Grandeur and opulence are everything in the famed New Orleans Garden District where pets are family and no bling is too big. Opening Furry Godmother, pet boutique and organic treat bakery, is Lacy Marie Crocker's dream come true--until the glitter gun used to make her Shih Tzu tutus becomes a murder weapon. And Lacy becomes public enemy #1. Now Detective Jack Oliver is hounding Lacy, and her Furry Godmother investor wants out before his name is tarnished by association. To make matters worse, a string of jewel heists with suspicious ties to the murder case has New Orleans residents on edge. To save her dream, Lacy must take a stand, put her keen eyes to work, and unravel what really happened at her shop that night. But can Lacy sniff out the killer cat burglar in time to get her tail-raising designs on the catwalk? Witty and whimsical, Cat Got Your Diamonds, the first in a new cozy series by Julie Chase, will be the cat's meow for fans of Rita Mae Brown and Miranda James.

Let's set the record straight right away: Two things are guaranteed to spike my personal barf-o-meter. First is extreme heat and humidity; when the temperature turns upwards of 75 degrees Fahrenheit, I turn into a shrew. Second is dressing animals in human-like clothing (well, make that any kind of clothing). Never once has a bonnet or ruffled collar come anywhere near any of my furry darlings.
So given that this book is set in New Orleans, where 95 degrees signals a cool-down, and the main character is the owner of Furry Godmother - a shop that sells glitzy animal costumes and high-end home-baked treats - what on earth would tempt me to read it? Big hint: The word "cat" in the title. Puppies and other baby animals are cute, I admit, but if you want to melt my heart, put a kitty of any size in my arms. Still another reason for my requesting this book is that every once in a while I love to "cozy" up to a mystery book that isn't full of murder, mayhem and gore. And this, the first of a series, filled the bill purrfectly.
For that, a big thank you to the author and publisher, via NetGalley, for allowing me to read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
The heroine is Lacy Marie Crocker, a native of the city, who's returned home after a disastrous romantic hook-up. She's got a cute shop in the ritzy Garden District, but she's struggling. She doesn't want to take money from her well-heeled parents and banks won't give her a loan, but for the present, she's making do with an investment from a local jewelry store owner.
Out of nowhere, disaster strikes; first, she has a run-in at the store with a very unpleasant character. Shortly thereafter, the glitter gun she was using to bedeck an order of tutus for Shih Tzus is the weapon of choice in the murder of that same character. Well gosh - guess who becomes the prime suspect?
Along with that comes a string of jewel thefts from local shops (for gosh sakes, how many jewelry stores could there be in one district)? And all that brings in the requisite potential love interest, Detective Jack Oliver. As expected in a book of this type, they alternate between serious attraction and silly bickering - and yes, there's the threat of another romantic interest in the form of the hunky brother-in-law of Lacy's best friend.
Despite Jack's constant badgering to stay out of his investigation, Lacy doesn't comply (a woman's got to do what a woman's got to do to clear her name, right)? Besides, she's got a business to run, orders to complete and an independent itch to scratch. Of course, that leads to all kinds of potential and real danger and intensifies the bickering with Jack (no doubt I'm in the minority, but the human cat-and-mouse games that seem to go with the cozy mystery genre are far more annoying to me than entertaining). But all's well that ends well - one of the pleasant aspects of cozies - so overall it's a cute, enjoyable and very well-written book.
Also enjoyable is that each chapter begins with a "Furry Godmother's Secret; my favorite is the "Secret to a happy life: Keep your friends close. Sometimes they bring wine." At the end are recipes for making some of the pet treats mentioned in the story (reminiscent of Murder at the Mansion by Alison Golden and Jamie Vougeot, another enjoyable cozy mystery.
a cozy mystery is such a new genre to me and I am reminded of it every time when I wait for romance to go basically anywhere and spoiler alert- it doesn't
Lacy Marie Crocker has left New Orleans to attend medical school but instead changed to studying fashion. Now returning to her home town she's opened a shop in the Garden district that mixes a bit of both of her loves, pets and fashion. Her shop features handmade outfits for all types of pets along with gourmet treats.
When Lacy stumbles in on what she thinks is someone breaking into her store one night she immediately calls the police but when they arrive they find a body of a murder victim and Lacy's prints are the only ones on the murder weapon. In order to clear her name and save her business Lacy begins investigating the crime herself much to the dismay of the detective in charge Jack Oliver.
