I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.
Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.
Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.
Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.
Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.

This second book in the Global Search and Rescue series picks up where the first one leaves off, with a continuation of Jake and Aria's new and undefined relationship, the appearance of Ham's secret daughter, and the search for answers to his wife's mysterious disappearance. It would definitely help to read The Way of the Brave first, to get to know Jake and Aria since their story begins there as a subplot. While the first book left me feeling frigid from the snowy mountain setting, The Heart of a Hero took us to tropical Florida, but no less dangerous with a hurricane devastating the area. Aria is dealing with her regrets from the mountain climbing trip and her continued attraction to Jake, who seems all wrong for her (but of course he's just what she needs). Jake is drawn to Aria and her compassionate way of drawing out his deeper feelings that he's struggling with. They each have issues with their past that involve siblings, and I loved that even though they are both uncertain and vulnerable with their feelings for each other, they still provide support and encouragement for each other as they work through their emotions. Others that they have rescued also provide inspiration with the themes of forgiveness and being enough, and Mimi was a favorite. The chapters from Ham's perspective were more difficult for me because they dealt with past missions and flashbacks from his early relationship with Signe, but I always felt like I didn't quite understand what was going on. He was a source of spiritual strength for his friends in the first book, but in this one he seemed more lost. I'm looking forward to his story being featured in the next book. Overall, this book provides the author's trademark adventure, romance, and inspiration with complex characters that you can't help but root for.

A brilliant race to survive. Man against nature story with so many layers. Excellent story that ends with a bang and sweetness. I couldn't quit reading!

The Heart of a Hero was even more amazing than I had hoped. After reading book one, The Way of the Brave, and seeing the way Jake's story had ended...I couldn't wait to start this and find out what happened next!
The story was intense; constant danger and wondering what was going to occur in the following pages. I kept being drawn into reading "one more chapter"...until I had finished. lol
With great characters, a sweet romance, and excellent writing, I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Heart of a Hero and recommend it. I can't wait for the next book!

Susan May Warren yet again weaves a heart-pounding tale laced with romance and brimming with spiritual truths but this time set on an island off Florida in the midst of a hurricane. This is book 2 in the series and I suggest reading the series in order to catch and appreciate all the nuisances in the plot and character development. Eagle-eyes will see some neat comments about characters from her previous two series (Montana Marshalls and Montana Rescue), which is super-fun for fans of the author.
The adrenaline-filled action and suspense come from surviving a hurricane and the aftermath on an island, which is a bit different from scaling an icy mountain in Alaska (which happened in The Way of the Brave). Jake proves himself a true hero who "does the hard thing despite the cost" while scrounging for supplies, helping Aria stabilize the wounded, fighting off bad guys, and rescuing multiple people stranded during the storm. Jake is impulsive, smart, wickedly resourceful, a man of action but unexpectedly sensitive and tender. Yet he has a troubled past and needs to accept forgiveness. I really enjoyed getting to know Jake's large family and hope that we'll see more of the Silver family in the future books.
Aria is a pediatric cardiac surgeon who excels at work but lacks confidence in who she is in her personal life. Haunted by her twin sister's memory who lived life so differently, she must come to terms with who God has made her to be. Jake and Aria's love is passionate and all-consuming but also self-sacrificial and they challenge each other to be better and to strive for more.
And Ham! I am hanging onto the edge of my seat for Ham's full story to unfold. Some of his backstory is told in this book and that's just a carrot dangling until The Price of Valor releases in October!
I don't know how Susan May Warren does it (and I say this every time I read her newest release), but she ramps up the quality of her novels with each new book. If you enjoy contemporary romance with plenty of action, you will love this book and series. The book will grab you from the first page with its raw, heartfelt writing, intense action sequences, deeply-layered and complex characters worthy of your love, and spiritual truths that we all need to remember.

