“Heroes of Kinarth stick together,” Dax said with a small smile.

Dax has dreamed of becoming a mage and joining the Kinarth Academy of Champions. When he is accepted, he believes he has what it takes to be one of the best among a new wave of heroic champions.

The one thing he didn't know about himself was his slow spell casting ability.

Ridiculed by his fellow champions, the new mage sees that he may not have what it takes to become a true champion. With the threat of losing his chance to further learn at the academy, Dax will discover a new kind of magic, one that will change the academy forever.

Will Dax and his friends come together as many in the academy want his new kind of magic? Can Dax unravel dark secrets from within his own group of friends? Will the mage become the champion he always felt he was meant to be?

Card Mage: Academy Rebels is for mature readers, 18 and up.

Waste of time.

This has one of the worst main characters I have read about in quite awhile. I will not go into details but he makes choices and acts like a twelve year old delinquent. At the point he forms a team with an obvious enemy purely because of his delusional crush I quit reading.

A 3.5 really, but rounding up since I enjoyed it overall well enough. I can't really put my finger on particular weaknesses, but I don't pretend to be a literary critic, just a guy who likes to read. The harem elements were handled well and the sexy bits didn't overwhelm the story. Other than that it is middle of the road fantasy, and if you like the author's other works you'll probably enjoy this.

Good Read.

Interesting way was found to cast magic other than with a spell book. The thought process of the main character on how cards was thought out and tested. Will see about reading the next book.

Ohhhh yeah, what a way to go. Good game. I fell in love 🥰 with Dax as soon as he was introduced on the first page, with Symon soon to follow. And three others of Dax coterie didn't take too long to find. To start out, Card Decks were really just a pastime game, and while there was interest and big money to be gambled, but really when you think about it poker is the same. Dax's downfall is as a mage you half'a be quick, find the spell you want and say the archane words correctly or the spell fizzles out. Unfortunately under pressure Dax, although good at Mage craft, isn't quick... Dax's job is to figure out a way to be better, be quick inorder to compete on the battlefield and in the academy. Dax creates his first working card and releasing the mana with a single word instead of a entire litany! Dax is gonna spin the Mage World on it's head!!! Yeah I would'a liked it better without the harem aspect but those pages are easily skipped, yeah, yeah they had sex, yes I'm jaded so what. But it's Dax and really everyone in his coterie, well almost everyone... that's what I'm here for and the deckbuilding of course!!!

Here's a quote that amused me:

"Have you ever thought of another line of work, like dishwasher? It’s pretty calming to listen to the water as you clean piles of dishes.”

Thoroughly enjoyed this book Dax is a strong charator and Fern is brillent, The harem and sexy bits fitted well with the story and arn't just gratuitous smut. It is slightly unusual where we are enjoying the varyious entertaining episodes of Dax's acadamy life without working towards huge end goals, this may change as the story develops. One last comment I feel necessary to make, after browsing through other reviews I find it strange and offensive to lob all female authors together as not worth reading, I have enjoyed thousands of books over the last 50+ years from both male and female authors most good but some not so good from both, I have a number of favourites, probably more female than male but plenty of both. and have never found a common thread or fault that condems an entire sex. Thank you for creating Dax looking forward to Phantom Campaign.

Okay story, you much explicit sex

Disliked the sex scenes.

I really liked the description of the card magic and magical paper making.

Also the timing for everything made little sense. It is very unlikely that someone with 5 months of experience with magic will invent a whole new type of magic and have enough understanding to be able to see it to the level that this character did. This whole story if it was done three or four years into their study then that would make much more sense than what was presented here.

Lacking depth

I forced my way through the book and it's ever increasing improbabilities but couldn't finish the last chapter. A disappointing use of poorly written sex scenes lacking true eroticism felt like an another nail in the coffin of an original idea gone wrong. Barely litrpg lite and seems to claim the genre more to make money than live the concept.

fantastic with a caveat

Honestly fantastic story great characters love the magic in this world that is being fleshed out. I just think it is a tadddddd bit jarring how much sex happens what feels like back to back to back. A lil much but overall an amazing book can’t wait for more!

Not to my taste

I don't really like to read books written by female writers this book is the reason why. This is just my preference and since I am a avid reader of over 5000 books I have my own preference

And a great story very well developed with interesting characters that develop and contained space to develop more. It has an engaging and peculiar plot. The characteristics of the created environment are only interesting and well balanced. Hard to stop listening.

I made it to about 65% of this one. There are just not enough details on how magic works and when Nuria has her attitude change it was just super forced and annoying. Totally threw me off.

Story has potential and might get better but I wasnt optimistic enough to finish it.

Lost opportunity of a great concept but needs more character development and sex scenes that feel like a part of the story and not plonked in. It also felt like a wizarding school kids YA genre until the blowjobs arrived. It was really odd and I did not finish this book.

Ok

Graphic sex and harem took the gloss off this one for me. Otherwise the story was solid. Good editing and well paced.