Cat Got Your Diamonds was a cute cozy mystery that seems to be the first in a new series by Julie Chase. The setting in this one was quite cute with Lazy owning Furry Godmother, the upscale pet boutique in the Garden district. I could just picture this shop belonging in New Orleans in it's quirky nature.
Lacy did not have a police or investigative background to suddenly be able to solve a crime which normally I'd prefer in a cozy mystery. But that being said Lacy's investigating style was basically being social and asking around so it didn't seem too unrealistic for her to be following the clues. She ended up making a fun character to follow with her unique business and interactions.
Overall, a fun new cozy mystery series for the pet lovers out there. At the end of this story there were also a few recipes for the pet treats sold at Lacy's store.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
I finished a brilliant cozy last night! Cat Got Your Diamonds by Julie Chase which was such a great read I could not put it down, read the entire thing, laughing, crying and thoroughly enjoying this new cozy. This book read so well, reminding me of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, I loved the relationship between the main character Lacy and detective Jack Oliver. I don't want to give too much of the story away however the writing reminds me of why I love cozies in the first place. The book reminded me of how I felt the first time I fell in love with The Book Town Mystery series by one of my most favorite authors Lorraine Bartlett, the way Julie Chase wrote Cat Got Your Diamonds has that same magical chemistry that made me want to read word after word and not wanting it to end. Julie Chase has a great first in series and this one is on track to become one of my most favorite series. I loved the idea of this series, great concept, fun characters, fantastic back story and did I mention how much I love the cover? The Kitty Couture Mystery Series is one you will need to put on your TBR pile for sure, make sure you move it close to the top, you wont be disappointed. I honestly thought that Julie Chase was one of my favorite authors in disguise, however turns out Julie Chase is a very talented author in her own right.
CAT GOT YOUR DIAMONDS:KITTY COUTURE MYSTERY #1 by Julie Chase
Lacy Marie Crocker opened Furry Godmother Pet Boutique and Organic Bakery in the Garden District of New Orleans. She was fulfilling her dream by designing and making high fashion costumes and baking nutritious gourmet treats for the pampered pets of high society.
When Lacy was startled by an intruder, she sprayed gold glitter paint in his face with her airbrush gun, ran and called 911. The intruder was dead and Lacy's fingerprints were all over the murder weapon - her airbrush gun. Unintentionally Detective Jack Oliver made Lacy feel that she needed to find out who murdered the man. This would clear her name and keep her mother and father's reputations untarnished and help save her newly started business. Who was this man? Why was he in her store? Who wanted him dead?
I enjoyed reading this cozy mystery and look forward to reading the next two books in the series. Thanks to Crooked Lane Books, NetGalley and author Julie Chase for an ARC of CAT GOT YOUR DIAMONDS:KITTY COUTURE MYSTERY #1 allowing me to write an unbiased review.
This one had a very good mystery, which upped my rating. Otherwise it would have been a step down due to some inconsistencies. I also got tired quickly of the early verbal exchanges between the detective and the mc, finding these conversations rather childish.
Loved the pet business she had created, and appreciated the pet snack recipes that were included. Though I'm not much of a cook I just might try the pawlines for our sweet but spoiled little pooch.
As soon as I saw the cover for this story I knew I had to read this book!
Lacy Marie Crocker owner of The Furry Godmother and she is ready to make couture garments to make your pet feel special and/or make any other pet lover green with envy. She bakes up tasty treats for pets too. She has the purrfect opportunity to show off her talents at the Animal Elegance Gala, but before that happens one of the tools of her trade connects with a man’s head. The man had broke into her shop but she didn’t deliver the deadly blow. Now she just has to prove it as she is Detective Jack Oliver prime suspect. Is the murder tied to a bunch of jewelry thefts in the Garden District? Lacy needs to find the real killer and try to figure out why she ended up in the middle of this crime spree. That puts her right in the cross-hairs of the killer.
The story takes place in New Orleans and pets of all types, dogs, cats, turtles and even llama seem to be pretty popular in the area. Not just normal curl up and pet animals either, several can perform, and Lacy creates their costumes.
I love Lacy and the way she harnesses her creativity in her pet apparel. With a vet as a father she grew up around animals, but this is not the career he parents originally envisioned. I must say it seems to suit her to a tee even though her wealthy partner pulls his funding until she is cleared of the murder.
Detective Jack Oliver is a real pain when the story starts but by the end I was seeing him in a different light. We also meet Chase, a man from Lacy’s past, easy on the eyes and very interested in Lacy. I love a good romantic triangle. We meet several other characters in this first installment and many make good suspects. The dialogue between the characters is funny and realistic.
