very corny, very predictable and laughably unsexy..
Mysogenistic and subtle as two snooker balls in a sock to the nuts...

Awesomness!!!!

This is like Harry Potter for adults. That is if Harry Potter was now at a Hogwarts devoted to Satan and he was the only guy there. Yep this book is sooooo much better! Harem situtaions, lots of violence, the odd sacrifice (who am I kidding) there is a lot of sacrifice.

This book is far, but somehow it works and it works well. The character development is great and so too the pacing and world building. I can't wait to see where Cole and his harem of witches go. Will he find out more about his past? Why he is the only male and most importantly, will he add more to his harem?

Everything just goes too well for the main character. I get that this is male fantasy, but I think that sometimes a little struggle comes refreshing.

There is also the big problem that the MC has no morals at all, He just appears in a new world and he can easily take inoccent lives, that just not realistic and it really throws me off.

If you are looking for a series to shut down the brain and read some fantasy smut, not even in that case i would recommend this one, i think that there are better books in that aspect.

The 2 stars that I gave were only because the author did a really decent job in world building and the sex scenes are actually OK.

The only spell you need is R-naughty

Negatives
1.The world building could use some work
2. There was was great lack of POV of outher s thought on things that it got abit annoying with the MC opinion.
3.I felt the MC was more fallowing someone else script ipenstead of him planing anything big in plot(ex. Vision showing him books to steal from)

Good
1. The MC was assertive in his beliefs but clever to hid his opinion in the school.
2.The Naughty parts where the right length and details to keep the Scholar seek more wisdom from it.
