How far would you go to stop a terrorist?

US Army CID Special Agent Regan Chase thought she knew the answer—until her target changed and her case blew up in her face.

"Your suspect is Special Forces."

The tip is from a Stateside colleague. With it comes the chilling reality: Regan's latest mission just might be her last. Has one of the Army’s elite soldiers turned terrorist? It's happened before—with deadly results.

Not only is this soldier more lethal than most, he's a master at rigging bombs. Unfortunately, Regan's gun-shy commander won’t let her tail the sergeant. Worse, her suspect has refused to take the bait—her.

Regan has one option left. She'll have to maintain her cover and get close to the sergeant's roommate, deliberately using their budding relationship to zero in on her target. But John Garrison is hiding something too.

Has the war-weary Green Beret captain been turned as well?

As the investigation deepens, lines are crossed—personal and professional. Even if Regan succeeds in thwarting a horrific bombing on German soil, what will the fallout do to her career?

Aimpoint is the 43,000-word prequel novella to the US Army CID Detective Regan Chase Series.

I love trying new authors and this one didn't disappoint.
Candace Irving's Detective Regan Chase series is one of the best I have read. Fast paced suspense with just the right amount of romance thrown in. This author grabs you from the first and you don't want to put it down until you are done. Looking forward to reading the next in the series.

I highly recommend this book if this is the type you enjoy reading.
The opinion expressed here is my own.

Regan Chase is a special agent with the US Army's Criminal Investigations Division in Hohenfels, Germany. Her office received information that a Navy sailor overheard a civilian friend discussing a terror attack in Germany. With very little to go on and not much support up the chain of command, Agent Chase investigates the information. She links the information to a US Army combat engineer but does not have enough solid evidence to get a warrant or wire taps. She decides to go undercover to see if she can get close to her target or aimpoint. She ends up starting up a relationship with the suspects roommate, Captain John Garrison. Chase and Garrison are both fighting demons from the past, both active duty military with combat experience and whether they know it or not are trying to prevent the same tragedy. Follow Agent Chase in her path to uncover the truth and stop the terror attack. This book is packed full of action, plot twists and an unexpected ending.

Irvin does a great job of showing the reader the inner workings of Agent Chase's mind. The book is well written and captivating. The book was somewhat short and ended before I expected, hence the reason for the lower rating which is more of a 4.5. Having said that, it is just a novella that predates the actual first book in the series which I cannot wait to read!

Aimpoint is a very good book. The writing skill is excellent and the characters are too. It was easy to get into the book right from the start and kept me reading to the end. The was just one of the best books I have read and it can easily be made into a series. I hope so anyway. Do yourself a favor and try out this book.

Riveting tale of revenge & deception

This book was the best military story I've read in a long time. It was, quite simply, unputdownable! The romance between John & Regan was sensitive and sensual. The terror suspect was always one step ahead until finally, in the end, he was caught, not a split second too soon. I heartily recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good story.

I guess I had trouble relating to the characters in this story and the setting of the drama. U.S. military in Germany is not something familiar to me. I was surprised at the secrecy and lack of trust among so many of the characters, but with a criminal investigative unit involved, I guess I should have expected it. But when people can't adequately communicate with their superiors, that leaves me baffled.

Anyway, Regan Chase, who is investigating a possible plot to kill a foreign general, does a great job of ferreting out the clues and following her instincts. But when things don't turn out as expected, she is smart enough to alter course and pursue where the clues lead her. She does end up solving the mystery just in time. Another thing that surprised me was how easily she was manipulated by someone who should have been ready and willing to help her, but of course she couldn't really trust him either. So, she succumbs to his rough masculinity and goes to bed with him. This seemed totally out of character, but with this being the first book in a new series, what do I know. NCIS agents are human, too! Just not like the ones in the TV series.

So, my conclusion is that it is a good story, even though I thought the ending was a bit disappointing. Nevertheless it's well worth the time to read.