Susan May Warren has been a favorite author for many years. I like that her suspense books contain adventure, mystery and fast-paced action. The Heart of a Hero, which is the second book in the Global Search and Rescue series, contained all of those elements.
I liked Doctor Aria Sinclair and former SEAL Jake Silver from the first book, The Way of the Brave. They are book real people who face physical, emotional and spiritual struggles as they consider a relationship with one another. In the background of The Heart of the Hero we see glimpses into a future book with a backstory of Signe and Ham--another couple with real problems to overcome. I liked the characters in this book and I found the plot to be fast-paced. I was definitely driven to keep reading and to find out how the story worked out. I also liked that Warren takes on some spiritual challenges and weaves them in seamlessly. They don't feel preachy or stilted. At the same time, there is one struggle I wish she would have addressed more head-on in this book--and that is how Aria and Jake will handle their physical attraction from a spiritual perspective as they go forward. I think readers would like to see how that worked out for them in The Heart of a Hero. I am interested in seeing how things work out with Signe and Ham in the next book so I this book left me wanting to read more in the series. Also, as a bonus, I enjoyed Jake's love of Spam from his home state of Minnesota. The Global Search and Rescue series definitely builds on the previous book(s) so while readers could read each book alone, they would be better off to read the series in order.

Susan May Warren just cannot write a bad book. She can't even write a mediocre one. Her books move me more than I have words adequate to describe. They are powerful, moving and so spiritually nourishing.
'SEAL Jake was lethal, fierce, and willing to do whatever it took to protect her.'
This is the 2nd book in Warren's Global Search and Rescue series and it is Jake Silver and Aria's story. Two people w ho never feel they are enough, but must rely on God to get them through a Cat 5 hurricane and the dangers the aftermath brings.
'Panic comes when we stop believing God is good. Or that God is sovereign.'
Susan May Warren has the unique ability to create characters that just jump off the page in your heart and you soon find yourself forgetting that they are fictional people. They are just that real. And full of emotions that the reader can relate to. Not just a fantasy world populated by make believe characters. This is a story that proves to the believer that God's plan is for us to accept not only His forgiveness, but our own, to let Him wash us clean, chosen as beloved. I do love this oh so important aspect of a Warren book. She takes us to church and we find spiritual lessons that we can apply to our lives. Reading a Susan May Warren novel is not just a great way to entertain yourself for a few hours or however long it takes you to read the book. It is an experience that lives in your heart long after you close the book. Well done! Very highly recommended.

Ok, so...this will probably be easier if I mention the things I did like. Or maybe say I'm learning that reading a book where unrealistic life-threatening situations happen back to back is a pet peeve and I should probably avoid them.
I loved Mimi. I loved her faith and words of wisdom. She spoke with such peace and love about her Savior and how He "is willing." That was one of my favorite moments in the book. She was speaking to Jake: "She rolled back, holding her mask. "I am willing." Along with that: "That is the posture of God, Jake. That is the posture of love. If you're looking for a hero, you don't have to look any further than Jesus. The one who, for the joy -the love- gave everything, including his life, to rescue us from death, even though we didn't deserve it."
Like I said I am not a fan of plots where the characters go through situations that are VERY unrealistic and just over the top. I got tired of the near-death and even sometimes death situations that Aria and Jake found themselves in - over and over again sometimes back to back to back. I liked the chemistry that the two of them had, but her being so wishy-washy was exhausting. And maybe it's just me, but I found some of Jake's inner thoughts and actions very non-SEAL-like.
"Forgiveness is a moving target. You have to find it and tell yourself the truth every day, as declared in God's Word. You are forgiven. Nothing can separate you from God's love." This quote is from Chuck (who was compared to Jeff Bridges in the book) Jake's dad.
It's because of the quotes that I've shared in this review that keeps me reading books that have me eye-rolling more than not. I just hope the third book in this series is not consumed with the same life-threatening scenarios that happen on every other page. I can see it working if there were some supernatural power or something.

