Stuart Reid is an Iron Master—a Dark Fae with a rare ability to make iron do his bidding. Exiled by the High Fae who fear him, he now lives in a simple house in Shiftertown outside Las Vegas, watching over Peigi, a bear Shifter woman, and the cubs she cares for.
Peigi, rescued from an evil Shifter and welcomed into the Vegas Shiftertown, knows Reid and the cubs have helped her survive and heal.
She also knows Reid is alone and lonely, a strong man coping with his exile. The bond she feels pulling her to him scares the crud out of her—she’s been down this road before.
When Reid’s people send him a desperate call for help, Peigi senses danger to him—too much of it. She finds she’ll do anything, even sacrifice herself and her happiness, to keep him safe.

Iron Master is book twelve in the Shifters Unbound series by Jennifer Ashley.
I adore and love returning to the Shifters Unbound world. I was captured by book one and look forward to each new installment. If your thinking about picking up this series then I recommend reading in order. Theirs an overall ARC that is carried out and progress in each novel; besides getting a new couple with each new book.
Peigi and Stuart were a long time coming. If you’ve been following the series then you see these two in the background dancing around each other, but now it’s their time to find love.
These two where so awkward and clearly smitten with each other, but not sure how to take things to the next level. It was fun to see everyone in Shiftertowns say “about time”. The cubs, and where their a lot featured, where just so adorable and cute. I loved having them. They added to the story and you got to see how Stuart and Peigi each interacted with their adoptive cubs.
Many previous couples and characters were incorporated and someone from Dylan’s clan pops ups and you are wondering what is he doing in Faeire.
The unexpected adventure into Faeire was interesting and Ben, oh my, what we learn is shocking.
Iron Master was another wonderful adventure into the Shifters Unbound series.

First Impressions Iron Master is the 12th installment in the "Shifter's Unbound" series and I was eager for this one because the hero and heroine have both been in many books in the series play significant roles and there has been slow tension that has been building between them for quite a while. I really admired the way that this book was written, it had a fun plot and the romance was endearing even if it was low key. I am sure my enjoyment was severely impacted by my health issues but I did a combo of this one in both ebook and the audio and both versions were quite fun to read and these are shorter books now so you can get through it pretty quickly.
First Line "Stuart"
The Main Protagonists The Hero: Stuart The Heroine:Peigi
What I Loved Iron Master was quite fun. We have a great forbidden love match in a way between these two. Although no one is shocked that they end up together in Shiftertown even though Stuart Reid is a fae and one of their enemies that they just work with because he is rejected by his own people and have helped them in different ways. I really found it intriguing in the way in which the author show cased this element. I found the plot of the story to be the highlight of the story actually. It definitely keeps you on edge all the way through and I was always questioning where it would go and how it would be resolved in the end. And I did enjoy the setting being not in shiftertown like many of these books, but set in the fae realms and you can definitely feel like more is going to happen to where it left off here.
The romance was interesting. It was more softly placed so if you are a fan of how romantic suspense books are written, then you will enjoy this. The romance I wouldn't say being the primary focus, it was definitely the suspense plot of things, but it was well established within the story, but you would probably get more out of it if you have read the previous books so that you can get the slow build up all the way through.
What I Struggled With I wanted to love this one more than I did but I just didn't feel the connection that is between Stuart and Peigi to be honest. I knew of their connection beforehand as I have read the previous books but I was disappointed that I didn't get more feels from their relationship. I felt like it was so focused on the plot and the sexual side of it that we didn't see much development in the emotional side of the relationship. I know it may work for some readers, but it fell a bit short for me but still ended up being a solid read.
Narration I really enjoyed the narration of this story. It really dug into the vibe of the series and captured it just right from what us readers have loved since the very beginning.
Overall View Iron Master is a well crafted story that digs into well detailed plot lines, capturing the culture of shiftertown and delivering a well balanced tale of suspense and laughter to entertain from beginning to end.

Steam/Spice Explanations
Steamin' up the room -the sexual content is more explicit in the language and tone, heavier amount of sexual scenes.