The story moves right along at a great pace. The author’s writing not only tells this cat – ivating mystery, her words create some vivid imagery too. She also sets up a fantastic twist that caught me totally by surprise.
This is a wonderful start for this series. Do you pamper your pets? This is a cozy for you. Heck, if you like your cozies with an animal or two or more, you will love this story. I am already looking forward to book #2.
I’ve got to tell you. I did not plan to enjoy this book.
~ I’m not a cat person ~ “Kitty Couture” didn’t strike me as something I’d be interested in
However there was a cute beagle on the book’s cover and I’m a sucker for beagles, so I thought I’d give it a try. And I’m ssssoooo glad I did. I found a new series for sure!
Cat Got Your Diamonds is the first in the Kitty Couture Mystery series written by Julie Chase. It follows Lacy Crocker on her return home to New Orleans. Lacy opens her a shop which doubles as in animal costume design and an organic pet bakery. When a man is found murdered in her shop, Lacy becomes the prime suspect and she fights to clear her name and save her reputation.
When I picked this book up, I wasn’t in the best of moods. As I skeptically began through the pages, I found myself enjoying and relating to Lacy. Life had not always gone her way, but she was determined to pull herself up and do work hard. She is surrounded by a loving family and friends and has a deep sense of community and pride in where she comes from. (Even thought it’s dysfunctional, it’s home!)
The mystery kept me guessing and the Lacy’s personal story has twists and turns that leave you wondering what will happen next. I love how the book left us with a bit of a personal cliffhanger (I totally had to Google the series when I was through and see when the next book is coming out – April 2017).
It just goes to show you you never can tell you which books will draw you in. I would have never guessed that a cozy mystery series about a Kitty Couture shop would be so enjoyable, but Julie made a fan out of me. I’ll be anxiously awaiting next April and more adventures from Lacy!
Cat Got Your Diamonds is the debut of the Kitty Couture Mystery series featuring Lacy Marie Crocker. Lacy has recently returned to her hometown of New Orleans from Virginia following a nasty breakup with boyfriend Pete the Cheat. With the help of wealthy local investor Mr. Tater, Lacy has opened Furry godmother, a pet boutique featuring handmade costumes and organic pet treats.
A rash of recent break-ins has left the Magazine Street shopkeepers on edge. Targeted businesses include Mr. Tater's own Barrel Shop Pub and his jewelry store The Gallery. Mr. Tater promises to send the alarm company out to install a system for Lacy, but the night before they are scheduled to come Lacy stumbles on an intruder in her stockroom. Running for the outside door she sprays the man with her glitter gun and escapes to call the police. Upon returning with the police, the body of Miguel Sanchez is found dead, and Lacy becomes the prime suspect.
Determined to clear her name, Lacy sets out to investigate and soon finds herself the target of the real killer. With a little help from the hunky Detective Jack Oliver she uncovers a long list of murder suspects while also adopting a pet fish, Buttercup and regaining custody of her tabby cat Penelope.
A terrific page turning, at times laugh out loud storyline that not only includes a murder, but delves into the business of animal costume design. Plus, you will find delicious recipes at the back of the book. I can't wait to see what kind of trouble Lacy finds herself in next.
I received an advanced copy of Cat Got your Diamonds from NetGalley via Crooked Lane Books. While not required to write a review I am more than happy to offer my honest opinion.
The thing that sets cozy mysteries apart are the personalities of the characters...and there are A LOT of coziness out there...so my delight in Ms Chase's story was that Lacy, especially, but all the characters in this book had personalities that are huge, most were absolutely hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud over a simple dialog between Lacy and Jack...the delivery was priceless:
“What are you baking?”
“First, six dozen canine carrot cakes for Happy Tails Day Spa. They’re doing a fundraiser in conjunction with the Jazz Festival to promote adoption.” I poured him a cup of coffee and slid it across the counter. He sipped and watched.
“You make dog food?”
I fumbled the sifter and gawked. “Seriously?”
“Canine carrot cakes? Those are for dogs, right? Unless they’re made with dogs.”
“Ugh. You’re disgusting.” I dusted my palms and braced them on my hips. “Get over here. You can run a hand grater, right? Before you ask, it’s not for grating hands.”