Language: no profanity, no use of deity, implied swearing
Recommended: yes with a fair warning for the above nonsense

Another wild ride in this series.
I liked this one better than the best, despite all the technical stuff about sailing a catamaran in the beginning.
Aria and Jake were secondary characters in book 1 and we already know them. They had a connection, but then there was a misunderstanding. But Jake hasn't been able to forget Aria and she still has feelings for him, despite what she tells him and herself.
When Aria goes to FL for a conference and some vacation time, she gets sick and sends Jake a text by mistake. Knowing there's a hurricane coming, he doesn't even think twice and goes after her.
How many problems can these two get in? ALL THE PROBLEMS! Wild ride doesn't begin to describe it. And every time, they're there for each other and for those around them.
Looks like Ham's story is next and we'll finally get the to see him with his family complete, after a series of problems, I'm sure.

I love the adventure and danger mixed with romance in Susan May Warren's books. It really keeps things exciting and moving along at a fantastic pace. This series, like some of her other more recent, has individual stories happening along with an over arching story line. It's all connected but comes together a bit at a time. I really love this approach because it keeps everything interesting. It also means that you really must read these books in order to keep up with everything happening.
Jake is the kind of guy that runs straight into danger. Literally. It's as if he just cannot help himself. He is a hero by all definitions and in this book, he was running into danger on practically every single page. It made my heart weak. haha. I loved his strength and determination. I loved his hero kindness.
Aria is so smart and although she is battling some pretty big demons, she really keeps things together for other people when it counts. I loved watching her grow and accept herself. Jake is the kind of guy that runs straight into danger. Literally. It's as if he just cannot help himself. He is a hero by all definitions and in this book, he was running into danger on practically every single page. It made my heart weak. haha. I loved his strength and determination. I loved his hero kindness.
Aria is so smart and although she is battling some pretty big demons, she really keeps things together for other people when it counts. I loved watching her grow and accept herself. God showed up in the storms. And saved-not from the disaster, but through it, even when she couldn't see the shore.
The above quote was made by a very wise character is this great story. As typical of Susan May Warren, there is lots of action, suspense, danger, romance, and faith. Jake Silver followed Aria Sinclair from Minnesota to Key West where she was attending a medical conference when he heard about a hurricane headed her way. That's what he does. He heads toward danger, not away. Jake and Aria met in the first Global Search and Rescue story when Jake and two of his friends rescued Aria and two of her friends from Denali during a blizzard. The two have unfinished business.
As Hurricane Lucy heads toward the Keys, highways are crowded with evacuees but they don't make it out. And the two had a wild time when they are stuck in a hospital in Key West with other people caught in the storm. Between the storm and other problems, there is much to deal with. This is another edge of the seat read and great addition to the series. A side story that involves Jake's boss Hamilton Jones is going on when he finds out that he has a ten year old daughter by his wife that he thought was dead. That story is ongoing.
Having lived through a Cat 5 storm when Hurricane Michael hit the Florida panhandle where I live on October 10, 2018, this is a story that I can say I lived through really. The above quote really has meaning for me. Our community still has not recovered. We had 60 to 80 year old pines fall in our yard and could see them fall but not hear them for the noise of the storm. Our north facing windows were blown and the wind stucked the deadbolted front door open. We had water, shingles, insulation, leaves and debris inside our house. Afterwards, our neighbors walked out in shock connecting with each other. Our small neighborhood was landlocked by downed trees and water across the streets. No power or water for close to two weeks. Surreal, indeed!

My belief in a hero/heroine is when someone gives up whatever they're doing at the moment to help others.
Jake Silver is just such a person! I'd be happy to have him rescue me anytime./anywhere! Such a magnificent and caring man! I loved him from the beginning of this story.
But, we really can't forget the true hero and that is Jesus Christ the One who died for us. He took it upon himself to die for our sons so that we might have eternal life. That's really my true Hero. You see, He was willing to drop everything and do this for us.
I like the theme of forgiveness too. If Jesus can forgive us then why is it so hard to forgive ourselves? It's because we can't see past the end of our nose and too stubborn to admit that we're wrong at times.
There's certain events in life that are out of our control just like in Jake Silver's and Aria's but she was smart enough to know about the Lord.
Aria reminds me of me at times. Stubborn, rushes into things.
I really hate how she runs Jake down, and she always wants to do things herself not wanting to except help from anyone.