I really liked this one. Peigi and Stuart are already like 2 peas in a pod. They just haven't crossed that line from friends to lovers yet. But they are already IN love. Then something happens to jolt them out of their comfortable uncomfortable rut. Stuart is called upon to help his brethren in Faeire. Things have changed and he can now move back and again be an 'Iron Master'. He wields great power there and a part of him misses that magic. But in this world he has Peigi and the 6 cubs they are raising together. There's a bit of prejudice he will continue to contend with if he stays with the shifters even though he isn't the same kind of Fae who enslaved them centuries ago. On the Faeire side he will need to contend with the shifters who have been seduced back under the thumbs of the High Fae. Should he go help the Dark Fae save themselves from being overrun by the High Fae? And Peigi is right there with him every step. She won't let him go alone. And then other shifters prove that he is more important to them than he had thought. Along the journey Peigi learns more about Stuart Reid. He has been keeping a lot of himself back while living with the shifters. And Peigi is so much better than she was when he rescued her in Wild Cat and brought her to the Vegas shifter town. She's ready to live her life but she wants to live it with Stuart.
Finally! Yes! We finally have a book about Reid and Peigi. It took them long enough to finally go for it. And I loved it. As every character in the series also loved it, it finally happened! Yaaaay.
I was quite emotional with the orphaned cubs. They were a hurricane but soooo cute. Sigh.
Peigi and Stuart have been slowly getting closer throughout this series. She is very cautious because of her past and Stuart is too. But these two really like each other so it was really nice to see these two finally giving into their feelings.
Stuart starts hearing from his people that they need his help even though he's been exiled and never thought he could go back home. Peigi has a feeling that he's in danger and asks the other shifters to help out and even though they don't actually trust Stuart because he's dark Fae, they do decide to help where they can.
The shifters are still in shifter towns and a lot of humans still don't like them. The one things about this series that I've always hated was how badly the shifters are treated by the humans. Shifters have to wear collars that shock them when they get angry and have to live in shifter towns. They don't have a lot of freedom or rights.
Stuart has been helpful to the shifters so they allow him to live in one of the shifter towns. He lives in a house with Peigi and her adopted cubs. He looks out for her and the cubs. When Stuart is called home to Faerie because he can manipulate iron and the dark Fae need him to help them before the light Fae kill them all I knew things were going to be complicated. There are a couple of twists that were interesting but I thought the story wrapped up nicely.
I really liked reading Peigi and Stuart's book. I've been waiting for them to finally see that they were meant for each other. I would definitely read this series in order to get a better understanding of what is going on from one book to another.
It was really hard not to like this one, Peigi and Stuart were so cute and then there were all the cubs. Peigi and Stuart were both so deliously awkward and clearly smitten with each other from the start, just not sure how to take things to the next level. The drama that spilt over from the fae world seemed to help them move things along. It was fun to see everyone in the Shiftertowns say "about time" and how the cubs came up with demands of their own. These two firmly deserved their HEA.
In Jennifer Ashley's fascinating Shifters world, Shifters were created by the Fae by combining animal and human DNA into three species: Feline (leopards, tigers, lions, etc.), Bear (grizzlies, brown and black bears) and Lupine (wolves). For centuries, the Shifters were slaves to the Fae until Shifters rose up, went to war and escaped to the human realm. Since they had human DNA, they were able to hide their animal nature and assimilated into the human world. It wasn't until their true animal state was discovered that they were rounded up, forced to wear collars made by Fae magic and put into "Shifter Towns" where they had no civil rights, were not allowed access to cable, internet, smart phones, etc., nor could they own property or their own businesses. They are prohibited from traveling and strictly monitored by humans out of fear and ignorance. They are forced to follow rules meant to subdue their violent, animal natures. Humans believe they’re tamed and rendered harmless. While they developed their own hierarchy and family structures, unbeknown to humans, the restrictions have proven to be useless as they have adapted and found ways around the "rules." That does not mean that they are in anyway violent towards humans or planning to overthrow them, but they are guarded and protective of their own and prepared for the day that they will once again have proven their ability to live in peaceful coexistence with their human counterparts without being collared, confined and controlled. And, they are always on their guard that their human counterparts might decide that they are not controlled and might rise up against the human world. Jennifer Ashley's Shifter world is a primal, passionate and magical world.
