2016 Reading Challenge - A book that takes place on an island
I had originally read excerpts of this for research purposes and felt it was finally time to read it in its' entirety. It is a very complete and well researched history and sociological reflection on the Maroon communities within Jamaica. It is properly places the Maroon experience with the legacy of Black resistance in the Americas. The book gives synopsis for the various cultures, movements and people that both influenced and were impacted by the Maroon communities. It has a long historical arch that can, at times be presented in a cumbersome manner, but overall I recommend it.