I finished this book in a couple of hours because I didn't want to leave the characters behind. I don't like to say goodbye!
I give this book 5 stars for a well written novel and I will be looking forward to book 3.

The Heart of a Hero was full of action-packed adventure as the story picked up with Jake and Aria, who definitely had some romantic moments in book one, The Way of the Brave. Things just seem to keep going wrong for these two! I loved that this book’s title truly embodied Jake. He was so completely a hero and couldn’t help but give his all for Aria and anyone else who needed him.
Jake and Aria had some huge issues and burdens from their pasts that impacted them. They both had big journeys to take, emotionally and spiritually, in order to get past what held them down. I loved seeing their hearts for each other, and especially the way Jake fell completely for Aria.
The side story featuring Ham was very interesting and I am definitely excited to read the next book in the series. The Global Search and Rescue series is a series that needs to be read in order and even ties into the Montana Marshalls series with some overlapping events. I’m loving finding out more and more details with every book.

Former Navy SEAL Jake Silver and Pediatric Heart Doctor Aria Sinclair's story has no shortage of action. This section of the novel sums things up nicely: "You sweep in here like you're Superman, carrying a pregnant woman. Then you put out a fire, find a puppy for crying out loud and bring me Cheetos. I mean what's next...donating a kidney?"

Christian fiction at its finest. There are so many wonderful elements to these stories. I enjoy the characters, the plot and the delivery. I'm excited to continue the series.

THE HEART OF A HERO is another thrilling ride in this series, this story being part military suspense and part rescue mission. The characters are well drawn, the romance has plenty of tension, and there's a strong religious element as these characters deal with their demons. Recommended to fans of the author and Christian romantic suspense.
I really loved the beginning of this story when Jake and Aria first reconnect and the bit of jostling and jealousy that ensues. Then there's Jake who takes off after Aria, which I found quite endearing right there. He totally wears his heart on his sleeve for her even though she keeps rejecting him. This title is really perfect for this story because Jake can't help being a hero and I loved him for it! Then there is Aria. She is very skilled as a doctor with amazing smarts, but she isn't so smart in some other areas of her life. She's got a huge heart and can't help but care for others even if it means her staying through a hurricane. I really liked Jake and Aria together with the chemistry between them and all the fun banter. Jake's dialogue made me laugh on multiple occasions and he's also got all the swoon-worthy lines too. The other characters were also interesting as was Ham's storyline in the background. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what happens next with that in the third book, THE PRICE OF VALOR.
I did also have a few issues with this story. I got a bit tired of the back and forth between Jake and Aria, particularly in regards to Aria since it was mostly on her side. One minute she's falling in Jake's arms and the next she's seething mad at him. Just very dramatic and a bit immature. There also was a really strong religious aspect to this story with lots of counsel and words from one of the characters that sometimes felt like a sermon rather than a natural conversation. A lot of that was repeated too as the characters seemed to get it and then didn't and they started all over. I think that could have been edited more and worked through the story in a better way. I also felt a bit torn between the two storylines. I understood why Ham's storyline needed to continue in this book, but since it also mixes with a prior series a bit, it felt like things were glossed over and not fully developed in places—like the author was trying to do too much.
In the end, was it what I wished for? This was an entertaining read with climatic elements due to a hurricane, criminals loose on an island, and a man trying to find his thought-dead wife. Great characters, a delightful romance, and the heart of a father desperate to make sense of things made for a wonderful story.

Jake is solid, strong, brave, adventurous, and carries a lot of baggage. His selflessness and kindness are almost endearing when we get a glimpse of the insecurities, vulnerability and hurt he hides.
While I found this story enjoyable, with its hurricane devastation scenario, Aria’s reluctance to embrace romance and accept or live with her and Jake’s differences and the pact and tendency to compartmentalize things (what happened in Alaska stays in Alaska) seem to take a big part of the story.
I found Aria took too many risks, considering her clinical condition and the knowledge she has because of her job as a doctor, or perhaps the character is prone to natural disasters, this time a hurricane in Florida.