That was just a sampling of the sharp, witty dialog, and one liners maintained throughout the story. The story itself is not deep, but it does carry a deeper message, layered over the mysterious happenings, of family and community. I've always enjoyed stories set in NOLA, but this one had a thread of comfort that really drew me in. If real, I'd be on board to visit Magazine Street and the Garden District for all of its unique quaintness.
I am looking forward to the next installment in the Kitty Couture Mystery series, Cat Got Your Cash, due out next year. This is one that I'll be keeping my eye out for.
This book was provided by the Publisher and Netgalley, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of this book to read from the publisher in exchange for a review. The publish date is Nov. 15 if you're interested.
Lacy Crocker moves back to New Orleans and her family after things go wrong for her in Arlington, VA. She chooses to open a Pet Boutique in a popular shopping district in NOLA, much to her Mom's chagrin.
One night, Lacy is surprised when someone enters her shop where she's working after hours on some pet costumes and she runs out of the store with the man chasing her. She sprays him with glitter (what else would you do?) and runs off, calling the police. When she returns with the police, he's dead and they believe she did it. Of course she needs to investigate.
Enter a handsome police detective, Lacy's old friends, her parents and numerous other interesting characters and we have a pretty interesting mystery set in one of my favorite locations (the south overall, really, but NOLA is great).
I thought the romance in this one was handled extremely well. There is a triangle, but I think this is the first time I've ever fallen for both of the men involved. That's pretty impressive. I can't wait to see where it goes, but I hope the triangle doesn't drag on and on and on.
The mystery itself was pretty interesting as well, although I had a little niggling suspicion that turned out to be true. There was one scene I really think could have been removed near the end of the book, but I don't want to give anything away. It irritated me, but also (view spoiler)
If you like pets and crafty/cooking things - she sews all the pet clothes and bakes the pet treats - I totally recommend this book!
Cat Got Your Diamonds is a lot of fun! And it has a hunky detective. And the potential for some great swoonilicious romance on the horizon. Even just the hints we get as attraction sizzles and sparks between Jack and Lacy during this novel had me reaching for my fan a few times. Seriously the most chemistry I’ve read in a while that doesn’t end in a liplock!
But this IS a mystery, isn’t it? So I should probably talk about that too lol. Cat Got Your Diamonds is a great blend of amateur sleuth and police procedural, plus Lacy’s attempts to investigate on her own keep putting her in Jack’s path which is an added bonus! The action doesn’t let up much once it gets going (which is pretty much right away) and the New Orleans setting nicely complements the suspenseful mood.
Bottom Line: This novel is a great example of what I look for in a cozy mystery – a great case that keeps me guessing, a dash of romance, and splashes of humor. Both Lacy and Jack are well-developed and very likable characters with fantastic chemistry between them. The supporting characters are equally well-defined, and I’m looking forward to reuniting with them in the next book.
Reviewer’s Note: Readers may want to be aware that there are a very few, very minor curse words scattered infrequently throughout this novel. I still absolutely consider it to be “clean fiction”.
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.)
I'm in love with this series already! Lacy is from an affluent family in the New Orleans Garden District but she doesn't act like it. She is very down-to-earth and her character has been written wonderfully. She has the opportunity to never want for anything but she wants to make her own way in the world. Instead of falling back on family money, she works hard to get through college and start her own business - a pet boutique. When a shady character strolls through her door, comes back later and breaks in, then winds up dead after Lacy sprays him with glitter, everything she's worked so hard to achieve is threatened. Especially since the hot detective on the case has already ruled her as guilty.
Oh, Detective Jack Oliver....be still thy fluttering heart. His character in Cat Got Your Diamonds is a fresh take on cozy mystery heroes. Sure, he's the standard potential love interest police officer but he's so much more. His banter with Lacy had me rooting for them through the entire book. The chemistry is spot on and can be felt by the reader.
I am impressed by the way the author was able to keep suspicion off of the true killer. I was none the wiser until the big reveal and didn't suspect a thing. The path to solving the murder was paved with several potential candidates that had means and motive. There is also a twist to the story that I never saw coming. Bravo, Julie Chase, bravo!!
Lacy Crocker has come back to New Orleans after a disastrous relationship in Virginia. She has opened a pet boutique in the Garden District called Furry Godmother where she puts together treats and costumes for the four-legged sorts.
When a man breaks into her shop one night she beans him with her glitter gun. But when she runs while he's down and returns with the police, they find him dead, and Lacy is the prime suspect. Her patron pulls his funding and Lacy sets out to find the real killer, so her business can get back on track.