In Aimpoint, Chief Warrant Officer Regan Chase is an Army CID agent stationed in Hohenfels, Germany. When a Special Forces soldier, Sergeant Evan LaCroix, is suspected of terrorist activity, Regan goes undercover as Rachel, an Army second lieutenant. As Regan uncovers LaCroix’s background as an experienced sapper and bomb expert, she tries to get close to him, instead encountering his friend and roommate Captain John Garrison. As a potential bombing turns imminent, she also grows closer to John, until her personal and professional lives collide. This book is action-packed, a roller coaster of emotions and psychological twists and turns. Candace Irvin is a gifted writer who has a comprehensive grasp of her subject matter. This is the first book of a new series that promises to be a stunner.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This is the first book in Candace Irvin’s military thriller “Deception Point.” The main character is Army Detective Regan Chase. She is part of the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID).

Amy is stationed in Hohenfels, Germancy. In her latest mission, she goes undercover to investigate someone who is believed to be a terrorist. She plans to get close to him and gain his trust. Instead Regan ends up meeting, and getting involved, with his friend and roommate, Captain John Garrison.

This thriller is a page-turner with a lot of adventure, intrigue and excitement. Ms. Irvin takes you on so many twists and turns, a reader gets whiplash from trying to make sense of what is actually going on. It’s ride you will not forget!

Aimpoint: A US Army Detective Regan Chase Thriller by Candace Irving.
(Deception Point Military Detective Thriller Series)

This is the novella that starts this series, where US Army CID Special Agent Regan Chase meets Special Forces Green Beret Captain John Garrison. During Regan's investigation into a terror plot she goes undercover and things between them get messy. This novella sets up the the story arc for the next 2 books with a lot of background information on both Regan and John's personal history. The books in this series are stand-alone books but as the author states in the blurb that "To prevent major plot and character arc spoilers, the books in this series should be read in order." A great start to a new series. I was engaged with the story telling and the characters. 4 stars.

Great first-in-series book, beginning the story of Special Agent Regan Chase, Army CID. She was assigned an undercover op to find and arrest a Special Forces Sergeant, suspected of being turned into a terrorist. The sergeant was a very advanced explosives expert who could make bombs without using normal explosives, i.e. IEDs. He was just the kind of disgruntled and talented killing machine that terrorists sought. So, Regan Chase became Rachel Pace, hoping to connect with the Sergeant and pry loose what was truly going on. But as they say...the best laid plans...

This story captured my attention from the get-go with an interesting premise, red-herring twists, and realistic interactions between characters. I can't wait to start the next book!

Aimpoint: A US Army Detective Regan Chase Novella (Deception Point Military Detective Thriller Series Book 1), my first read from author Candace Irving, was a 190-page-read that grabbed me and kept me reading until I finished it in one sitting. I'd wanted to read this book since I got it back in May of 2020 yet never got around to it, life kept getting in my way. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author and in particular Blind Edge: A US Army Detective Regan Chase Thriller (Deception Point Military Detective Thriller Series Book 1). (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Regan Chase is based in Germany working as a special agent in the US Army's Criminal Investigations Division. Intel concerning a terrorist attack arrives at her unit, but her superior refuses to act on it without conclusive proof. In an attempt to get close to the suspect, Regan finds herself instead being wooed by his friend. Will Regan manage to find evidence of the suspect's motives before a heinous crime is committed?

This story, admittedly, is a little outside of my comfort zone. There were terms and slang used that, even though I watch all the NCIS shows, went over my head. I felt that the graphic scene between the main character and her potential boyfriend was allowing me to become more intimate with Regan than I really wanted to be.

This story has Regan Chase receiving information from Mira, a NCIS agent, regarding a potential attack in Germany. Regan has reviewed the dat and requested surveillance on the individual, but her request is denied by her boss. He advises that she should go undercover and become acquainted with the suspect. She goes to a bar but is not successful instead winds up with his room mate.

As additional information comes in, Regan believes that her original idea of what was the target is now different. This is because of the visit by a Turkish officer. Even this conclusion was incorrect and it took finding paper slips in the room mates apartment.

To find out what the real target was and why this person was so intent on doing this, then you must read this book. It will whet your appetite for the next book in the series.