Iron Master is the 12th book in the Shifter Unbound Series. Fans of the series will recognize our hero, Stuart Reid, a Dark Fae from "Mate Claimed" and "Wild Wolf." Reid, feared by the Light Fae because of his ability to handle/manipulate iron which poisons and kills the Light Fae, has been banished from Faerie. The Dark Fae hate the Light Fae as much as the Shifters do. Living for 50 years in the human realm, being able to teleport and having proven useful and helpful to the Shifters, Reid is allowed to live in the Las Vegas Shiftertown watching over Peigi, a bear shifter, and abandoned cubs.
Peigi, who was previously held captive by a feral Shifter for twenty-five years and rescued, in part by Reid, is our heroine in this story. Peigi, under Reid's care and watchful eye coupled with her need to nurture and protect the abandoned cubs who were held captive with her, has slowly and surely been emotionally healing from her years of captivity. It is no secret to all the other residents of the Las Vegas Shiftertown where they reside that she has fallen in love with Reid, but is afraid of pairing up with a Fae. When the Dark Fae call Reid home to Faerie because of his abilities with mastering iron to keep them from being annihilated by the Light Fae, Peigi and Reid are forced to admit the deep feelings they have and unite to help save the remaining Dark Fae from total extinction which will have dire consequences for humans and Shifters alike.
With each book in this intriguing and sexy series, Jennifer Ashley has provided more hints into the fascinating worlds of the Fae and Shifters. Just when you think you have it figured out, she reveals a new piece that extends more of the story line in this engrossing world. Bringing depth to the mysterious Reid and his character into the full light and showing how completely Reid's character fulfills the potential of Peigi's character was brilliant. There were several times in the story where I couldn't fathom how they would extricate themselves from seemingly impossible situations nor complete the harrowing mission they found themselves on. Nor was I sure they would find a way to be completely together. That is a sure sign of a very talented storyteller. And, it is always a treat to have a another visit from Dylan and the ever insightful, Shifter of few words, my favorite Tiger. That little twist at the end was a kick! Iron Master is another winner in this terrific Shifter series.
This book was provided as an ARC from the author for my unbiased, honest opinion. I always write my reviews with complete honesty and was happy to do so with this completely honest review. ;)
I absolutely loved this novel. It incorporated so many of my favorite characters in the series. The main characters, Stuart and Peg wrap around your heart and hold your attention to the very end. I was rather surprised, though, that were so very many mechanical errors in the text. It felt like every other page had at least one error which interrupts the flow of the reader. It's hard to believe something would be released for publication without being proofed.
I loved this series from Pride Mates on. Some books are excellent! Some are okay. This one has a great story, but I found the romance kind of boring. There wasn't any great emotional moments really, just proclaiming what everyone knew, so it just kind of let me down. Though I did like Reid's badass self flinging iron around Faerie!
Living as a family with six assorted orphan cubs and nurturing bear shifter Peigi as she heals from years of captivity and abuse, exiled Dark Fae Stuart Reid has made himself useful in the Nevada shiftertown, he’s made himself at home with Peigi and the cubs but mostly he’s made himself necessary to Peigi.
Though Stuart and Peigi both fight their strong and evident mutual attraction, the battle is all but done when Stuart is bodily summoned by to Faerie by fae leader Cian. According to Cian’s plan, Stuart’s skill as an Iron Master is necessary to prevent the light fae faction from overrunning the dark fae and subsequently returning shifters to slavery.
Peigi isn’t about to let Stuart face the problem without her at his side, she needs him and so do the cubs they foster together. Fan favorites from previous outings, including Tiger, Ben, Dylan, Jaycee and Dimitri and ‘the haunted house’ make appearances as the battle heats up and Dylan has an ulterior motive.
Not this series fan favorite outing. Overall, the pacing was too slow or perhaps the story not as challenging and entertaining for my taste. IMO this read would have served better as a short. Rating: 3.5stars
Iron Master was a little different in that the pairing was Fae/Bear shifter this time. A little piece was added to the fae background ARC. It still was fairly standard fare romancewise for the series, with tons of micro cameos and name drops from the past books.
I cannot believe that I can only give his great story 4 stars, but the proof reading/editing was so bad that I could not give it the 5th star. I hope Ms. Ashley realises what a mess her people have made of her book.