I don’t know how Susan May Warren does it, but she continually produces first rate novels. Her latest is one more example of what a master she is. The Heart of a Hero is Jake’s and Aria’s story. We were introduced to them in The Way of the Brave, and Jake’s story is one I’ve been looking forward to reading. I am especially fond of the trope where the hero can’t see he’s good and worthy. Jake is such a character and you can’t feel anything but love and admiration for him. He continually demonstrates his inner goodness by his willingness to sacrifice himself if necessary to protect and save the people he loves. This Global Search and Rescue series is more character driven than previous series by Warren, but I like that about it. There is plenty of action in the latest offering, but like its predecessor, it takes a while for it to crank up. Once it does crank up, though, it is a definite page turner. As always there is the spiritual element in the book. I’m very fond of that too. Warren does a fabulous job of showing any reader that no matter what we’ve done or how far we feel we’ve strayed, God is right there waiting for us to just give Him control. If you’re not particularly religious or Christian, don’t let the faith element stop you from reading The Heart of a Hero. It’s a five-star in my opinion, and it will entertain you. I received an ARC, but I have ordered a copy for my Susan May Warren collection.

Anytime I see the name Susan May Warren on the cover of a book, I know I’m in for a treat. She writes some of THE BEST heroes, and Jake is no exception to that. She also writes some pretty intense, riveting, hold your breathe scenes. Yeah, The Heart of a Hero had that too. Several in fact. Each new series I read from Warren are my new favorite. Once again, this series is no exception.
Jake is the kind of guy every girl is dreaming about. He follows his heart, fights for what he wants, and isn’t afraid to take risks to save the woman he loves (even though he won’t admit he loves her just yet!). Watching his character make rash decisions and then just go forward full steam ahead was thrilling. Hurricane coming? Well that’s no problem for our hero. Hospital might collapse? Nothing to worry about. Jake really is knight in shining armour that comes to save the day, and he seemingly appears out of nowhere!
Of course no book by Warren would be complete without romance. Jake and Aria were a little different though. They had this past that they needed to sort through, one that I think a lot of people would be able to connect with. I actually like that Warren took the approach that she did with their back story. I think that young readers can learn from it!
The bottom line is this is a story, well series, that you do not want to miss. I highly recommend starting with book one before diving into this one. You won’t be sorry, trust me! The first book in this series was in Alaska and WOW, there was so much action I thought, “My goodness what else could go on with these characters?” Well, this is a Susan May Warren’s book and I have to remember, what I’ve said MANY times . . .
“This author keeps us on the seat of our chairs gripping the armrest trying to breathe. In this story, there is action, romance, drama, running for their lives, kidnapping attempts, shootings, pain, Oh, the pains! I’m so glad I’m not one of her characters because of all the things she puts them through. WOW! The action is non-stop and jaw-dropping.”
SO, I shouldn’t have been surprised that in continuing the series, this author would keep that action-packed, high-drama, intensity going.
In this story, we find out more regarding Jake and Aria and their struggles. Their lives have so much past pain and feelings of failure. Will they be able to rise above the raging waters of self-doubt before it takes them down? Can they find acceptance in each other?
We also get a teaser of what’s to come in the next book. We meet Ham’s little girl and read about some of the struggles he’s dealing with. I personally enjoyed reading connections to the Montana Marshalls series Susan May Warren wrote. It’s always fun to reconnect with past characters from her other books.