This story involves a decorated Special Forces officer who is a master bomb builder and a suspect in a planned bombing attack, an attractive CID investigator who goes undercover, and the investigation to determine if he is actually involved and if so are there others involved.
I enjoyed this book, it was a real page turner. I liked that the characters were believable and the suspense/tension just right. I was disappointed that Regan Chase’s undercover activities are over and her reputation damaged but she is tough and a good investigator and will be ok.
I received a free copy and am writing this honest review voluntarily.

I really enjoyed this story. It took only a second to figure out who was who and what was what and then you're right in the middle of the action. Characters are believable with all their flaws. Especially appreciated the romantic aspect and the way the author graphically included it like real life and not just a 'fade to black' scene. The plot is well thought out and flows at a good pace to keep your interest. While you can read this as a stand-alone, I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

Aimpoint - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Regan Chase is the MC in Candace Irving's new Deception Point Military Detective Series opener, Aimpoint.
Effectively orphaned at the tender age of only six, Regan enlists in the Army at 18, rising up to become an MIP/Special Agent.
Tasked with discovering if there's a traitor in their midst (and if he or she has nefarious intentions), Regan is up against closed ranks from the start, which frustrates her undercover investigation.
When her personal and professional lives collide, will the deadly plot come to fruition before she can react?

Candace Irving's intriguingly strong MC, Regan, has a subtly-revealed, complex background, which contributes to her as a believably flawed heroine, with whom the reader can empathise and engage as the story develops.

This was my first read by the author and certainly will not be the last. I truly enjoyed the book and look forward to more in the series and by the author. This was a short story introducing us to US Army CID Special Agent Regan Chase who was after a suspect who was a soldier turned terrorist. She cannot get permission from her boss to have someone trail him so she goes deep undercover to get to know his roommate, John Garrison. She wasn’t planning on getting physically and emotionally close toJohn Garrison but she did and it can ruin her career.

This is the start of a new series with a strong female as the lead character and an interesting supporting cast. Special Agent Regan Chase is tasked with working undercover to discover whether or not a Special Forces member is planning a terrorist plot. There are some twists and turns along the way, including Regan finding herself falling for a friend of the suspect. We learn some of her background but not all. And the story ends in a cliffhanger.

Military detective Regan Chase is no joke. She takes her job seriously and doesn't let anyone get in her way. She is out to find a potential terrorist. She is excellent at reading faces and emotions. Her sensitivity and experience is an excellent aide to boost her detective skills. This is an incredible start to this series. I can't wait for this next book. I highly recommend this book and this author. Remember if you want to read a book you can't put down, you have to pick it up first

This was not a bad story, nor was it a good one. At 271 pages, it was taut and well-written.

But that was only 80% of this download. The bulk of the other 42 pages were teasers for the author’s other books.

And there was something missing in this book that would make me want to read more by this author. If more of her books would come my way, I’d read them, but I won’t actively hunt them out.

The secrets and how far they reach will cause Regan to cross many lines to stop horrific acts of murder. Excellent read. Recommend recommended.

Great read

I really enjoyed reading this story and yes I'll be starting a new series as well. This one is full of action filled with suspense from the very beginning. You can usually tell from that point whether it will be one that you can't turn the pages fast enough because it is a great read.

I loved this book from the first sentence. Being in a special forces op would faze some but not Regan!

Finding out her target is Special forces didn't bode well and turns out to be very different.

Full of clever words and highly emotional - this book will keep you in suspence (in a good way) until the end.

Think the rest of her books are going to be great.

Good length

Normally a novella Is pretty short but this 1 has some real depth to it and you really get to Into the main character that you're going to be reading about in further books and I like that because so many novels are so short that you feel like you didn't read anything at all. I am looking forward to more of this series as It is very impressive

I think Candace Irving is a writer you mustn't ignore, I really think she is a great writer and I like she is staying with what she knows best and that's the military. That said I cannot wait to read the next book in this series as a matter of fact I just started so I don't have to wait.

Irving has crafted a winning character in Regan Chase !

The main story of locating a ‘terrorist’ becomes overshadowed by the discovery that the potential bomb attack is strictly personal. How the author takes the reader to a conclusion is a wild ride. A cannot put down mystery.
