Chuckle your way through this easy-to-read illustrated chapter book about a snail who’s looking for a new place to hang his shell.
Snail is a merry little mollusk in his rusty bucket filled with strawberries. Strawberries are his favorite treat, but when he eats himself sick, his best friend Ladybug tells him he has to move away from the yummy red fruit. She takes him looking for a forever home, but Snail roams away from his friend and runs into a hungry Chicken. Rut-roh! Will he make it to his new home or be a tasty treat for this famished, feathered fiend?
I'll be honest, I read this book purely for research on what kind of books were being written and published for this age reader. It seems wholly appropriate for the VERY young and for its gatekeepers (read: purchasing audience). The mix of graphic novel and concept illustrations will be appealing for today's parent looking to educate as well as entertain. My analytical side said this author/illustrator ticked all the boxes, added all the layers, set out to please everyone. That said, it didn't feel evergreen or compelling in the way I hoped to glean for my own work. I'm sure there are many for whom this would be a good fit.
Cute, but I found the layout to be not so great. It might be harder for readers to figure out. Much of the font is fancy and might also be hard to read.
Snail lives in a rusted bucket that is full of strawberries and is very content. Until he eats so many strawberries he throws up... So he has to go find a new home, but the home he's most interested in is on the other side of a chicken coop. Despite the threat of being eaten by a chicken, Snail decides to go for it!
This is a cute easy reader. Kids will enjoy the bright illustrations, simple text, dialogue boxes and simple plot. It is the story of snail who needs a new home. After searching many options and an encounter with a chicken, he successfully finds a home with the help of his friend Ladybug. The text is well broken up to appeal to resistant readers who are overwhelmed by large blocks of text.