Wowza! What an awesome thrill ride! Susan May Warren is one of my favorite authors and I always eagerly anticipate her next release! The Heart of a Hero lived up to all my expectations!
I loved this book! Aria was a fabulous heroine, I loved her determination and her heart for others, I also found myself relating to her quite a bit, our personalities are similar!
I don't think I've met one of Susie May's heroes that I haven't loved, and in Jake I found a new book boyfriend to add to my collection, I love his steadfastness, his protectiveness, his gentleness, and that he made me laugh with his corny jokes!
I'm always in awe of this author's magnificent ability to write in such a way as to paint a vivid picture of the surroundings so I can see it my mind without slowing down the action in the slightest! And this book was no exception, I could hear the howling wind, and see the pouring rain and storm surge as though I was living through it right alongside the characters!
Also, I just have to say that I have loved Ham since he first appeared in Wait for Me, and I was so excited when I first found out that this series follows members of his team, and I was doubly excited that he is actually a POV character in this book, it was great to get inside his head and I cannot wait to read his book, The Price of Valor when it releases later this year!

The Heart of a Hero was a wild ride from the beginning! I enjoyed getting to know both main characters, Jake and Aria, as well as learning more about Ham and his family. (I'm dying to read his book!) There's no shortage of action, suspense, and drama, not to mention romantic tension. I have to admit I grew frustrated with the Characters when they would go off on a romantic tangent or tiff in the middle of a life threatening situation. Just didn't always seem very realistic to me. Warren's writing style is as engaging as ever, and that combined with the nail biting suspense keeps you reading late into the night! (At least, it did me.) Just when I thought things were going well and our characters were going to be all right, something else happens and I'm on the edge of my seat again! If there's one thing Warren knows how to do well, it's suspense. I also loved the cast of supporting characters with their individual storylines that tugged at your heart but didn't distract from the main story.
All in all, if you're looking for a romantic and suspenseful wild ride, definitely check out this series!

Just as I expected—Susan May Warren does not disappoint with The Heart of a Hero. I still haven’t read The Way of the Brave, and though I know the series is likely more enjoyable when read in order, I still enjoyed this second Global Search and Rescue book immensely.
Disaster finds former sniper and Navy SEAL Jake Silver and pediatric heart surgeon Aria Sinclair once again. Aria heads to Florida for vacation—just in time for a dangerous hurricane to bear down on the area. Of course, Jake cannot let her face it alone.
As the pair faces the challenges of the disaster, their story proves to be action-packed and exciting—with sweet threads of romance and faith. There is a lot to love about The Heart of a Hero, and I cannot wait to read more of the series.

If you are looking for a fast paced, edge of your seat, action packed adventure, look no further than Susan May Warren’s newest novel The Heart of a Hero. This second book in Warren’s Global Search and Rescue series takes up immediately where the previous book concludes, so you will want to make sure to have read that first to fully appreciate the characters and plot of this one. And true to Warren’s style, this story is cover to cover action, with twists, turns, and danger the entire way through.
Set in the middle of a hurricane in the Florida Keys, this book centers on our hero and heroine Jake and Aria. While I felt their romance moved a little too swiftly, Warren did an excellent job of developing her characters and redeem-ing them in spite of their flaws. Warren’s characters are always relatable, and she has a gift of presenting the mes-sage of hope, forgiveness, and identity in Christ in the midst of utter devastation.
I always look forward to a new Susan May Warren book. She is not an author to be missed!

Aria Sinclair is still recovering from a harrowing mountain rescue when she gets caught in a category 4 hurricane. Miraculously Jake shows up and they ride out the storm with a handful of people who also didn't make it off the island. There are plenty of trials and troubles. Life-threatening danger hovers around every corner.
I appreciated Mimi's words to Aria, "Don't you worry about a thing. God always shows up in a storm" (location 1430). Timely words for us all as we go through a global pandemic.
Jake and Aria both have incredible issues to work through but they make real headway as they allow others to speak into their lives. Relationships with people who go through the storms with us can develop quickly. I appreciated how the group all worked together and sacrificed for one another. It made me cry. It was so moving.
I would highly recommend this book and this series. Warren does a great job of getting things prepped for the next book and I can't wait to read more of Ham's story. Thank you to Revell for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Susan May Warren has written another great, action packed, edge of your seat book that is hard to put down until you finish it! Heart of a Hero is the second book in the Global Search and Rescue Series.
Jake Silver, a formal navy seal is a great man that is always stepping into dangerous situations to rescue others He has some things from his past that haunt him and he has a hard time forgiving himself.
Dr. Aria Sinclair is a surgeon who struggles with the fact that her twin sister died, giving Aria her heart in order for her to live
We met and fell in love with Jake and Aria in book one when Jake rescued Aria from an Alaskan Mountaintop. I could not wait to hear their story and it does not disappoint. This time Jake chases after Aria when he hears a in CAT 5 hurricane is headed toward the island where Aria is at a conference.
This book is full of suspense, pain and healing as Jake and Aria and other stranded hurricane victims learn to lean on God and learn great lessons in forgiveness.

