This is more than a nice little read or a good story. The feelings of Rongo being separated from her turangawaewae, the striving of of Hone to succeed in a “foreign” world, the arrogance of Steve after 3 generations to say to his hosts that working the land is what matters - have these things changed materially from 1965?
A nice little read. Pretty simple dialogue though it successfully conveyed the author's intentions: displaying the struggle of two separate worlds coming together and the struggle of identity that this poses.