I had to start this book twice. The first time I checked it out I put it down after the first 50 pages. I thought it was too much of a tried and true plot, and I knew who did it by that time. (For the record, I was partly right). But at the urging of my friend Amy I picked it up again and finished it the second time around.
There were too many tried plot points for me to rate it higher than a three. I liked Lacy, and I think Detective Jack Oliver is a wonderful character. But I would like to have seen a little more twists and turns in the story.
I did check out the second book in the series. I have hopes for a few roller coaster dips in the second installation.
I received an advance copy of this book from Netgalley.
Cat Got Your Diamonds by Julie Chase is an explosive start to what promises to be an exciting, page turning series. We are introduced to Lacy Crocker as she tries to adjust to moving back home and getting her fledgling business, Furry Godmother a pet boutique and organic treat bakery, off the ground. Everything seems to be chugging along until a man ends up murdered with one of her glitter guns and Lacy is considered the most likely suspect for murder. We travel along as more and more struggles for Lacy float to the surface. Losing her investor, trying to clear her name, and a possible budding attraction with the lead detective. If that isn't enough to make your head spin, add the weight of being a reluctant part of the Garden District Society and all that entails. This book was full of twists and turns and the author did a wonderful job of describing the settings and introducing all of the main characters. If you are looking for a witty, unpredictable read, then look no further!
Lacy Crocker is back in New Orleans' Garden District and opening her pet boutique Furry Godmother when a creepy looking guy is killed out back. At first, Detective Jack Oliver thinks that Lacy killed him. But a series of threats to Lacy quickly changes his mind. He wants Lacy to keep out of his investigation but Lacy needs the case solved quickly to keep her financing for the store.
This was a cute cozy mystery complete with glamorous fashions for dogs, cats, llamas, and turtles. It also featured a pet-friendly bakery with the recipes at the back of the book. Lacy was a very realistic heroine. She was curious and impulsive but also displayed appropriate fear when confronted by the assorted villains. I liked her relationship with her parents and her friends. I liked the snappy dialog between Jack and Lacy.
Cozy readers and pet lovers will enjoy this story which begins a new series.
Lacy Crocker is like many college students. She went to school to figure out who she was and what she wanted to do. Even if that didn't agree with her mother's plans for her. But she came back home to start her own shop of organic pet treats and costumes. Afterall, no place is like home. She has all the stresses of starting a new business and her mother trying to butt into her business. When several shops are broken into near her and she comes face to face with an intruder, who later winds up dead, she tries to figure out who the killer is to save her business. Just when you think you have it all figured out, think again!
I received an advanced eARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first in the series, Kitty Couture mysteries, by Julie Chase. I found it to be an enjoyable flowing read that often had me smiling. I enjoy reading a lot cat mysteries but have never read one that had a pet sop which catered to dressing them in fancy attire. The author used two things that are of great interest to her, fashion and pets. I had a feeling who killed the man who broke into the shop. I hope in the next book of the series our heroine does something about her triangle romance. One thing that I really like about this story is that it is located in one of my favorite cities, New Orleans. While reading, I was transported back to this amazing city.
Book #132 Read in 2016 Cat Got Your Diamonds by Julie Chase
This is the first in a cozy mystery series. Lacy owns a pet clothing/treat shop, which was broken into and the thief was then murdered. Lacy, at first, is a suspect which brings Jack, a detective, to her door. Lacy begins her own investigation which places her in peril frequently but Jack tries to keep her safe. This was a good mystery and kept me guessing as to the murderer's identity until the end. I received a copy of this book from Amazon Vine in exchange for a honest review.
A strong start to a new series. The setting was wonderful, and I can see it staying interesting since New Orleans is so full of personality. The mystery itself was interesting with a nice twist to it. I can't wait to read the next book.
I really enjoyed this book. I’d never heard of Julie Chase before but I am now a fan. It was a fun, lighthearted read. It was a little slow in the middle but it picked up the beat the longer I read it. I can’t wait to read her other books.
In Cat Got Your Diamonds, the first book in A Kitty Couture Mystery Series, author Julie Chase weaves an intriguing cozy mystery tale that follows the amateur sleuth adventures of pet boutique owner Lacy Crocker, when she finds herself a murder suspect after she stumbles upon a dead body in her pet boutique.