I love this series so much, one of my favorites. And I think this series gets even better with every book. We fiiiinnnaalllyyyyyyy get Stuart and Peigi’s book. If you are like me, I have been waiting for this book f-o-r-e-v-e-r...seriously, forever. And clearly doing so “patiently”. The chemistry and love these two have is worth the wait.
Stuart is a Fae, that has been locked out of his home realm, Faerie, by another faerie people, that want to conquer and rule everyone and everything...everywhere. I know, I know...ain’t nobody got time for that. Peigi is a bear shifter that the shifter clan Stuart resides with saved from a feral shifter. Stuart has his own room at Peigi’s and helps her take care of six cubs from the rescue. So, if that’s not true love, I don’t know what is. Their story takes them back to Faerie, where we find out what a truly badass Stuart is, and how you do not mess with a female bears mate...cause that sh*t is real. These two together are an amazing and unstoppable team.
This was a safe read. With an amazing badass couple, and their adorable cubs. We get to see my Alpha Dylan, Ben, the Haunted House, and a lot of our other favorites from past books. I love this series so much and always, always want more....nowish. So great. #BookCrackSeries
What an adventure and what a rush. Jennifer Ashley has taken this couple on a wild ride. I loved the slow burn nature of their love story. It felt perfect for this couple. Stuart’s sensitivity and clear devotion to Peigi and her rescued cubs was perfect.
The cubs were amazing. I love how each cub has their own personality. I can’t get enough of the cameos from other stories. It grounds me into this shifter world like nothing else.
Unscheduled visits to Faerie... Dylan and Tiger and Shane oh my! If you don’t already know, this is number one top favorite shifter world. My only regret is that Jennifer Ashley has so many different worlds in progress that I have to wait for each installment.
Dare we dream that Ben and Lady Aisling have a story brewing?
Finally! Two of my favorite characters come together in a story filled with love and adventure against the backdrop of hate and bigotry. Exiled Dark Fae Stuart Reid has lived and worked among the shifters for years now helping where he can while trying to find his way home. Peigi is a female bear shifter who was among the rescued abused shifters that found themselves in the Vegas Shiftertown. Peigi has taken in six orphaned shifter cubs and they’ve begun the journey to healing. This is a story of two lonely people who find home in each others arms all while fighting off those who want them to do harm or want to harm them because they might do them harm. This book made me laugh, cry and sigh. A terrific addition to the series.
Finally! Freaking finally!! I’m so dang excited that Peggy and Reid finally got their book. I’ve loved Peggy from day 1. She is one bad mamanama! She’s got a very rocky past, heartbreaking past and now, after being in the Las Vegas shifter town for last three years she’s able to open up and be the woman she needs to be. I also love that she got to resolve some of her old demons with Miguel.
We also get to see Reid, who on his own is a total Badarse, open up and expose his inner self. He’s the perfect companion to Peggy. He loves her, the Cubs she’s taking care of and he has turned out to be an awesome dude. Even if he’s a fae.
I can’t wIt to see where they’re next adventure games them. You know there’s going to be more. There has to be!
Waited so long for Peigi & Stewart’s story, so worth it!! So many surprises in the story- love all the characters- they are all so unique & incredible! Going back to Farie is a scary thing- &... well, I’m not telling! Lol. Definitely a. Keeper book!!!
Great to catch up with my favorite shifter series. Never sure about those cross overs into Fae territory but then Stuart wouldn't exist. So ... Seeing Stuart become who he really is was memorable. Peigi stands tall and comes into her own.

COMMENTS/NOTES: Stuart and Peigi already know what they mean to each other. They just need that final push to get them there. Stuart disappearing and Peigi going after him to fairie cemented them. Adorable cubs to care for, loved how supportive shifters wanted Peigi and (to a lesser degree) Stuart happy. On to Ben's book!
FINAL DECISION: Ashley always melds the romance with the plot and ongoing storyline in these Shifter books! I loved Peigi and Stuart and am glad that she finally got a happy ending. She is one tough bear and has been through a lot and certainly deserves her happiness.