I've read more than sixty Susan May Warren books and I can honestly say she is in a class all her own when it comes to romantic suspense full of action and adventure. She has an amazing talent for weaving a circle of close-knit family and friends into dangerous situations full of challenges most would run from.
The Heart of a Hero was just such a story. Her characters are appealing, yet realistically flawed and imperfect. The southernmost setting of Key West is one I love and could totally visualize the story playing out there with a threatening storm closing in and vicious criminals on the lose.
The main thing I love though in every Susan May Warren book, is her ability to seamlessly blend a thrilling story with spiritual inspiration that always goes straight to my heart. Some of my favorite quotes:
"God showed up in the storms. And saved-not from disaster, but through it, even when she couldn't see the shore."
"God could take the hard memories and diminish them, replace them with good. In his hands, my heart is safe. He protects it. Heals it. I can trust him, because even when it hurts, life is good. And he is sovereign."
As ever, I am looking forward to The Prince of Valor and seeing how the Global Search and Rescue series all comes together. There are enough clues hidden in The Heart of a Hero to solve at least one of the mysteries if I am guessing correctly. I appreciate Revell Publishing through Netgalley making a copy of The Heart of a Hero available for review. All thoughts and opinions are my very own.

So before reading this book I had no idea that there was a subgenre of romance that was Christian-Romantic-Suspense. Who knew? I honestly wouldn't think that the two would work together - but this book made it work. As always, I will say that Christian Romance really isn't my thing - I didn't realize this book would have strong Christian themes when I picked it up.
Overall, I enjoyed it even though it wasn't 100% my cup of tea. Jake is a former Navy Seal who is now working with a global search and rescue team. He is definitely a good guy and, even with his baggage, a true hero. Aria is a periatric cardiothoracic surgeon who is at the top of her field. She has a complicated history as well and really needs to plan less exciting vacations!
A lot of stuff happens in this book - and it very much keeps you on the edge of your seat. There are some aspects that challenged my ability to suspend disbelief - but I still liked it. I would be interested in seeing where the series goes and what happens with a lot of the characters.
For example, I don't think we've seen the last of Angel and I definitely am interested to see what happens with Jake's other sisters.
Overall a solid book that I wasn't expecting!

A gripping tale of an impulsive ex-SEAL who has never believed in himself. He’s made many mistakes, some tragic, but he’s trying his best to do what he feels is his duty to others. Like the beautiful doctor he rescues form a mountain in Alaska.
The doctor was an very ill child until her twin sister was killed in an accident and she received her heart; making her feel so guilty and making her impulsive to try to live for the twin who died.
Jake feels so much for Aria but doesn’t feel worthy until his friends finally persuade him to follow her to a vacation in Key West. A great idea - except for the Category 5 hurricane and the fact that Aria will not give up on her motel manager when she collapses.
Through a string of events, they meet the same people at different times in different situations. Aria makes it to the hospital with her patient. No one is there, they’ve evacuated. Jake finally finds the motel she was staying in but, of course; she’s gone.
I should know better than to start a book when I go to bed! I was up half the night reading and had to make myself put it down. Stress, romance, missing friends and a puppy named Ringo make this an unforgettable tale with another to follow. Ms Warren, hurry up! Out on June 2.