Set in the Garden District section of New Orleans, Louisiana, fashion designer Lacy Crocker moved back home from Washington D.C. after breaking up with her cheating ex-fiance Pete, and opened Furry Godmother, a couture pet boutique and organic gourmet treat bakery. Lacy's business is starting to get noticed and taking off, but when she stumbles upon a dead body in her shop, and one of her glitter guns is the murder weapon, Lacy suddenly finds herself a prime suspect in the murder. And to make matters worse, Mr. Tater, Lacy's store investor now wants to back out, plus there has been a series of jewelry store heists in the Garden District with possible ties to the murder, and add into the mix Detective Jack Oliver who is hounding Lacy and not very thrilled with her amateur sleuth investigation into the murder case. Nonetheless, Lacy is determined to find the real killer, clear her name, and save her business before it all goes down the drain.
Cat Got Your Diamonds is a captivating and fast-paced cozy whodunit tale that has enough quirky characters, witty banter and humor, drama, danger, and intriguing twists and turns that will keep you guessing the identity of the killer cat burglar. You can't help but get caught up in the drama, calamity mayhem, and cat-n-mouse games that ensues as Lacy tries to solve the murder and clear her name. Lacy's amateur sleuth adventure unfolds with a wonderful balance of comedy, drama, and suspense that easily kept me guessing, and left me wanting more. I can't wait to read the next book in this delightful new cozy mystery series!
I would be remiss if I didn't mention how much I liked the delightful pet treat recipes that were included at the end of the book, two paws up!
Cat Got Your Diamonds is an entertaining cozy murder mystery that pet lovers will enjoy reading!
Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author / publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review and participation in a virtual book tour event hosted by Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours.
How can you not smile while reading about pampered pets wearing bedazzled outfits? Add a bunch of quirky characters and a mystery to solve, and you have a lighthearted, entertaining story that kept me happily engrossed.
In general terms, this is a formulaic cozy mystery. At the center we have the innocent woman who, for personal reasons, sets out to solve the crime. We have the hot male detective torn between frustration and attraction. We have another hot male who is also attracted to the female lead. We have humor, some twists and turns, and a fun cast of characters. That being said, while formulaic, this is absolutely not a generic read.
The New Orleans setting comes alive here. Not only does the author gives us a great sense of the way the area looks, but, perhaps more importantly, she invites us in so that we feel the ambiance of this lively southern district. The area has a distinct personality of its own, and that backdrop is a big part of the story.
The characters are all well developed. Even the minor characters pop off the pages.
The major plus for me with this story is the author's effort to maintain realism. Unlike many cozy mysteries, Lacy does not sweep in as a novice investigator to become the heroic crime-fighter. We're not surrounded by bumbling cops who couldn't manage without her. Instead, Lacy's method of investigating is mostly done via conversations and gossip with the polite but infinitely nosy people within the community. Detective Jack Oliver is exceedingly competent on his own, and is often, as Lacy learns, one step ahead of her anyway. I really liked the chemistry of the two of them together, as she sometimes charms and sometimes frustrates him.
At the end of the book, the author shares a few of the recipes for healthy dog and cat treats mentioned within the story. I plan to experiment with those soon, which will no doubt please my three dogs and one cat.
*I received an advance copy from the publisher, via Amazon Vine, in exchange for my honest review.*
I really liked setting for this story and the author does a good job of describing the town. I instantly fell in love with the characters and couldn't put the book down. The mystery is really good and I must say I was a bit surprised at who the killer was. The story is funny at times and really moves along at a nice pace.
Lacy has come home and opened her dream shop called Furry Godmother. I loved the name of her boutique and it added charm to the story. She is really good at making decadent treats for animals. I think her fame to glory has to be her beautiful clothes she designs and makes for the furry critters. She has some snotty customers that demand perfection for their precious pets. Lacy really does some exceptional costumes for animals . I loved how Lacy worked hard and didn't want to depend on her parents for any help. Everything is going well for the boutique until one evening an intruder disrupts Lacy's life. Who has come into her store unannounced? Why does Lacy feel threatened ?
Jack is a very strong and handsome detective. He gets the call to investigate a body at the Furry Godmother. From the first introduction, Lacy and Jack have a dislike for each other. I thought the author really did an amazing job of putting these two characters together. Lacy sure does have her defenses up when it comes to Jack. Why does he think Lacy has something to do with the murder? There are many laughs as these two cross paths. It is like a love hate relationship.
The story has several other characters that make the story interesting. It does have several sub plots going that I found to be intriguing. Overall a very written story and yes a surprise ending. The twists and turns in the story kept me on my toes. I am looking forward to more in this charming series which I found to be very fun to read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Great Escapes Book Tour. The review is my own opinion and I was not compensated for it.
