Akh! Lord save me from milquetoast heroines! I would have rated this novella much higher if it wasn’t for Meghan. She had the personality of a wet blanket. She was shy, insecure, and timid; constantly wringing her hands, tearing up at the smallest things, and stuttering.
I read this book for a few reasons: I love omegaverse books, I love BDSM books, and I loved this author’s other book, December. One of the reasons I loved “December” so much was because of the heroine. She was an Omega but she kicked ass! Even after a lot of bad stuff happened to her, she didn’t turn into a whimpering idiot. I was hoping for more of the same with this book, but with a BDSM twist! Unfortunately, it did not deliver. I get that Meghan is a submissive and an Omega, which meant she had to be somewhat subservient to the Alpha, but that didn’t mean she had to be so timid and scared of her own shadow. Every time she stuttered, I found myself rolling my eyes. Also, the book very light on the BDSM aspect, with just a bit of vanilla bondage and some spanking (5 spanks to be exact, which of course made Milquetoast-Meghan cry).
I did like Daniel though. He was an Alpha, but not an as$hole. The one scene between Daniel and Meghan was good (although on the vanilla side of BDSM). I think this series has potential. I’m hopeful that Meghan will grow as a person and stop having such abysmally low self confidence after some time with Daniel. I do wish that there was more to this novella. I think there could have been one or two more chapters, rather than just ending the story so abruptly. It ended so suddenly, it might as well have ended mid sentence. I know it’s a continuous series, but I think there could have been more to this particular book.