THE STORY: Peigi is a bear Shifter who has taken on caring for cubs that are not her own. Stuart Reid is a Dark Fae Iron Master; he has the ability to manipulate iron. Peigi and Reid have a bond, but neither has been quick to move on their attraction to one another. Reid disappears when he hears the call from his people, and he and Peigi search for how he can return. But Peigi also senses danger and is determined to stay at Reid's side to protect him.
OPINION: Peigi and Reid have built a family together and have finally moved to develop their own relationship. Both have lost family in different ways and yearn for being part of a unit. There is a sweetness between the two as the story begins and it is interesting how that turns up in heat as the story progresses.
Peigi really shines in this book as she grows and confronts her past. Reid is a darling and his devotion to Peigi really works here.
The plot of this book moves the overall storyline of the series forward. This book also revisits past storylines -- especially giving more detail about Peigi and Reid.
WORTH MENTIONING: I loved that many characters from the series make appearances in this book.
CONNECTED BOOKS: IRON MASTER is the twelfth book in the Shifters Unbound series. The story here is self-contained, but this book is much better to read as part of the series. There are many characters and situations from prior books in this novel. The rules of this universe are not re-explained here so new readers will probably be confused.
Oh yes! I was so excited to get to Stuart and Peigi's book! The squeaks I made when stuff happened...it's a really good thing I work from home because I would have been getting some really weird looks!
I loved the fact that these two were in love with each other from the beginning but were holding off because each of them had some kind of potential problem. I did get a little frustrated that Peigi spent so much time waffling on saying anything because she was so sure Stuart was going to go back to Faerie but at the same time, I kind of got it.
Ben is definitely more of a mystery (although I was laughing really hard at the image of Peigi chasing him as a tree because let's face it, that's funny) and I can't wait to read his book. His connection to the karmsyren was a surprise but also made me more curious about things because it's more hints that he's been around a really long time and points to things that I get the feeling are going to be big deals. I do want to see him smack Lady Aisling's husband around because that just seems like good entertainment.
The whole thing with Miguel/Michael felt almost too easy, considering everything. Like I liked that Peigi was able to face him/her fears and beat his ass but the fact that he just turned around and went "yeah Dylan's looking for me so I'm not going back" and they just let him go was annoying. I did like the fact that Peigi realized what her attacking him meant, so that was good but again, it just felt easy. Especially when he didn't really react when Noelle showed up and remembered him.
Stuart Reid (Stu Aire de Kennan de Reed) is an exiled Dokk alfar (Dark Fae) Iron Master. He's been banished from Fae lands for over fifty years. He's wanted to return to Faerie avenge his family, until Peigi came into his life.
Peigi is bear shifter who was abused by her pack leader. She came to Shiftertown an abused and hurt woman. Now she's healed and grown strong while taking in six cubs, with the help of Stuart.
These two may live in the same house but they've been avoiding their mutual attraction until a Dokk alfar calls to Reid for help to save their people. There are so many good things to enjoy in this story. Watching Reid and Peigi's love bloom, action and adventure as they keep getting pulled into Faerie, cameos of some of our favorite shifters as they try to help them, as well as six adorable cubs to charm the pants off you and make you laugh out loud.
Loved their story, and finally getting more deets on Reid and Ben's history. I was sad to read the last page I was having so much fun visiting the Shifters Unbound world.
Stuart and Peigi's Dokk/Bear Love Tryst! 4.45***** Spoiler Alert!
Peigi, rescued from Michael's abuse, bonded with the six abandoned cubs from the raid, and together with Stuart's Dokk Iron Master, help instilled confidence, love, and made a home for them. Stuart and Peigi were pulled back to Faerie Land, after his banishment by Cian, to first retrieve the lost Iron Warded Book that protected his people from their interlopers. The two with Crispin, Dylan's planted spy, found the novel destroyed by Lady Aisling' s husband, which led Ben the Goblin to create another. Of course Stu and Peg had their mating ceremony, and the six cubs led by Noelle drew up a new Mom & Dad agreement. HEA for the Reid Household!
Great characters and an interesting plot that portrayed Colonization via a SciFi lens, similar to the Europeans and Native tribes throughout history. The theme of honesty and open communication ran deep through this novel as being the cornerstone of all healthy relaiionships. Can't wait to read about the blossoming Dokk/ Shifter team to stem the fighting. A gravity defying reaf!
